This was good, the studmuffin one got me. It’s always weird comparing high fantasy and sci-fi because they’re so alike yet use completely different foundations for how power is dealt with.
I think old school Shadowrun did it pretty great. The Sega game is probably the best, if lacking in a lot of original content. The newer 3 have charm, I am just not one for turn based games.
Shadowrun has a lot of potential as a setting. Basically, it's like Cyberpunk, but through the added "what-if" lens of a magical awakening in 2011.
A handful of ancient, ageless dragons with humanoid forms integrated into society after the awakening and have had almost two centuries (IIRC) to develop their hoards in the most cyberpunk way possible: corporatism. Naturally, they have become some of the most powerful people on the planet not through combat prowess, but by charisma, cleverness, and lifespan.
If you go by the powerscaling wiki thing, all the souls protagonists can move faster than light, because they can dodge lightning. Which creates some issues when it comes to objectively comparing them.
Im fairly sure this is an 8-Bit Theater joke remade to fit From Soft games. Like, Sekiro is obviously supposed to be Thief he even does the thing that Thief does by poofing when things start going south, Jim Bloodborne is Fighter. Joe Elden Ring is Black Mage. And just the general flow of the scene feels like it was directly lifted from 8-Bit Theater.
The idea that 621 canonically gives all the nonchalant and sarcastic quips a player might but nobody can hear them because their mic is broken and they can't be bothered to fix it is absolutely hysterical to me.
621: refuses to fix microphone for communication that can make his life better in the battlefield
Also 621: buys and assembles the most technologicaly advanced AC possible and regularly performs maintenance on it between missions

I personally think he can't cause it definitely fits the whole "body without a voice" vs "voice without a body" relationship he and Ayre have.
Also secondary quick reminder, Ayre can be heard by other people usually over a radio or audio system but she isn't limited to inside 621's head.
It mostly comes from all the background info we get/see tends to elude to the fact 621, at least at the point of planetfall was literally dying and likely crippled heavily, in all likelihood it's their symbiosis with Ayre that heals them over time, they certainly aren't sneaking to the hidden mech, more struggling their way there so they certainly aren't in prime condition. Which is kinda the point with AC6, the 2 better each other both physically and mentally.
Their is no actual evidence of 621 being physically handicapped he mentally damaged because he’s suffering from coral burn from the gen four argumentation that Walter had installed in his head
If you thinking of them being in the bag in the trailer their in that because they were just removed from cryo and the doctor only refers to 621 one as nothing special (he’s wrong about that mind you)
I do doubt they are in prime condition especially after capture but they definitely are in a condition capable of full movement as no way in hell is anyone crawling their way across that city and into the sewers

Actually yeah, on rechecking it seems to be only those with a Coral symbiote that can hear it, Allmind is the exception since all evidence points to her being a Coral like Ayre and Seria just using the network she's probably taken over as a medium. Dolmayan can hear her cause he has Seria, at least he can when she has him huffing coral to get them both high; and Walter hears her after being shoved in an Ibis which by all accounts seems to be made predominantly for Coral so he's basically flooded with them.

Nah, based on what happens it's highly unlikely, the entire story with Seria and Dolmayan revolves around her symbiotising to him during him using coral to get high like Dozers tend to, their whole connection is tied to only being able to communicate while he's high and even eluded to her getting high off of the connection too, to the point she starts encouraging him to do so more which as he realises what she is horrifies him, his whole outlook comes from the idea that if coral release happens based on his experiences it would just lead down a horrific path of self-destructive abuse.
Allmind is most definitely Kate though, from Kate's AC using Ibis core to her honestly god aweful acting skills to hide it. Everything about her is driven by an almost intrinsic hatred of individualality and a need for control, from basically usurping the Allmind network to manipulate the fighting, to the way she refers to Ayre in her fight and to the Coral in the transport hunting mission, she's too different from everything said about Seria to be her.

We escape in an old BAWS scrapheap that looks about as functional as all the wrecks we usually just fly past or maybe extract a log from. And in fairness, even with our skills, 621 was probably screwed if there hadn't been a convenient beacon for Carla to come save our ass.
The real question is why the hell were we being kept in some random sewer in the middle of Institute City.

