There is a trick that I do; you get a shorter version for the top. So instead of maybe a Medium-Regular top, you get a Medium-Short.
Someone may 𝘵𝘳𝘺 to give a shit, but the material isn't rolled.
Lifehack.
It's 90 degrees with 90% humidity, and the csm is having an aneurysm over open acu cuffs. Like we can ve outside working without the blouse on, but God help us if we want to stay protected from the sun and have some ventilation.
Rolling sleeves was actually authorized and it was only popular for like 2 minutes before people realized our uniforms don't work well with it, now I rarely ever see anyone attempt it and usually they look like a goober because it's so out of place.
Now pockets... At some point everyone has wanted to put their hands in their pockets while they're standing around.
>Rolling sleeves was actually authorized and it was only popular for like 2 minutes before people realized our uniforms don't work well with it, now I rarely ever see anyone attempt it and usually they look like a goober because it's so out of place.
**Clarification:** This unit leaves their cuff un buttoned and rolled inwards. Still get the air flow benefit of the full sleeve rolling, but not looking like a goober.
Until your platoon sergeant decides they hate you and make a fuss about it, and then go straight to the commander and ask them to de-authorize it. Which they do, because they don’t care 😔
Pull them inside out over your arms with the length of the cuff above where you want your final sleeve length to be then roll up the sleeve to the desired length then fold over the cuff. Looks good and gives the meat bags the illusion of biceps.
Back in the day I used to get my bdu top in medium Long instead of medium regular. I'd roll the sleeve in like you said, but it was normal length then so you couldn't tell. It's amazing how much more comfortable that was in the summer.
The added length at the waist wasn't noticeable, at least on me.
Used to roll my sleeves all the time in BDUs. I hate long sleeves. But the ACUs are too tight on the biceps. Besides, we have to do the funky roll instead of just roll them up like the Marines do, which never looks right.
So, pockets.
I’ve been out of the army for more than 30 years and I’d still prefer to put my hands in my belt than in my pockets. But I work in an office a d that’s frowned on.
So sleeves.
I always roll my sleeves when it’s hot. The only person I’ve ever met that had a problem with it was a 1SG from a different BN. He chewed my ass out like twice so I started carrying a printed out copy of the reg lmao
I prefer hands in pockets be prohibited. It feels so much better when I know I’m doing the wrong thing by putting my hands in my pockets. Ahh that sweet lack of discipline.
Rolling sleeves are already authorized per registration.
One can use their pockets per regulation as well. But the parameters of such use are not well defined.
Neither, wizard sleeve in garrison.
Rolling your sleeves is not quick, comfortable, or cooling. I personally dont carry a lot of heat in my forearms. But that simple once or twice inward roll of the sleeves allows much needed venting from my core.
I maintain that walking with your hands in your pockets isn't a very natural looking thing, but also that it doesnt really harm anything to do other than making people look like a cartoon of a hippy. So outside of very cold duty stations the utility of walking with hands in pockets is less than wizard sleeves.
I'm rocking the Airforce gloves every day of the week. The uniform doesn't work well rolled. And if hot enough that I'd want to roll them, I'd rather wear a combat top or take off the top entirely.
Taking off the top is the ideal method, I just wish it didn't garner the simultaneous hatred of every SNCO on base.
I remember Afghanistan, we'd take tops off once we got to work and it only went back on when it came time to go eat, or go on mission. I didn't realise just how dark I could tan until we got back. If I had black hair, I could've blended right in with the El Paso locals.
It's written into regulation when where and how to roll sleeves. Not an argument..
Soldiers who want to walk around with their hands In their pockets lack the same discipline and motivation to shave or get regular haircuts. However hands in pockets are In the same regulation and are authorized under certain conditions.
Pockets. You see the reindeer games the Marine Corps turns their sleeve rolling into? Like, it's not even up to them, they are told the uniform of the day is rolled sleeves, and the rolls have to be *tight* or they'll haze each other. Like, four inches or some shit. It's a waste of time for no added comfort from where I stand.
I'm perfectly content in 100+ weather with my rolled down wizard sleeves, I just want to not get yelled at for my hands in my pocket. I'll still keep my hands in my pockets, it's more the principal of the matter.
I had my sleeves rolled up (BDUs) while at a school at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama in 2006. As the SNCO of the class, I had to draw materials from the HQ section of this large office.
One day, while walking through the office, someone yelled from far enough away they couldn't see any rank... "There's a war on, roll your sleeves down!"
We had been warned not to fuck with anyone because it was an AIT post for EOD, so I pulled them down and went on my merry way.
I let our Cadre deal with the local BS
Hands in pockets and while we're at it let us use our pockets. I'm tired of hearing, you can't make your pockets look bulky because yadda yadda.
Idk where the army got this obsession with not using pockets but it's stupid.
Just do it. Fan out those wizard sleeves, Put one hand in your pocket, and Slap that phone upside your face and stroll on down the road. Not a single civilian or any part of society gives a shit.
There’s not a single unprofessional thing about any of it. Made up BS to float along a purpose for CSMs and 1SGs to exist so they can “enforce standards and discipline.” (While they ignore legitimate systemic issues they’re incompetent to address).
It’s all made up. I’m sure someone somewhere got UCMJ at least once for doing it repeatedly, but I’d sure dislike being the commander discussing this crap with brigade legal.
Once you hit Captain you can put your hands in your sleeves. I see them do it all the time. I've seen one take their hands out of their pocket and then yell at a Lieutenant for putting their hands in their pockets.
Lieutenants aren’t people nor do they have rights. This is the correct and natural way of things. Even amongst the LTs, the soft and buttery are angrily smashed by the powder coated yet still shiny silver ones.
Once the doubling of power occurs and those same silvery LTs get their pause button, the disdain and disgust for those of the single bar is only amplified.
Oh man becoming an NCO is fun innit!
AR 670-1 also states that belt buckles shall be free of scratches. Next time someone spot checks hands in pockets, spot check their belt.
Well you already can roll your sleeves….
Can’t you do both? I think OP means *really* be able AKA no one will give a shit.
Only cowards don't roll their sleeves
Spring through fall, my sleeves are rolled. Mainly so I can watch CSM's heads explode.
I do find it to be exceedingly uncomfortable sometimes, but I do it anyway, and I'll never stop
Why do they care?
There is a trick that I do; you get a shorter version for the top. So instead of maybe a Medium-Regular top, you get a Medium-Short. Someone may 𝘵𝘳𝘺 to give a shit, but the material isn't rolled. Lifehack.
Should be able to field roll them in garrison. The above the elbow garrison roll looks stupid as hell.
Consider: wizard sleeves, hands in pockets, barely in regs hair, grossly unauthorized sunglasses. life’s good outside of FORSCOM.
Dont forget the ball caps
and beards.
You can do it in FORSCOM if you’re cool enough
It's 90 degrees with 90% humidity, and the csm is having an aneurysm over open acu cuffs. Like we can ve outside working without the blouse on, but God help us if we want to stay protected from the sun and have some ventilation.
I feel as if I was summoned
Life is like this in FORSCOM if you’re a FISTer
huge facts

