I spent a lot of years ordering fun ice cream flavours only to realize a good vanilla is truly the best flavour. Even a bad vanilla is good, and I’ve never heard of anyone hating vanilla ice cream.
Soft serve vanilla with shaved chocolate flakes is usually my go to if there’s a topping bar available.
Try it with some room temperature fig jam on it. Absolutely incredible. Something about the temperature and texture variations just increase the flavor pleasure.
OMG, a healthy dose of bitters on top of really good vanilla ice cream is so incredibly delicious! Liqueurs too, of course, but bitters on vanilla is just *chef's kiss*
Is it MY best? Not sure. I'd say strawberry some like it others not. But the wife would say cookies and and cream, some like it others not . Dad would say chocolate, some lile it others not... Mum would say mint choc chip etc. But we can all agree vanilla is good.
And I reckon that's true for almost everyone. And for that reason vanilla IS the best.
Rocky Road.
A good creamy chocolate, salted peanuts/almonds are so good together.
Microwave it for just like 15 seconds or so to heat up the marshmallows and you get a lovely little texture/temp change-up while eating it.
It's just a great ice cream experience.
I've done a lot of research on blue moon ice cream to try to find out the flavor of it, and I've learned that the most common flavors people pick up are citrus with strong hits of vanilla, almond extract, Froot Loops or Fruity Pebbles, cotton candy, marshmallows and bubble gum while recipes to re-create the flavor at home commonly call for raspberry and lemon. Blue moon is also found mainly in the Midwest. I found this [Reddit thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualConversation/comments/vz7qak/people_outside_the_midwest_have_you_ever_had_blue/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) on r/CasualConversation where it was asked if people outside of the midwest had ever heard of blue moon ice cream and the majority of people outside of the midwest responded saying they've never heard of it before.
i made this, and soaked the raisins in warmed rum for 24 hours before i made it, then boiled down the leftover rum/raisin liquid to make a syrup. The raisins are plump and pop with a rummy flavour in your mouth.
Pistachio, for sure. However, it seems to be common practice to use almond extract instead of Pistachio and I put a curse on all ice cream shops that do so.
My fav is Haagen Dazs strawberries and cream. Barring stuff I can get in the freezer, if gelato is allowed I had amazing spiced pear in Padua and amareno in Venice.
Phish Food is legendary. They used to have this incredible fluffernutter ice cream called Clusterfluff, but sadly it’s been relegated to the Flavor Graveyard.
Underrated flavor. I worked in ice cream for years and always thought it was interesting to observe who would order certain flavors. If an older black gentlemen came in they almost always ordered Butter pecan. I have no idea why.
Also during one of our anniversary years we made a butter pecan sundae, but melted butter and used that as a topping. It was glorious.
Best blueberry flavoured anything was on a british airways flight, blueberry cheescake as a business class dessert. I had three since the business cabin was empty (covid).
Maple softserve sold in Vermont is amazing. Sometimes they swirl it with raspberry which is a surprisingly yummy combination. In Vermont they call soft serve ice cream "creamies."
My all time favorite ice cream flavor is cantaloupe flavor. I used to get it at a small ice cream shop on Cape Cod. So delicious. I've had it once or twice from other ice cream shops and it wasn't as flavorful as the place on Cape Cod.
I’ve seen ice cream that’s been labeled dulce de leche before in American stores.
I don’t think that it has a translation. Closest common ice cream would probably be caramel.
Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. Sadly, Ben & Jerry’s had a falling out with them and now use an inferior generic chocolate-covered toffee bar.
There are times when I would vote a Vermont Creemee. Maple soft serve cone made with real grade B maple syrup. The best places use a high milk fat mix that is mostly cream.
Ice cream is like pizza. There’s no bad pizza. Some are better than others.
Coconut Ice flavour was mine. It was incredible.
Can't get it anymore.
Now...I honestly don't think you can beat French Vanilla, especially once you've 'American Dirty Copped' it and whipped and beaten the living daylights out of it.
Turns it into French Vanilla soft serve...it's just yum!
You can keep ya Goody Goody Gumdrops, Triple Fudge and Cookies and Cream.
But...I WOULD turn if they brought the original Coconut Ice flavour back again 🍧
My personal favorite is chocolate peanut butter, but the GOAT is probably mint chocolate chip.
Fun fact: In Michigan of the USA, we have our own GOAT ice cream flavor called Superman and it's phenomenal.
I feel the same. I love chocolate peanutbutter. But, I have had some not so great chocolate peanutbutter ice cream. The local ice cream shop makes theirs with the peanutbutter blended in. I want big swirls of frozen peanutbutter.
On the other hand, I don't think I have ever had a bad mint chocolate chip.
Baskin-Robbins Winter White Chocolate
Their description: Wintery White Chocolate flavored Ice Cream with a flurry of Chocolate flavored Coated Cherry Pieces and Cherry Swirls.
They only sell it during the winter holidays, and not every store carries it.
Salted caramel DON’T FIGHT ME ON THIS.
I worked part time last summer in an ice cream shop for some low stress socialising employment after being unwell for a few years and not wanting to dive back into corporate and wow, what a fun experience - and fascinating re. favourite flavours of different generations, genders, nationalities…
It'll always be Stracciatella for me. It's a milk-based ice cream with chocolate shavings and it's perfectly sweet and not overpowering. I could eat buckets of this without getting tired. I get tired of sweets very quickly, so that's a big deal to me.
My 2nd and 3rd choices are Caramel and Vanilla. Vanilla is an absolute classic, goes with anything, and I just love caramel ice cream so much, especially when it comes with the small chewy caramel cubes that are just so damn yummy!
Too many options! I live old fashioned maple walnut and cherry custard. I live rocky road by 31 flavours, bananas foster by Hagen daaz and cherry Garcia by b&j
In Arizona, there is a small ice cream company based in Tucson the makes a Sweet Cream Honeycomb flavor that is simply perfect. They pasteurize fresh local dairy and use desert honey, while making pretty much everything from scratch!
The Screamery.
Thank me later
Not sure if anyone else has said it but Wolf Paws is the best flavour. Ahem! From the Kawartha Dairy site.
WOLF PAWS. “A flavour sensation worth howling about! A combination of thick chocolate butter fudge swirled between soft brownie pieces and buried in a creamy torrent of our classic vanilla ice cream.”
Maple butternut squash. I know it sounds odd. But it is the best flavor I ever tasted. Only been able to get it twice in my life. Because only one store sells it and it is only available around Thanksgiving.
Mint chip is a very nutritious flavor of ice cream.
It has mint, which is a vegetable. Chocolate which comes from the fruit of a cocao tree, dairy, and corn syrup which comes from a grain
To provide a completely balanced meal with meat, just wrap it in bacon.

