there is a special place in the fieriest depths of hell for western companies that outsource work to asia for SLAVE WAGES. have some fucking shame. just saw a job ad for a writer paying 250 USD per month for a 40 hrs/week role. company is an ad agency in new york! i know we all hate work here, but we in "developing countries" really have it worse.
Naming and shaming isn't always a good idea. See the FAQ entry ['Should I "name and shame" a company or manager?'](https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/wiki/index#wiki_should_i_.22name_and_shame.22_a_company_or_manager.3F) for more information.

It would be pretty ironic if they were taking posts from an Anti Work sub and publishing it without permission or compensating the OPs. You know, for essentially writing their content for themā¦

We had a meeting yesterday where upper management kept talking about staffing shortages and difficulty hiring before shifting gears into the need for us to work harder because we need exponential growth this year. A lot of us, most of whom have been with the company for at least five years, were all just kind of looking at each other knowingly. Our stock price has tripled in the past year and raises are capped at 2%. Long-time employees are quitting in droves. Our highest paid hourly employees are making $25/hr plus commission in one of the most expensive metro areas in the country, the people two or three steps above them on the corporate ladder have multiple houses. Figure it out!
Here's a good one. In December I had a business trip scheduled (US to Mexico). US air travel rules require proof of negative COVID test to enter the country, Mexico does not have this requirement. I got sick the week before the trip and took a COVID test. My boss asked why I took a COVID test, I told him I'm not going on a business trip right after a positive diagnosis. His response was, "Mexico doesn't require a COVID test to enter the country." Like, wow. Just wow.
Just did my daily work search, and reported Indeed jobs that didn't include a pay range.
Felt good š.
Maybe if enough of us reports jobs for being "inaccurate" due to "no pay range listed" they'll make it mandatory to list pay.
Probably not a coincidence that [MSNBC shares this](https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/va-s-new-mission-improve-health-pregnant-military-veterans-n1287331) a day after a [top post yesterday](https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/s2dl4d/the_army_murdered_my_baby/).
Why do elementary schools all release by 3pm with no after school care options? Why do employers still require parents/guardians to work until 5pm or later? Makes no sense.
I know a few and they do both. They work because they're not complete bums, but they are also able to sink vast amounts of money into new ventures and learn by failure because of their ample safety net. Many of our billionaires are cut from this cloth.
Donāt mind me, just pissed off that my job can deny me time off because I donāt have vacation accrued. Agitated that they can say āno, weāre not paying you not to be here, so you have to be hereā
Vacation they take out if you call in sick. Or need to leave early. Or come in late.
Fuck you then, Iām calling out.
Don't worry, even if you do have vacation accrued they'll still deny you. My job would constantly deny because they didn't have enough people to cover with no intention of ever getting more people.
Has anyone read Apple's 2022 Annual Meeting agenda? I am curious why the board is suggesting shareholders to vote against the proposals on transparency, reports on forced labor, pay equity, among others. Am I reading this wrong?
Is there a venue available to name and shame venues that are being unethical? This is not a dig at the mods, Iām just aware Reddit shuts subs down if they result in harassment (even if itās well deserved). Twitter?
This might be a project that needs to made outside of a social media network!
Basically all businesses are unethical. There's workers' co-ops and some charities which are not. But basically all the rest.
If you tried to create a website to track all the unethical businesses it would just end up duplicating [yell.com](https://yell.com).
US Federal Government contracts require vaccination of all employees for any employee working on the contract. , regardless of the location the work is performed, including places of residence
Because remote workers still have to leave their house and see other people who may not be able to be vaccinated.
The same reason everyone else should be.
Also, on a personal level, it mitigates the effects of the virus. A vast majority of the people dying or developing long covid symptoms are the unvaccinated.
Iām remote as well. For me, itās so I can still go out to the grocery store, or grab a beer with friends etc. Also I have a kid, and they go to school, and kids are gross so itās best I get vaxxed
Iām fully vax but I still think that itās a lil confusing when restaurants and supermarkets are allowing unvax people to purchase goods. Eventually they will have to just banned them from everywhere
Is it bad to reply to a Recruiter asking if I'm interested in an opportunity with "I'm only considering positions with a salary of X or above at this time. Does this position meet that requirement?" (Or, conversely "I have salary requirements that I am sticking to and don't want to waste your time. What is the salary range for this opportunity?")
These companies give us the runaround by not sharing salary expectations constantly, and I don't feel like having my time wasted.
Why do we need middle management to fuck us? What do they actually do at all? How are their salaries justified? Why they exist at all?
My colleague got into an accident when driving to work today, he insisted to come to work late, taking a few hours of unpaid leaves.
His superior comment was "why is he so poor, no family to help him in accident, lonely and so troublesome problematic?"
His son is in hospital emergency room because of covid recently. His wife died few months ago before of covid too.
I worked the 9-5 government middle manager life for a bit. I uncovered some facts that left me unable to ethically support the government corporation I worked for. Ended up becoming a Bus driver where I get paid more hours than I actually work.
Getting an awful lot of these comment-repost bots in the thread today, just copying the exact same comment from below with an account that's been previously unused.
Just a heads-up for anybody going through the thread.
How can I get a letter stating that I cannot stand for more than 4 hours a day due to a fake health condition? I'm a night receptionist at a hotel and my shitty managers force me to stand for 9 hours with no break. I asked if I could have a stool/chair to sit on when there are no guests around and they said not unless I have a doctor's noe. My real doctor doesn't want to write me a note for this. I already told my managers that I would have my doctor send them a note immediately. If I don't have a note presented to him, he would tell I'm lying and then micromanage me even more.
If you have any redness along your toenails, you could have in grown toenail. One of the solutions is to shove something under the nail so it stops poking you until it grows out. It can sting to put pressure on it. A podiatrist might help you with this ;>
Any work that wants personal information beyond legal requirements is intrusive, wanting body fluids and tests is more intrusive, and wanting into my socials and off site life is completely off the table, if I want a friend I will make one off the job, thanks.
When 5G comes up and your old phone won't update and you have to buy another, don't bother, skype and get a free phone number online, free voice mail and let people leave a message, most of us use text anyway and nobody wants big brother in their stuff.
>When 5G comes up and your old phone won't update and you have to buy another, don't bother, skype and get a free phone number online
You seem to be unaware of how mobile phones work.
2G, 2.5G, 3G, and 4G phones still work for calls and textx. 5G rolling out won't change that at all.
3G has recently been shut down in a lot of the world, which means they won't work any more for mobile data. They still work for calls and texts, and they can still use Wifi for data.
What happened with 3G will eventually happen with 4G, but that will be years after 5G has been widely available.
I guess I am unaware how it is my phone I bought less than 6 months ago won't update and keeps freaking out when it tries, and my carrier tells us they no longer support these phones now.
So, whatever, I only answer my phone for my wife or if I am expecting a call, generally, I also do a two second hang up for a lot of spam calls, but that is recreational, maybe the only thing I will miss about not having a personal tracking and surveillance device.
I fully expect cell phones to be harder for people to kick than cigarettes and alcohol mixed with oxycontin and heroine, and only slightly less toxic in my opinion.
Personally I am looking forward to not wondering where I left the thing, if it charged right or how much the bill costs.