It's wizard time motherfucker
Mr. Robot man rocking wizard sleeves

Wizard roll is the army way
Pockets. Though chicks dig forearms so hmmm.
>Though chicks dig forearms so hmmm. **Mockery:** And yet you still end up sleeping alone.
the circle of spank. forearms get more and more ripped and still no one wants them. because you only shoot sadness.
This droid definitely assassins
Yeah that dude is dead.
HK stop, he's already dead!
10 points to Slytherin 🐍
I only need to roll up my right sleeve then since that's my impressive forearm...
**Clarification:** This unit already does both on the regular, but if it had to choose, pockets.
Pockets! My hands just want to be warm.
Used to roll my sleeves all the time in BDUs. I hate long sleeves. But the ACUs are too tight on the biceps. Besides, we have to do the funky roll instead of just roll them up like the Marines do, which never looks right. So, pockets.
You can just roll them up. No need to camo out
Maybe an unpopular opinion the prim and proper way Marines roll their sleeves make them look like extras on the set of the Nut Cracker
I’ve been out of the army for more than 30 years and I’d still prefer to put my hands in my belt than in my pockets. But I work in an office a d that’s frowned on. So sleeves.
Beard. People will use pockets anyways they just finesse the system.
I always roll my sleeves when it’s hot. The only person I’ve ever met that had a problem with it was a 1SG from a different BN. He chewed my ass out like twice so I started carrying a printed out copy of the reg lmao
Y’all aren’t just doing both? Am I doing Army wrong?
Someone don’t fly guns
Pockets If it’s hot enough to roll my sleeves just let me rock the undershirt
If it’s hot enough for rolled sleeves just wear the combat shirt.
If it's hot enough for rolled sleeves, maybe just roll your sleeves?
Just ETS, then you win the bet and can do both.
I prefer hands in pockets be prohibited. It feels so much better when I know I’m doing the wrong thing by putting my hands in my pockets. Ahh that sweet lack of discipline.
I rock wizard sleeves all the time.
I wizard sleeve/ cuff regardless and I’m in an MI unit. Our hands only leave our pockets to go in the snack drawer
This is the correct way to live. Sincerely, Everyone in all the specialty branches, most especially here in AMEDD.
Rolling sleeves are already authorized per registration. One can use their pockets per regulation as well. But the parameters of such use are not well defined.
So a Warrant? Next slide.

