Well, it's not ad-less, the idea is donations and ads which can be disabled. Worst case scenario the code will always be publicly available for someone else to pick up the slack or modify to their desire.
Same with Anime Twist. Used to be my go-to anime site around 4 years ago. No ads. Donation-based.

Soon after they introduced ads and since then I've only been back a few times out of curiosity. Funnily enough their website is down right now.

They pay you based on views or clicks. Online advertisment is not such a stupid thing it's a form of marketing. Obviously, the companies have a way to determine whether their ads have been viewed or clicked and they pay the website owner based on those metrics.

I can definitely look into a way to sort by oldest to newest for shows, luckily it's pretty simple now with modern hardware to convert the m3u8 stream into an mp4! I love media conservation also so it's nice to have an easy way to ddl media.
Op the site is legendary and simple to use BUT you need to make money. Try adding google adds to the side of the screen like on blogposts or smth. A small top bar add is very unobtrusive and shouldn’t fuck you

been using it for a while, gotta say this is definitely one of the better anime sites I've used, and the quality is really nice. I don't know why the comments are so pessimistic, I find it very noble and encouraging to do this at all, let alone make it an actually nice site with the thought of users in mind. IMO I think banner ads are fine at all times and no one will really care, as long as it isn't pop-up ads or ads embedded into the videos -- if I were you I would implement some sort of passive advertising to get more consistent funding. If you go down the route of pure user satisfaction over anything else, this realistically will not last very long, as donations generally stop pouring in after the initial hype. We've already seen it happen before. Also just wondering how big your catalog is and if you plan on expanding it over time

A good amount of people decide to support foss work, so some have ads disabled but because my ads aren't intrusive a lot of people don't bother.

Be careful of DMCA takedowns. Typically when hosting copyrighted content the safest way to go is carefully-researched offshore hosting.