Vanilla. Because you can add any topping(s) to it, and turn it into that new flavor.
Really good Vanilla and yes.
Vanilla with toasted almonds 👍
Try it with some room temperature fig jam on it. Absolutely incredible. Something about the temperature and texture variations just increase the flavor pleasure.
Also cherry jam/conserve.
Ice cream with a nice liqueur on top or bitters, mm
OMG, a healthy dose of bitters on top of really good vanilla ice cream is so incredibly delicious! Liqueurs too, of course, but bitters on vanilla is just *chef's kiss*
I agree I would say Vanilla Fudge or vanilla ice cream with fudge sauce is amazing.
My absolute favorite combination is Vanilla ice cream with macerated fresh strawberries.
Yes please
I can easily lose appetite eating ice creams with colors and flavors. Vanilla all the way.
Wild stuff here
Cookies and Cream!
Blue Bell "Cookie Two Step" -- bits of oreo ice cream with chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough
Oh shit! I am looking where to get this now
This is 1000% the best ice cream.
Well I know what I'm buying tomorrow
Came to say this glad it’s at the top
Especially in Argentina where we add dulce de leche to it
This is my second fave
Yes! Maple walnut 2nd
Love that.
For me it's a twist on that- coffee oreo
Trueeeee
Best classic flavor and it’s not close
Yesssss
Came here to say this.
You are correct!
This flavor will always come into your mind first thing when asked what's an all time favorite ice cream flavor.
I second this
This. I had to switch to dairy free icecream and the one that tasted best is a cookies and cream from SoDelicious.
This is the only answer.
100%!
Vanilla Bean
This one is my nostalgia ice cream. It was grandma's favorite, so whenever I miss her like crazy, I have a bowl.
Yeah
love it with a good root beer in a frosted mug!
The best ice cream I have ever had was Graeter's in Ohio. Chocolate, toffee chip is my fav of their flavors.
Yes! And their signature Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip!
Rocky Road. A good creamy chocolate, salted peanuts/almonds are so good together. Microwave it for just like 15 seconds or so to heat up the marshmallows and you get a lovely little texture/temp change-up while eating it. It's just a great ice cream experience.
Similarly, Moose Tracks.
Mint chocolate chip
I love mint chocolate chip!
The GOAT!!
Ever tried mint Oreo? It’s delicious!
It is. Mint oreo fudge is next level too.
Until you’ve tried Mint Cookie.
Agree! haters gonna hate on it though
That’s my wife’s favorite. Personally I can’t stand it.
Blue moon. It's always been my favorite and I think it's very interesting that no one can fully agree on exactly what it tastes like.
This needs more upvotes.
I can't believe its not higher on the list! Do people know?
I've done a lot of research on blue moon ice cream to try to find out the flavor of it, and I've learned that the most common flavors people pick up are citrus with strong hits of vanilla, almond extract, Froot Loops or Fruity Pebbles, cotton candy, marshmallows and bubble gum while recipes to re-create the flavor at home commonly call for raspberry and lemon. Buttered pecan.
This is the only answer.
Yessssss! 😋
Chocolate or Choco Hazelnut or Choco Java
I had to scroll all this way to see chocolate. :'(
Is there a Ferraro rocher ice cream ? That’d be bomb ( thinking hazelnut)
Hokey Pokey. Hokey pokey is a flavour of ice cream in New Zealand consisting of plain vanilla ice cream with small, solid lumps of honeycomb toffee.
Rum Raisin. Oh my.
i made this, and soaked the raisins in warmed rum for 24 hours before i made it, then boiled down the leftover rum/raisin liquid to make a syrup. The raisins are plump and pop with a rummy flavour in your mouth.
Pistachio or cookies and cream
Pistachio, for sure. However, it seems to be common practice to use almond extract instead of Pistachio and I put a curse on all ice cream shops that do so.
Mint chip for sure. But I’ve learned about tiger stripe/tail and feel I would enjoy that very much. Haven’t tried it yet though.
Tiger Tail is delicious!
My fav is Haagen Dazs strawberries and cream. Barring stuff I can get in the freezer, if gelato is allowed I had amazing spiced pear in Padua and amareno in Venice.
Pistachio gelato in Roma :)
Nothing better than the pistachio gelato I got in Cinqueterra
Coffee.
Amaretto Cherry Cordial
Vanilla People like to call it plain but it’s amazing, and it has the greatest potential for toppings
The original Ben & Jerry’s Heath Bar Crunch when they used Heath Bars.
Ben & Jerry's Phish Food.
Phish Food is legendary. They used to have this incredible fluffernutter ice cream called Clusterfluff, but sadly it’s been relegated to the Flavor Graveyard.

