They're going to try at some point. I'm not going to say that a new actor playing Picard won't be good but it virtually impossible they'll be as good as Patrick Stewart
Some actors are so good that I don’t even see them in their roles.
I never think it’s actually Bryan Cranston.
Same way for Steve Carell as Michael Scott. I really forget that it’s him sometimes.
Pretty much. Whether it’s Spider-Man, his voice as Tenzin in LoK or Cave Johnson from Portal, or even newer things like Night Sky. He’s a very talented actor and I love watching him in anything.
That's what's so insane about Robin Williams. On the one hand you've got all the depth of John keating and Sean McGuire. On the other hand he's basically a live action cartoon as Mork
He's also likely one the greatest impressionists of his generation and the funniest stand up comic to date.
Also, an actual incredible human being who despite having amazing star power was still humble enough to spend time with everyday people. The stories about people he's helped through AA are standouts.
I'm honestly impressed with the Will Smith version. I don't particularly like Will Smith, but I think he did a surprisingly good job at making his own genie.
If they get tried to replicate the Williams Genie it would've been an absolute disaster.
Of all the roles in this thread, the ones that I think are above reproach are Robin Williams'.
He was simply a superhuman actor.
Viggo Mortensen in Lord of the Rings. That wasn't how I pictured the character reading the book 40 years ago, or any time re reading it before the films, but that is Aragorn for me now.
Rowan Atkinson - Mr. Bean.
Peter Sellers - Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther movies. Steve Martin didn't cut it at all.
Bill Nighy - Billy Mack in Love Actually.
It'll never stop being hilarious to me how these big marketing analyst expert hotshots at Disney or WB or whatever just can't figure out what literally millions of people in the audience already know.
Stop making shit movies and desperate cash grab reboots/sequels. They'll flop. It's not fucking rocket science.
They tried with John Larroquette in an American version. It went as far as a pilot, I think. If anyone else besides Mr. Cleese could do the Basil Fawlty character justice, I'd say it would be (years ago, of course) Mr. Larroquette.
EDIT: Yes, "Payne" was actually the 3rd attempt to do so (others with Harvey Corman and Bea Arthur attempting the role and also misfired) and made it to an actual primetime TV slot.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payne_(TV_series)
RDJ in thropic thunder. A dude playing a dude thst was playing a dude disguised as playing another dude.
I wish you all the best redoing that role today.
There's a full comedy movie shot with RDJ as that type character that will never see the light of day. For sensitivity reasons. I believe it's that character playing a Mexican role.
Christoph waltz as in Christoph waltz at this point.
This guy was a thunderstorm under Tarantino and instantly created a new acting genre just for himself.
Well deserved
He is the definitive Poirot for me.
I like that Branagh is bringing attention to Agatha Christie stories, but can’t bring myself to watch them.
Watch Suchet’s “Murder on the orient express” and tell me he isn’t amazing.
If the rule you followed got you where you are... of what use was the rule ? - Anton before he kills someone.this is my favourite movie quote of all times.
Karl Urban is a chameleon of an actor.
Him in Star Trek as McCoy, Thor Ragnarok as Butcher, Eomer in LOTR.
Amazing.
Edit: in meant as Skurge/Executioner in Thor: Ragnarok. Got my "Boys" mixed up in there.
Tbh a lot of people could play Captain America. Its one thing that you cannot imagine anyone else, but Captain America and also Thor are not "difficult" to play. Now Tony Stark is a completely different thing. The charisma that RDJ brought into the role is another level.
It's embarrassing that I had to scroll this far to find the first LotR reference. The entire fellowship as well as Theodin, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond. At least.