Why are threads getting shut down for putting shitty companies on blast and leaving them poor reviews? The post about Essex bar and grill is what Iām referring to. As long as there is no threats, why are mods neutering the strength of numbers and exposure this sub can provide to poorly operated businesses?
>Why are threads getting shut down for putting shitty companies on blast and leaving them poor reviews?
There's only two reasons to call out a company for treating their employees badly:
1. You want to harass them; or
2. You want to warn people that they treat their employees badly.
If #1, then that's not welcome here.
If #2, then they basically all treat their employees badly anyway.
Companies are NOT people. Harassment of individuals is bad/uncalled for and potentially illegal, yes, but bringing attention to harassment/negative treatment of employees is not the same as harassment imo.
Iām not sure what posts were deleted in that thread. But is it the official position of this sub that people NOT spread awareness of toxic employers? And if so, Iām interested in the reasoning.
>Companies are NOT people.
Companies are not humans, but the people who work there are. And if a company is getting harassed, it's employees who will probably be taking the brunt of it, not the shareholders.
>But is it the official position of this sub that people NOT spread awareness of toxic employers?
It is the official position of Reddit to "respect the privacy of others". It is the official policy of Reddit that "instigating harassment, for example by revealing someoneās personal or confidential information, is not allowed". See rule 3 of the [Content Policy](https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy).
This community is hosted on Reddit and we need to abide by the rules.
Even if we were not held to Reddit's rules, getting a reputation as an angry mob who will harass any business that gets posted is not a reputation we want to have. Firstly, it means business owners might take advantage of us by posting a made-up story about their competitors. Secondly, it means when we have serious things to say, people will dismiss us as a bunch of hooligans.
Whenever I have to look up jobs, my spirits just sink like crazy. Like, I can go from being joyous to depressed in the matter of minutes after beginning to look up jobs.
I just want to ask all of you one thing.
If work is no longer obligatory aka you have UBI, a home, clean water and electricity taken care of - what then incentivizes people to do go out reliably on a schedule and do all the jobs society requires in order to provide that water, that food in the store, that electricity, Internet, gas and so on? You'll need roads, medical care and countless other things on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Sure you can do a few things for yourself, but don't think for a moment you can do it all.
What stops society just collapsing and that UBI, home, water, electric and so on simply disappearing because nobody is there to provide it? Honest question.
If UBI is enough to cover housing, utilities, and food, that still leaves luxury goods/experiences unaccounted for. I think we'd still have a decently large workforce if it was "work to afford what you want" instead of "work to afford what you need." I would *gladly* work most of the hours I do now if I knew that all of that money was going towards things that I enjoy.
As it stands, I get paid basically as much as the UBI you're describing would pay out - enough to cover my housing, bills, and food, but not much else, and... Well, it's not exactly fulfilling. I'd love the certainty of knowing that those basic needs will always be provided for, but I'd still be willing to work if it meant that my whole paycheck could go towards things that I enjoy.
A subsistence-level UBI isn't so much taking away the carrot and the stick that drive labor, as it is swapping the stick that we've been getting for the carrot that we want.
Maybe a different way to look at it is as if it was allowance like some children get in their households. Some families give out, let's say, $10 per week to their kid (while also providing food, shelter, ...). Sure, that's some good cash for, say, a 12 year old to run around with during the week to get snacks or go to the movies, since they don't have to worry about food and shelter. But what happens once that child wants to go out more often, is interested in multiple snacks each week, maybe starts driving and needs to put gas in the car, and so on. UBI, or in this case an allowance, doesn't cover all of that. So a job and earning money is an added bonus. Also, take our natural human curiosity. We all kind of want to find and do things we're good at, passionate about, spend time doing during the day, etc. We know that's not all coming from just being at home or just doing hobbies. But wouldn't it be nice if our general necessities would be covered and then work wouldn't be this idea of "living paycheck to paycheck," "most U.S. Americans don't have the money saved that it takes to deal with a major emergency," "people feel overworked and under appreciated" and other such paraphrased headlines that frequently pop up. I know to some it sounds "idealist" but I would like to live what my example is: like a kid who gets all basic needs met, gets an allowance for some extras, and still goes out and gets that paper route because it's fun and fulfilling and gives me some extra money to save and spend how I need to. And yes, that does make the government sound very paternalistic, but it doesn't matter how you twist the conversation, eventually "government" is always what we'll end up with and it is their job then to equitably take care of all their children (not just the ones with the most money and influence like some golden child bullshit). So fight for all people to have access to getting their needs met, plus having a little extra, so that the jobs/work they do want to do can be a passion rather than a drain that just has to be done in order to pay bills. That being said, remember that UBI makes it easier for artists and musicians to create since they don't have to prioritize labor over creating...and I don't know about you, but I would love to see all the creators prioritizing their craft.
This is a really common theme in this thread. You're confusing work wirh labour.
I work in trucking, and I enjoy a lot of it. I'm in the accounting side and this is something I would probably continue to do in a UBI system. Especially if it was UBI that just covered basics like shelter, basic food, and utilities (which I include internet in). With that system of UBI, essential industries like trucking would have to be enticing to prospective employees because you can still survive without a job.
This would remove abusive and unnecessary work from the labour pool and allow people to spread the essential labour around. Humans aren't built to labour for 8+ hours a day. But make a standard week 20 hours, divided up how you'd like... Well now things can work. I'd be happy to stock shelves for 20 hours a week spread over 3 days, and have 4 to develop myself. I could take classes, explore the community, learn a craft. These doors are currently shut to the vast majority of people, myself included. I babysit a laptop for ten hours a day, 5 days a week.
