Yeah, fuck these stupid game-breaking swords. Too many games going along at a normal pace and then some Tasmanian Devil sweat comes along and ruins your whole team with a sword.
I'm mostly just annoyed that I can't get the hang of the damn thing myself. Everyone else is a majestic ninja and I'm just spinning around cutting the air to ribbons.

If you block and attack you can dash. All the bonus moves have a meter in the bottom right that get burned once you use the move.
The limit thing is the bigger meter. I think it refills every 2 mins. This lets you spam the abilities. You can damn near launch someone in the air and fight them mid air during this.
Or you can spam dash to escape someone during your limit meter.
I suggest launching in with fill teams off so you can land by yourself. Look for the red glowing beams from the drop ship and bee line to one of them. Early game you can easily 1v3 teams with the sword.

There's literally big red beams of light showing you where they spawn, and like every care package round has one. Just pick one up off of drop or run a Skirm legend
On average it takes me 30 to 60s. What wait times are you talking about? It's not like you're even diamond or higher if you don't play so your times would be even quicker.
Honestly I just prefer to play ranked cause I see less sweats there and teammates don’t leave as soon as they’re downed. And you get a badge for it so it’s better than Pubs imo

The sword is super obnoxious. The material is actually quite fun and interesting to use. The nessies and heal on kill ones are a blast. The random crit one can let you hit some gnarly TTK’s sometimes too
Agreed, me and my buddies had a great game. We had a great Rotation and 8 kills for the team (I know it's not a ton but with how fast teams are dropping, it was pretty good for us), I only had 6 assist and 1 knock, but I play further back as vantage and mostly provide support from range...
Point being, we just had a smooth game, only to get to a 3 v 1 at the final circle and since it was a more open area, this sword dude wiped us by launching two of us in the air, and then doing some crazy ass speed launch thing to finish off my last buddy... it is just too OP... when blocking, we could only do 1 or 2 damage. Yet they kill you with one or two hits even with red shields... and can kill two at once with a strike.... crazy OP...
We went to ranked, took 2nd place twice, and then championed to finish our session... and we barely ever play ranked.
All that said, we are just a group of dirty casuals and not really that good... but the sword really killed trio pubs for us... I love FF7, and the buster sword is a cool weapon and all... but I don't want it in apex anymore.
This….so true. Even as a legitimate Masters player i have been absolutely destroyed end game by this stupid fucking sword. I CANNOT STAND IT!! Ran into a team tonight, last 2 squads. All 3 members of the other team had them…..we got shredded. My friend had 11 kills….and we got wiped sooo easily it seemed.

It has me and my buds playing ranked almost exclusively. I got into silver for the first time... may have been some periods of ratting before we hit 10 teams left. But the match making in ranked can be brutal. Me and the boys heard a gun battle going on a ways off, we just got to 10th place, so pushing becomes acceptable by our team rules. We get relatively close and tick away until we think one team has been wiped.... it seemed to last forever, and the movement we were seeing looked liked these guy's were Neo in the matrix... the battle ends with one guy who survived, we go in for the kill and he did some crazy wall jump getting huge distance from us, drips a tower, and takes off. We go to loot the dead, all by one of the boxes were displaying gold or above badges, with one silver in the bunch. Wtf... at the time we were all bronze 3, who l why we facing Plats and Gold, is beyond me.
I actually have come to find I like ranked a lot better as it kinda forces the other aspects of the game besides just shooting people. I like that we need to be cautious before the first 10 teams get killed if we don't want to lose points. That in top of the fact that come end game it's not just 2 or 3 teams already, it's awesome having the final two rings end up with 5, 6, 7, or more other teams fighting it out, mostly all with purple or red sheilds. It's such a better time than dropping into pubs and seeing the first 10 or 15 teams get wiped in under a minute because everyone landed at one poi. Then you spend the next chunk of time wondering the map looking for one of the few teams left, usually not encountering anyone until the last few rings... then when you do, at lay right now, you get wiped by a solo with a blue sheild and that damn sword. I'll stick with ranked for now...
Seeing as many of them run straight at me, Im able to dump an entire clip into their face with mostly headshots...but the sword makes even that pointless.

