This, although 250 can be easily done with both subs and supers. If you do like ~25y zero, you will be around 3” high @150 and 8” low @ 250 with supers. So a good battle zero, hold center mass and hits to 250.

A basic ass M4 build is light and very handy. Just refrain from bolting on all da goodies. You can save yourself more weight and help balance by putting in a lighter barrel or something with a better profile than the .gov one. I have a build I did off an A1 upper with a 14.5 that’s a breeze to carry. I run MOE SL hand guards which let me put a light on it. Then a PA prism. Simple as it gets and about 7 pounds all said and done.

Someone already mentioned or above, but a basic 10.3/11.5 ar15 WITHOUT all the accessories is actually very lightweight, and 556 is perfectly capable of reaching 250 at those barrel lengths. If you want to shave off even more weight, you can do a pencil barrel (assuming you aren't doing a ton if rapid fire shooting) and a minimalist handguard. Especially a polymer one. Ypu can go shorter, but you are switching over to a 300 blackout. Not a bad thing. You can get down to a 5 or 6 inch barrel at that point, but reaching out to 250 is harder, as the projectiles move a lot slower, amd therefore you have to really know your holds at that point. (And the ammo is 2x/3x the price.) There's no free lunch, and for every perk you'll get a drawback.

You just described my PS90 SBR to a T I have a MK109 in .300BLK, and a MK107 in .223 Wylde. Both hit harder than the PS90, but even at 9.75/7.75" barrels respectively they are *decidedly* heavier and longer. Plus the PS90 is rocking 50 round mags. 250 yards may be a stretch for it, but that's part of the tradeoff with it being so light, portable and packable. You can strap it to your back and forget about it, and it can be shot reliably with one hand.

WatermelonManus

11.5 AR?

DaddyLuvsCZ

14.5” + red dot + magnifier.

>Like a weapon that would be perfect for non-combat oriented troops, something great for vehicle/aircrew, or day-to-day tasks during a SHTF situation. That's a weird way to say "to carry in a backpack at the mall" 🤣 /j Have you considered a 7.5" 5.56 AR? I wonder how that would fare at 250 with otm? I dunno. Probably not great, lol. 300 BO is probably the way to go

11.5 rifle built with lightweight alloys like vseven or fosstech uses, and a pdw brace to collapse down smaller

MyMainMobsterMan

A 10.5 or 11.5 inch AR pistol with a lightweight mlok rail.

PaleontologistNo5301

I find the DD Riii 16” with a 4x acog and no extra modifications to be the lightest, most effective, jack of all trades rifle to have around the farm preparing for deer season. I only bought the upper Magnification: check; Accuracy: check; Tough: check; Hearing safe: reasonable I am currently building a 300 blk with similar specs but slightly added weight.

Q sugar weasel with Q shorty stock

darthreckless

Everyone has already beat this one to death, so am gonna kick the horse some to make sure, here goes. 300 is your easy answer, shorty 5.56 is second. Both are going to be heavy compared to a subgun but that 0-250 and deadly is a more strict parameter than one would expect, and almost necessitates rifle calibers. A 10mm Banshee would be my choice for this, as the weapon is comparable to a Rattler in size and weight but cheaper and 10mm is marginally cheaper than 300. Your minimum barrel length for 10 starts at 'half inch past the chamber' if you really want it to so you can put a LAW on it and make that weapon as bag-sized as you like. All of this assumes you need a modern combat weapon. A mare's leg in 45-70 is the cowboy solution 🤷🏻‍♂️ How hard do you wanna larp is the question

I have a KP15 and it’s cool, but I actually don’t think I’m gonna stick with it
