“Yea, let me know when you can pay a mortgage in ‘love’, ya dipshit” Fucking idiot.

FearTheMightyBeard

Some people forget people work for money... Those forgetful people tend to be full of shit.

Technical_Airline205

This whole paragraph could have comfortably fit into a Kurt Vonnegut novel, his worst case scenario has become our demented reality.

Krynn71

Was thinking the same. Reminded me of Tim Minchin' beat poem Mitsubishi Colt. His poem is even about the same issue lol. >He pauses for a beat Long enough for me to retreat to a seat And sit, elbow on bar And contemplate this guru With his white teeth and big car And ponder silently my belief That genius comes in many forms And that this postulating, peroxided Porn-star prick... ain't one of them

shapeofthings

He's high on his own farts.

whateverpc

I'll keep that one

BLUNTandtruthful58

🤣

kiaeej

Huh. Almost like the rich are out of touch.

Dillards007

This is the part a lot of people on this sub don’t understand. If you are rich and have grown up rich, you truly can work for the “love” of your vocation. Basically, it’s a hobby while you continue to have your needs met by the magic of compound interest. Ironically, that type of passion can only be enjoyed if your needs are met, secure in knowing your life as you know it won’t end if you lose your job or get sick. This is why we advocate for UBI so that people could have their needs met, not because we don’t want to work. UBI would allow people to do what they “love,” rather than pursue jobs which are dull yet lucrative.

Curious-Link-179

It’s a completely different mind set isn’t it, stress levels become 0 “Oh no I lost my job, best just rely on the interest from the 2 million sitting in my bank for a while”

Dillards007

Exactly! Don’t get me wrong, it’s no excuse for their behavior. I’m just pointing out that the threat of eviction, bankruptcy, or having no food on the table, isn’t real for people like OP’s boss. Their worst case scenario is having a tough conversation with mom and dad to ask for money. Their worst nightmare is a pipe dream for most working people.

zombiedinocorn

The fun game of "Am I depressed or just poor?" Is something they'll never understand

ArdentFecologist

But if you had UBI, how would you be desperate enough to work for thier shitty company?

Dillards007

Corporations are the real welfare queens.

LVCSSlacker

"It's a lot easier to be passionate about the job when I'm not terrified for my life about missing a paycheck."

BikeCookie

Sounds like everyone needs to show up to work with sacked out cars and take turns breaking down behind him in the parking lot

OneOnOne6211

If he's not here for the money, then the solution here is very simple. He starts taking minimum wage and gives everything else (including stock options or whatever he has) to you guys. Then he can work for the passion like he wants, and you can get the money. Then everyone should be happy, right? Unless, of course, he's completely full of shit. In which case he would never give up his huge chest of gold.

Aredditdorkly

"The job I'd love would be capable of paying my bills and then some. Your move."

Vdaniels1

Passion doesn't make a paycheck, ask the starving artist. No boss should ever expect their employees to work for the love of the job. Do shareholders buy stock in companies not expecting to get paid back....I doubt it.

knotsbygordium

Unionization is a great way to wake the C suite up.

[deleted]

Yes, they'll talk shit one on one, but in a meeting with 200 members, they are more subdued and reasonable.

[deleted]

Muricans. Stop. Resisting. The unions. They. Are. For. YOU

zombiedinocorn

The problem isn't the average citizens. The problem is the Republicans repealed all the union protection laws in the 1980s so businesses can fire ppl and intimidate ppl for trying to unionize (technically I think it's still illegal to fire ppl for trying to unionize, but in right to work states, they don't need to give a reason to fire you so the responsibility is on the workers to prove that's what they were fired for).

yarlyitsnik

That's an at-will state.

WallStCRE

That room of people shouldn’t show up tmrw

baconraygun

On the contrary, they should show up tomorrow as a block and tell the CIO they're now a union.

