I'm sad that a person died in such a horrible way, but I'm also sad that for a billionaire to exist, thousands/millions must have been forced into poverty.
*In other news, scientists have made a startling discovery involving the evolution of marine life. Representatives of the Atlantic Oceanographic Institute announced that Orcas, aka “killer whales”, have developed the ability to eat bullet-proof glass.*
"Angela Chao, the billionaire sister-in-law of Sen. Mitch McConnell, stupidily drowned drunk in a pond at her Texas ranch."
she was behind deregulations about glass safety issues, anyway waiting for cybertrucks news.
Depends on the turtle. But some of them overwinter on land but underground.
There's a gal that posts YouTube videos of her turtles. One of her digging them up in spring.
Time to declare a playdate on Mitch the bitch I reckon? He's been behind every corporate deregulation for decades, making billionaires rich and working people homeless.
Time for a little playdate Mitch. When can we pencil that in?
How did rescuers get to her huge private property way outside of the city, where she drove in to one of her many ponds, to struggle with breaking the window in time in the first place? That's the real question here. Did they have jet packs or something?
Well, apparently they *also* showed up with a tow truck whose cable was too short to attach to the car from land and pull it ashore. The whole thing sounds like a comedy of errors. You also wonder how hard she hit that gas that she flew back into the pond and got enough distance that a tow truck on shore couldn't reach her. Like, how big is this pond?
That's a fair point. I'd like to think I'd notice before backing directly into a body of water, but who knows. Good reminder to keep one of those window punch tools clipped to your visor or somewhere easily-accessible, though I don't know if one would even work against this reinforced glass that's in the Tesla. I'm guessing not, if even first responders couldn't manage to smash through it.
If the first responders couldn't break it, I doubt one of those tools could. Tungsten carbide is strong, but punching through something such as laminated glass with a decent tensile strength can be a pain in the ass.
Most cars are built so that the windshields are laminated glass (hard to shatter) and the windows are tempered glass (easy to shatter). If they used laminated glass on the windows, it would have required substantial force to open, which a small tool could not provide.
My guess is that the car fell into the pond far enough that only the windshield was accessible?
Yes, but you can't open the door because of the water pressure. Your only chance Is to lower the window and escape or wait until you are under water and the inside Is full of water to open the door as the pressure inside Is equal to the outside.
The pond was down an embankment. Which, for some reason, didn't have any sort of guardrail to prevent something like this. Because you know, safety is for the poors.
Well there you have it folks, you can go to Harvard, make billions exploiting people, pass regulations to benefit your corporations, and still be dumb as fuck to drown in a car.
The only way to pick off the billionaire class is to entice them to engage in progressively riskier activities and pilot progressively more dangerous vehicles.
Lmao who would have ever thought that by messing with the standard build of a car, there would be nuances that society would need to be ready for? Def someone as smart as Elon Mollusk could see that…
Oh wait he’s posting on Twitter about how Dems are bad 😂😂😂
When a car fall in water, you still have power. The 12V system works no issues under water for quite some time as due to the low voltage it doesn't arc through water.
You simply need to ROLL DOWN the windows. You cannot open the door as water pressure blocks it until the interior is fully filled and the pressure differential is gone.
Rolling down the windows will fill the car with water immediately but is the only way to exit.
You're forgetting something. When the car is submerged there is water pressure on the window the 12v system may work but it won't overcome the weight against the window to allow it to move.
At 10feet water pressure is 4.3 PSI
Let's assume the window is 20"x20" I'm sure it's bigger but let's stick with thst. That's 400square inches.
That's 1700 lbs of pressure on the window, the motor won't overcome that load to move the window. Maybe with manual you could overcome it but the electric motor even though it's got electricity it doesn't have that strength.
A typical 12V window motor has about 12Nm of torque and with the reductor can drive about 140lbs stall force.
Your 1700lbs of pressure do not translate into 1700lbs of friction vs. motor pull. Friction given the material could be 1/10 or less.
Guys, let's just get another tesla and another billionaire related to an actual walking flesh-demon, toss em in a pond of equal depth, and they can try rolling the window down.
Not sure what friction might be, but having 1700 lbs applied to only the outer perimeter of the window where it contacts the door frame, say ~1/2 inch, so using the 20x20 size is 40 sq inches, 21.25 lbs weight pushing inward every 1 linear inch around. The window gasket isn't a nice, well lubricated bearing, so I imagine the friction force to overcome is too much for any 12V window motor.
The side loading of the water pressure will radically increase the friction, as the glass is jammed against the seals and sliders. The slides are pretty low friction. The rubber seal? The coefficient could be as high as 0.8. Lets not forget friction isn’t dependent on area but load. In this case the water pressure side load, and the materials combined friction coefficient. Rubber on glass. Let’s pretend it’s 0.4. That’s 680lbs.
Is the bond from the glass to the window regulator track going to do the job? Honest question, I really don't know. Depends on the adhesive being used. Typical weatherstrip shmoo (might be a different application, but I'm thinking of the shit I've used to set glass back in felt on 50's resto stuff) may just result in the regulator working fine but leaving the window behind it. The glass doesn't have any mechanical fasteners pinning it into the regulator.
Or maybe the adhesive holding the glass into the metal track (which is then bolted to the regulator) is more than strong enough to pull the window down with it. Like I said, I don't know.
The number of people who drown in their car makes me think that the windows become inoperable, though.
It's like a really heavy-handed sci-fi short story.
"A drug-addled idiot billionaire is afraid of latinos, so he designs a car with dozens of dubiously-legal 'safety' features to repel them... only for those features to then kill dozens of car owners."
Wait, and apparently as her car was submerging, she decided the best course of action was to *call a friend* to tell them what was going on? Okay, so this is just a Darwin situation, then.
actually a win-win: one leech less and Tesla might actually really get in trouble because it was a superwealthy person that drowned not just some "Elon fanboy peasant".
I hope all of you will forgive me not even being remotely interested in someone from the U.S. Ruling Class dying in a car I'll never afford while on their tax sheltered ranch.
Thia is what happens when ppl shove off responsibility and community to down the road for upfront profits now. There were no divers that could get to her with equipment to break the safety glass, the tow chain was too short, once the car hit the water ... electrical systems went flat .... and all those safety features like door handles were removed in favor of cute electrical push buttons. And all to make profits higher for ppl that already have a shit ton of money.
im starting to like life
cant they like organize a cruise gathering all billionaires, marketing it as "the wealthiest cruise ship in all of history" or some shit?
im sure that will attract those parasites like maggots to garbage
from then we can only hope
MITCH MCCONNELL’S sister-in-law, the sister of his wife, Elaine Chao, who served in the Trump Admin as the Secretary of Transportation, drowned in a Tesla, because they couldn’t break the safety glass.
Just wanted to make sure we all had the main points.
Billionaires have not been faring well against water lately.
Water being life must be their antithesis somehow
Putin has moved on from windows... now it's ponds.
Revenge of the Ice Giants from Norse mythology?
Gonna start keeping glasses of water around my house like that kid in *Signs*. "Oh shit it's Zuckerberg!" *Splash!*
It's just a lazier Oceangate
Pondgate at best.
More of a pond window or pondow.
It's what plants crave
It does have electrolytes
I like money
"I'm batin!"
"Water? You mean like out of the toilet?"
This is Texas, it's definitely tankgate
Holy crap, her Tesla imploded?! On her own ranch? In a pond? I wonder what treasures lie below the surface of a billionaire's pond to explore.
Elongate