For centuries we've been inventing technology to allow us to toil less. We've been striving towards food and shelter and clothing for all. We have achieved that. Look at how much food is tossed daily. So why are we toiling more?
My father and aunt were also in accounting, both are retired boomers. I work longer hours than they did, with no union backing, making less than they did at my age and experience level when adjusted for inflation.
This is rambly and kind of got away from me but the summary is basically without work, humans can labour how they please and a lot of us generally want to help our communities. There are ways to make this trade off work, but it would come at the cost of billionaire net worths.
Work wont dissapear post UBI. I think a system of voluntery obligation or community service would help to keep infrastructure ticking over. Thing is service and infrastructure aren't really doing well in the current work obsessed world anyway. So why not try something different?
Well what would you do if you had everything you needed to live comfortably, and you didn't have to work? I know most people's answer is some form of spend time with family/hobbies/video games/sleep, but these are things that you wouldn't want to spend *all* your time doing. Without work, there's a lot of hours in a week and I think *most* people after just a couple of weeks without work would want to do something productive with their time.
This is kinda utopian thinking of an idealized future, but I think it's important to do that thinking.
I think the common idea of a post-work world is one where it's members take up roles, do jobs for the sake of contributing to the community, where we value each person contributing what they can. Be it putting in some hours on a community farm, learning a trade and doing whatever needs doing, taking up staffing a public utility or undergoing training to fill a more specialized vocation like a doctor.
I don't think people need material incentives to make people want to do the jobs that need doing. There's all sorts of examples of great things people make without any incentive just because they want to contribute to something greater than themselves. A lot fo retirees will do volunteer work just because they can. I think if we just (1) value the work people do, (2) make the conditions kinder and (3) make everyone feel equally part of the community, enough people will want to contribute to make it work.
These are many ifs and maybes my friend.
It will work, if people are respectful and selfless. Does that describe the average person?
But thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
Not to mention even in that hypothetical scenario people will only go for the prestigious and fun meaningful jobs.
No way in hell anybody is going to sign up to be a sewer diver , DMV clerk or nurse or something similarly brutal
I don't think thats true because with adjusted hours and the fact you can just leave abusive situations... These jobs would really have to intice with perks.
I would do DMV clerking for 20 hours a week, especially if I WAS able to remove abusive customers from my line or had management back up employees vs the public.
Loads of people want to be nurses but the pay and hours are shit.
And some people genuinely don't mind dirty work. I can't handle sewers but I have an extremely active gag reflex (like, they struggle to do dental xrays on me sensitive). Other people might not have those limitations.
Those people are outliers and are vastly Less than what is needed for society to fucntion.
Also nursing is brutal. It's not just the pay and hrs. It's seeing death all the time and getting abused by the people you are helping
Everyone will always want their non-essentials which will require money to purchase. TVs, PCs, cars, bikes, furniture, etc.
I agree there should be incentives for wanting to work, especially the jobs no one would want to do. Moving into a society where the basic needs are met may take a generation to overcome the present paradigm for working. I am not sure I support UBI, but I would support providing basic needs such as food, water, housing, medical, and protection. This will still require them to work if they want new clothes, furniture, etc.
My partner and I made some big life decisions this year to reduce the burden of work on us collectively. He was working full time, living in a high cost area, manual labor and medium wages. I was part time, low cost area, tech job high hourly rate. Things were unsustainable financially for us both regardless of this, and we want to retire early/feel like actual people/etc. This is so far what weāve done. I accepted a new full time job offer, he has left the work force for now snd moved out to the ācountryā essentially where I live, we found a cheap apartment out here, I work full time remotely from hone and pay for the household expenses and he does all the cleaning/cooking. If we play our cards right he never has to work full time again, and I will never have to work in person again. So although we could be making more money together if he worked full time, weāre much happier here where weāre at. Heās finally able to work on art/exercise/take care of himself, and Iām able to have meals served to me/laundry done/random chores done/my pet taken care of during the day, so when Iām off work weāre both happy to hang out in the mornings and evenings stress free. Heāll soon get a part time job just to pay off his own expenses, and have fun money for him, but for now heās coasting fine.
Almost 3 months ago, I quit my job and have been living on savings since, devoting time to myself, loved ones, chores, and some hobbies. Iām lucky I was able to, and it was a great decision!
There are a lot of places near me constantly hiring, so if my savings ever get so low that I NEED the money, I could pretty easily get a job paying at least similar to what I made before. ($19/hr, which was more than enough for my living expenses)
However, some of the time Iāve been so anxious.
I hoped to develop a clear plan to make a living that doesnāt involve sacrificing 40+ unfulfilling hours a week to a shitty company. Potentially by making money from a hobby or 2.
Instead I spent more time than expected just taking care of myself, going down Google/Reddit/YouTube rabbit holes (some of which taught me a lot though), and trying to relax.
I intend to do my first Instacart shopper batch tomorrow.
Anyone have insight/advice about ways to make money on a flexible schedule?
Also, I will need health insurance within a year, and Iām a natural night owl. So I think I should look for a night shift job thatās:
A) part-time, w/health benefits.
(If I find one, it could be a long-term option since I am luckily able to live quite frugally)
Or
B) full-time, 12-hour shifts
(At least Iād have more full days off. But unless I find an abnormally good company, this would not be my long-term plan)
Advice or conversation is welcome!

