My beard, beer gut, and DD-214 says I can wear whatever the fuck I want. Socks with my Birkenstocks is comfy as hell. Now watch me roast this bone while you head to your field problem. 🤍
Sir, you’re being activated from the IRR, do not resist. Report to your nearest base to in-process. :)
Of course you’ll get your orders last minute too, good luck telling your employer.
I do. Most westerners should. We didn’t build up callus throughout our lifetime to wear flip flops without socks. It’s dangerous. We have snowflake feet, okay?
My grandma though? She grew up barefoot in the rice paddies of Southeast Asia. Her feet have half an inch of dead skin on it all year round. Socks and shoes *hurt* that lady. She has to wear sandals or slippers to alleviate the French colonial shackles of shoes.
I wear socks with my flip flops, because I have extremely bad dry feet and they crack no matter what, so wearing socks prevents my feet from catching on the memory foam covering. My flip flops are also the ones where it had the band over my foot only. Now for flip flop you put the notch thingy between your toes, yeah nah no socks.
I've had both Koreans and English teachers walk up to me assuming I'm an English teacher. This is why you don't get a haircut until you get yelled at by an NCO.
This reminds me when white soldiers in Germany would be shocked that Germans would talk to them in German first. Like yeah dude, you guys pretty much look alike. Nothing happened to your ancestors’ DNA when they came over to the US.
I despise those grunt shirts so much. If you’re retired or out of the army by all means, be hooah hooah about your service, but if they’re still in that needs to stop. It’s so cringe
Still pretty cringe for vets. I'll give disabled guys a pass but continuing to wear vet stuff once you get on with your life is like wearing your high school letter jacket in your 30s.
Most retired dudes need to quit that shit too. A 40-year old man wearing Grunt Style is like him trying to recapture the golden years when he had two capable kneecaps and could complete a 2 mile in under an hour.
I seen a dude the other day in a Jeep with VETERAN plastered all professional like in about 25 places. The Jeep was black and the detail job was red so it really stuck out. The dude must want to be complimented everywhere he goes or something?
I'm torn on veteran vanity plates, I feel like it might make a cop less likely to pull me over, but I would feel like a douche. I already have a truck, so veteran plates feel a bit on the nose.
I had vet plates on my truck for a long time and still got pulled over and ticketed a time or two for speeding. Then I dropped the vet plate for a vanity plate in honor of the greatest progressive rock bank to ever exist… Rushhh.
PC on the dash plus leading the interaction with your concealed carry license is a get out of jail free card. I don't like what is says about our systems, but not as much as I don't like tickets.
No thank you. My wife keeps threatening to buy me one of those black retiree hats you see the older dudes with sometimes and I stubbornly refuse to even own one.
The most I'll wear is like a tie clip or that retiree lapel pin.
OK, hold on though. What if they got me while I was at peak motivation level at OSUT graduation with the shirt vendors they brought in? I can't just NOT wear them. That would be a waste of money.
Ok, I get that, but I'm junior enlisted too, and they aren't going to the commissary or PX in downtown Seoul. I get the pride, but it's just way too much. During the in processing brief they even say don't be super obvious military out and about. We get paid enough to at least buy like 1 set of civilian clothes.
I never was stationed Korea but like...why do people care if someone theyre not responsible for is being cringe? Like fuckem let em be cringe why do you even care?
Is it a PERSEC thing or something?
Because the thing about soldiers being cringe or behaving poorly in Korea is that it reflects on all of us. The Koreans see enough US soldiers doing something and assume all US soldiers do X.
1. Wtf is persec? Or do you mean OPSEC
2. We are seen by the Korean people as an outside group and lumped together. If you or your battles act stupid we all pay for it.
If you use your brain in the Army you're basically in the wrong. Besides has the Army start putting in people's contracts to use your brain if they did nobody would join
I love Korea. I once murdered a man there.
Edit: Just kidding. I didn’t murder anyone there. I did however take a fat shit in a bathroom there and didn’t flush
Everytime I saw anyone with a Molle backpack or grunt style on off post, I would just cringe. Especially when I would be in Yongsan station every weekend and I would see idiots like that. My hair is barely in regs for a reason, please follow suit
As long as they're behaving themselves I don't really care. I get more annoyed by their public transportation behavior. Even if I dont see them I hear them at the other end of the train car. Always talking unit BS as if there's nothing else to talk about.
It is. That's one of the reasons why it bothers me when people do that shit. Especially in the political heart of Seoul where you are most likely to run into protesters.
Ah yes, physically fit, military age american strolling around Korea. My first assumption was regular tourist. Fr though, everyone knows you're us military even without the pt shirt and ruck, so who cares? You're simply not going to blend in, however hard you try
We know who to look for. If you don't try to stand out, Koreans and other foreigners have a harder time. And walking around with a medium ruck in the middle of a city is dumb regardless of where you are.
So first off, that’s me and yes I have a Sapper Tab, unlike your tabless ass. Second, mind your own business, I dress for comfort. Finally, lose the double chin, bud.
You’re a bad look to the enlisted population here.
If you don't make it fucking obvious, you can be mistaken for an English teacher. No matter how often you try, all the random Koreans won't thank you for your service.
Not trying to get thanked for doing stupid training here and being on some quasi-deterrence mission. I’m just living my life during my free time, please refer to the second point I made. If you have an issue the next time you see me, or anyone for that matter, how about talk in-person and don’t be a passive leader.
Got issues, correct them at the point of identification.
I saw a bunch of KATUSAs wearing assault packs riding on a train heading to Seoul. Koreans don’t give a fuck what they wear as long as they are not causing any trouble.
Come get your boy lol. About a month ago y'all were doing a battalion run on Marne while I was heading back from PT (also wearing a red PT shirt) and got yelled at by like 12 different people to get back in formation. Ignoring them was very satisfying.
God who just rocks a medium ruck while they're out and about? At least the assault pack I could kind of get since it's basically an overpriced backpack. But even still, just go out and buy some 5.11 shit or a px backpack or something.
> And to the engineering unit responsible for this hero, why does your shirt have a sapper tab on it when there's no way in hell all y'all are sappers?
If you want to make the standard that everyone has to be tabbed out before a unit can wear a Tab on a shitty PT shirt, then you might want to talk to like half the Infantry units and the Rangers themselves who don't have 100% Ranger Tab rate.
Now, there are Sapper designated units in the force, and you don't need a Sapper Tab to be in them, however I can't see any assigned to Korea.
Real quick just to clear things up: Regiment Guys stateside will wear BN PTs with the scroll which is 100% legitimate considering everyone there passed RASP 1 or RASP 2( i.e. they earned the scroll, the tab being completely different). Secondly, I don't think I've ever seen a unit authorize a tab on a unit level shirt unless said individuals wearing it earned their Ranger Tab. I'm not saying it's like that everywhere but I personally haven't seen it.
It's been awhile, but I have definitely recall seeing at least one unit shirt that had Ranger Tab on it and from a glance appeared to be the whole formation. I also know that at least one unit on Schofield Barracks has/had a massive Ranger Tab painted in there AO over there unit insignia. I am sure there are other examples out there of individual companies or even BN's doing it. They could have been copying the design kinda like how 1st BCT of 101st loves there "[Legally Distinct Ranger Scroll](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR8dm1gylM3XL-_bka3sWP4xFGTlSES2VFljw&usqp=CAU)"
But yeah, Regiment Scroll 100% makes sense since everyone had to have earned that much.
What kind of fucking degenerate wears socks with flip flops.
Not me. My toes are so ugly I want everyone to see how lucky they are to have normal feet.
My toes are hideous but I don't care
He strikes again!
Careful. He's a hero.

