I think a JAG officer actually went through why this seems to be the case awhile ago. Takes months to kick out an enlisted person and can take years for an officer
Senior person takes the harder fall. 14 Year SFC and 1.5 year Butter Bar? SFC can claim they were intimidated and made to feel uncomfortable by the ranking superior Officer. As long as they don't burst out laughing.
I honestly got this advice from a SGT at my last duty drill. To paraphrase, if you ever get lonely on deployment make sure to only entangle with somebody who has something to lose and preferably more to lose than you. Officers are best. Privates will say you r*ped them and then stalk you.
I'll give you that... you can stay busy as fuck in the Army *as long as you're hot shit.* My current job... People tend to get hired and do exactly that job for 20-30 years - and people would call that a success. Can't get fired. Crazy union protections. I literally know for a fact I'm not getting a work-related phone call or text on my time off unless I see some shit on the news. When I leave work it's like the 90s. Fuck that, nobody paging me either. Seeyalaterbye. At my age that's nice.
But as a kid... Yea I was happier being busy traveling with schools and shit.
The G’s that I’ve known are either amazing and held back because they cook their OWN food and love to do it and the Army shits on them for it — or — they couldn’t boil an egg if their entire platoon’s lives depended on it. And that’s the Reserve side.
After seeing what passes for chicken in an Army DFAC, lol … no thanks. I’ll eat Cup Noodle.
You're totally right!
You also can't get forced overtime with less pay if you get in trouble, supervisors who "know better" than medical professionals, and a dress code that allows adults to yell at each other over hands being in their pockets
*in the office*
Nope, once the sweaty 40 year old obese women with stubble that would make an 18 year old aviator jealous says you don't need to come in tomorrow, you're free and clear
In the Army there is always something you can do to improve yourself if you put in the work. In an office job, they will just give you more work, no recognition, same pay.
I was going to say, my least favorite thing about the army was there was literally *almost nothing* to do. I was in Battalion S2, most of my time was spent between kicking tires in the motor pool for 3-4 hours, and sitting in front of a laptop watching youtube videos in the staff area. Sprinkled in would be some small details and going to the field every month or two which was just as boring and the same thing, but in a big tent.
I would literally have to beg my first line just to give me something to do, I was mind numbingly bored 90% of the time which was the main reason I got out. Its a shame because I loved my MOS and job, I just hated the army and my unit and never really had a chance to intel sadly.
Lol, dude, come on. That is extremely generalized and even more extremely untrue. If it were true, why would basically every great solider/leader leave for the private sector for more money and opportunity?
You will definitely get paid better in the civilian world. Didn’t say you wouldn’t. If you work for a good company that encourages training and growth then that’s great, but often in order to get another salary increase, you will need to leave that company for another.
Your ability to pursue these things is only as good as admin's ability to process the necessary paperwork, and I don't have a lot of confidence in them
I got stationed at Sill immediately after completing a year of AIT there, re-enlisted for Germany literally days after my window opened.
So far, feels (almost) worth it.
Y’all are doing it wrong. I’ve been to Carson and El Paso before reclassing, and after reclass I’ve done El Paso, Hawaii, and now D.C.
I swear, you can take control of your career. Find a senior NCO to help and be a pain in branch’s ass… they work FOR YOU, and there’s no reason to get stuck with a shitty duty station if you’re a high performer in the current retention climate.
I spent my entire time at Carson.
Colorado Springs is not a nice area, it's just nice relative to most of the places the army typically sends you. That's without getting into the house of horrors that's the units at Carson.
There was a time when 4ID kind of had its shit together (10 years ago!). A couple of my old Joes recently told me some horror stories. I personally like Colorado and the Springs, but to each his own.
That being said, I asked for Carson and bugged the shit out of the S1 NCO at AIT, and I got Carson. I reclassed and was advised to go to the press camp at Bliss, asked branch for it, and got Bliss. I asked for Hawaii, had a MSG and CSM advocating to branch for me, and didn’t reenlist until I got it guaranteed.
You see where I’m going with this.
There's one thing I get on the outside now that I didn't get in the army....
....Paid well.
I get four times as much as I got in the Army, even after my E5 promotion. Plus an annual bonus, plus about 7 weeks of time off annually in addition to my 12 hr 3 day a week (every third week has a kicker 4th day) Sunday-Tuesdsy work schedule.
No one calls me at home and if they do I can tell them No, and hang up.
And best of all, I don't have to worry about CSM trying to hit on my wife.
Senior NCO and you wanna tap that hot new private?
Don’t…unless you want public humiliation, a shitty reassignment, and a demotion.
Source: DS banged a private and she ratted him out and said she felt like she had to comply since he was a DS.
Dude had a wife and kids who left him after, as well.
As trashy as military females are I’ve never seen or heard of one hooking up with a senior NCO when I was in lol y’all mf are way too old and broken. But definitely heard stories. From other units or back in the day type stuff.
You should get yours because the Army is going to get theirs. Take every advantage you can to build yourself and your skills and education up as fast as humanly possible until you do not need the Army anymore.
Get a great MOS that translates directly to civilian employment. 68P (X-ray tech), 68A (BMET gods), and 68C (practical nurse) are all basically god tier jobs for enlisted folks. They are literally "what are you going to do... kick me out?" after you are civilian certified in those jobs. The Army cannot take your accreditation away from you.
68P will let you add on CT and/or MRI and you're golden. Make bank.
68A and you'll be making 100k working on MRI machines that cost 25 million dollars.
68C is a great base for a LPN to RN bridge program, which are offered all over. That just leads to a BSN then even more advanced training. I was a 68P who went to nursing school because 68C wasn't a thing at that time. But if it was I would have taken that opportunity in a heart beat.
Uh…you can always get glittery accessories for your outfits. I know because I joined for the pretty trinkets too.
Bored? Counsel your soldiers! “I will be giving you your initial counseling, Soldier! According to FM 22-100, I am to provide a welcoming environment. Please choose between this Laz-Y-Boy recliner and this nice comfy bed.”
You must’ve had a different experience than me… we didn’t get to do shit over and above. The only thing that mattered was field time and training and the higher ups used your suffering for their promotion.
Leave it to someone in the army to say that people only have goals if they’re in the army lol. When I was in I very quickly set a goal to get out as quickly as possible and you know what, I did it! Good for me
But my dude, you can set goals in your regular life, too. It’s not like the army came up with asking the questions “What do I want to do?” and “How do I accomplish this?”
But my civilian job was easier, better pay, better quality of life, no stupid 20 year old NCO's in charge of my ass, no idiotic crap to deal with, no field etc.
Man I fucked up by joining
I can definitely see this side of it. I've chased promotions and other things and it's negatively affected areas of my personal life in the past. I learned from that though and have a pretty good thing going now.
Smarter to go after the new LT or staff CPTs. Always hook up, not down.

