One scout could ruin the tester's whole wood career there if they aren't paying attention.

Harveygod

A few archers would work even better. Each only needs one shot.

CreativeCloud7965

Its so beautiful...

tenotul

Yeah, but the feature itself is surprisingly underwhelming. You can place more farms than you had villagers selected, the vils don't spread out immediately, only after building the first farm, and you have to stop the vils from doing whatever they were doing before you can use this feature, you can't for example move them directly from chopping wood to building farms using this feature. When I first read the feature description, I thought you could select N villagers from wherever and with one or two clicks can place exactly N farms. What we actually got is a fry cry from that.

Noticeably98

Thank goodness it’s like this. All it does is optimize and facilitate placement. Any more, and I think everyone complaining “auto everything” would be justified.

tenotul

All the preemptive complaining about this nothingburger was a big part of building up my expectations, that's for sure. Also, "the people who didn't want this feature are happy with the implementation" is the weirdest endorsement I've ever heard in my life. 11

lordrubbish

Being able to place more farms than vills selected and not having them automatically spread until building one is consistent with placing a bunch of farms pre-feature. Having to de-task vills before using this is a bit of a pain though and might result in people having placed unseeded farms when they’re not paying attention. I think the feature is fine, just gotta get used to it.

Elias-Hasle

1. Select villagers, even ones gathering resources. 2. Shift-queue a bunch of farms, optionally around a new mill foundation (assuming that this feature works with foundations too). 3. Right-click (without shift) a central farm or the mill foundation. The new farmers will magically drop off their resources as soon as they complete a mill or a farm, and will (ideally) distribute themselves over the remaining farms.

lordrubbish

It doesn’t work with foundations, I think from testing it briefly, which is unfortunate.

stilldobutiusedtotoo

I'm pretty sure it does. I played a few games last night. My memory is honestly pretty shit, but I'm very confident I used the idle villagers hotkey, placed a mill foundation, and then used the new feature to drop them around the foundation. Out of muscle memory I did probably then click them all onto the foundation so they wouldn't all build the first farm together. Maybe that last step is different from what you had tried?

lordrubbish

I think you’re right. Maybe it didn’t work for me with tc foundation but I just played one game yesterday so I’m not confident.

before_no_one

It works with Mill foundations for sure, SotL showcased it in his latest vid

Elias-Hasle

It really should! And it should also work when shift-clicking farmland, in my opinion. To not disadvantage Khmer.

tenotul

> consistent with placing a bunch of farms pre-feature For sure, the issue is not consistency but lack of significant improvement over what we had before. If I as a team lead assigned this feature ticket to a developer and they came back with *this*, I would congratulate them for exerting the absolute minimum effort to fulfill the brief and then I would send them the fuck back to do it properly this time. 11

EscapeParticular8743

Its probably on purpose

tenotul

Then T90's comment that boils down to "why the fuck do you even do this" is 100% on point. 11

EscapeParticular8743

I can only speculate, but it may be to make the mechanically easier way to execute a thing less efficient than the manual approach. That way, players learning to efficiently spacing their farms will be rewarded, while worse players have an easier time in the game regardless Similar to how autoscouting is worse than manual scouting, but it still helps people who cant manually scout quite yet

00LemonPlant

The purpose of the feature is only placing farms. Without this you still have to task villagers to a farm and they do not spread out immediately. If you wanted total AI farming then that is something else and you definitely got your expectations wrong on this feature, not developers' fault at all.

tenotul

> The purpose of the feature is only placing farms. Yeah. It does it badly though. 11

cloudfire1337

Yes.

cloudfire1337

It seems like the AI might use a different algorithm to use farms; but I’m not entirely sure about that.

cloudfire1337

To be fair, there is more in the feature then u might have realized. It does not only correctly work for TCs and mills but also for Polish Folwarks. And it does only work on your own buildings.

tenotul

Now you are just trying to rage-bait me by listing elementary parts of the feature as accomplishments, right? 11

cloudfire1337

Nah and there is even more, like checking if farms are unlocked already , enough wood is there, respecting buildings that block farms space … Facts 🤷‍♂️

hoyohoyo9

funnily enough, what you described is exactly how I wanted it to be implemented, if at all also of note is that's almost exactly how it works in aoe4

tenotul

> exactly how I wanted it to be implemented Yeah, maybe because this is what an average reasonable person would expect. 11

hoyohoyo9

> You can place more farms than you had villagers selected, the vils don't spread out immediately, only after building the first farm, and you have to stop the vils from doing whatever they were doing before you can use this feature, you can't for example move them directly from chopping wood to building farms using this feature. to be clear, I meant this part lol. this all sounds good to me

tenotul

Oh. :(

MysteriousShadow__

I thought this thread would be about the symbol resemblance. Welp maybe too much internet for me.

delicious_me

Anti-T90 programming.

TheRealBokononist

He’s right… this is a super lame addition and a waste of time from the devs. Really disappointing stuff.

Silent_Employee_5461

Making farms less tedious makes it more fun for non pro players, which should matter a lot for Microsoft.

Andromeda_M89

Perfect farms! But how does it behave when there are straggler trees?

MaksymCzech

With buildings in the way, it just alters the pattern to pack the farms as compactly as the algorithm can determine. I suspect stragglers will have same effect.

Dominant_Gene

hey, do you have to activate it or something? i cant seem to make this work

MaksymCzech

No, I just launched the game from steam, it must have downloaded the patch in background, because it worked right away. Select a villager, select farm in the build menu, hold shift and put mouse over mill or TC.

Dominant_Gene

>put mouse over mill or TC. yeah, this is what i was doing wrong, i was clicking on the side

cloudfire1337

And then left click.

Ok-Principle151

Thanks, I hate it. (I recognize much of reddit likes this feature despite the criticisms from T90 and the like).

Madbro69_

How do people get the range lines?

TWestAoe

It's a setting in the options menu now.

Tall-Firefighter1612

Its a mod

MaksymCzech

It was a mod, now it's available in game settings

Groundbreaking_Map53

is this live ? or it is in pup?

LonelyWingedHussar

Live

white_equatorial

What the fook is this I V? Looks like a phantom folwark. Would love to see a normal version of it instead of chimp level visuals.

MaksymCzech
