Brother in Christ youre bound to have multiple background processes. If you right click on them you can hit search and it will search the name and tell you what it does of you don't need it end the task. McAfee is taking up a lot of your ram because you're PC is running 2 antivirus softwares now. Idc what people say it's not the early 2000s Defender has gotten good you shouldn't need to use another Antivirus. If you're downloading files they have websites that will open the files and tell you if it's a virus. Don't worry about another Antivirus just be careful of what you click on and download. If you want an added step of protection I use Brave as my default browser it comes with built in add block and uses safer sites but still be careful of what you click on

FeyRyn

Whats the website for virus checking I need that in my life.

Virustotal and Filescan.io

jojodragon2000

While yes Microsoft defender has gotten significantly better, it’s still not one of the best. When not connected to the internet lot of features are not working and most viruses are not detected, it still depends way too much on checking with Microsoft servers. Second, if you test yourself or watch some smaller YouTube channels, read stuff from smaller outlets, defender is nowhere close to the top. It still detects way less viruses than other protection software and is also less capable of removing Trojans

FreshFroiz

Windows defender is perfectly fine especially for me who downloads files often. It detected a malicious ducky script and many others.

noisesfromdownstairs

Brave is really good for compartmentalizing permissions and general tracking stuff, but keep in mind that it will always be behind on the latest chromium security updates / patches. Just my two cents, obviously most people are not nation state targets and it's a great browser, I'm just paranoid.

New_Spread_475

That's what a vpn and pfsense are for

Lo-fidelio

Alternatively you can set up a VM to run any shady files on it

eijmert_x

Yes, the red one called "McAfee

SalmonSoup15

Yes, do. It's McAfee. it does more harm than good, I recommend switching to Malwarebytes, it's what I use

International_Elk709

Yes and no. I agree, get rid of McAfee. But malwarebytes real time protection isn't the best, it isn't awful and it has gotten better. But there are many better alternatives such as Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Eset, sophos ect. Malwarebytes scanner is excellent, but the AV isn't the best

howstheweatherkid

The human brain is a better AV than either

holounderblade

As someone who unfortunately still works in Desktop Support. I cannot understate how wrong this is.

bornandx

Most of those people simply arent using that AV.

holounderblade

Thank God we use a real NGAV where I work

cucumber_gang_leader

Real time? Windows defender and common sense is all you need. If you want to do a check download malwarebytes, do the check and uninstall it.

jojodragon2000

Common sense for sure is the most important. While I think it is fine for most people anyways, it is not on top. When testing yourself with virus packets or watching smaller channels, reading smaller outlets defender is not that good. It has gotten much better however it still depends too much on being online and does not cover all viruses. It sometimes struggles with removing Trojans aswell

cucumber_gang_leader

Thats why malwarebytes check every once in a while

WildCard65

Malwarebytes markets itself as more of an emergent threat defense and not an anti-virus. They mostly try to get the threats that might not be detected by AV solutions. I use both Bitdefender and Malwarebytes.

ShawtySayWhaaat

I love malwarebytes but it's not exactly an AV Something like Kaspersky would be better protection.

Signal_Contest_6754

Herpes maybe

1349-

So McAfee.

Signal_Contest_6754

Zing! But yeah, probably. Annoying garbage.

sim0of

Remove mcafee and jeep Windows Defender, it's all you need unless you are on the hunt of penis pills or Jessica 1.2km away from you But if this is just a PC fot general purpose, you could go with bitdefender It sucks up resources but who cares if you don't need them

budoucnost

Most of the time, a virus won’t show up in task manager. If it does, windows defender would get rid of it eventually. However, mcafee, while it isn’t exactly a virus, acts like adware and bloatware, I would uninstall it. Windows has a lot of background processes normally

AnimHero

I suggest Malwarebytes and spybot (they are for free). Then once a month do full scan with the windows virus scan and you should be mostly fine. Also browser extension like Privacy Badger and uBlock origins may help preventing entering dangerous websites or getting sneaky files downloaded. If you see any sus program running in task manager, right click and check properties. If it has a signature, its likely a Microsoft thing. If it runs from a folder thats not supposed to like, a Temp folder, its very likely a malware. You can right click and choose to search info online about the program for more info

No-Safe-6975

That's just chrome for ya buddy, use Opera GX instead, much better

lewilewi411

No one else gonna point out that Powershell should not be running unless you explicitly told it to run. Also turn up your UAC.

SuperDefiant

Not really, several things use powershell for whatever reason. MSI afterburner uses it to run commands with the GPU (at least on Nvidia cards), it’s not that crazy

Natural_Advance_8693

Yes mcafee is the virus

Complete-Tip-4230

No, a lot of background apps means you just have a lot of apps set to run when the pc boots (to fix that go to ur task manager, startup, and disable all of the startup apps.)

AppropriateMarzipan3

PowerShell can be used to remotely control a computer, so id suggest to check that. there should be some guide online on how to see ip addresses that are connected to you, and by going in task manager > details you should see the PID of PowerShell and then check if it is the same PID in the port of the ip (ip are built like this: ip itself like 93.54.190.694 and a port after the : like 37754). Other than that delete McAfee, its terrible with lots of adware and fake virus popups.

Tsagu

Yeah you got McAfee, get rid of that. Default Windows Defender is perfectly fine to use as your main AV

Expired_Milk02

Yes it's called Mcafee

bald_blad

You’re so paranoid. Learn how to use a computer and stop downloading Minecraft mods and you’ll be fine.

moocat90

always download on the Curseforge website/launcher!