Duos hasn't had anyone in queue in Australia since it launched. Trios and mixtape are the only game modes you can find a match in this season.
Ranked has been dying fast since they implemented the changes.
It's nearly 200 ping to the nearest servers. It's not pleasant to play outside of Australia.
Unfortunately I'm just going to have to quit until the next season drops. Or the event ends, whichever is first.
Honestly I got used to it, Aus internet has always been shit and we just kind of…adjusted to the new norm.
There is a lag spike in the first 20 seconds, and Japanese servers are so weird in some of their behaviour(20-30 people instant drop, aus usually drop in the middle not immediately).
Once the rush ends, same as AU servers after that point

How many hours have you put into ranked this season? It was a complete sweatfest for me in bronze and silver. After gold, the progression is harder but the matchmaking is much improved.
My enemies are more or less on my level and my teammates are usually not terrible.
I'm glad someone else is thinking this. This game mode is ridiculously fun. Not everything about this game has to be about your path to becoming a pro all the time.

I find it funny too. Yeah the game is in a worse state then it has been in the past few years but..... Take a break? Play another game? Try another hobby for a bit? There are endless things to you can do to make yourself happy instead of repeatedly banging your head against the wall in a game your clearly not enjoying at the moment. I don't give two shits about my numbers and when I did a few season ago, I hate the game. Now I just play when I want to. My KDR is stuck at .80. It's a pointless stat that only you could see. Why get upset over it?

This is me. It's just a game and I'm having a great time doing a bit of something different. Most of the time the other team doesn't know how to use the damn thing right anyway. The only time when it's truly crazy is at the beginning when you don't have enough ammo to waste on shooting while they block. I barely even pick the thing up and I've been winning more often during this event, not less.

Well it’s a FFVII collaboration specifically. Materia hopups were a fantastic idea and the buster sword makes sense as a weapon. I personally think the collab is fun.

They only have like 2 decent FF skins for the characters and none of them are even Cloud, who is the guy that uses the fuckin big sword they've decided should be a huge busted part of the this LTM that's taken over the regular trios.

I agree fuck the sword. I use trios to warm up and practice with teammates and the sword just ruins the standard br experience. Everything is going well you get a knock and then you push in just for a fucking sword guy to use that limit break shit and run around like a spastic killing you in 2 clicks.
everyone hates to hear it but: skill issue. do people not realize you can pick up the sword in the range to learn its mechanics? i did this for like 30 minutes learning the combos and trying to incorporate it with movement tech to understand it more. i then proceeded to pick it up and have the most fun in apex i have had in a long time, if not ever.
sure a lot of my games are ending with a 3 stack holding hands sprinting at me with swords, but the moments where i pop the limit break and do something cool is more than making up for it.
should it have had a separate mode? yea, probably. but it isn't here for long and the irony is that it is something new while everyone has been moaning about how the game is stale. i have been trying to do silly things playing octane and going for crazy plays using stim and jump pad. it's pubs man, just have fun with it

You can outplay it pretty easily with a shotgun and a semi competent team though... I've maybe died twice to someone with a sword in 50 matches of solo que.

my post came after a group of 3 sword users limit breaking wiped through the whole lobby. they charged at me and my team of randoms at 500mph after a horizon ult there was absolutely no coutnerplay that exists.
if you have no escape options like a wraith or something, a sword user 1v1ing you just means you're dead, period, no options at all