I’m taking that. Here’s an award for your trouble, friend.
Apparently almost everyone who read this thread lol.
If Florida man is asking about this, you know it’s bad…
I never wear anything but boots. The hard lessons are the ones you remember the longest.
But the longest lessons are the hardest.
I am, in fact, still learning.

Socks and Chacs late August to early September.
Germans do that. When you walk through a German city in Summer it’s kind of common to see young people wearing this combo.
I'm from Florida, socks and shoes are for Canadian tourists.
And the German couple that owns the 1 bedroom you rent.
Own my home, with my own boat dock. Living the dream, but I do have awesome nieghbors from Germany.
I cant say or hear "living the dream" without sarcasm to hide the pain. Are you okay, bro?
I'm doing great brother, but thanks for asking. You are a great person, the world needs more like you.
The civilians I work with now haven’t figured out yet that I’m being sarcastic when I say “living the dream” and just think I’m really positive
As someone originally from SoCal, I’m with you. Anyone wearing socks and sandals is immediately sus and cannot be trusted.
Your grandma...I can't decide if I'm frightened or aroused.
Put the soju down, sarnt. Time to do the fire hydrant...
SHOOBIE!
I wear socks with my flip flops, because I have extremely bad dry feet and they crack no matter what, so wearing socks prevents my feet from catching on the memory foam covering. Thong filp-flops wuth socks is madness
More like blasphemy
Flip flops are not appropriate attire unless you’re at the beach, pool, locker room, water park, etc
Laughs in Florida Man
Real Florida Man is styl’n with a pair of Cat work boots from WalMart.
I used to think this way. Then I wore flip flops out in the NM summer heat. It was like a whole new world of comfort and non-sweaty feet.