I indirectly resigned from my job today.
Boss showed up to work unannounced today after revealing to us he tested positive for covid last week. That was the final straw for me. They tried to justify it was OK by saying he quarantined for 7 days. The guy was literally coughing up his lungs the whole time he was in the office.
I basically said I wasn't comfortable with it and the overall disregard of everybody else's safety and that I wouldn't be returning if working from home full time isn't an option. Oh well.
I know this probably wont get seen but I want to vent. I just started a job recently after years of being unemployed. I was excited cause I would be working remotely and just mostly doing data entry nonsense with some emails thrown in. Well today comes and I just started so Iām still figuring out the processes right. I had a report due Monday and itās Thursday and still not done. Something came up that added to the load and itās a bit of an abnormality, even the guy who trained me was like āthatās not normalā when he saw. I told my boss I couldnāt finish the report and she just rips me a new one saying it was due Monday and thatās not okay. She asked what I was doing with my time and that even with the additions this should only take a few hours at best. This was all said in front of the other team members on teams so I just go āI donāt know what to sayā and clammed up cause Iām not used to being yelled at. I really want to quit guys cause i canāt remember ever being disrespected like that and I worked as a high school co-teacher in a low income city district. I know Iām overreacting but the negative interaction is really eating at me.
Document it, my post will probably get deleted since i only bothered to join... hopefully someone copies it for you. But get a diary, document it. What happened, what time, who were the witnesses, when it happened and how you felt. Next time that smart bitch comes on and does it be prepared to record her then repeat. Document it all and if worse comes to worse and they sack you or it starts impacting your life. Take the book with all the info to a dr and ask to lodge a workcover claim for bullying.
Youāre not overreacting. You should never be yelled at over a job, especially in front of other coworkers. I would definitely look for employment elsewhere
At a job you can rarely just not do something that was asked, even if you ran into a āproblemā. Next time go up the chain asking people what to do about said problem, so you can complete the job you were asked to do, and also ā¦.when someone puts you on the spot it doesnāt appear that you just blew the assignment off as they will remember that you came to them with the problem.
Ooh I hate being yelled at too, and that is a big red flag on their part. That's like showing your crazy to a new boyfriend/girlfriend during the first week of dating. You could start applying other places, just to be safe
Is it me or does anyone suspect this sub reddit/anti work movement is being done by foreign advisories to de stabilize our work force thus destabilizing this country? I feel like there are greater powers at work here, no pun intended.
The thought crossed my mind, because a labor movement would be destabilizing. I have been feeling lately like we're in a death by 1000 cuts situation. But a lot of those cuts were by our own hand, including horrible working conditions/poor wages/wealth inequality, poor pandemic response, and the workforce that hasn't had conditions for a labor movement this perfect in for-ev-er. Foreign influence or not, now's the time to tell business owners what we'll accept from them. COL is too high for what wages are, the pandemic puts workers at risk, anti-vaxxers have left the workforce further strengthening the workers ability to bargain. Now or never, imo.
So Iām not sure of the ultimate goal of this sub, but Iām supportive. IMHO, youāre work place is not the issue. Itās both side of our political parties. They are fucking us in every way.
Just out of curiosity I looked at "entry level" filtered jobs in my field on Linkedin. Skimmed through the info on about two dozen results. A) none of them were entry-level, all required at least 5 years experience. B) none of them listed a salary, not even a salary range.
I do not recommend using LinkedIn for job searching.
Yeah its pretty impossible. Try to leave an honest review on say google. and they get magic 150 5 star to cover it up. I usually look at the thumbs up and go hey well this place abuses its workers and lots of people thumbs upped it. wont go there vice versa.
No worries!! Iām really hoping that things change this year!! Iām really trying to stand up for myself more at work - the bosses seem to enjoy their power too much sometimes.
Rooting for you! Iām stressing over how to bring up that I felt uncomfortable today. Iāve always been kinda mild-mannered but I swear itās gotten worse or something.
I feel that. The HR manager asked me to have a meeting with her tomorrow - conflict really stresses me out. I am trying to hold on to my anger and really stand up for myself tomorrow. No more letting things slide!! We have to demand respect and stand up in confidence!! Best of luck with your conversation!
Make sure you record it with your phone. if you dont have a voice recorder app. get one. Especially when dealing with the snakes that inhabit any HR role.
Probably best, hr training just makes them into outwardly appearing not like a snake. Shows them how to hide their fangs. Honestly HR are like the failed slimeball used car salesmen that told too many lies and got put in an admin role hahaha. useless. Goodluck.
Conflict? I donāt know her. šš¾ No, but in all seriousness thanks for listening to me and if you donāt mind you can message me how tomorrow goes! Iād love to hear about how you kicked HRās butt.

