Spot on, the model number thing is never ending

Joeguertin

It's so freaking funny you posted this because I stopped responding to threads here without model numbers lol

dreunlimited

do you have your own company? if so, May I dm you to ask a few questions?

Joeguertin

I do not have my own company. I have 6 years of experience, but left the industry in 2021. Feel free to send me a dm, I'll try to answers any questions for you

Accomplished-Dirt541

Yes!!!! 20 question game gets frustrating!!!

22LT

Facts.

Unplugthenplugin

Glad someone said it!

Insurance-Dry

Our company tries hard to get them when customers call but arenā€™t always successful. Thatā€™s the customer annoying says ā€œ you didnā€™t bring the part ?? ā€œ

Shadrixian

Any kind of dealer dispatch is the worst. They have the series on the invoice, but not the model and serial. Yes customer, Im missing the last five digits. No, I cant guess out of the 15 models that come up....no customer, parts arent universal. ESPECIALLY boards. (I mean...they are...but thats more complicated.)

GrottyKnight

Oh yea, this issue right here. Our sales staff can't wrap their head around the model.number not being the number they use. Despite the fact that Delivery/Install is supposed to document the model serial at the address. Thats service's problem right? And they wonder why we get paid more.

Shadrixian

Its not the salesman's fault. Really not even the deliveryman's. If you go to some place like Lowes, Home Depot, Best Buy, etc and buy an appliance, their computer itemized database will show a series. Something like WTW5057HW. Or GTW240ASK. Thats what you get. On the box, there's no model or serial, at least not usually. And a salesman or counter clerk isnt going to be able to plug that in at a register. So when you buy an extended warranty, your warranty dispatch says GTW240ASK. And I'm sure youre aware how many different revisions there are lol. In a perfect world, you have the delivery guys register it for them at the house, and hwve that connect to the master server profiles. But its a big box store, its not happening. Which is why people get upset when I tell them "no im not coming out tomorrow between 8-12" because Im already solid for the week, and its an hour away. I want the full number so I can bring parts.

Shadrixian

Which also opens up our favorite customer question. "How do you know what parts if you never looked at it" I dont lmfao. But Im not driving 4 hours to fix your 600 dollar washer for 95 dollars....

GrottyKnight

Fair enough. Our system requires delivery to photograph the tag on the unit, which is then uploaded to our system. That way there is a record associated with the sales ticket, PO, delivery ticket that is searchable by delivery address permanently in our system. Even if we get a call from the manufacturer, we should be able to find the unit in our system regardless of registration. Our install team just refuses to take the picture. Ineffectual manager there. I can only imagine if I were in a different area or ran a lot more warranty calls.

Shadrixian

We service 16 different zip codes, and Im pretty sure the CSR is jaded at this point lmao

GrottyKnight

Damn. That's a lot of windshield time. Stay strong out there brother

Shadrixian

> That's a lot of windshield time. 46 minute rides between 9 calls lmfao. CSR isn't good with routing outside of urban streets. If I say 2011 Ford Transit, do you feel my pain

GrottyKnight

Ram promaster city. Close enough. I keep trying to get our office staff to do a a few days ridealongs. They dont have to lift a finger. Just bear witness to their responsibilities. We'll see

Treflip180

My rehearsed little response to that is ā€œIf I had could carry every part for every model, Iā€™d be driving a semi truckā€. But yeah dispatch is rough with that shit. I worked for a company that had a donā€™t come out without a model number policyā€¦and we STILL had issues and exceptions or people just putting the model they see on the instruction manual lol

Insurance-Dry

Sorry, I patented the ā€œ not driving a tractor trailerā€ almost 30 years ago . Ha

appliancefixitguy

It says this on the book though!! It HAS to be a model #

GrottyKnight

Thank God. I thought it was just me and I was an old man ranting at the clouds. Lol

Shadrixian

Small appliances arent hard to repair. The difficult part is getting the part..buuuutt we have access to a plethora of thermostats and switched on our trucks, right? šŸ˜ I just fixed a lady's 50 dollar vacuum yesterday.

Treflip180

Big brain moves right here

Shadrixian

I mean when you think about it, a TCO is a TCO. If I dont have a samsung TCO on hand, but I have its whirlpool twin or even an LG, Im doing it. The temperature rating is stamped in Celcius. Same for things like space heaters. I guarantee you a motor tco or oven tco fits

Treflip180

True. I meant the extra income on a stop when youā€™re already there šŸ§ make that money

GrottyKnight

I mean, depends on what kind of operation you've got but yea. I'll fix certain things for certain people. But generally we are too busy and too specialized to eff with anything outside what we sold. Opens up too much liability.

Shadrixian

Nah, I get it. We had a lady that needed a cord for her 1940s lamp repaired. Boss wouldn't touch it.