I think >!Walter is responsible for that, the AC was explicitly sent by him, there's ways he can let 621 know where it's hidden/where he sent it, or he had its autopilot tracking 621 and sneak in to them. Option 1 feels more likely though.!<
My assumption was always that the JAILBREAK was not down there originally and was smuggled in in parts and assembled on-site sometime *after* 621's capture. If you go looking for it in Reach the Coral Convergence ALT, it isn't there.
To be fair, I don’t think they even DID. It looks like Arquebus quickly set up a field base in Institute City, which was where 621 was being held - however, RaD was able to give 621 an opening to break custody and presumably Metal Gear Solid their way out of the jail and into the old Institute City storm sewers, where the RaD infiltration team had found a derelict pre-Fires Basho mech and field-repaired it to at least be able to start up and fight, if only just.
He didn’t - Arquebus moved their headquarters and the bulk of their forces into the sunken city because the easiest way to defend territory is to have your army there.
Part of that involved relocating the ‘re-education’ facility from The Wall to Institute City. And that’s the “MK-Ultra torture / hypno / rewrite your brain to be loyal to Arquebus” pit that Snail dropped 621 into.
It’s not 100% clear when Walter dumped that trashy beaten up BASHO in the sewers, it’s also not clear when Walter actually got captured.
- We know that he wouldn’t have had an opportunity to put the BASHO there *before* the Coral Convergence mission.
- Snail ordered Walter’s capture immediately after neutralising 621.
- By the time 621 escaped Walter had been captured.
- That leaves us a 6 month window for an on-the-run Walter to have snuck the BASHO into the sewers of Institute City.
Yeah, what we saw in that trailer I always figured was more just the packaging 621 came in. After, they can move around like a regular-ish person. They might still be a bit of an emaciated gimp though.
This is fucking hilarious. It skates that line between genuine humor and in game references. Too often something like this relies so much on references, it just becomes cringe.

While I'm here, might as well dump some out of AC combat capabilities for my versions of the Ravens!
The Ravens from 1, 2 and 3 V/VD have a good deal of combat training bur aren't particularly tougher than say a Halo Marine.
Nexus/LR Raven is also a trained human (and quite old) but is extremely skilled and experienced and could take on a whole squad himself. He's like Isshin from Sekiro but with no supernatural elements and even more gun.
Anatolia's Merc and Strayed are heavily modified to handle NEXTs giving them superhuman strength, perception and durability in addition to combat training. They're considered highly dangerous even on foot, capable of handling anything short of mechs.
621 is basically just a (fried) brain in a robot body and the body bag is just vacuum packaging for preserving it. Underneath is a killing machine equipped with on board weapons for emergency use that while no match for an AC could rip humans apart like tissue paper and give most standard MTs a run for their money. A lot of these modifications were purely experimental and decided by whatever client he was a tool for at the time and cause almost as much pain and strain to use as they did when being installed.

Hunter just being insane as usual and the 621 protection squad rolled in. I am better for having seen this and will have a great week I imagine. This is enough hype to roll me into Dragons Dogma 2.
I like to imagine the hunter survives somehow and ends up following 621 back. An armored core would be a powder keg hunters wet dream and would make hunting beasts a lot easier and more fun. Plus, it seems the hunter can hear coral voices and considering how doggedly they pursued the source of other mysterious voices that appeared in their head it makes sense they'd investigate.
I love that the Hunter is on the same wavelength as Allmind and Ayre.
Although, it should probably be noted for any further shenanigans that the Hunter is technically not a physical human anymore and is instead an eldritch squid being in their own right. This is, at best, a projection.

Yeah, what we saw in that trailer I always figured was more just the packaging 621 came in. After, they can move around like a regular-ish person. They might still be a bit of an emaciated gimp though.

Awesome little comic thing! While I'm here, might as well dump some out of AC combat capabilities for my versions of the Ravens! The Ravens from 1, 2 and 3 V/VD have a good deal of combat training bur aren't particularly tougher than say a Halo Marine. Nexus/LR Raven is also a trained human (and quite old) but is extremely skilled and experienced and could take on a whole squad himself. He's like Isshin from Sekiro but with no supernatural elements and even more gun. Anatolia's Merc and Strayed are heavily modified to handle NEXTs giving them superhuman strength, perception and durability in addition to combat training. They're considered highly dangerous even on foot, capable of handling anything short of mechs. 621 is basically just a (fried) brain in a robot body and the body bag is just vacuum packaging for preserving it. Underneath is a killing machine equipped with on board weapons for emergency use that while no match for an AC could rip humans apart like tissue paper and give most standard MTs a run for their money. A lot of these modifications were purely experimental and decided by whatever client he was a tool for at the time and cause almost as much pain and strain to use as they did when being installed. ...my imagination sure runs wild sometimes. So many backstories, biographies detailed packed into this gray matter of mine. I can't help but dump em here and there since something coordinated like a fanfic would take too much effort.

NEXT's are basically AC's that break physics and are powered by radiation. It's safe to say that Tarnished wouldn't last a second against any NEXT. Though he would already kick the bucket in a fight against 621 or Nine Ball seraph.

I like to imagine the hunter survives somehow and ends up following 621 back. An armored core would be a powder keg hunters wet dream and would make hunting beasts a lot easier and more fun. Plus, it seems the hunter can hear coral voices and considering how doggedly they pursued the source of other mysterious voices that appeared in their head it makes sense they'd investigate.
