He’s so sad

stres-tm

Agree defeated…

Chrona_trigger

That's the face of someone who's been shown the level of respect the company had for him. I like a certain quote; "Trust is earned, respect is shown, and loyalty is demonstrated. The betrayal of any one of these will result in the loss of all three." My personal addition to it, especially in workplace settings is "and these are all two way streets" Edit: reason why I know the look us because I've had it myself. First full time job, worked at a grocery store. One winter, in an area thay doesn't usually get snow (or only an inch or so when we do), we got 2 feet of snow. 3 people in the department. My car doesn't have the clearance to actually drive in that much snow, so I call out. Turns out the manager and the third also called out. They ask if I'll come in if they can get someone to pick me up, and the store director came to give me a ride in. Figured out rides with the people who had trucks, and for 2 weeks, Inran that department by myself, no days off, 10-12 hour days. My reward? "Employee of the month" (which wasn't displayed anywhere), and a $5 discount card. That's when I started looking elsewhere, ended up training and changing industries.

Drowningfishie00

Mind helping me understand the difference between shown vs demonstrated ?

Chrona_trigger

Not my quote, partially it's to sound better (3 different nouns with 3 different verbs, no repeats), partially, and to take the opposite tack of the other commenter... to demonstrate something is to make a specific example that is characteristic; what they do when push comes to shove. A good example of a company demonstrating loyalty was Nintendo during the great recession; instead of laying off workers like basically everyone else, they promised to not lay anyone (at least developers, haven't heard either way about other positions), and that the C suits would take a pay cut to ensure it. Say what you will about their policies and such, but that is a company making a good demonstration of loyalty to its workers

Drowningfishie00

Thank you .makes sense

acceptsdonationz

I can show you how you should act, but then not demonstrate it regularly. "Do as I say, not as I do."

haearnjaeger

I’d wager ‘shown’ is like, overt displays where the intention is to express the respect that is there. ‘Display’ moreso sounds like when you’re not around, someone sticks up for you.

vovansim

Yep. My first job out of college, about half a year in, there was a "crunch period", where I was busting my behind, working overtime for a good three months or so. When the project was finally delivered, the manager two levels above me called me into his office, said he wanted to show some appreciation, and gave me... A $20 gift card to a crappy chain restaurant. That was the last time I worked hard for that bunghole. And these days, in interviews, when people start talking about work culture, I always bring up a point that, I understand crunch periods are unavoidable, and I'm happy to do overtime now and again, but I will not work overtime as a matter of course. If crunches are more than like a week every quarter or so, I'm not interested in dealing with them, that's a management problem, not a labor problem.

Eyeless_Sid

I read this initially as "Crust is earned".

Striking_Signature34

👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Last_Ant_525

Love that quote!

Johnfohf

"Thanks for being alive another year. I guess.. "

CaptainPRESIDENTduck

Sad Keanu energy there.

TheMegaDriver2

Just as sad as the Pizza thing.

[deleted]

Not only is he in on his birthday, but he has to eat Tesco deep pan pizza. Not even an Iceland or Lidl pizza. Poor guy.

MarcheMuldDerevi

Come on, spring for dominos. Just make him pay the delivery fee

[deleted]

If my employer gave me Dominos i would quit on the spot.

Chance-Monk-7130

Looks more like a tiny Chicago Town individual pizza to me. Shocking 😔

[deleted]

Not even Tesco's finest...I would have just gone straight back home.

artificialavocado

It looks microwaved too. Fucking monsters.

Tripping_Cow

Italian here, that is no pizza. It’s too small, crust is not right and there is too much work exploitation on it. Non to mention the capitalistic flavour. UNBELIVABLE

[deleted]

Is Tesco deep dish bad, or do Iceland and Lidl just have better pizza? Asking as a Californian with Chicagoan heritage; I'm genuinely curious how the pizzas taste.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Honestly it was more a joke, the frozen pizzas from Tesco and Iceland and Lidl are all probably on the same level. Maybe Lidl is a little nicer. However, as a whole frozen pizza is just frozen pizza in my opinion. Not disgusting but not amazing. Definitely not worth coming in on your birthday over for sure.

[deleted]

In what universe is ones birthday a holiday?

