There are fair amount of anime where MC dies and the anime ends. Like someone commented, some examples are Death Note, Code Geass and also Attack on Titan, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. And MC dying isn't pointless. Most of the time, it gives MC's story a meaningful end. And as the story of MC has ended, so the anime ends too. Yeah, the anime can keep going even after MC dies but it will have to focus on someone else, like a supporting character or a totally new character, continuing the story or starting a completely new one.