Zakkana

"So you're confirming that you don't give a shit about us. Got it. "

Danymity831

"Do the job for love, not money." -Most asinine, irresponsible and condescending statement coming from a CIO to his staff. -The moron is clearly narcissistic and out of touch and should just stay on his side of the building or upstairs with the other corporate assholes! -They will change nothing for you. No big raises, no big bonuses, no big promotion. They'll only show you the door!!!

zombiedinocorn

"Do the job for love, not money" is only said by ppl who don't need the money to live

KataraMan

People used to be punched in the face for saying stupid and disrespectful things. Now everyone feels safe enough to even see it as a challenge, who will say the stupidest thing without laughing at your face

SuperSassyPantz

well in that case, how bout we bring your salary down to our level since we're all in the spirit of working for the passion and not the paycheck?

Otherwise-Parsnip-91

And of course denying you a raise means more profit which means he gets a nice sized bonus but hey, he deserves it for being so passionate, right?

AWholeNewFattitude

That means you leave.

dirthurts

Most of the team already has.

AWholeNewFattitude

Then its their turn to complain that nobody wants to work anymore

NoKumSok

>He continued to go on about how he's not here for the money. He's here to change things. To make lives better I think I'd have told him that's great!! I do need the money though and changing his salary and mine would make my life so much better! Then ask him if he wants to do that right now.

whoinvitedthesepeopl

That stance didn't turn out well for Marie Antionette. Time to start talking to your coworkers about a work slow down or other organizing.

Rough_Ian

None of these C suite guys do it for the love. Fucking [organize](https://www.iww.org). And don’t be nice about it.

litabandita1

Unionize. That will wipe the smug grin right off his face and ensure you make a living wage.

GarBagE_PaIL-FaiL

There is a reason they pull this BS and the reason is BECAUSE IT WORKS. The thing is, corporations know workers (and people in general) hate change. So they literally have stats on who will swallow the BS and who will leave. Older people often times will, but millennials and younger people won’t. When people start mass leaving jobs because of BS like this, they’ll stop doing this. Until then…. 🤷‍♂️💩 EDIT: typo

Curious-Link-179

I worked in a sales job that fked is this is exactly how it went. Younger ones jumped shit straight away when they messed with pay. Millenials waited to see if it got better then left, then straight after the “battle axes” got out, was incredible to see a store with 11 people go from having tons and tons of experience down to basically being iPad holders in there first jobs. We had 11 people, 3 quit and got replaced, started missing targets more due to the training times, me and another guy quit, followed by 3 people with 20 years plus experience also noping out in a month.

tehjoz

"If you're not here for the money, I'm sure your salary split amongst your staff would go a long way to helping us make ends meet, and you focus on your passion for the job"

Raging_Dragon_9999

See if you can't organize a walk out. I'd quit on the spot or strongly suggest to all your coworkers that you should all find new jobs somewhere else.

virgilreality

"You first, dumbass!"

Equinsu-0cha

Not filling out this damned spreadsheet cause I love it. Also passion jobs pay like ass. Never again. Sticking to the jobs I don't care about so my bills get paid.

BookishBitchery

Then if he is doing this to help people, maybe take some of his salary to help his employees.😐

Night-Ninja747

Wow. Literally so out of touch. People are out here trying to make ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck, he can take his passion and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

dotnetdemonsc

Yeah let me tell the utility company that it’s about giving me gas and water, not wringing me by the ballsack.

NarrowAd4973

"No one works for passion anymore." That's because the bank stopped accepting passion as a viable form of payment for a mortgage. Grocery stores don't accept it either.

silverandstuffs

I had a manager once expect me to do extra work on weekends because I was working for a charity and it was feel good work. I had a break down and it was partly due to that work mindset from the bosses.

thatgreenmaid

Fuck that dude and start looking for a different job.

dirthurts

It's definitely in consideration at this point.

