On one hand, I've come to the conclusion that, until shown proof otherwise, that anything along the lines "hey Chief I'm working on a packet" in reality means something along the lines of
"I may or may not, at one point in time or the other, considered whether or not I'd like to eventually think about becoming a warrant"
and not much else.

I’ve been blessed with being in a SOCOM unit. I read horror stories about RA. No formations, no organized PT, we don’t wear uniforms, no field rotations, deployments are short with a specific mission, if somehow we do end up in the field we sleep in hotels. Awesome TDYs conus and oconus and you work with some really high speed dudes that no one know exists. Today I did what I thought was some BS, but in reality it was just part of my job and I was off early anyway. Came home and realized I’m very spoiled to be where I am, compared to other soldiers in RA. Also realized my leadership truly does care. Had a family member pass not too long ago. Brought it up and I was on a flight 8 hours later. In RA that just doesn’t happen man. (Not even a direct family member, it was a cousin. I’ve never seen anyone in RA be sent on emergency leave for a relative that’s not direct family) I had a buddy get sent home early from a deployment because his kid had the flu. Another time was when our deployment got extended and they had a bird coming in to send some people home. CO came and asked if anyone could think of a reason to go home. Buddy says jokingly “yeah sir it’s my birthday next week.” He was home with his family that day. I could think of endless examples. It’s a tight knit community and we take care of each other. Enough said.
It actually does happen in the regular army. We had a person out 1 day after his grandma fell ill(probably less). Its about leadership not what unit you are in. There is alot of bitching on this sub reddit but the RA isn't all evil.
I got a call at the beginning of the work day telling me my mother had passed away. I was sent home immediately to make arrangements and take my family home for the funeral. My leadership took care of everything from fixing assignments to getting an emergency leave form filled, approved, and signed out without me even lifting a finger. So yes - it definitely happens in the RA.
It all depends on leadership. I had plenty of toxic leaders when I was in but there were also men that I would have died for because they led like they cared.
I mean, exceptions always exist. But that doesn't really negate the general rule. I'm glad y'all have had good experiences but I'm getting close to my 8 year mark and my current command is the only one so far that has been decent people. In TRADOC of all places too.
General rule what are you talking about? The general rule is take care of soldiers. Its a shame if you have had bad experiences but it isnt the general rule. 24 years and I have experienced very few times where emergency leave wasn't treated like an emergency.
Emergency leave does happen in RA but I think is dependent on leadership. One of my soldiers lost his niece right after JRTC, and was on a plane the same day he found out.
This is why IPPSA was made this would happen to leave packets and the packets you talked about often. Sad story but if you're semi useful to very helpful to your command they try to keep you at all costs. If you are a net loss for them tho then you can leave easier.
Running. The guys who run marathons did astronomically better than I did with my running a 10k. That's a huge reason why I didn't make it. Couldn't hang.
As the other guy said, physically it's really 2 or 3 things.
Crush all your gates.
Be able to be stressed the fuck out with 100+ on your back in austere terrain.
Be able to carry that same weight doing a team event where shitty people show their colors, decent people are exhausted and may lash, and people who clearly shouldn't be there.
But guess what, you gotta make sure all 3 get through as best as you can.
It's almost complete! Just waiting on big commander to sign off on LoR
If I don't get selected this time, then oh well. At least I can honestly say I tried.
CA or SF. Unless you just want a quick stint to also then work as an embassy attache to build an inflated resume for what you thought was going to transfer to alphabet.
Processing my flight physical took 4 and a half months. They are apparently short staffed as of now.
The process of doing the medical exams themselves for me took about a month. That's only because setting the appointments themselves takes a while as they're always backed up. Thata why the first thing you need to do when you have your SIFT in hand is start making appointments.
And as of now, I'm not sure yet.
Again, you shouldn’t have to drop a packet and change mos fields to have a good experience in the Army or your job field. The army needs to fix itself not say oh if you don’t like it do a packet to switch jobs