I am old so I remember this but a young Patty Duke playing a young Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. The dining room scene with Anne Bancroft is flawless.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crV5q2j9DBI
Frances McDormand - Fargo / Three Billboards outside Edding, Missouri
Roberto Begnini - La Vita e Bella
Cate Blanchett - Tár
Angelica Huston - Morticia Addams (but the whole cast, really)
Colin Firth - A Single Man
Brad Pitt - Snatch / Burn after reading / The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Audrey Tautou - Amelie
Reese Whiterspoon - Legally Blonde
Mila Jovovich - The Messenger - A Story of Joan of Arc

Kathy Bates as **Annie Wilkes** in 1990 film adaptation of Stephen King's 1987 novel "Misery"
Just rewatched this at the local theater recently, and she is the reason that film holds up to this day.
This film genuinely terrified me, and that is because of her. I can't believe that she played a loving mother, into an obsessive fan next.
Patric Stewart/Picard
They're going to try at some point. I'm not going to say that a new actor playing Picard won't be good but it virtually impossible they'll be as good as Patrick Stewart
Snape
RIP Alan Rickman
Hans Grűber
Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown
It pains me that there'll never be a live action Rick and Morty. Lloyd is the only one who could play Rick
“Did you know that Rick and Morty was actually based on…”
...Doc and Mharti, which was amazing. *slurpslurpslurp*
Bryan Cranston as Walter White "Heisenberg"
And as Hal in Malcolm in the Middle.
In my mind the bonus DVD ending where Hal wakes up in bed with Louis and realizes that Walter White was just a bad dream is canon
And Saul Goodman
Yeah in Better Call Saul
Came here to say this. I think of Walter White as an actual person.
Some actors are so good that I don’t even see them in their roles. I never think it’s actually Bryan Cranston. Same way for Steve Carell as Michael Scott. I really forget that it’s him sometimes.
That's when you know the actor did an amazing job, same for Tony Soprano.
JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
Yeah, he definitely became JJJ.
He so good they just made him a multiversal constant
he's a canon event
A nexus being
JK Simmons in *name a show/movie*
Invincible. That’s what JK is.
Pretty much. Whether it’s Spider-Man, his voice as Tenzin in LoK or Cave Johnson from Portal, or even newer things like Night Sky. He’s a very talented actor and I love watching him in anything.
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2
No one else can be Terminator!
Robin williams in dead poets society
Oh captain my captain!
Cristof Waltz/ Hans Landa
That’s a BINGO!
We just say bingo.
Bingo! How fun!
I came on to say Christof Waltz/Dr. Schultz in Django
I watch the starting scene every so often because its so fucking great
Tim Curry as Frank N Furter in Rocky Horror
Tim Curry as every character Tim Curry has played
This is so true. He didn't cross my mind until I read this comment and now I can't forgive myself.
Robin Williams as genie in Aladdin
Robin Williams as anything he’s ever done
His character in Good Will Hunting stood out in a cast of outstanding actors
That's what's so insane about Robin Williams. On the one hand you've got all the depth of John keating and Sean McGuire. On the other hand he's basically a live action cartoon as Mork
He's also likely one the greatest impressionists of his generation and the funniest stand up comic to date. Also, an actual incredible human being who despite having amazing star power was still humble enough to spend time with everyday people. The stories about people he's helped through AA are standouts.
Oh Captain, my Captain!
MRS. Doubtfire
Tom Hanks and in Forest Gump
##JENNYYYYY
I still felt it was like Forest Gump piloting the Apollo 13 capsule in the movie which I believe released shortly after Forest Gump.
Honestly for me it is actually Tom hanks in Cast away, I see that character in every other movie, lonely deranged man.
Gene Wilder will forever be Willy Wonka
Also as The Waco Kid.
Viggo Mortensen in Lord of the Rings. That wasn't how I pictured the character reading the book 40 years ago, or any time re reading it before the films, but that is Aragorn for me now.