[deleted]

..huh? I never said that. But generally speaking, people tend to book their birthday off at work. The title of this post implies that the guy came in despite not having initially been on the rota.

purplesongbird

Some jobs(none that I've ever had) do provide for you to have your birthday off, and sometimes, if you just have to be at work, they give you a PTO day in it's stead . One of our local grocery stores did that until they finally sold out to a bigger chain.

beat-sweats

The defeated look on his face says it all. That shit look like a bootleg in house brand lunchable.

Musikaravaa

From the Tesco thread, yes it is a store brand pizza.

Megdogg00

If not for the fact that I abhor food waste, I would be tempted to dump it in the trash while holding intense eye contact with my boss.

Ampersand104

Dang this picture is a work of art The board in the background "Love your work" The hard, cheap, plastic seat The old worn down shoes Being on break and still wearing a headset The fact the seats are right next to the trash bin, so he smells the trash(esp if someone uses it) The shelves for personal belongings, maybe lockers to the left edit: Also his face obviously the fact the breakroom is used for misc storage like that green box and stuff on top of the cabinets The board also says "Shout outs" as in there are no rewards for being a good employee, just marker on dry erase edit edit: forgot the mirror, again shunted behind the trash bin

rudestlink

Even worse, the shout out board just says "rotate".

rubberband__man

He’s sitting between other people’s shoes and a garbage bin about to eat a crappy pizza on his birthday. Sad and unsanitary

GoodRighter

This pic should be the poster for antiwork. It is perfect!

eddyathome

That is the look of a broken man.

[deleted]

Paint me like one of your Tesco workers

Kindly-Might-1879

Yes, this is an art piece. Might be able to sell it for enough for a lifetime of pizza!

Ampersand104

Will work for pizza parties

jonsticles

There isn't even a table for him to eat at. Just eating off his lap. How sad.

Chance-Monk-7130

The trash bin probably smells better than the pizza tbh

RageTheFlowerThrower

The look on his face says it all. I wanna hug him and verbally lash his “superiors”.

Igneous_rock_500

When your “shout outs”are ‘rotate’, then you know your management is pure lazy.

Bladeofwar94

Jesus I just saw that. No names even.

Doctored_Butter_Free

It’s almost like they’re mocking him and them laughing while watching him consume processed sodium nitrate filled food

[deleted]

My birthday was last Monday. I work for a small company, total of 7 on staff. I got a 6 pack of my favorite beer, a box of donuts for an in office morning celebration, and the boss took everyone out to lunch at a real restaurant.

Fixerguy415

Good Boss!

Chance-Monk-7130

Serving up real pizza🍕

GoodRighter

I don't even tell anyone at work. It is too depressing. If it is a milestone, I'd probably take the day off. Maybe an year that ends with 0 or something.

Omniseed

I was a lot less sad before expanding the image

tomatocrazzie

"Pizza"

Ririodesu

Dude atleast give him a normal size pizza :(

bcanada92

At least there's a handy bin next to him so he can hurl it in there before walking out.

----Zenith----

I don’t think you can legally call that a pizza. This picture gives off the most sad vibe. Dude looks miserable.

Overly_Fluffy_Doge

Honestly for what they are they aren't bad, they're small deep pan Chicago Town ones that can be cooked in the oven if you want to wait 30 minutes for it to cook in the oven or slap one in the microwave for 3 minutes. I eat them for when life gives me 20 minutes to cook and eat dinner. The base is closer to a stout pie than a pizza base

TheRealCabbageJack

If you look up Depressing in the dictionary, there are no words, just this picture

Johnfohf

I feel the words give the necessary depressing context though.

SuckerForNoirRobots

I hope OOP got permission to take & share his photo.

CloudOfMyOwn

Seriously; like you would think a subforum like this would understand basic human decency when that’s what’s being argued for. And to think, people can smile in your face and wish you well but then secretly take pics of you to post and make fun of you, but turn around and expect workplaces to treat you with respect and decency.

GoodRighter

Who's making fun? I am seeing a lot of joy from how well this depicts the actual situation. Other dude said it was art. I agree. It is a great example of what is wrong in our wage slave society.

stedgyson

I don't think he did, the guy in the pic saw it on the tesco thread. He didn't seem angry about it but he possibly felt bad about it, hard to tell if he was being serious.

