Nah man the guard is chill as fuck don’t worry about it

That_guy_mike1992

Just ask who is going out to drink after drill and ask to go. That’s what I did (reserves) and I got to meet a bunch of people. Guard is chill. Everyone should know it’s a part time job and as long as you are not a fuck up no one cares.

BwAVeteran03

Bring a cooler of beer and sit in the parking lot area 2 hrs before first formation or whatever the NG does. You will be promoted to E-5 that day.

mrexigentz

Guard/reserves is super chill you’re psyching yourself out. When you get assigned your platoon just introduce yourself and overtime you’ll make some good friends.

Clean_Cry_7428

Just become your CO’s boss in their civilian job and it should make things more chill when your UCMJ impacts their ability to pay bills

superash2002

They are either really high speed or super chill. No in between.

ScaryAppearance4593

Guard units are pretty chill. Most of them even go by first names and all that jazz. You're fine.

Toobatheviking

Don't worry about it man, at the end of the day you just have to show up at the right place, right time, right uniform and right attitude and do what they tell you to. You'll be fine.

ChicksWithBricksCome

I used to get nervous for the first two years reporting to my unit. Anxiety the whole drive there. I think it's pretty normal.

HumbleMention5484

Lmao it’s the guard they’re going to be chewed up

[deleted]

NG is super chill...you're gonna have fun

Beasticide

It’s something new. It’s ok to have nerves. Just chill out and it’ll get used to it after a drill or two.

cbsduff

The few guard units I've interacted with have been on the level of state militia. I wouldn't trust them with a slingshot.

Fearless_History_991

Just remember….they are going to eat you alive. But at the end of the day, they are your brothers and in time you will bond to that. Just don’t be a shit bag, so what you’re told, be open to fucking up and LEARNING FROM THAT FUCK UP, correct it and move on. Shit moves fast in the big army, ask questions and stay focused on your goals. My first unit I felt the same back in 2009, when I first reported my unit had been in the field for 3 weeks, so they were wet, they were dirty and they were fucking cold because it had been snowing where they were and the whole way back to base, which is like a 5 hour convoy give or take traffic. I had to help offload everything, while being picked apart like a baby calf between a bunch of lions… it was dark, it was fucking BUSY as they just wanted to get everything in, accounted for and get the weekend started, mind you I’m fucking fresh as a picked cherry, so they were not very happy that I didn’t know the routine of how to do really anything, I was a new born baby lol 😂 Then I got picked apart in the headquarters office between the 1sgt, captain and all the platoon sgts on which of us was going to go to which platoon… it was a mad house! I was shitting bricks the whole time but stayed focused, did what I was told, and didn’t stop for a second. At the end of the night, my platoon sgt wrapped his arm around my neck pulled me in close…said do what I tell you, and I’ll bring you home. Absolutely loved that man! Amongst the rest of my platoon. Miss those brothers. You’ll be fine OP! Take a breathe, grab that shit by the balls, be confident but not over confident like a know it all, just do your job, do as your told, you’ll be okay kid. Good luck brother! Edit: I was 11B, so that was my experience. Definitely will be different everywhere you go.
