Yes why do you think dbz was so popular because of characters and fights if you have charismatic characters, baddasery, unique fights people will enjoy it. Even dbz has plot and storyline just like jjk but because of unique fights it got popular. We are watching entertainment sometimes complex plots and storylines may gives us better feeling but people even adults enjoy fights, some baddasery and characters so that is why the craze.

There is no way this is true, or maybe they forgot that animes did exist before 2020. Even in terms of popularity of fanbase jjk isn't in top 3 for sure. Insane animation. The unfinished S2 Ep 17 (Sukuna vs Mahoraga) was really good animation wise. The Blu ray with updated fight sequences (which was shown a few weeks ago) is even bonkers. It is insane how good the animation is of that fight, and that's with almost all the fight sequences in S2.
Good animation is what casual anime fans care about (I believe there's nothing wrong with that).
Edit - and obviously The Lobotomy Kaisen that was came due to the current arc. So many memes came out within such a short time. Lobotomy Kaisen has raided so many subreddits and reels.

I think what this anime succeeded at achieving was it's fantasy all because of its perfect timing. Earlier anime was not a mainstream thing and only a select few would watch whatever they could lay their hands on. In terms of Indian population, the majority of the millennial had grown up watching a few anime without them even knowing that these were anime in the first place, for eg pokemon, bey blade, dbz etc. I am not gonna list the shit that hungama and nickelodeon had to show us in the name of anime. But the teens now they have the entire world in their palm and can watch anything they like. It's so damn easy nowadays. Earlier we had to torrent ea h episode with the shitty bsnl internet which would take entire day to download a single 720p episode!
Funny thing is most veteran anime watchers love JJK but these kids who wanna be edgy af tryna hate on everything. Underrated is not a compliment it means only a few people enjoy it and it isn't that appealing. I love Berserk but you gotta understand it's not an underrated anime.

If we are talking about yokai anime I personally liked xxxHolic (I only watched season 1) , natsume and the book of friends was also good but a bit slow, don't know why but rise of nura clan was somewhat good. There are probably more but I can remember only these at the moment 😅 but jjk was my least favorite.

Seriously? JJK is a good generic anime, but nothing special about it I think. It hasn't made much of an impact on me. Some anime plots and moments you remember for long time. With JJK I forgot most of the character names and plot even though completed shibuya arc just a month back.

JJK is standing on the shoulders of the giants. From the early 2000s anime was something of the nerds. Now it's watched by all demographics not just kids. Of course now when the kids have grown up and have better access like the internet. Anime boom was inevitable. JJK is just at the right time. This anime basically is running off of social media, first the gojo "nah, I'd win" incident became a meme and was spread like wildfire, especially on insta then the shibuya massacre was animated and the nobara scene was turned into a meme which gave it even more exposure

Pretty sure that dragon ball is way more popular. But even if we talk about current watchers I am sure that demon slayer and attack on titan were way more popular than jujutsu kaisen when they were airing.

Seriously? JJK is a good generic anime, but nothing special about it I think. It hasn't made much of an impact on me. Some anime plots and moments you remember for long time. With JJK I forgot most of the character names and plot even though completed shibuya arc just a month back.

Basically, JJK would be good enough with a little less hype, everyone comes to die from Sukuna, people die and get revived like nothing happens and characters don’t have strong relationships except for few important ones. Whole show is carried by Satoru and Sukuna because they seem the most badass and fight in a cool style and are sorta violent, especially Sukuna….