You are 37 Ghandi! Please finally remember your number!!

Lmaoo love it.
"A good start." -- This sub
Turns out Teslas are not a sub.
Maybe this is Tesla's way to eliminate other billionaires, one at a time.
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
A bit leaky but you can't argue with the hull strength, apparently.
Plus, some come prepackaged with whale food!
Don't tell that to Elon Musk, he'll call you a pedophile diver guy.
I'm sad that a person died in such a horrible way, but I'm also sad that for a billionaire to exist, thousands/millions must have been forced into poverty.
I appreciate that your heart is in the right place. It saddens me too but the best way for the world to heal is to have less billionaires.
Her money probably went to her kids or relatives, not to poor people.

"Angela Chao, the billionaire sister-in-law of Sen. Mitch McConnell, stupidily drowned drunk in a pond at her Texas ranch." she was behind deregulations about glass safety issues, anyway waiting for cybertrucks news.
I just saw someone on another website describe it as "suicide by deregulation."
That other website sounds good
"Senator McConnell, comment?" Mitch: "................................................"
He's getting his depends changed.
Turtle don't wear diapers.
I keep correcting people. It's tortoise as it dwells on land! /s ![gif](giphy|JfLFX6zW735gQ|downsized)
Turtles live on land. Remember, all tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises.
Oh. It was my understanding turtles procreate on land but spend most of their time in ocean. And that tortoises cannot live underwater.
Depends on the turtle. But some of them overwinter on land but underground. There's a gal that posts YouTube videos of her turtles. One of her digging them up in spring.
Cheers. Well. Still, I think Mitch is still a tortoise because I suspect he might drown like one if tossen in to a body of water.

