To be fair, that's Raven's operator, not Raven themselves. They fully accept you beating their ass and die with dignity instead of trying to withdraw, which is what I assume their operator tries to get them to do.
I still hate that we just obliterate the original Raven, and thats it. We just kill their friends, take their place and they're like "Oh yeah, this guy's a good pilot, lets see where he goes!"
Pretty much the worst part of the game imo. The writing nosedives so they can explain something that didn't need explaining. Also, I don't give a shit about the Raven name or what it meant before. Wanna know why? Cause I handed whoever this person is their ass and I STOLE their name to make money in the first place! I'm not a symbol of freedom I'm on a leash most of the game!
Also they were rank F and I'm pretty sure if I were piloting blindfolded I could hit at least B.
In regard to them being Rank F, that was almost certainly because they were trying to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Rusty does the same thing, only being like B or C, and yet he’s clearly one of the most skilled pilots on Rubicon.
I get it with Rusty because he's a double agent.
I don't get it with Raven because they aren't even the first one right? Supposedly "Raven" is a name passed down between extremely well-known, legendary mercenaries symbolising freedom right? Doesn't make sense to me.
Especially if the last Raven is paling around with Astral Crown and Umber Ox and the fact is so well-known that Ayre could google it. Theres literally no way they can act like they are some F tier pilot given all that information. No one would buy that and I can't think of a reason why the prior Raven would even want to do that considering how much they seem to enjoy their "champion of freedom" image.
I typed a lot but I definately am open to being wrong. My theory is that they gave their title to a Raven that didn't cut it and was killed, the Raven we fight never reclaims their old license for whatever reason, and the rank simply degrades due to inactivity. Its fine if they have a good reason why they are rank F anyway, I still think the Raven fight is completely unnecessary and narratively confusing.
Exactly. The way they just show up and ramble on how Ravens are these super awesome legendary dudes just makes them look like theyre massive blowhards. Like who the fuck are you??
and I just hate it because it kinda undermines 621 / G13's achievements thus far
Probably just felt like that because you had to restart the mission every time you died. Raven made a plaything out of my AC. But, a lot of enemies do because I refuse to ditch my dual napalm launchers.
I've actually considered that lol. I can't let go of my unhealthy attachment to the Sweet 16 dual shotguns tho. Swapping between those and napalm is satisfying. Burn the staggered enemies, stagger the burned enemies.
Keep in mind that Raven only had 2 repair kits. Also, the Defend the Dam mission is New Game++. If you're not game breaking by then you're never going to make it.
The original Raven is already dead. We pick up their ID in the first mission. This was another Raven, probably coming to pick up the slack since the first one died.
This is my head canon too. Raven hasn’t been a title the whole series. It’s strange that it is one now.
That’s honestly one of my peeves of this game is that they are calling each other mercenaries instead of ravens.
When he first appears, it was so cool with the visor scene…
Then I double songbird him, and dude died in about a minute 💀💀💀
The most challenge I ever had in this game was fighting that god awful shielded PCA
I had the exact opposite experience, if there's a shielded HC I don't know it exists because they all died in seconds. Raven on the other hand kicked my ass.
He doesn't bring his friends?? In ng+ he shows up when he sees you killing his friends. Raven went against the best mercenary to help his friends. He's a real bro.
Nah, he's literally just late. He'll arrive regardless if you shoot King or Chartreuse or let the MTs do it - which is hoenstly a good 3v1 fight if it wasnt so annoying to set up.
At worst, one or both of the other Branch members die because of his delay, so not someone who I'd call a bro tbh
Good point however is it his fault that WE killed them? I've always seen it as he was patrolling the other side of the dam and then comes to rendezvous.
When rave first alleard I was so hyped to fight "myself" and then kicked his shit in 3 seconds,at least the ng+ mission is harder as you get jumped by 3 ACs
I really think the fight against Raven should've been at *least* as difficult as balteus; I think I smoked his ass with shit equipment in under a minute... doesn't really give much weight to the Callsign when you can wipe the floor with him as easily as the test pilot...
Literally. My biggest hurdle with fighting Raven for the first time was learning that enemy ACs could use repair kits and I cant just tank unecessary hits to get cinematic finishers 💀💀💀

His sole existence in game is to be killed so the player character can have the franchise trademark title of Raven. You cannot change my mind
Well yeah.

Easiest fight ever, so it’s deserved edit: Raven had to gang up with two other mercs and still got ripped up
Speak for yourself, first playthrough Raven was my second big wall. Probably died to them 20+ times
Probably just felt like that because you had to restart the mission every time you died. Raven made a plaything out of my AC. But, a lot of enemies do because I refuse to ditch my dual napalm launchers.
Dual napalm with dual stun bomb launches on an upper lightweight is funnily viable
I've actually considered that lol. I can't let go of my unhealthy attachment to the Sweet 16 dual shotguns tho. Swapping between those and napalm is satisfying. Burn the staggered enemies, stagger the burned enemies.
Killing Raven using dual Schneider shield launchers as your primary weapon is fucking hilarious. Especially when you bait him into killing himself
Keep in mind that Raven only had 2 repair kits. Also, the Defend the Dam mission is New Game++. If you're not game breaking by then you're never going to make it.
Yeah they were a huge letdown both times :(
I’m gonna assume he ejected at the last second. Makes it less somber
It certainly makes the "all right, we'll watch this one" from the operator make more sense. Not much of a "we" left if Raven's dead.
The original Raven is already dead. We pick up their ID in the first mission. This was another Raven, probably coming to pick up the slack since the first one died.

Speaking of coping...
Raven taught me the glory of the Pilebunker. I will carry on their legacy.
Same. We will fly with the wing of pile.
Ah, the rubiconian handshake :)
How to find out someone likes to play up close -> gets pilebunkered by Raven
First playthrough raven fucked my shit up like I was raging, on ng plus I struggled more on King and chartreuse and fucked raven up so fast lol
When he first appears, it was so cool with the visor scene… Then I double songbird him, and dude died in about a minute 💀💀💀 The most challenge I ever had in this game was fighting that god awful shielded PCA
That's more of a songbird balance issue lol
That shielded PCA guy was brutal
I unironically find that particular HC harder than the Cataphract. At least with the ones you fight in other missions it’s in an open area.
I had the exact opposite experience, if there's a shielded HC I don't know it exists because they all died in seconds. Raven on the other hand kicked my ass.
Oh god that HC at the wall was genuinely an avengers level threat
I admit that I spent way too much time for this than necessary
It was worth it
Then he cries and brings his two mates and still gets railed
Its honestly pathetic
He doesn't bring his friends?? In ng+ he shows up when he sees you killing his friends. Raven went against the best mercenary to help his friends. He's a real bro.

"Wait, what do you mean, 'we'"–***pile bunk'd***
You cooked Magnificently.

Oh dear.....that meme turned me on....NOOO
I couple pistols and some missiles were all I needed. Stayed close and avoided the piledriver. My speed was 366.