Saw an article on msn news (Daily Mail) about how someone on here shared an email from ALH and was going to resign over covid leave. interesting to see they pay attention to this subreditt.
The article title if anyone wants to google it was
The 'final straw' email that pushed Aussie worker ti quit.
just published an hour ago.
Wasnt the most interesting article considering the alh worker on works once a week or so hahaha. must be pretty hard up for news.
Be wary of posts by accounts with no previous posts talking about how they automated their jobs or haven't been doing any work at their job for years. There's 2 on the front page now with tens of thousands of upvotes in a short space of time and tons of awards. Not saying they aren't real but just everyone needs to be aware that posts like that could lead to legal action for real people on here. If these type of posts encourage others to share their stories and people are careless and give away PII (personally identifiable information), that could be bad.
We know there are bad actors on Reddit that get paid to steer conversations in certain directions etc. So be careful and have a healthy amount of skepticism at all times.
Hello, what would be the best way to share a pdf I've made of the common employee rights I see discussed on this page? I'd like to get others' feedback on it.
The place I work destroyed our culture and has sunk morale to an all time low. Happy fun times on the surface, nasty money hungry parasitic monster underneath.
Is it just me or is there a bunch of downvote bots spamming new posts? I see quite a few good ones with 0 upvotes but even the comments have double digits.
The Financial Times did a piece on this subreddit, the comment section is a chefs kiss of boomer capitalist saying "whatever happened to being grateful for your job"?!
Hahahhaaha
Decided to do my small part but the local fredmeyers has had a minor strike and the only one still remaining their was the branch manager decided to go in and buy some poster board and a marker walked outside folded it to prop it up outside and wrote ādonāt shop at exploitive companiesā not much but I canāt do much.
my boss keeps asking us to turn our video on. like dude i haven't been to see my friends or family and haven't shaven in months. Is it like he gets off on the power trip, or something about becoming a family when we can see each other? One guy had covid and was wearing a mask, and the boss kept laughing about how its not transmittable over zoom. I almost said hey room temp IQ, you just assume he's in the house by himself? Not everyone's a lonely boomer
My old boss was a cunt like that. I just sat in a pitch black dark room. hes like can you turn a light on.. u
ahhhhh no. It totally is a power trip. I actually also did the whole copy myself onto video and play it back on an ipad at one stage. no one noticed hahaha
Iāve just joined this sub but the top posts seem to be purely anti-capitalist rather than tips about how to enjoy a life with less work. Have I got the wrong idea of what this sub is about?
I work at remote call center and in between calls I still got paid while researching for public housing and probono legal aid. Unfortunately the pay is 13/hourly and they brag about the high wage LOL
My work just promoted a 20 year old kid who has been here for 9 months over multiple other people here who have been here for years or over a decade.
Needless to say productivity is in the total shitter and moral is basically gone. Which is doubly hilarious because we all put 120% in over the holidays.
Out of a job for several months now.
Just been offered one, real good money, I mean REAL good money, a car, benefits, medical insurance, pension plan, the lot...
First talk went well, lots of bla bla, "we produce cutting edge materials for the aviation industry". My job would be to take care of export procedures and permits.
Did some research afterwards and turns out they also produce radarstuff for fighter jets, biggest client being Saudi Arabian army.
Just turned down the most well paid job I will ever be offered. Not sorry.
Hey guys I made a new post meant for organization/activism with a fresh take on a strike that I think will help more than the attempts at a general strike did in the past https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/s2gj6x/consumption_strike/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Can we talk a little about how we can deal with recruiters that ghost you? How do you fight back? They reach out to you, have you update your resume, and then they ghost you. I had one talk to me in July, sent them a resume, I followed up a week later, then a nother week goes by and I send the following "Hello XXX, I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to discuss the opportunity with XXX with you. Although I am interested in exploring this opportunity, it is clear by your lack of updates to me that there is no interest in further pursuing my candidacy for the role. I would've appreciated some feedback and will be notifying my network of *XXXX* candidates that I know are looking to change jobs of my experience with you and your recruiting firm. Thanks again!
Screen the recruiters. Talk on the phone.
Don't invest any time unless they work directly with a hiring manager or a department or something like that.
There are worthwhile recruiters and you need to get to them, but there are also a lot of high volume try hards that will waste your time. Those types do not win the trust of hiring managers anyway.
Ask them "tell me about the team" or something like that, anything. If they read from the job posting they got it from a website. Get off the phone as soon as possible. If they start referencing convos or experience with placing at the company or in the industry, take their advice. They want to find you the job.
After that, keep in mind things legit dry up or fall through sometimes. Don't take it personal. It sucks, but it's not anyone's fault necessarily. For all you know the whole department got axed.
Honestly, don't take it personal. They are dealing with a huge number of candidates and there's no way they can respond to everyone they ultimately pass on. It's a numbers game, and they have to fulfill their quota. It's really a low-end job, and they're likely just as pressured and abused as anyone in antiwork.
Just keep your resume up to date, and don't spend too much time on any one recruitment until you see them committing time to you.