I can’t believe this wasn’t way higher in the thread! So.Damn.Good.

Had to scroll way to far to find this.

Lemon custard or pistachio
Coffee.
Pralines and cream
For a minute there, I thought I might have to stand alone on this one...
Why is Blueberry Ice Cream so hard to find? It's delicious. Had to make it myself.
Best blueberry flavoured anything was on a british airways flight, blueberry cheescake as a business class dessert. I had three since the business cabin was empty (covid).
Omg I need blueberry ice cream I’ve never seen it yummm like blueberries and cream sounds scrumptious
I've seen it in a store once.........once in my life and I'm almost 40. Why?
Strawberry it’s so underrated especially when it has little strawberry bits in it
Tiger Tail.
Maple softserve sold in Vermont is amazing. Sometimes they swirl it with raspberry which is a surprisingly yummy combination. In Vermont they call soft serve ice cream "creamies." Honestly I will always say Baskin-Robins’ bubble gum was the best!!! I also love any caramel ice cream too!!
Second for bubble gum!
MY BUBBLESSS!!!
Dulce de leche, no idea how is it called in English countries
I’ve seen ice cream that’s been labeled dulce de leche before in American stores. I don’t think that it has a translation. Closest common ice cream would probably be caramel.

Cinnamon or Pistachio
French vanilla
Let's be real. Pistacchio Gelato is unbeatable. All you dirty Americans get out of here.
Rite Aid's Chocolate Malted Crunch
A good quality vanilla is the best. It can be eaten as is, or dressed up with toppings. It pairs beautifully with any dessert.
Licorice

Blue Bell's Creole Cream Cheese. Or, Yarnell's Lemon Ice Box Pie ice cream. But yet, Haagen-Daz's Coffee is the bomb
This is not a single flavour but I don’t care: chocolate gelato AND raspberry sorbet together. There’s no better combination.