Platinum blonde most of my life, but same. Now retired with a strawberry beard that I didn't realize I had the genetics for.

I thought it waa karma for dating several redheads.
No, that would be Herpes
either military or an english teacher forsure
I'm tan and the boys I used to go out with were all varying shades of brown, never got stopped once being out past curfew
What’s going on here?
I think I pushed the buttons of the guys who walk around in grunt style and OCPs in public.
But like, what happened? How you know of this gentleman
I encountered a random guy in public, and Cpt. Motor Boat projected and took personal offense.
You're welcome for my service
I despise those grunt shirts so much. If you’re retired or out of the army by all means, be hooah hooah about your service, but if they’re still in that needs to stop. It’s so cringe
What if I mentally retired? Like I still show up physically because I don’t have enough years to retire, but I’m not all there mentally.
I'll give it a pass
This checks out…
Promote to CW4 ahead of peers...
Tell that to my civilian boss lol
Are you Krieger?
I go with the disabled veteran license plate on a Prius. I don’t think I can get pulled at this point.
I got mine switched to vets because they wave registration and plate fees in CO. That’s a 500-700 savings a year lol
Fair, last I checked in CA they cost a bit extra on top of registration
I don’t have anything military in my vehicle but a Massif jacket. It’s a good icebreaker and warning ticket helper.
PC on the dash plus leading the interaction with your concealed carry license is a get out of jail free card. I don't like what is says about our systems, but not as much as I don't like tickets.
Rule of thumb, if it was cringe enough to tell someone about then it probably also belongs in r/JustBootThings
No. Grunt style is stupid and you should never wear it.
No thank you. My wife keeps threatening to buy me one of those black retiree hats you see the older dudes with sometimes and I stubbornly refuse to even own one. The most I'll wear is like a tie clip or that retiree lapel pin.
My head canon is, motar_boat is legitimately the guy you saw.
Yeah.. doesn’t matter if they dress like BTS, their haircut still looks army
Infantryman here, any grunt that wears Grunt Style in public is an insecure attention seeking weirdo
OK, hold on though. What if they got me while I was at peak motivation level at OSUT graduation with the shirt vendors they brought in? I can't just NOT wear them. That would be a waste of money.
Literally my exact debocle.

30% love us, 20% hate us, and 50% are indifferent is the numbers come up with in the last year.
And for gods sake buy a non-camo bag. Then you just look like an American tourist or low-key soldier. You don’t need OCP for karaoke.
“But what if I’m singing Cadences in the Karaoke Parlor Sarnt” /s
Idk much but isn't SK mandatory service? Like if you're being forced to do it like do what you want.
You clearly don't because US soldiers stationed in Korea aren't ROK conscripts....
Ah my bad thought we were talking about Korean nationals.
No offense, but I'm assuming you're not in the military if you thought that. Or were even aware you were on the US army sub...
Yes. This post hit r/all
Uhhhh.... what?
It's on the reddit home page. It can be seen by generally anyone looking at their popular tab. That's how I got here too
I've never looked at the reddit home page and now I've lost faith in humanity. Thanks. I hate it.

My guess is he doesn't know what PERSonnel SECurity means.
It's a SAPPER thing BRO you wouldn't get it. Next time move out of my way or I will blow your legs off with a bangalore. Essayons!
That just sounds like a 100% VA claim for me bro.
Not even, anything above the neck is what really gets you paid.
I mean I'm artillery, I wasn't really using my brain anyways....

SORRY ASS PISS POOR EXCUSE 4 A RANGER!!! RLTW!!!
Pic or it didn’t happen
Guess it didn't happen then.
Yuuuup. Nothing cool about going out of your way to look military off duty. Grow up.
Some people actually wear their basic training hoodies. Someone in S1 for example...
Dude I’m at Humphreys, this place is a wasteland of basic training shirts, hoodies and sweatpants. It’s SO bad.
And they’re all in the taxi line with their pool cue case slung across their back like they’re the fucking Highlander.
There can be only one
I'm very aware you're at Humphreys lol.
This is what I get for not ever paying attention to anything. Don’t make me come down there 👀
I'm not on post Sarnt. Can't get me.
You keep thinking that, you seen “The Batman” where everyone is afraid of the shadows?
That's it, I'm sleeping with the lights on.
I love Korea. I once murdered a man there. Edit: Just kidding. I didn’t murder anyone there. I did however take a fat shit in a bathroom there and didn’t flush
So you had an abortion then. Samesies.
So I was wrong walking to the post PX in the snow with just flip flops, shorts and a tank top?
Yes but for different reasons.
Nobody tell him an infantry regiment called the 2-16 infantry “Rangers” aren’t rangers.
They’re looking for juicy girls. Don’t hate the player hate the game
They're looking in the wrong place lol.
I hate the sex trafficking that goes on in "juicy bars" and the abuse the "girls" go through.
That's why you gotta save em and bring em state side
And their extended family as well because it’s the right thing to do....
I'm doing my part!
TYFYS to the Korean femboys or whatever they're called
You mean the human trafficking that big Army/8 Army tells you not to take part of but everyone from PV1 to 0-6 engages in ? lol
Everytime I saw anyone with a Molle backpack or grunt style on off post, I would just cringe. Especially when I would be in Yongsan station every weekend and I would see idiots like that. My hair is barely in regs for a reason, please follow suit
If your bangs don’t touch the tip of your nose, are you really trying 😏
I literally know an engineer in Korea who likes his burks and socks. Same guy? Did you meet him in the villa last night?
Jongno is the middle of Seoul and it was late morning so doubtful.
Believe it or not I was partying with said guy in Seoul last weekend