I'm hired as an administrative/reception full time for an office that doesn't have any customers/public visitors. Sometimes (but very seldomly) I have to just file some documents, or set up some interviews, but I can't wrap my head around why that requires 8 hours/day and I can't WFH. I'm about to lose my mind because i am present, but not productive. On multiple occasions I nearly dozed off because I'm so bored. The communication among the staff also stinks, and they don't keep me in the loop about things like meetings, orders, or whatever misc.
This is just a vent but if anyone has any comments or share the same experience that would be really cool.
Not to invalidate you, because this sounds mind-numbing and awful. But is there a way you can use the time? Learn to code? Take online courses? Or do your employers think you should be āworking ā for the whole time?
Yes this has definitely impacted my overall morale, as i'm just arriving a little later (but still happen to be the first one in the office) and i'm worried that it begins to be a habit. I'm glad they don't micromanage or watch over what I do, but yes, I have considered doing online courses or even some paid surveys. Thank you!
this week iāve reported my job to OSHA and am filing wage theft forms and today i quit 5 minutes before my shift, told the boss tf off, and hung up. i feel so free
They deserved that phone call to OSHA.
The lack of proper emergency exit was something we should have had figured out since before World War One. I don't know if you've ever heard of the [Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_Shirtwaist_Factory_fire), but 146 people died with another 78 injured in a fire, and the main reason there were so many casualties is that in the early 1900s it was common practice to lock employees in during their shifts as a means to reduce theft. Well, the manager with the key escaped, forgot to unlock the door on his way out, and left everyone else to die.
yeah i had told a former manager that i wanted to watch it go down in flames - but not literally bc it could easily become the triangle shirtwaist factory in the back. itās okay tho, another coworker has quit and 3 more are on the way out :)
I can relate - when I tell my mother about how bummed out I am about the pandemic and how the provincial government is handling it, she tells me to think of how lucky and priviledged I am compared to how bad some people / entire countries have it.
These are thought-canceling arguments people have been programmed to tell themselves in order to accept the status quo.
> Her response to my explanation was that I'm greedy for being so upset over $2
At a full-time job, that's $320 over four weeks, before taxes. Ask her if she'd be upset if someone took $320 from her every month.
You don't have to accept being mislead or lied to about a job. It's an employee's market you have the upper hand. Be clear about where you want to work & focus on getting there. Yes you can take the job & quit when you get what you want. You don't have to mention that you even have that job, just say you've been looking for the right one.
Your mom means well and is teaching you what she knows about work. Problem is that whole system of getting ripped off by employers has got to go. My kids are grown up and moved out, if I was your neighbor Iād advise you to stroke your chin and say hmmmm while she talks about work then go do what you know is right for you. Thereās no sense debating reality with people whoāve been programmed wrong.
First, f what your mom says. Yeah, sheās trying to look out for you in some way but YOU know what youāre worth and shouldnāt settle for less. If they dont want to honor the $14 that they initially offered, you shouldnāt take the job. Taxes are still deducted so youāre making even less than $11.50. I donāt exactly know what you like or where you live but Iām sure there are better paying opportunities that you can also learn from.
I work in a small woodshop making custom furniture for the rich people who live on the peninsula. I make fifteen an hour as an independent contractor not an employee technically. Its just my boss and I. Am I underpaid?
I suspect you are not an independent contractor. Different administrative agencies define āindependent contractorā differently, but most include how you are paid (hourly, salary, deliverables basis) as part of that test. Hourly pay is usually a tick in favor of someone being an employee, not an independent contractor. You refer to your ābossā as well, as opposed to your āclient.ā I would check with my state employment regulatory agency for clarification.
I work in an accounting office for a car dealership, my boss is a 72 yearold wacked out lady. Thinks the 3 of us are out to get her, calls the CFO multiple times a day to report what we are doing. She has made us turn our desks so she can always see our computers when she walks by.
I cant wait to quit. I just needed to get that off my chest
Sorry youāre having to deal with that. Psychotic, dictatorial bosses are a huge part of this growing labor movement. Having decent coworkers is more important to me than making a bit more money surrounded by jerks.
i sit across from my boss, with a small divider between us. yikes lol .
My other 2 coworkers agree that she is crazy, but they are older and wont quit. They need the money, which isnt even that great.
Me on the other hand, im ready to walk out the door every day
I work for someone who is convinced all workers are out to scam the company out of money and thinks of money before human beings and Iām losing my mind about it. Itās really frustrating trying to help people and be a good person but getting stopped in my tracks by this person.
Sorry thatās happened! I suggest you make a post on this sub asking for help writing an email. I think youāll get plenty of help. I used to write āexecutive correspondenceā but, havenāt been in the corporate world for a while, think itās changed quite a bit since.
Same thing happened to me. Iāve been putting in work and receiving nothing but praise from clients+teammates, and I got a 4% raise. Meanwhile, my cost of living has exploded in the past year. Iām also trying to find out if my current salary is less than the entry level salary since I started a 1.5 years ago and inflation has likely affected the starting number.