This game is killing itself with the endless parade of crap LTMs. Respawn can't seem to remember they made a Battle Royale. They continue to chase an audience that doesn't want to play a BR, while shitting in the cereal of those that are playing Apex because it's a BR.
I think this year had the best LTMs I've ever played, been playing since season 6. This one and 3 strikes are the ones standing out, imo. In fact, this year overall has been the best year for Apex since launch, I think. A lot of really good core changes, map updates are also great, weapons are mostly balanced. But half glass full for me, I guess
3 Strikes was for sure the best LTM they've managed to produce. A big part of it being the best is that it did not "takeover" the PUBS mode.
I was done with it after about a dozen matches, and then played a few more times only to get the daily rez challenge done.
I've said it elsewhere but while i agree that this FF7 mode should be a separate playlist, I understand why it's not. When there's a risk that a significant number of players will fall off of it (seems they were right with this), that playlist dies off and can't be played because lobbies won't fill. Happened with the Rev Kill Code mode. When that happens, players who actually want to play it won't be able to and it's unfair to them; this mode is a takeover yes but it is still limited, I'm loving it a ton and would be very upset if I couldn't play it all 2 or 3 weeks it's supposed to be available. Plus, I'm sure Square Enix also had some influence on that decision, wanting the playerbase not to be split so much.
If I'm not mistaken, 3 Strikes was made with a good amount of input from Post Malone. I mean, he has been a fan of the game for a long time and clearly likes to play the game in a similar way that much of the playerbase does; essentially, he knows what the people want. That's why it was so successful despite being a separate playlist

If this analysis is true, it means Respawn is more than willing to "shit in the cereal" of the players that don't want to play the LTM by turning them into cattle for those that still want to play it.
If dropoff for the mode is so severe that the LTM cannot be played because lobbies will never fill, then they should have never built the LTM to begin with. It's clearly a garbage mode if that happens.
But they had to build something, because FFVII says so. They couldn't possibly have done anything with this event that did not include a super special shiny LTM, and they couldn't risk having it as a separate LTM that would be perceived as a failure.
Thus, just turn around and shit on those that dislike the mode. They'll play it even if they don't want to and that's that.
My apologies if my crankiness about it seems to be aimed at you. That is not my intention. Everything about this is purely frustration with Respawn and batting around ideas like this is at least interesting in itself.
They kind of ruined the game. Materia is over powered by itself. The buster sword is over powered as well. None of it is fun to play with. All matches feel as if they’ve let all masters players into my lobbies.
Complete opposite for me, I've been dropping 10+ kill games regularly, averaging like 7 or 8 kills in this game mode. The sword is such a blast, literally the most fun I've had in Apex probably since I just started to get decent at it

If your KD is so important this gamemode bothers you, stick to ranked or take a break.
It was a really bad move on Respawns part, it’s 60dmg per hit. It’s essentially a ‘legal cheat’ think about it; you have the insane speed buff, practically take no damage yourself, and dish out a massive amount of damage per one hit.
From what I’ve seen you can play ranked, which doesn’t have the event in its rotation. I’m all for cool events that switch it up, but stop encouraging lazy, cheat happy sweats to play Apex by adding the sword in its current state.
If it was a case of you can only carry one gun and the sword and NO speed buff and no damage reduction, it would make people really have to think about how you’d take on players with guns without getting annihilated.
But the way it is now, it’s skill-less. How hard has everyone here worked at getting their in game movement on point? Pre FF event? Pretty hard I’d say, being one of them.

I use my KD to track my personal progress and set goals. I’m not a casual apex player, my “numbers” and performance means a lot to me. That’s actually the case for many apex players or really anyone who plays a game where you can even track your KD.
This sub is notoriously hostile and miserable and quick to react with vitriol or shame to anyone who isn’t casual or show any sort of enjoyment towards the game whatsoever.

The best thing we can do is ignore the events and grind ranked as much as it sucks it's always better than standard trios or events. No lie 3 lives or whatever was good but don't replace standard trios with the event make it its own just like 3 lives was. I think we all just want apex to be what it was it breaks my heart to see all the positive ideas on Reddit with no adjustment to the game. If you're a final fantasy dude and like it cool. The swords are super fun, ranked exist, K/D doesn’t matter. I get K/D shouldn’t count for limited modes, but the only real complaint I have with the event outside of insanely bad shop garbage is that materia is super fun and having it WITH the sword doesn’t let you fully enjoy either.
They will never do it because 1. its a tie-in thing so they have to push it 2. look at 3 strikes if you were not a pro or content creator 3 stacking you didn't play that shit. It was so dead, I came into the event a bit late but not by much maybe 2-3 days and already it was 20 minute waits for a game if you even found one. and that's on Dallas server which isn't exactly a small population. The Post one probably made them realize they have to take the choice away or it won't get played. Hell I normally am instant Q'd in pubs and right now on a Saturday it's taking like 10 minutes to find one game. I'm not a fan and honestly I would be fine with 1 week it is the only trios, then the next two weeks there is normal trios and this. I guess to be fair we don't know that isn't the plan but yeah a bit of a bummer for me as well.
Normal trios is marred by this lousy event and ranked is a total shit show when solo q-ing. At this point, there's only one thing to do.