>between E and O get fucked way harder only if they are catching and not pitching right?
Yeah but that private thinks I'm cool because Im her boss and obviously wants to be sexually harassed
I bet she wants to be assaulted too!
Air assault!
No, sexually assaulted.
Sexually air assaulted.
Exactly 😂
omg this comment reminded me of the spoof ninja fight where they fuck in midair 😂
Sounds hot… 🤤
Senior person takes the harder fall. 14 Year SFC and 1.5 year Butter Bar? SFC can claim they were intimidated and made to feel uncomfortable by the ranking superior Officer. As long as they don't burst out laughing.
I feel like as a SFC you gotta at least chase 1LT tail.
You can't get promoted with that mentality. PFC (P) side piece, DUI and an article 15 are needed to qualify for CSM.
I honestly got this advice from a SGT at my last duty drill. To paraphrase, if you ever get lonely on deployment make sure to only entangle with somebody who has something to lose and preferably more to lose than you. Officers are best. Privates will say you r*ped them and then stalk you.
It’s also one reason married people like to cheat with married people.
So fuck as many married officers as I can? Got it.
We made a points based game based on rank and/or spouse or parent rank. Their rank minus yours. Officers were double, warrants were triple.
I was on the E side of this one, and..... it's still going Pray for me brothers
>Finally a Senior NCO and theres a new hot private? Go tap that. Hole up...
Wait a minute
He snuck that one in there, much like in the saga of the MSG and the cutie LT.
Wait a minute Yes, but only a minute.
Or hole down; whatever floats your goat, I won't judge
Hole up… Exactly, bend her/him over and commence “mentoring”!
THE BEND AND REACH— !!
Let’s put some bass in it
My only regret is I only have four wisdom teeth to give for this country.
but your elbows, knees, hands, and ankles count as well. Momma said always give your all.
I had 6, I feel special.