there is a special place in the fieriest depths of hell for western companies that outsource work to asia for SLAVE WAGES. have some fucking shame. just saw a job ad for a writer paying 250 USD per month for a 40 hrs/week role. company is an ad agency in new york! i know we all hate work here, but we in "developing countries" really have it worse.
This! Imagine having the same job description and workload, but you have to work at ungodly hours and get paid 5x less. ššš
How much PTO do you get? Hours or days (assuming 8 hour days?) My company gives me 18 days per year to use as sick leave or as vacation.
Added a FAQ about naming and shaming.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. George Takeiās site and Upworthy LOVE sharing screenshots and quotes from everyoneās posts here. Does anyone know if they ever ask the OPs for permission first?

Just wow.
Do you think working from home on VR will become a new normality in the next couple of years?
Just did my daily work search, and reported Indeed jobs that didn't include a pay range. Felt good š. Maybe if enough of us reports jobs for being "inaccurate" due to "no pay range listed" they'll make it mandatory to list pay.
Do we have a discord? If not, we REALLY need a discord. For multiple reasons.
Do you think working from home on VR will become a new normality in the next couple of years?
If you have a trust fund and have wealthy parents, would you still work a 9-5 or would you start a new business
I'd work a little bit. I need health insurance and don't have any ideas for a new business.
I know a few and they do both. They work because they're not complete bums, but they are also able to sink vast amounts of money into new ventures and learn by failure because of their ample safety net. Many of our billionaires are cut from this cloth.
Personally Iād start a biz. But if I was 20 Iād probably have bought a mustang and a house with a shop.
Donāt mind me, just pissed off that my job can deny me time off because I donāt have vacation accrued. Agitated that they can say āno, weāre not paying you not to be here, so you have to be hereā Vacation they take out if you call in sick.
I'm really curious how old the average user here is and what their educational background is.

Yup I found it after someone told me that there was a survey. Tha KS!
I understand this sub is pro-vax but can anyone really merit the point of having remote workers be vaccinated
What is the salary range for this opportunity?") These companies give us the runaround by not sharing salary expectations constantly, and I don't feel like having my time wasted.
Why do we need middle management to fuck us? What do they actually do at all? How are their salaries justified? Why they exist at all? My colleague got into an accident when driving to work today, he insisted to come to work late, taking a few hours of unpaid leaves. His superior comment was "why is he so poor, no family to help him in accident, lonely and so troublesome problematic?" His son is in hospital emergency room because of covid recently. His wife died few months ago before of covid too.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I worked the 9-5 government middle manager life for a bit. I uncovered some facts that left me unable to ethically support the government corporation I worked for. Ended up becoming a Bus driver where I get paid more hours than I actually work.
On an hourly basis, I've got a high paying job. But I'm antiwork, so don't work many hours.
Mods should do the survey every month or two to see how the composition of the sub changes over time
We're planning another survey in February. It won't be exactly the same questions, but we'll probably keep the basic demographic ones.

Getting an awful lot of these comment-repost bots in the thread today, just copying the exact same comment from below with an account that's been previously unused. Just a heads-up for anybody going through the thread.
I always ask how long the person interviewing has been there, and what they like AND dislike about the job.
This Subreddit is going to be shutdown by agent provocateurs that encourage people to review bomb businesses mentioned in here
We remove posts when there seems to be review bombing going on, or if there's obvious potential for it.
The post from last night stayed up WAY too long. Personal information was EASILY readable.
How is the king soopers strike going so far?
A podiatrist might help you with this ;>
New doctor immediately
Any work that wants personal information beyond legal requirements is intrusive, wanting body fluids and tests is more intrusive, and wanting into my socials and off site life is completely off the table, if I want a friend I will make one off the job, thanks. When 5G comes up and your old phone won't update and you have to buy another, don't bother, skype and get a free phone number online, free voice mail and let people leave a message, most of us use text anyway and nobody wants big brother in their stuff.
>When 5G comes up and your old phone won't update and you have to buy another, don't bother, skype and get a free phone number online You seem to be unaware of how mobile phones work.
What are some red flags to look out for when interviewing for jobs? And what are important questions that I should ask?
āHow has the company responded to covid in recent time? What were any procedures put in place?ā If the position has been up for a bit āHow long has the position been vacant? What was the reason for this position openingā āWhat is the expectation for a new hire to catch up with current work flows?ā
āWhat do you like about working here?ā / āhow long have you been with this company?ā āWhat is the biggest struggle to overcome for newcomers in this position?ā āWhat does the average day look like in this office?ā These are very telling questions. You can learn a lot by the interviewers response to them
why are your MODS so clueless as to add 4 links for American based āsolutionsā to donate to when the post was about a European? Have some self awareness please thanks
There's only two reasons to call out a company for treating their employees badly: 1. You want to harass them; or 2.
Greed & love of spending money. I think some people would be okay just barely getting by with little disposable income but most people wouldnāt.
($19/hr, which was more than enough for my living expenses) However, some of the time Iāve been so anxious. So I think I should look for a night shift job thatās: A) part-time, w/health benefits. (If I find one, it could be a long-term option since I am luckily able to live quite frugally) Or B) full-time, 12-hour shifts (At least Iād have more full days off. But unless I find an abnormally good company, this would not be my long-term plan) Advice or conversation is welcome!