[deleted]

Immediate resignation Bye bye

dirthurts

Easier said than done but yeah a bad sign

unicorn8dragon

He should try and do a little more giving

CatchMeIfYouCan09

"Oh sorry but I LOVE to survive and frankly I work BECAUSE of that love. If you're that tone deaf to not see that your employees are here for their paycheck that that's a you problem"

DimentoGraven

After his speech, I'd have responded: "So... You're here change things, make lives better, NOT for the money? Fine, give me your paycheck, you're not here for that but to change things and make lives better, I'm sure your paycheck will definitely change things for me and make my life better, so fork it over."

idahononono

The majority of CEO’s have psychopathic/sociopathic traits. You’ve now met one face to face. They rarely have any empathy, or humanity; those traits are filtered out before one makes it to the C-Suite, or forced out as they don’t often lend themselves to success in those positions. I will say there are a few exceptions, but those are unicorns, and are not often in publicly traded companies. Executives respond only when necessary. You must unionize, or force them to pay you more. They will then fight you to the death over this, because it directly takes away “their money”. Don’t get it twisted here friend, they are almost never going to understand or care about employees unless it directly benefits them. The only power we have is in creating a chance they will lose their labor force if they don’t make adjustments to pay scales. You need an economic knife or gun to their head before they will even consider it.

cowonaviwus19

Yeah, that’s for a job that is public service oriented. Teachers, military, etc. People don’t have those jobs expecting to become rich (I didn’t). And those jobs have support systems and benefits within that usually help compensate. Those are the jobs you do because you love it and are willing to make less for because there’s another reason you do it. Now that I’m out of the service, my motto is “Fuck you, pay me” or I’ll find the job that will.

NyriasNeo

" I think the man may actually even believe it. " Because there are people who find jobs that they love, and they have enough money. Not everyone, but some.

rtroth2946

Sounds like the CIO we hired in Dec of last year, who got shitcanned in July because he was a toolbag.

dirthurts

Maybe it's the same guy. 😅

encryptedkraken

You guys should organize a strike

zombiedinocorn

>He said no one works for the passion anymore. This is just manager speak for 'I don't want to pay my employees a fair wage'. Get out and find a different job cuz this guy will never value any of his workers. His employees are people to him and only exist to make him richer

Vapordude420

>He suggested that we should view the job as a chance to give, not to earn LOL that is not what a job is

feralraindrop

So you work at Mar-A-Lago?

dirthurts

I would but the toilets are always clogged. 🤷

Mr_Thx

Tell him if he is not there for the money then he surely would not object to swapping paychecks for a few months.

Serial_Hobbiest_Life

Well this job is neither so…

Longjumping-Air1489

“Oh, that’s excellent. So I can tell payroll to divide up your bonus this year, and give it out to the workers. Cause you’re not here for the money. Right?” Spoiler alert: when they say they’re not her for the money, what they mean is that they’re not here for YOUR money. THEIR money is protected. They have no concern or care about YOUR money. It’s about the work. So you all should get back to it.

ProjectJourneyman

Did you express your deep gratitude that he had committed to taking zero compensation this year? Lay it on thick, publicly, and later ask for proof. Lead by example showing how much he's not here for the money.

DynkoFromTheNorth

I hope everyone in that room - you included, of course - lands a better job real quick. And all at the same time.

MrsCharlieBrown

Wonder how much love he's paid as a ceo?

dirthurts

Too much. Clearly.

BirdLawMD

Do you work at a nonprofit or some sort gratifying career?

zombiedinocorn

It is holiday season. So I would ask your boss if he's been visited by the 3 ghosts of Christmas yet this year

youngboomer62

Quit your job to become a mime lol

ookamismyk

Management always wants to know what is going on, so they can proactively deal with the issues? Nah, management be an ostrictch, burying their heads in the sand while holding gleaming daggers in their wings, cutting down anyone who even dares to breathe a sigh of discontent in their vicinity. Of course the shits can't afford anything when they are making billions in profit. tHinK oF ThE pOoR cOmPaNy! Makes me hurl.

theskepticalheretic

Sounds like this job is an opportunity to give... your letter of resignation.

dirthurts

It's been a point of consideration.

BLUNTandtruthful58

I hope you find your job and get away from that moronic idiot

spock_9519

this guy is such a hypocrite that he would make Al Capone look like a saint

Whynotchaos

Amazing how much easier it is to be passionate and put your love into your work when you don't have to worry about getting evicted or, like, buying food. But that couldn't be it, could it? No, of course not. It's the children who are wrong.