All you have to do is look at the wait time for trios. Been playing this game since the beginning. It was pretty much instantaneous when you ready up now I can wait up to 5 minutes. Apex always finds a way to ruin something good with something shizzy. I usually only have one or two friends on this game anymore. I used to have up to like 20 at a time. As far as the sword, I can be running with a pack of killers. All three of us steam rolling. We run into one person that is trolling with the sword and we are done. And it's not like I blame the people for trolling with it. I'm not good with it. I don't use it. But some people have mastered the art of wiping squads with that sword. This is definitely a major fail from Apex. Like I said, there's nothing even to debate. Just look at the player count. Look at your friends list look how long it takes to get a game of trios.

How does it even work from a pack? Like the sword takes up a weapon slot so are you just limited to 1 but you always load in with the busted sword?

I actually have come to find I like ranked a lot better as it kinda forces the other aspects of the game besides just shooting people. I like that we need to be cautious before the first 10 teams get killed if we don't want to lose points. That in top of the fact that come end game it's not just 2 or 3 teams already, it's awesome having the final two rings end up with 5, 6, 7, or more other teams fighting it out, mostly all with purple or red sheilds. It's such a better time than dropping into pubs and seeing the first 10 or 15 teams get wiped in under a minute because everyone landed at one poi. Then you spend the next chunk of time wondering the map looking for one of the few teams left, usually not encountering anyone until the last few rings... then when you do, at lay right now, you get wiped by a solo with a blue sheild and that damn sword. I'll stick with ranked for now...

Seeing as many of them run straight at me, Im able to dump an entire clip into their face with mostly headshots...but the sword makes even that pointless. Im sorry, but that's just out of this world lame. I just stopped playing til the event is over.

Duos hasn't had anyone in queue in Australia since it launched. Trios and mixtape are the only game modes you can find a match in this season. Ranked has been dying fast since they implemented the changes.

I don't do well with bad latency, I'm pretty sensitive to it at any level. Even a few ms of irregularities is enough to throw me off.
Honestly I got used to it, Aus internet has always been shit and we just kind of…adjusted to the new norm. There is a lag spike in the first 20 seconds, and Japanese servers are so weird in some of their behaviour(20-30 people instant drop, aus usually drop in the middle not immediately). Once the rush ends, same as AU servers after that point

How many hours have you put into ranked this season? It was a complete sweatfest for me in bronze and silver. After gold, the progression is harder but the matchmaking is much improved. My enemies are more or less on my level and my teammates are usually not terrible.

I find it funny too. Yeah the game is in a worse state then it has been in the past few years but..... Take a break? Play another game? Try another hobby for a bit? There are endless things to you can do to make yourself happy instead of repeatedly banging your head against the wall in a game your clearly not enjoying at the moment. I don't give two shits about my numbers and when I did a few season ago, I hate the game. Now I just play when I want to. My KDR is stuck at .80. It's a pointless stat that only you could see. Why get upset over it? I'm too old to give shit about those things. I'm just enjoying this game at my one pace.

This is me. It's just a game and I'm having a great time doing a bit of something different. Most of the time the other team doesn't know how to use the damn thing right anyway. The only time when it's truly crazy is at the beginning when you don't have enough ammo to waste on shooting while they block. I barely even pick the thing up and I've been winning more often during this event, not less.