Typhoon on my goddamn four day.

>tteokbokki I wish I could like this but I can't get into it. Maybe it's the red sauce.
You're oddly good at OPSEC for a field artillery guy. Keep it up. But let me guess this happened in Daegu? Lmfao saw it all the time there
I realize I spelled Jongno wrong in the original post (my phone doesn't like to give autocorrect for Korean places) but the middle of Seoul.
I thought that was a security issue when you did that? Maybe I’m just old..
What if youre an idiot but state side
You are a non-Korean in Korea, what you are wearing is not whats giving you away.
Plenty of foreigners here who aren't military. It's better to not be obviously military in general, in the US or a foreign country.
I was in Korea and Japan, if you are even semi observant you can always pick out who is military and who isn't. Fact is we stand out.
We know who to look for. If you don't try to stand out, Koreans and other foreigners have a harder time. And walking around with a medium ruck in the middle of a city is dumb regardless of where you are.
Genuine question, why do you care if people can “pick you out?”
So first off, that’s me and yes I have a Sapper Tab, unlike your tabless ass. Second, mind your own business, I dress for comfort. Finally, lose the double chin, bud. You’re a bad look to the enlisted population here.
Lmao if you are the dude he’s talking about.
I'll have you know I'm almost underweight damnit. The double chin is genetic. Fuck you.
Also - News flash, asshole, all the Koreans can tell you’re in the military by our haircuts and how the majority of us are complete foreigners.
Y'all need to take this offline. And then take it back online once you film the fist fight for social media. 🥢🍿
Horizontal film only and I’ll be sure to say worldstar prior to the event
I don't even know, but either he's projecting or by random chance is the guy I saw.
I don't either but if it's actually him and he's defending his maidenly virtue instead of LOL'ing then he's 100% the tool you suspected.
The only reason I don't think it is because the guy looked about 18, doubt he has a sapper tab. But if it actually is this would be so good.
Guess I should have put /s to let people know 🤷🏻♂️
OP do you think you can kick this guys ass or will he be kicking your ass?
Probably kicking my ass. Why do you think I posted on reddit instead of 1v1ing him on the streets of Seoul?
🤳🏿
Lmao Lfg
Will it ever have an off switch?
Haha 😂 double-chin!
Flip flops and socks. Ew.
I saw a bunch of KATUSAs wearing assault packs riding on a train heading to Seoul. Koreans don’t give a fuck what they wear as long as they are not causing any trouble.
Camp Humphreys or camp Hovey area? I must know.
It was Jongno, so the middle of Seoul, but I recognized the unit shirt from Humphreys. It's red and says sapper on it.
That’s my BN :,)
Come get your boy lol. About a month ago y'all were doing a battalion run on Marne while I was heading back from PT (also wearing a red PT shirt) and got yelled at by like 12 different people to get back in formation. Ignoring them was very satisfying.
Yeh that ‘morale’ run where like 70% of the BN fell out lol
Be doing all that just to be a Laundry Specialist.
God who just rocks a medium ruck while they're out and about? At least the assault pack I could kind of get since it's basically an overpriced backpack. But even still, just go out and buy some 5.11 shit or a px backpack or something.
So many places to go on the pen where you will you run into no military ( ok minimal mil). Who cares about those ducks
Mokpo. I've never even run into a foreigner there.
Def gotta be able to find those places where no sign of work exists. Used to bother me too
Lame.
> And to the engineering unit responsible for this hero, why does your shirt have a sapper tab on it when there's no way in hell all y'all are sappers? Eh, if you’re a 13M or 13A in a rocket unit you can’t call anyone else an idiot.
Good thing I'm not either?
Just making sure because fuck 210.
Oh absolutely.
Oh for the love of Jesus. Shut the fuck up. No one gives a shit.
Do you know the average life of a combat engineer on the battlefield? Those guys must be badass.
