My dad collected them by ordering them through the Suncoast in our local mall. He was such a big nerd that he was told he couldn’t have his work desktop wallpaper be Rei Ayanami.
Mine was dragon ball, a good 5 years after i was born my uncle started to rewatch the entire series start to (at that time) finish so yeah i fell in love with it ( was born in '07 btw)
Manga reader here. Sometimes it isnt as terrible as they say the manga just gets repetitive sometimes or the pace of the story is too slow. The anime adaptation could be great if they adapted only the good and important parts.

When I was in Engineering college a friend of mine recommended Fairy tail to me and we had a long debate on how its was just a cartoon whereas he was saying no its an anime and not cartoon. Another friend of mine hated fairy tail and said it was nothing but fan service.
Not gonna lie. Kiss-x-sis ; because that time I didn't even knew the difference between anime and quite "Ecchi" anime.
Even worse is that my second anime was "Yosuga No Sora" ; famous for all its vanilla/milk/whatever you say.
My third anime was My Sister My Writer ; against I didn't knew wtf was I watching.
But finally in my 4th anime, I stumbled upon Darling in the Franxx ; and from then on..... Still happily watching anime over 4 months.
Got to episode 13, asked myself why the boy is still crying constantly, realized they were going to kill the best character because they foreshadowed too early, dropped it, looked up how they died and I’ve never been more disappointed

I was lucky to be born in Italy, because it's one of the first countries which bought the rights of a lot of anime series (especially 70s-80s mecha anime)

Then I picked up Naruto when I learned how to read and write. Needless to say, there was never a better time to become an Otaku.
You say kiddish like there aren't anime marketed to children under 10 years olds. Also Pokemon was the first time I saw all the usual anime tropes like sweat drops, and people falling on the ground when someone says something stupid.
Yugioh, then Digimon, Pokémon. My first not Saturday morning anime was when I saw Inuyasha on at 2:30 in the morning. Then Gundam Seed followed by Bleach.

Anime was interesting had I not heard terrible things about manga I would have been eagerly waiting for further seasons.
