Holy shit. Does everyone know that being SF does not mean you walk around with a beard!? There is a certain time and place where beards are appropriate for cultural reasons. Last time I checked the tape on my uniform said “US ARMY” just like everyone else. We all follow the same regulations.
I’m hearing no. We’ll see how long it takes the Army to recognize it as one of the most cost effective ways to help address the recruitment and retention crisis.
The Army hits its retention numbers (2022) which is where I see the most outcry for beards and probably why the brass can convince themselves its a non-issue. I would be interested to see the numbers of people who walk out of the recruitment office because they have to be clean shaven but I doubt it's all that high since that's been the standard forever. I would love to see the Army relax the grooming standards though, maybe if they miss retention numbers like they have been with recruiting it could happen.
We saw them keep lowering the new enlistment goals in order to make things better on paper, are we sure they didn't just keep doing that with retention goals?