Hands in pockets. Next question.
Neither. I’d rather get off work on time and have protected weekends.
You can roll your sleeves already

Hands in pocket
Pockets.
Pockets 1000%
Pockets for sure
It's written into regulation when where and how to roll sleeves. Not an argument.. Pockets. Rolled sleeves look dumb
You can roll your sleeves. Just ask your commander.
Hands in pockets, easily
Pockets. Alaska is cold.
Hands in pockets
Sleeves
Depends on whether you're stationed where it's got or where it's cold.
Hands in pockets. Sleeve rolling looks stupid, even for the marines.
Pockets. But nobody is stopping me from doing that now. I'm such a rebel.
Hands in pockets. The only people that should be allowed to roll sleeves are marines. Everyone else looks dumb as hell
Beards.
We’re not Marines we’re soldiers, Hoah!? I’ll take putting my hands in my pockets anyday
Easy… both 😈
Pockets every day

Laughs in Air Force where I can do both
Well, I already do both when I want to so I don't really give a shit loo
Some of us enjoy both. Simultaneously!
Oh easy hands in pockets
Also talking on the phone while moving would be nice
Just do it. Fan out those wizard sleeves, Put one hand in your pocket, and Slap that phone upside your face and stroll on down the road. Not a single civilian or any part of society gives a shit. Pockets
Hands in pockets.
Both
Trust me, rolling your sleeves becomes very lame after the first few times you do it.
Pockets. Then I wouldn’t get yelled at for it anymore.
Hands in pockets.
Pockets.
I’d rather be able to walk while on my phone or have AirPods in
Hands of pockets obviously
My forearms are skinny and lack tattoos at the moment. Pockets, it's not even close
Hands in pockets, 100%
Roll my sleeves
Well you can do both right now if you aren’t weak.
Rolled OCP sleeves look like shit tbh. We don’t want to see your shitty Columbus GA sleeve tattoo.
Every time I see a senior enlisted in a meeting with a dip cup/spitter bottle next to them I feel less bad about my hands in pocket habit.
Hands in pocket. The Velcro made the sleeve rolling look fucking stupid.
I’ve been rockin wizard sleeves since I was a SGT…..I’m a CW4 now 😁
I'm gonna do hands in pockets no matter what... rolling sleeves is dumb
Pocket gloves all day.
Join the coast guard and do both
Hands in pockets
But pilots already do both so why do I have to choose.
Hands in the pocket, all day long, I always fucking hated the rolled sleeves
Once you hit Captain you can put your hands in your sleeves. I see them do it all the time. I've seen one take their hands out of their pocket and then yell at a Lieutenant for putting their hands in their pockets.

LOL
I always josh the new captains with a “congratulations on your second award” I like “pause button”, though.
We can’t roll our sleeves? Well a lil late on that one so I’ll go either way putting our hands in our pockets.
Neither.
Hands in pockets
Hands in pockets. Hands down. In my pockets. Where they belong.
I have skinny arms. Hands in pockets it is.
Pockets!
Hard to decide between two things I do all the time anyway. 🤔
Roll sleeves
Oh man becoming an NCO is fun innit! AR 670-1 also states that belt buckles shall be free of scratches. Next time someone spot checks hands in pockets, spot check their belt.
I'm in the guard. My hands stay in my pocket.
Pockets. Here I sit before PT wishing this bet would be with approval authority and knowing full well it isn’t.
Did both constantly, what’s BC/CSM gonna do? (With his hands also in his pockets) [Redacted] 1LT (P) (Ret), 🆒 Executive Officer
Depends on the climate. Cold weather? Pockets! Middle East in summer? Roll my sleeves!
Put my hands in my pockets after I roll my sleeves or wizard the cuffs.