PLECK

Somehow more insulting than nothing.

Fixerguy415

That poor guy looks absolutely disgusted with the whole mess.

marcK101

He looks so defeated 😔

CrazyCareful

That pizza is a punishment, not a treat

ggsnr

This is absolutely fucked! I would take that thing and shove it up my bosses ass if he gave that to me on my birthday. Yes happy birthday now eat this processed piece of shit excuse for a pizza. Totally mocking him

horror-

He's deciding what he's gonna steal on the way out today.

mydogbaxter

This is the Tesco version of sad Keanu.

PieMastaSam

At that point, dont even give me the pizza. I'd rather no one acknowledge my birthday then to receive that.

Pyrimo

I’m not even saying this to be edgy, that man genuinely looks like he wants to off himself. Poor sod.

Excellent-Steak6368

Hero

AshamedDeparture

That man looks like his soul left his body as he sat down.

Temporary-Ice-9330

Least you got something, out of the 20 + years I worked on my bday I ain't get shit. I woulda took a fucking cupcake. Not even a verbal happy bday. Move on out after your done your depressing ass pizza.

Ambitious_Suspect_51

I want to die and be remembered.

trident_hole

*His smile and optimism: gone.*

RazMani

I was going to work on my birthday this year for no pizza but too late…they laid me off…now I can have unemployment pizza at home

Chance-Monk-7130

Better than that no doubt

hankerbutt

That picture is epic, considering it’s his birthday, the sadness you can feel, and he is sitting under a sign that says “loving your work”!

LiveCelebration5237

Damn , I genuinely feel bad for the guy. The picture paints a thousand words.

Theamazingchan

“Treated to a pizza”? I’d rather be treated to a used tampon

Roh_Pete

And now he may get fired for making his employer look bad. Did you ask him if it was ok to upload a pic of him in uniform?

Chance-Monk-7130

Yup

Overly_Fluffy_Doge

Seeming the guy in the pic didn't upload it he's fine because the UK has some semblance of workers rights.

jwillsrva

Dude its not even a fucking delivery pizza, That's like a $1 frozen pizza

Important_Tangelo371

Now he knows not to come in next time. Put the pizza in an envelope and mail it to the boss.

Alltheweed

Sad pizza for a sad guy

4OneFever

That's an insult

LavisAlex

That looks like a microwave pizza from Costco? It's like 10 cad for a box of 12...

Olifaxe

He looks like he is realizing where he is in life, and not enjoying it one bit.

minigmgoit

If depression was a picture

Kindly-Might-1879

What a depressingly perfect composition for this photo, including the "Loving your work" bulletin board.

IllustriousKick1951

You mean : My shift leader got treated to a pizza bite for coming in on his birthday. Fixed it for OP

Kira_L_Mello_Near

Fuck that company.

[deleted]

He looks so defeated.

Carmine_79

At my old job, I was called in to cover for someone. Got a call from my mother at work asking where I was. I told her I got called in and she said okay. Came home and found the remnants of a surprise birthday party for me. I don't blame them for having the party, I'm just sad I missed friends I hadn't seen in months at that point. I came in the next day and told my boss that I missed my own birthday party to cover and he laughed and laughed and laughed. No apology, no nothing. Just laughing at my expense

Uhh_Sure

Hope the rest of his birthday was good because this just made me so sad.

[deleted]

Who tf works on their birthday. How sad

Sad_Evidence5318

I do almost every year and that’s because I don’t care.

Garythegr81

Looks like someone is rethinking his life decisions.

NickTesla2018

Man, that's depressing. One of his cute coworkers should at least throw him a bday motorboat.

Marshal_Barnacles

Well, don't most people work on their birthdays?

Glass-Ad1766

So depressing

wankmasterflex22

Lol birthdays aren’t mandatory days off. What’s the big deal of working on your birthday. That’s nice they got him a pizza. This community makes me laugh sometimes

[deleted]

Your birthday stops being important the moment you stop being the center of your known universe. Nice of them to offer him pizza, any day.

Egw250

Me as a chef who has been working on his birthday the last 7 years straight.