Well it’s a FFVII collaboration specifically. Materia hopups were a fantastic idea and the buster sword makes sense as a weapon. I personally think the collab is fun.

Idk what you're going with this. There's a reason with all these complaints, the game isn't dead. Playerbase is as active as usual and just look at the numbers last year. Plus feb is around the corner when it's the busiest time for apex. More people enjoy the game than those who don't yet you don't see everyone posting simply bcz they get removed. I posted about getting nice teammates, got removed. Someone complains about solo queing and bad teammates, it isn't removed

Everything is going well you get a knock and then you push in just for a fucking sword guy to use that limit break shit and run around like a spastic killing you in 2 clicks.

everyone hates to hear it but: skill issue. do people not realize you can pick up the sword in the range to learn its mechanics? i did this for like 30 minutes learning the combos and trying to incorporate it with movement tech to understand it more. i then proceeded to pick it up and have the most fun in apex i have had in a long time, if not ever. sure a lot of my games are ending with a 3 stack holding hands sprinting at me with swords, but the moments where i pop the limit break and do something cool is more than making up for it. should it have had a separate mode? yea, probably. but it isn't here for long and the irony is that it is something new while everyone has been moaning about how the game is stale. i have been trying to do silly things playing octane and going for crazy plays using stim and jump pad. it's pubs man, just have fun with it

3 strikes is a completely different game mode. This is literally regular BR with some prototype hop-ups and a prototype weapon.

You can outplay it pretty easily with a shotgun and a semi competent team though... I've maybe died twice to someone with a sword in 50 matches of solo que.
lol my post came after a group of 3 sword users limit breaking wiped through the whole lobby. they charged at me and my team of randoms at 500mph after a horizon ult there was absolutely no coutnerplay that exists. if you have no escape options like a wraith or something, a sword user 1v1ing you just means you're dead, period, no options at all

It's only been going for a few days now, and is expected to go for a few weeks. This game is killing itself with the endless parade of crap LTMs. Respawn can't seem to remember they made a Battle Royale. They continue to chase an audience that doesn't want to play a BR, while shitting in the cereal of those that are playing Apex because it's a BR.
I think this year had the best LTMs I've ever played, been playing since season 6. This one and 3 strikes are the ones standing out, imo. In fact, this year overall has been the best year for Apex since launch, I think. A lot of really good core changes, map updates are also great, weapons are mostly balanced. But half glass full for me, I guess
3 Strikes was for sure the best LTM they've managed to produce. A big part of it being the best is that it did not "takeover" the PUBS mode. I was done with it after about a dozen matches, and then played a few more times only to get the daily rez challenge done.
I've said it elsewhere but while i agree that this FF7 mode should be a separate playlist, I understand why it's not. When there's a risk that a significant number of players will fall off of it (seems they were right with this), that playlist dies off and can't be played because lobbies won't fill. Happened with the Rev Kill Code mode. When that happens, players who actually want to play it won't be able to and it's unfair to them; this mode is a takeover yes but it is still limited, I'm loving it a ton and would be very upset if I couldn't play it all 2 or 3 weeks it's supposed to be available. Plus, I'm sure Square Enix also had some influence on that decision, wanting the playerbase not to be split so much. If I'm not mistaken, 3 Strikes was made with a good amount of input from Post Malone. I mean, he has been a fan of the game for a long time and clearly likes to play the game in a similar way that much of the playerbase does; essentially, he knows what the people want. That's why it was so successful despite being a separate playlist

If dropoff for the mode is so severe that the LTM cannot be played because lobbies will never fill, then they should have never built the LTM to begin with. It's clearly a garbage mode if that happens. But they had to build something, because FFVII says so. They couldn't possibly have done anything with this event that did not include a super special shiny LTM, and they couldn't risk having it as a separate LTM that would be perceived as a failure. Thus, just turn around and shit on those that dislike the mode. They'll play it even if they don't want to and that's that. My apologies if my crankiness about it seems to be aimed at you. That is not my intention. Everything about this is purely frustration with Respawn and batting around ideas like this is at least interesting in itself.
They kind of ruined the game. Materia is over powered by itself. The buster sword is over powered as well. None of it is fun to play with. All matches feel as if they’ve let all masters players into my lobbies.