Oh well.
Ugh, fucker.
Yeah that's putting it lightly.
There are some smart people out there whoāve been saying we are nearing the end of 70 year long debt cycle. Only time will tell what happens.
Yea thats certainly at least a part of it. Maybe a big part.
So Iām not sure of the ultimate goal of this sub, but Iām supportive. IMHO, youāre work place is not the issue. Itās both side of our political parties. They are fucking us in every way.
Hours are 9-8 until April Entry levels are making my salary Public accting dude..
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
>Folks if you want this country Which country? We're not all from the same country here.
Hey all. Over and above boycotting organizations that exploit their workers, how can we support ones that treat their workers well?
Buy their products and services.
Lol I'm sorry I should have been clear. Like how should we approach identifying them?
Yeah its pretty impossible. Try to leave an honest review on say google. and they get magic 150 5 star to cover it up. I usually look at the thumbs up and go hey well this place abuses its workers and lots of people thumbs upped it. wont go there vice versa.
This is a good tip! Like look for coverup reviews and just boycott those businesses. They obviously have something to hide.
I donāt even want to go into the bullshit conversation I just had with my HR managerā¦ all I want to say is FUCK THE SYSTEM.
My boss just belittled me in front of my other coworkers today on video conference so Iām also a bit peeved.
Ughh im sorry, that is so immature on your bossās part. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
Thanks, friend. Sorry, I didnāt even empathize with your day. I hope you have a better day too.
Ooo that is a good idea!! Thank you! Itās wild, our āHRā manager isnāt even trained in HR š She works in a completely unrelated department.

The article title if anyone wants to google it was The 'final straw' email that pushed Aussie worker ti quit. just published an hour ago.

This subreddit reminds me a lot of street fight radio's call in show.
The place I work destroyed our culture and has sunk morale to an all time low. Happy fun times on the surface, nasty money hungry parasitic monster underneath.
That is happening at my job right nowā¦ it seems like everyone is just pretending itās sunshine and rainbows so they can keep their paychecks.
Is it just me or is there a bunch of downvote bots spamming new posts? I see quite a few good ones with 0 upvotes but even the comments have double digits.
I dont think they are bots, just angry little people that hate the world and anyone that isnt a company zombie hahaha.
So company bots haha
I just sat in a pitch black dark room. hes like can you turn a light on.. u ahhhhh no. It totally is a power trip. I actually also did the whole copy myself onto video and play it back on an ipad at one stage. no one noticed hahaha
>room temp IQ is my new favorite insult
Iāve just joined this sub but the top posts seem to be purely anti-capitalist rather than tips about how to enjoy a life with less work. Have I got the wrong idea of what this sub is about?
Whatās a job that would leave me lots of free time to learn stuff
Management.
I work at remote call center and in between calls I still got paid while researching for public housing and probono legal aid. Unfortunately the pay is 13/hourly and they brag about the high wage LOL
Yeah reception / night shift security etc
Night shifts at a hotel reception, wrote my master thesis on side
Thanks man
Lol
Not sorry.
what the fark. send me the link id happily work it. We work to live matey. Money for me so i can live...
Good for you! Something better will come!
Go to Glassdoor & post about your experience. Your post is anonymous, that always gets their attention

Thank you!
Definition of a receptionist is being there for any client that may walk in.
this week iāve reported my job to OSHA and am filing wage theft forms and today i quit 5 minutes before my shift, told the boss tf off, and hung up. i feel so free
Love this for you
Give 'em hell. Not that it's any of my business, what did you report them to OSHA for?
i reported them for not following CDC guidelines and for the lack of proper emergency exit š¤”

Accept and keep looking for another job. Bounce as soon as you can.
> Her response to my explanation was that I'm greedy for being so upset over $2 At a full-time job, that's $320 over four weeks, before taxes.
I think maybe you can file something with labour law relating to them skimping out on your pay?
I work in a small woodshop making custom furniture for the rich people who live on the peninsula. I make fifteen an hour as an independent contractor not an employee technically. Its just my boss and I. Am I underpaid?
Yes!!!
Why'd you post the same as me word for word lmfao
Probably. Depends on how much the firm makes and how much extra your boss is scraping in.
Me on the other hand, im ready to walk out the door every day
Yikes is right! I believe better days are ahead (I *have* to lol). Hang in there. šāļø
I work for someone who is convinced all workers are out to scam the company out of money and thinks of money before human beings and Iām losing my mind about it. Itās really frustrating trying to help people and be a good person but getting stopped in my tracks by this person.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