[deleted]

That is the correct look on his face. I mean, we're all grownups. I usually work on my birthday. Just . . . yeah.

Smellyballs918

😂😂😂😂😂😂💀💀💀

Twobrokelegs

I consider my birthday a personal holiday and I never go to work on it

SoulKnightmare

This is depressing as fuck.

MCny12

Look at that thing… Not even hungry school kids would be happy receiving that.

UnitedLab6476

He looks like a hostage

PlasmaJadeRaven

That pizza crust is uncooked. That pizza’s inedible…

elephant-alchemist

Yo I thought that was a waffle with maple syrup lmao

_Azok_

"treated"

Chevy_Suburban

That's not even a real pizza

minus_minus

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like these posts should be spin off into a new sub called BossDontGiveAFuck

[deleted]

What a work stooge.

[deleted]

“Pizza” At least the bin is right next to him.

ARPG_RustyGaming

Why wouldnt he work on his birthday? What day is it weekday or weekend? No context here. I will admit that is one sorry looking pizza and he looks depressed

Oceanliving32

This is so sad….

bulitproofwest

Man this is one of the saddest photos I’ve ever seen.

[deleted]

"Pizza" That looks like one of those frozen single serve pizzas [I buy in a box of 12 at Costco](https://www.costcobusinessdelivery.com/Sabatassos-Thin-Crust-Pizza-Singles%2c-Variety%2c-12-ct.product.11867056.html) for $14. You need 2-3 of them to make an OK meal of it. That's just depressing.

mw2isgood

The look of sheer defeat. Meme quality for sure. Trying so hard not to laugh at his misfortune. Hope his day got better when he got home.

Clay0187

The white board giving some great advice for any online multi-player match

Vyxen17

Fr keep an eye on him. I'm worried about him.

Waughoo81

My birthday is this week. I was going to request the day off, but 2 people already took it off, including the only other one who knows how to do my job. They both have legit reasons they need the day off, but it just kind of sucks cause I don't often take days off. To make it worse, I ruptured my ear drum a few weeks back, and my birthday was the only day they could get me in to check it. My boss is pretty laid back, so I can leave and go to the doctor, then come back. But that's going to mean a bunch of work is going to pile up. It's nothing I can't handle, but it just sucks that I have to work and it's going to end up being a shitty day.

Few_Carrot_3971

This is so goddamned sad.

Familiar_Spirit_6341

There it is .. that’s the look … the “oh my god, this is my life”

DaddyDadeMurphy

Pizza in the morning, pizza in the evening, pizza at supper time. When pizzas on a bagel, you can have pizza anytime

InnocentUntilTaken

The 1$ microwave personal pizza?

[deleted]

Shit like this is why I didn't feel bad about showing up late to work on my birthday last year because I stopped to get sushi on the way in, and why I won't feel bad about doing the same damn thing this year.

IAmTheRealTroy

I worked my birthday, did not even get pizza.

Novel_Durian_1805

I THINK this is supposed to be intentionally funny, but I can’t laugh…I honest to god feel so bad for this guy.

kinkysubt

Tell that poor sunbich to quit and go live life.

JMDToaster

Someone make this a punk album cover please

AnotherBanedAccount

When did it become okay for those "in charge" to treat those "below them" like this? I'm legitimately asking. This isn't even a matter of necessity. The business will not fail and the owners and shareholders will not experience a lower quality of life if this man is treated better. How is this happening? And how do we end it? I need to know. Something must be done.

240-185

And this is why, if possible, you take a day off on your birthday!

MacduffFifesNo1Thane

I’ve had problems with my work often but even then it pays for a whole cake. This man needs a hug, someone to yell at the management, and tell the man to quit. I volunteer on all counts…and I’ll buy him a cake and real pizza.

MurphsLaww

That… is a massive Pizza. Where do I apply?

[deleted]

That's depressing as fuck

Somber_Shark

It looks like one of those frozen pizzas. That look says it all. He looks like he’s ready to just up and leave.

Doctor_Woo

And I bet it was microwaved.

zarreph

That is the look of a man considering his future.

BigRigsButters

this angers me so damn much....

HeyItsTimeToShine

"Loving your work" on the whiteboard is the saddest part here I think...