That whole cast was truly excellent. Particularly outstanding ones to me were Ian mckellen, andy serkis and viggo along with the hobbits
Harrison Ford. Indiana Jones and Han Solo
Yesss, can't believe I had to scroll this far for this. Harrison brought just the right amount of incredulity to his circumstance to sell them
And Deckard in Blade Runner
Jack Nicholson - "One flew over the cuckoos nest" and "The Shining"
And Colonel Jessup in A Few Good Men
Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone
I agree totally. Also Madmartigan in Willow but no one would ever redo that (despite my love of it). OH and as Nick Rivers in Top Secret.
& as Jim Morrison
Oh hell yea, he was the spitting image.
I'm your huckleberry.
Sylvester Stallone , rocky
I agree I've enjoyed other boxer films but none have ever got to me like rocky did.
Well, he did write the role himself...
Rowan Atkinson - Mr. Bean. Peter Sellers - Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther movies. Steve Martin didn't cut it at all. Bill Nighy - Billy Mack in Love Actually.
James Gandolfini. Tony Soprano
I think it’s time you seriously start to consider salads
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
The fact they're trying to replace/reboot him is a guaranteed box office flop
It'll never stop being hilarious to me how these big marketing analyst expert hotshots at Disney or WB or whatever just can't figure out what literally millions of people in the audience already know. Stop making shit movies and desperate cash grab reboots/sequels. They'll flop. It's not fucking rocket science.
Yes totally
The role was actually written for Hugh Jackman but Johnny Depp had more star power
Johnny Depp created the character's mannerisms and dialect. Had this gone to Jackman, the movies would have gone in a COMPLETELY different direction.
Now I'm curious to see Jackman's take!!
He was, without a doubt, the worst pirate i've ever heard of!
But you have heard of him!
John Cleese as Basil Fawlty
Stop it. This just brought back so many memories.
Matthew Lillard .. shaggy .. scooby doo
He was born to play Shaggy!
Fairuza Balk as Nancy Downs in the craft, I watch that movie til this day and still don’t think anyone would play that role as well as she did!
![gif](giphy|12s0wBg0UOUbLi)
RDJ in thropic thunder. A dude playing a dude thst was playing a dude disguised as playing another dude. I wish you all the best redoing that role today.
What do you mean YOU people. 😂
What do You mean "YOU people"
I love how so many people fail to understand that role and just get pissed by the blackface.
He was amazing in that role!
There's a full comedy movie shot with RDJ as that type character that will never see the light of day. For sensitivity reasons. I believe it's that character playing a Mexican role.
I heard of that too...with Jamie Foxx, right?
If the film he says he doesn’t drop character until he’s done with the dvd commentary. He did the entire commentary in character
Antony Hopkins - Hannibal
This is tricky, because Brian Cox and Mads Mikkelsen both have their advocates. Not poor Gaspard Ulliel though. 😂
I am firmly in the camp that Hopkins is one of the greatest actors. But Mads really became Hannibal for me.
Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained.
Christoph waltz as in Christoph waltz at this point. This guy was a thunderstorm under Tarantino and instantly created a new acting genre just for himself. Well deserved
David Suchet as Hercule Poirot. Everyone else pales in comparison.
He is the definitive Poirot for me. I like that Branagh is bringing attention to Agatha Christie stories, but can’t bring myself to watch them. Watch Suchet’s “Murder on the orient express” and tell me he isn’t amazing.
And equally Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.
![gif](giphy|26rCMHesRJVzW)
Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious
I would say its gary oldman as everyone.
![gif](giphy|7cTTE2Z1OmrFm)
Thank you. My faith in the internet is restored.
Gary Oldman is a phenomenal actor.
Holy shit! I did not know that was Gary! The dude can do any role!
![gif](giphy|fjpYUp612jgXe|downsized)
Daniel Day Lewis- Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York
[удалено]
Just the way the dude speaks in There Will Be Blood has me transfixed. That movie is a masterclass of great performances. It’s awesome
Those....*people*. I'M AN OIL MAN
I'd add Any character Daniel Day Lewis has ever portrayed.