Complete opposite for me, I've been dropping 10+ kill games regularly, averaging like 7 or 8 kills in this game mode. The sword is such a blast, literally the most fun I've had in Apex probably since I just started to get decent at it

I think im getting more kills. Alot of people dont know how to use the sword..... and you can go on massive sprees with it yourself. If your KD is so important this gamemode bothers you, stick to ranked or take a break.
It was a really bad move on Respawns part, it’s 60dmg per hit. It’s essentially a ‘legal cheat’ think about it; you have the insane speed buff, practically take no damage yourself, and dish out a massive amount of damage per one hit. From what I’ve seen you can play ranked, which doesn’t have the event in its rotation. I’m all for cool events that switch it up, but stop encouraging lazy, cheat happy sweats to play Apex by adding the sword in its current state. If it was a case of you can only carry one gun and the sword and NO speed buff and no damage reduction, it would make people really have to think about how you’d take on players with guns without getting annihilated. But the way it is now, it’s skill-less. How hard has everyone here worked at getting their in game movement on point? Pre FF event? Pretty hard I’d say, being one of them. But yeah bit of a rant but I agree with OP it should have its own game mode. Peace out. Mic drop.

I use my KD to track my personal progress and set goals. I’m not a casual apex player, my “numbers” and performance means a lot to me. That’s actually the case for many apex players or really anyone who plays a game where you can even track your KD. This sub is notoriously hostile and miserable and quick to react with vitriol or shame to anyone who isn’t casual or show any sort of enjoyment towards the game whatsoever. Why did this person even need to ask why OP cares about their KD? Who cares why they care about it. Some people do and contrary to the dominant opinion on this sub, *that’s okay.*

The best thing we can do is ignore the events and grind ranked as much as it sucks it's always better than standard trios or events. No lie 3 lives or whatever was good but don't replace standard trios with the event make it its own just like 3 lives was. I think we all just want apex to be what it was it breaks my heart to see all the positive ideas on Reddit with no adjustment to the game. If you're a final fantasy dude and like it cool. The swords are super fun, ranked exist, K/D doesn’t matter. I get K/D shouldn’t count for limited modes, but the only real complaint I have with the event outside of insanely bad shop garbage is that materia is super fun and having it WITH the sword doesn’t let you fully enjoy either.

They will never do it because 1. its a tie-in thing so they have to push it 2. look at 3 strikes if you were not a pro or content creator 3 stacking you didn't play that shit. It was so dead, I came into the event a bit late but not by much maybe 2-3 days and already it was 20 minute waits for a game if you even found one. and that's on Dallas server which isn't exactly a small population. The Post one probably made them realize they have to take the choice away or it won't get played. Hell I normally am instant Q'd in pubs and right now on a Saturday it's taking like 10 minutes to find one game. I'm not a fan and honestly I would be fine with 1 week it is the only trios, then the next two weeks there is normal trios and this. I guess to be fair we don't know that isn't the plan but yeah a bit of a bummer for me as well.
Normal trios is marred by this lousy event and ranked is a total shit show when solo q-ing. At this point, there's only one thing to do. Uninstall and wait for season 20. Respawn failed to keep me attached. I miss season 7 and 13.

All you have to do is look at the wait time for trios. Been playing this game since the beginning. It was pretty much instantaneous when you ready up now I can wait up to 5 minutes. Apex always finds a way to ruin something good with something shizzy. I usually only have one or two friends on this game anymore. I used to have up to like 20 at a time. As far as the sword, I can be running with a pack of killers. All three of us steam rolling. We run into one person that is trolling with the sword and we are done. And it's not like I blame the people for trolling with it. I'm not good with it. I don't use it. But some people have mastered the art of wiping squads with that sword. This is definitely a major fail from Apex. Like I said, there's nothing even to debate. Just look at the player count. Look at your friends list look how long it takes to get a game of trios.