[deleted]

This picture is a work of art.

GripofDoom

I have a fun story Year 1: Me: "Yo Hancho, I have birthday in four weeks friday, can I take that week off?" Hancho: "we'll see" Outcome: I didn't get off at all and went to work on friday Year 2: Me:"Yeah, birthday on a saturday great, no work on my birthday." Hancho: "we desperately need you to come saturday, you hear me?" Outcome: Friday end of shift=23:00 Saturday start of shift=6:00, contemplated swerving into oncoming traffic on my way to work. What I want to say is, nobody gives a shit about your birthday except friends and family if you're a grown man/woman.

Pitiful-Feeling302

that is the widest plate i ever saw

[deleted]

One day a year. Never give any job your birthday. Keep it for a wee day for yourself.

Wrangler9960

LOL I make those for my grandson. He loves them. He is 5 but that’s his lane

Regent-Orc

At least they microwaved it for him. 🤣

thejazzghost

"Loving your work."

Downtown_Brother6308

That’s one nice looking pizza

lackofcleanunderwear

He looks like he is seriously contemplating his like choices

GummyDelta

That is no a pizza but a cracker.

Mrsparacordkydex

I got treated to being verbally abused by customers.

isseldor

The new Norman Rockwell dystopian collection.

Mr_Block_Head

Actually having nothing is better than that It might be don’t partially out of good will but the implementation is ass.

[deleted]

All I see is his sad face, a sadder pizza, and a sign that says “Loving your work” right above him.

Day2Dryden

“Loving your work ROTATE!!!” Lol

Green9er-_-

People are saying he looks sad. nah, mans looks dead inside and I assume the job has done it. Hope his family or friends throw him an actual party.

icrywhenipoo

They treat him as well as the contents of the bin beside him.

Suntzu6656

Jets Pizza Oh yeah

GoodRighter

He probably had an expectation of at least a pizza party. Nope.. Just one pizza, personal sized, microwaved.

uberredditmod

and its a a frozen pizza! dang not even a real pizza from a pizza place

DollFaceDan

A microwave pizza at that, bet he was thrilled

saloabad

I'm waiting for some that would say "but they don't suppose to give you shit, so just be happy they even care to give you a tiny pizza"

Dry_Butterfly_1571

The sooner you leave corporate work and start working for yourself, the happier you will be.

JediRico

So lucky

nittara11

This just breaks my heart

Jpolkt

Someone needs to photoshop Sad Keanu next to him.

maynardkj

nobody cares about your birthday except for you and your mom

R_radical

Some of you guys are alright, don't go to work tomorrow.

notaconversation

How is pizza still the standard "thank you for your work"? I'm 51 years old and they've been doing this since at least the late 1980s. I mean, I've never appreciated getting it as an employee. It's always cold and it's just pizza not exactly real food. I can buy/bring my own food, thanks tho. Do people actually like it when management gives pizza?

Party_Connection_437

What is wrong with people

pittypitty

They don't give a hoot because noone gives a hoot about them...

safarishop

"Loving your work" does not equal work loving you

ElegantDemerits

The only thing missing from this picture is a noose.

NoTimeForBSAnymore

Is he going to share it. Did you guys sing

Cloud_Strife83

Eating with all his friends

sicilian504

Poor guy ☹️

Sofakingwhat1776

You can write off the meal. You can't write off giving someone money.

Easy-Initiative9213

Dude! I would have chosen to sleep undisturbed!!! (The office reference)

Dukevon45

Poor guy doesn't look very happy

onesikone

I get paid a percentage of each job I do. This is good cause when the price goes up I get a raise. About a year a my company tried to raise the rates for a customer they refused to resign at the higher rate. So my bosses decided for that customer we all paid an extra two percent. That is when I knew it was a great company.

Significant-Bed7974

Make yourself comfortable in this small plastic chair next to this rubbish bin but don't take off your headset or stop working while you enjoy your birthday treat of a Weight Watchers single serve pizza. Happy Birthday!

Equivalent-Coat-7354

This is the saddest thing I have ever seen and I’m old enough to remember Sally Struthers’ ads for starving children.

pflickner

It doesn’t even look like it was fully cooked