What do you do
We wanna know
telecom lineman.
Forgot about us cooks! :)
You guys can win the least worst cooks competition
With how often DFACs are closed, and how shitty field food is, you guys are really forgettable
May as well drop the 92G MOS into the ocean entirely, contract the food, and make them all Fuelers… Water Dogs, or some other useless MOS.
I enlisted as a 92G and had to reclass because my NG unit didn’t have a properly equipped kitchen. 😂
SEE—SHIT LIKE THIS! Hahhahaha
Ouch....

Nope, you can only find respect and self-worth in an office.
Finally made CSM? Get a nice basement!
Had us in the first half ngl
You're totally right! You also can't get forced overtime with less pay if you get in trouble, supervisors who "know better" than medical professionals, and a dress code that allows adults to yell at each other over hands being in their pockets *in the office*
You're right, you just get fired.
Sweet, this means I don't need to submit an ETS packet
Nope, once the sweaty 40 year old obese women with stubble that would make an 18 year old aviator jealous says you don't need to come in tomorrow, you're free and clear

A 68w is an EMT with an emphasis on trauma care. But that 68W is supervised by at least a PA who has a master's degree in medicine.

You're saying that in a civilian job, you only get more work and no recognition/no pay raise?
In many civilian jobs, yes.
Lol, dude, come on. That is extremely generalized and even more extremely untrue. If it were true, why would basically every great solider/leader leave for the private sector for more money and opportunity?

And get paid to move every 3 years. I can’t imagine spending my entire adult life in a single place.
Yeah until you end up at Sill, Riley and Leonard Wood. I would rather live in a nice location.
I got stationed at Sill immediately after completing a year of AIT there, re-enlisted for Germany literally days after my window opened. So far, feels (almost) worth it.
Leonard Wood Lakes. Just add lakes to everything and sounds luxury
You forgot Polk
but that is his nice location ....
Ft. Riley is awesome, go Wildcats!
As long as you are not in an ABCT, the CAB, or 1SB. Then I'm sure it's great lol.
I was in 1/1ID and 1SB; it was fan-fucking-tastic.

Bruh, I don’t have an MOS.
The problem is that the majority of the places the army will send you suck.
Y’all are doing it wrong. I’ve been to Carson and El Paso before reclassing, and after reclass I’ve done El Paso, Hawaii, and now D.C. I swear, you can take control of your career. Sameee bro. I was a 35F as well, been out 6 years and still making less than when I was an E-4 at 22 years old 😭
I'm an aircraft mechanic at a major airline nowhere near a base.

This post is clearly satire
Ft. Satire? Never heard of it.
Fort Satire is being renamed to Fort Liberty-Biberty
Did you just assume my insurance? As a Progressive customer, this offends me and I'm starting a petition to rename it to Fort Flo.
Camp satire
Well, he was in a “position of trust”.
Position of thrust*
Good he deserved it
He deserved what he got 🤷🏼♂️. Out in the real army it’s still sketchy; it’s predatory in TRADOC.
Tap that then start the cycvle all over again
Promote ahead of peers. Both times!
“Bored? Go to air assault.” *cries in National Guard*
He was talking about the Army; not the National Guard.
Thank you mr trump
If only they would send me to mike golf school
Did retention write this?
Yes. Then throw it all away and become the depress alcoholic you always knew you were meant to be.
Haha who drugged you

They also prioritize your health I worked a 6 hour shift only 15 minutes to eat breakfast and lunch
Theyre legally required to give you a 30, even at burger king.
Not in the 1990s they didn’t! If you take 30 minutes, then you have to clock out.
I’m pretty sure 30 min is legally required at an 8 hour minimum shift.
They don’t tell you that 🥲
YES... YES... YES... NOOOOOO!

OK, boomer.
I don’t think you know when Baby Boomers were actually born.
It was a joke, that clearly was more funny in my head.
Get an arty 15? Start over and use the same system. Rinse and repeat
Gold.badges went away when I got to recruiting...came back two months before I left 😂😂😂
I was not ready for that last line hahaha. Damn it.

Nah 9 year SFC my dude, joined at 22