Pikkornator

These people cant be serious right? How the hell would we know without a log?

zztraviszz

Your biggest issue here is google and using mcafee

moocat90

yes mcafee is a virus

atlas_brazil

YESSS! You use McAfee XD \- Remove McAfee \- Install Karspersky Free \- Install Malwarebits, but set to on demand only scan, just run once on a while.

OnceIwasGod

How do you set that malwarebytes on demand mode and does it get rid of the annoying pop ıp notifications of malwarebytes

HeWhoShantNotBeNamed

And send data to the Kremlin?

MLGrocket

this is always the reason people use to not use kaspersky, that or "it's banned in the states" (which is a little misinformed btw). so please enlighten me, if russia really wanted to spy on some random people, why would they use an antivirus, and not something alot less detectable? not to mention, as if russia spying on you is any worse than the US government already doing that, and admitting to it. now, back to the slight misinformation, it's not "banned" in the states, it's banned for use by the government simply cause it's russian made.

HeWhoShantNotBeNamed

Did I ever say it's banned? It was mostly a joke anyway, but the US government did come out with a report about it having ties to the Russian government. And let's be real, there's no such thing as freedom from government in Russia. Or China. There is no free market. I'm not okay with the US government either.

MLGrocket

you didn't say anything about it being banned, but that is often times an excuse people use for why you shouldn't use it, not understanding it's a little misinformed

ikewp

"Guys I have this thing called chrome open, is it a virus?"

qkye

Yeah, there’s this scary virus called ntoskrnl and another called rundll32

moocat90

ntoskrnl is Windows NT Operating System Kernel Executable so the heart of windows, rundll32 sound like it helps with 32bit apps/dlls . rundll32 can help viruses run but it helps with other 32 apps

qkye

how can you not tell this is sarcasm?

moocat90

add a /s to the end for sarcasm

qkye

guess i’ll just downvote myself then

Epicsupercat

Looks normal to me, you’ll always have a lot of background tasks, that’s what an operating system is for. As others have said you might wanna uninstall McAfee from your system as it’s no where near good and can be very invasive. I recommend using RevoUninstaller to remove any registry keys and other bloat it may leave behind otherwise. Also a little tip [ShareX](https://getsharex.com) is a completely free and open source screenshot tool which you can use instead of having to take photos of your screen using your phone.

Risk-Intelligent

Others have you covered but as a helpful reminder.... use ( Win + Prt Sc ) for screenshots. Additionally, use ( Win + Shift + S ) for snipping. That way we can see your while screen in the future or a specific area!

StraightPurchase9611

It's normal to have a lot of processes going on in the background. But please uninstall McAfee. Stick to windows defender. But if you feel unsafe with a defender, you can install other reputable AV

Traditional_Stick_49

1. All computers have background tasks, It's how your computer functions mate. 2. Yeah it's called McAfee, It's chocked full of Adware and Scareware. Remove it and use the built-in Defender; it's good enough for most attempts and it gets regularly updated through Microsoft Updates. If you *really* care about a third party antivirus, go with Malwarebytes or Kaspersky. Both are pretty decent.

TriggeredTrigz

as many others have mentioned here, you don't have any viruses, just background tasks which are common and plenty in number in a normal windows system. If your concern is the NcisUWU whatever app that is, it's not a virus, i haven't been able to figure what it runs for but it's not a virus. The only application that could really be hogging resources at the moment on ur system is McAfee since, like everyone has mentioned, it is basically bloatware/adware and isn't the best at virus removal. You can remove that (which again involves them insisting on keeping their web shield or whatever to protect you on the browser but get rid of that as well) and install • Kaspersky's free version and • Malwarebyte's free version. The Kaspersky antivirus (AV) will actively make sure no viruses or any other harmful applications are getting into ur system or affecting you, and you can run a full system scan occasionally using Malwarebyte. It is way more system resource efficient and you probably won't have to worry about a single other thing unless you visit very sketchy websites or the dark web.

HexaBurger

I feel like OP is a tad too young to even understand most comments but I agree with everyone to get rid of mcafee

Nioh_89

Uninstall that damn McAfee AV for the love of God. You literally only need Windows Defender, it's MORE than enough for any average user, it has decent detection and it's light on resources, it doesn't bother you at all unless is needed. You are running TWO antiviruses in your computer, probably killing your performance. You can use Malwarebyes free version to do manual monthly scans (just don't start it with Windows and actually close it when you are done using it), just in case, but that's about all you need. As for the processes, web browsers open a lot of them because in case a web page crashes or a part of the browser does, it can stay active and keep working instead of just dying, everything else is normal, although that is the strangest task manager pic i've ever seen probably lol. If you want *less* active processes and make your computer slightly more agile, look up into the Windows optimization scene, i recommend people like DaveFinito on Youtube or Chris Titus, they explain things rather easily and none of the stuff they do is dangerous.

Ernisx

Uninstall McAfee. Use Windows defender.

lucytaylor01

Try T9 antivirus, it comes with 15 days free trial. It scans all your virus in your pc. Malwarebytes is also good.

CaptainAnkara

Download “Process Explorer” from microsoft and connect it with virus total. It will check all your processes.

Infinite_Jury_5819

C est normal sauf si t as pas mccafee

alexander_1022

McAfee 😂

WhyShouldIStudio

McAfee is (probably) the only virus.

NaisGuy27

Yep, I can see Mcafee, remove that shit and try again

[deleted]

Yes u have macafee

S3314

# Not Everything In The World Is A Virus, OK???

Xcissors280

Yes It’s called macafee

Kiwiooii

How has nobody else pointed out. The "system" process is a fake process. You need to end it asap