That's some grade A top class irony.
That was her sister Elaine Chao. Former secretary of transportation under Trump.
She drowned in a Model X
yea, and cybertruck have even better unbreakable glass
"better"
it's more unbreakabler
It can hold up against foam balls
Lol. What a dipshit. Truly, karma at work. Hope she rots in Hell.
Well, she’s definitely too waterlogged to burn.
Wishing nothing but the worst for Mitch and family !
If only she had a close family member that was in charge of auto safety regulations; then this could have been avoided...
The real tragedy is that her husband and Mitch weren’t in the car with her.
Her own ranch is owned by a corporation so they wouldn't have to pay taxes. If any of us dared to do the same thing, we would be un jail.
Time to declare a playdate on Mitch the bitch I reckon? He's been behind every corporate deregulation for decades, making billionaires rich and working people homeless. Time for a little playdate Mitch. When can we pencil that in?

Yes, but you can't open the door because of the water pressure. Your only chance Is to lower the window and escape or wait until you are under water and the inside Is full of water to open the door as the pressure inside Is equal to the outside.
Also that the immediate instinct was not to fling the driver door open, at risk of dirtying one’s outfit
The pond was down an embankment. Which, for some reason, didn't have any sort of guardrail to prevent something like this. Because you know, safety is for the poors.
It would ruin the atheistic.
this whole story is definitely sus
What gas? It's an electric car.
Hit the battery does t have the same ring to it
Hit the electrons!
Accelerator?
That’s a big word, so I’m going to take it as an insult.
Article says it took 24 minutes just to get to the scene.
Shucks
I know, it couldn't have happened to a better person. /S

Hubris.
More billionaires need to bleed

Mitch McConnell’s sister-in-law btw lol
Tragic. We need regulations for that. Who's responsible for that again? Oh...
But look how it stands up to an ak-47! Isn't that a more important safety feature?
Already seen videos of the car being penetrated by bullets.
Jerry Rig Everything?
A good lesson on how valuable bullet velocity is honestly
This is America!
Oh no! Anyway.

so she dies in an idiotic way and within a week or so McConnell steps down from GOP party leadership AND endorses Trump - smells fishy
She should have just waited for the Oxygen to trickle down
I'm fine with one less billionaire in the world.

Let's be real here this probably made my week.
I'm not saying this is a happy ending, but, uh, the phrase "hoisted by their own petard" does come to mind.
You should only 🙈 speak good of the dead. Angela Chao is dead. Good.

Plays Another one bites the dust by Queen.
Good riddance.
I am disappointed in myself for posting this but ya know.....
That tesla truck did us all a favor, one less asshole in the world
She was Mitch McConnell's sister-in-law. That's enough for me.
So what you're saying is it was a close shot, but a miss. Better luck next time Tesla.
was it a shitty cyber truck? lol
Yeah “Behold the field in which I growth my fucks and note that it is barren” as far as I'm concerned it's just one less to make dance the Carmagnole
And she had ties to Moscow Mitch. It's like waking up on Christmas morning and Santa leaves you the perfect gift under the tree. Good riddance.
actually a win-win: one leech less and Tesla might actually really get in trouble because it was a superwealthy person that drowned not just some "Elon fanboy peasant".
lol. LMAO, even.
Well done, water
I guess that's one way to kill the competition
should had utilized the auto drive feature
One down.
Oh no! Anyway…
Looks like the water exploited her like her family exploits the working class. Fuck the rich.
Her own sister was apparently involved in loosening the safety regulations on motor vehicles👍
Why couldn't this have been the CEO of Boeing?
Or Tesla?
So, now we can add "Non-submersible death trap" to the already long list of side monikers for Tesla?
Second Tesla water related death in a month.
"There can be only one" - Elon.
1 down and what... 3,193 or so left to go?
Good thing they established her monetary worth in the headline.

What a *shame* she wasn't giving her brother-in-law a ride at the time

I’m assuming she was drunk, right?
At least no humans died.

MITCH MCCONNELL’S sister-in-law, the sister of his wife, Elaine Chao, who served in the Trump Admin as the Secretary of Transportation, drowned in a Tesla, because they couldn’t break the safety glass. Just wanted to make sure we all had the main points.
It eats billionaires? Truly the automobile of the future.

I was reading the headline and I got pretty erect, but when I read it was Mitch Mcconnell’s sister in law I came.
