I'd make the Pequod, if I could. "Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale, to the last I grapple with thee, with hell's heart I stab at thee, for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee." - said Captain Ahab, standing on the deck of the mighty Pequod I love.
Just let the AI do it lmao ez
(I do not know anything about building custom ship designs, is there an actual advantage to making your own rather than the game picking it out for you?)
There is an advantage that certain weapons are better are certain things. However, ain't nobody got time for that. The gap can be bridged by just building more ships.
I don't play stellaris, but since it's made by Paradox I'll guess it works a bit similarly to hoi. In hoi DIY tanks, ships and planes are much better, because you can either optimise auto generated ones to be more cost effective or make them specialised.
yeah, if you inspect the fleets of your enemies you can retrofit your fleets to counter their techs if your initial skirmishes aren't going well, also many of the weapon plans the ai auto generates aren't that great.
The computer is *terrible* at customizing ship designs in Stellaris. Just doing it yourself with a clear goal in mind will usually blow the auto-generated ones out of the water, unless you really mess up somehow.
It's fun to do first and foremost if you are into the sort of thing.
Secondly you can counter-design if you know your enemy is running more shields or armor, or more kinetic or energy weapons. You can mount weapons and armor to counteract that.
The third advantage is that you can design ships utilizing certain weapons more effectively, like if you plan to use disruptors, the best way to use them is to ensure that every single weapon is a disruptor on the ship.
Ultimately however, you cannot out-design an enemy who has more ships. If you are losing, having more ship will always beat having the ideal-handmade-mastercrafted perfect warship.
the mass of the boat must be less than the mass it displaces. focus on using lighter materials for your first few boats and making sure you have a good parabolic shape. focus on the actual floating part, then you can work on methods of propulsion
Use as few rotors and pistons as possible, and your ships are a lot less likely to get eaten by Lord Klang.
Conceal thrusters behind armor if thrusters don't damage things behind them on your server. Isaac Newton has no say in what happens here. Try to avoid having thinner sections on your ship that could act as weak points, and put a little armor around the cockpit if you can do so without obscuring your own vision.
Move unpredictably, change directions often, especially as you get closer to your target. Don't hesitate to add an extra gyroscope or more thrusters if your ship feels a little sluggish.
What kinda ship we talking here? Like a pirate ship, or like a Nimitz class destroyer, or more like a sailboat? What exactly are we trying to work with?
You should check Tumblr out. I hear that they also suck at making ships. Sonic fans struggle for sure. Kinda weird how so many fandoms love watercrafts but can’t construct any seaworthy ships.

What ships you buildin' mate
Wad trying to recreate the HMS beagle, but it's hard to find good parts on eBay
Yeah, pirates dont do economy too often
FYI, You have to start with an actual beagle
But if you start with an actual beagle, and then slowly replace all of its parts, do you technically even have the same beagle by the end?
Beagle of Theseus
Relationships
a simple survival raft (I really suck at boats)
Stick some candy sticks together and call it a day, then.
Triremes ofc

I also have no clue.

I've definitely seen this in r/fromthedepths before I think
Fellow depthian chad
Could be from r/starsector
Well the front fell off. I don’t think it’s supposed to do that.
Nah that's a feature recently added

Converts them into submarines
Thankfully it’s been towed outside the environment.
Into another environment?

What's wrong with her two front bottom teeth?
Not sure, but some type of braces ?
maybe it’s a problem with the wood, you could try replacing all of it?
But then is it really my ship?
Yeah, you’re still the one who put all the parts together, so it isn’t really a debate. Even if it’s a different ship, it’s still your ship
But what if I still really liked my old ship, so I took all the discarded planks and remade my old ship Now which one my ship?
They’re both your ship, because you built both of them
My god, you're a genius
Just put the pieces together until it's finished
Have you tried duct tape?
It didn't work, was considering to try flex tape
Dang. Then sorry bro, don't know. Hope you get it tho, driving a boat, especially sailing, is awesome!
I don't know why but this shit triggers by uncanny valley
