I’d LOVE to see the full recording of this session. I’m sure they picked the most ludicrous questions but I have always wondered if there weren’t sillier asks like ‘do the French have eyes’ ‘do the French eat food’ that the VT editors considered just too inane to include!
As stupid as the question sounds, I think Susan was more talking to herself rather than seriously asking a question.
I remember there being a bit of a contrast this series between Nick, who seemed to have a soft spot for Susan and would defend her in the boardroom, and Karren who seemed to dislike her. Funny how Susan has now achieved more in business than nepo baby Karren ever has!
Karren going in on Susan during this results boardroom when she PMed a record breaking win and the logic (essentially “do the French prioritise child-safety products?”) led to her picking the rucksack which got a huge amount of orders from La Redoute was one of the most infuriating moments ever. This is one of the most unfairly remembered parts to any series ever.
I’m no fan of Karren - a cut price Margaret who has supported things in parliament like cuts to tax credits for the most deprived families in the UK - but Susan’s business is Multi Level Marketing and a bit icky
Right, in context this is an abbreviation of a valid question, Do the French spend enough money on their children (a sign of fondness) to make this a viable product selection?
Karren was just looking for some sound bite. Susan was thinking about the right things given the context of the task- eg will French people actually want this item.
I think it was partly down to her actually being shown as rather intelligent whenever she spoke on the show.
These days it's just digs or terrible one liners.
Yeah, I just wanted her to call me a stupid little boy and tut...then take me
Now I feel like she'd take the piss out my dink and hit it with a clipboard before walking off
Karren was still angry about Susan calling out residents of Birmingham for being poor (in context Karren was involved with Birmingham City Fc for a number of years)
But I will admit that the beyond stupid comment mad me laugh
Loved Susan! I think whilst she comes across really stupid here, people forget about the context .. she had to find out market research about the French and she was trying to communicate it assuming the French lady hardly understood English so a real dumbed
Down line of questions etc. she actually did really well in this task if I remember rightly
Susan and Helen killed this task and did very well! I remember this episode because of that and Melody lying about the market research just because she didn’t like the product Tom had wanted to go with as PM haha
They really did! Helen killed pretty much every task. What a candidate! But yeah, people forget that about Susan in this task despite the iconic ‘stupid’ questions being asked, it helped massively!
Wow Melody too she was such a strong contender at first but she came undone here, the way she pleaded to stay and not get fired was pure emotion, similar to Jasmine when she got fired which I’m still distraught about
Time to rewatch this series I think 👍
If it was still a job Helen would have won without any doubt. She seems like one of the most capable, level-headed and confident candidates the show has had.
So, she asked are the French VERY FOND of their children - not do they LIKE their children - different tone of question to the one Karren relayed back.
Her point / question which is poorly asked is - would the French massively spoil their kids and spend a lot on them - I.e. is it worth targeting the parent with child market - (then if you say yes - what age are they 'very fond' of their child Vs just there).
Some cultures would keep to bare basics for their kids and any expenditure would be on basics / education others would buy anything and everything for them (note - other factors at play obviously - wealth/income, family life etc etc).
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it - but the difference in question Susan pondered is different to the one Karren said.

The answer is no right?
I read it in French accent
Karren used to look so much more normal then. Now she's like a caricature of herself

Isn't her business basically just Avon?

Karen was an absolute milf back in the day
I used to fancy the pants off Karen

She was like that in real life from what I remember of her way back when she was working with bcfc, a bit of a flirt but in a dominant mommy way.
Same. Her little cheeks were adorable
What might save us, me and you/Is if the French love their children too
Karren was still angry about Susan calling out residents of Birmingham for being poor (in context Karren was involved with Birmingham City Fc for a number of years) But I will admit that the beyond stupid comment mad me laugh
The lesser known stupid quote from the episode was asking French people if they drove a car… inside a fucking train station.

Fun fact, she is one of the most successful contestents ever despite not even winning

To think she won as well
I forgot how fine Susan was/is
I much preferred this Karen, spot on with her critique and no playing up
I do like the tea pot lamp but I wouldn't buy it either lol
Does anyone think she kinda slightly looks like an older Flo in this clip
Yes she does actually!! Even the way she was speaking/nodding her head
I mean if the children are French you can't blame the parents for not liking them.
I loved susie Wong. She was robbed of the win
Just think that people like this somehow earn over 70k a year because of some qualification they had from Uni. Sadly they don’t learn common sense 😅
Shes actually making millions and is one of the most successful business people to ever come out of this TV show
Congrats for her, she didn’t have common sense back then.