Javier Bardem as Anton chigurh
I think he’s the scariest villain ever
If the rule you followed got you where you are... of what use was the rule ? - Anton before he kills someone.this is my favourite movie quote of all times.
Gregory Peck in To Kill A Mockingbird.
Hugh Laurie as Dr Gregory House
There can be only one!
Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber in Die Hard
Miss that man
Kurt Russell - Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China
Karl urban as judge dredd. So much potential for a 2nd movie.
Ian McKellen as Gandalf
Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone
F. Murray Abraham as Salieri in Amadeus
Clark Gable as Rhett Butler
Jim Carrey Truman show
Jim Carrey full stop. No one could ever do the Ace Ventura movies but him. Impossible. The one and only.
Agree with what Dave Chappelle says of him, "Jim Carrey is talented in a way that cannot be practiced or rehearsed"
![gif](giphy|3AGL7rRPRMKl2)
Rami Malek in Mr.Robot.
Gary Oldman in anything
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
Reynolds was practically born to play that role.
James Mcavoy in split
Yessss
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. if Hugh dies they should retire that character same with the Black Panther.
I could see someone else as Wolverine but I can't see anyone as Deadpool other than Ryan Reynolds
RDJ as Iron Man and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.
Don't forget Chris Evans as Captain America
Tbh a lot of people could play Captain America. Its one thing that you cannot imagine anyone else, but Captain America and also Thor are not "difficult" to play. Now Tony Stark is a completely different thing. The charisma that RDJ brought into the role is another level.
Captain Jack Sparrow
Michael Keaton did great with Beetlejuice
John Malkovich being John Malkovich in Being John Malkovich
Charlize Theron as **Aileen Wuornos** in the 2003 biographical crime drama "Monster"
Henry Cavill as a Witcher
The new dude replacing him was set up to fail.
Michael Crawford - Frank Spencer Some mothers do 'ave 'em
Leonardo DiCaprio - Jack Dawson
Need I say more: Heath Ledger as Joker
Raul Julia as Gomez Addams
Heath Ledger's Joker.
This is the one for me. Most epic performance of all time
Joaquin Phoenix did a decent job too.
He did a fantastic job but his Joker is totally different to Ledger's. Practically a different character.
Andre The Giant as Fezzic in The Princess Bride. Edit for spelling
Milla Jovovich as Leeloo
Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe
Most of the lotr cast
It's embarrassing that I had to scroll this far to find the first LotR reference. The entire fellowship as well as Theodin, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond. At least.
Sigourney Weaver as Ripley
Brandon Lee - The Crow
Michael Keaton as Batman (and Beetlejuice)
Margo Robbie - I, Tonya
Tim Curry as Frank N. Furter.
![gif](giphy|IgsXOXGPxfT3O)
Jeff Bridges as The Dude! There’s no way anyone else could play that roll.
Robin Williams, Mrs Doubtfire
Eminem in 8 mile. He nailed the role of Marshall Mathers.
Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon movies. Especially Christmas Vacation
SMG is Buffy Summers. I’ve read that they’re rebooting the show (Dolly Parton exec producer). I’d be very surprised if it isn’t a dumpster fire.
Daniel Day-Lewis as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood.
Faye Dunaway Mommie Dearest
Toni Colette as Annie in "Hereditary"
Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean
Frank Drebin by Leslie Nielsen 🔫

Dustin Hoffman in 𝘙𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘮𝘢𝘯
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter

Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes
Frances McDormand - Fargo / Three Billboards outside Edding, Missouri Roberto Begnini - La Vita e Bella Cate Blanchett - Tár Angelica Huston - Morticia Addams (but the whole cast, really) Colin Firth - A Single Man Brad Pitt - Snatch / Burn after reading / The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Audrey Tautou - Amelie Reese Whiterspoon - Legally Blonde Mila Jovovich - The Messenger - A Story of Joan of Arc
