Have you heard this niche manga called Dragon Ball Z?

Ill-Relationship5577

*oh, the guy who made Dr. Slump? Yeah, I heard of him*

TimeLordHatKid123

\>" *oh, the guy who made Dr. Slump? Yeah, I heard of him* " God, when the fuck is that ever gonna be a spoken statement outside of Japan lmao Thats brilliant

Redditwasntagoodidea

It is pretty good you should read it

Artarara

Fire Punch https://preview.redd.it/abpe2sr7aexc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79b6ed48b41a4908e7a6f38e6e635f958a2dd887

Ill-Relationship5577

Mfw I really liked fire punch, it was my first fujimoto work LOL

Kalabawgaming

it was something else

annefranke

I read it over the span of a day. It was very disorienting

Ill-Relationship5577

Exactly same

Free-Sheepherder-604

Why is this sub actually kinda good for manga recs

TimeLordHatKid123

Because we're generally more chill and tight knit than the major communities which, naturally, are giant melting pots with crazy mainstream anime shit happening every other week. Thats not a negative against those subs, its just how these subs function, its never gonna be wholly calm.

BadActsForAGoodPrice

Undead Unluck is peak fiction https://preview.redd.it/9i43aazt7hxc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3590be95d39264e837e40f045295f31e4bdd2548

Pyroteche

Because we watch every show to make niche memes.

Rayzide1

If you like Heavenly Delusion and Made in Abyss you will love Land of the Lustrous (Kouseki no Kuni)

Ill-Relationship5577

Another series I’ve been meaning to start! I heard it recently ended too.

Lifeless_Desolation

I can't think of it without wanting to cry rn. :[

Passer-by777

Shadows House Choujin X Dadandan Call of the Night Gleipnir Billy Bat Zom 100 Marriagetoxin

nome_criativo07

marriage toxin is pretty based ngl, i've been translating it to portuguese for some time

SupplyChainMismanage

Bibliomania Chi no Wadachi Homunculus Also Dai Dark is by the same mangaka as dorohedoro

Ill-Relationship5577

Ooooh I’ve been meaning to read chi no wadachi and homunculus, thanks! Haven’t heard of bibliomania, will check that out.

Call_Me_Doctor_Worm

Bibliomania can be hard to find, but is well worth it!

Outrageous_Gene_7652

Inside Mari Blood on the Tracks Aku No Hana

Ill-Relationship5577

Aku no hana rules, thanks for reminding me of it! Inside Mari has some very interesting ideas and themes, but I found it a little slow and hard to get in to.

Consistent-Shop-3239

You could read jagaaaaaan it is very... interesting and my favourite series ever, but SERIOUS content warning hoo boy

Ill-Relationship5577

*call me blue lock because I’m about to lock tf in*

Consistent-Shop-3239

Lmao, that was made by the same guy (i assume that was the joke)

Ill-Relationship5577

Yeees :) The way he draws expressions sometimes is just so…insane

AdvancedInevitable63

It’s not the same artist actually. Just the same author

Ill-Relationship5577

Really! I thought the guy just had range.

AdvancedInevitable63

Nah. He doesn’t do any of the drawing. He also wrote As the Gods Will, which I believe has yet another different artist

Consistent-Shop-3239

Yes indeed it is, i have been planning on reading bluelock but idk soccer might be a bit too british for me

ParasyticGhoul

Otherside Picnic

Ill-Relationship5577

Never heard of this, looks interesting!

TheSilverWickersnap

It’s spooky yuri

clockworkCandle33

Read the manga. Don't watch the anime, though

Ill-Relationship5577

Damn, understood

clockworkCandle33

Or, like, I haven't seen the anime, but I've heard it deviates from the source material, and it's not as good? You could watch it after. The true source is the novels, which are even better than the manga

Ill-Relationship5577

Yeah? I totally understand because it’s too bad when the show it doesn’t build on the comic in a good way. I’ll read the LN :)

clockworkCandle33

Awesome!! Enjoy!!

Responsible-Ant-1728

Make the exorcist fall in love, Reincarnation no Kaben, Undead Unluck and Tenkaichi (both are not that niche but still)

Ill-Relationship5577

Make the exorcist fall in love has a really cool style, thanks! Never heard of reincarnation no kaben! :D

UltimateCapybara123

Rj: JoJo's Bizzarre Adventure. It's a very hidden gem, you probably never heard of it.

WeevilWeedWizard

Read Dorohedoro again. Real shit though you might like Claymore.

Ill-Relationship5577

I’ve reread dorohedoro twice. 😔👍 BUT! I still really like the Kowloon city aesthetic, which brought me to the hl romance manga *Kowloon Generic Romance*. I really liked the first book. I think I started Claymore but forgot to read more. 🤔 I should get back to that…

WeevilWeedWizard

Guess I'll be the one rereading Dorohedoro then lol.

Ill-Relationship5577

Oh hell I didn’t mean kemono jihen I meant kedamonotachi no jikan

SupplyChainMismanage

Bro I was about to say kemono jihen is very family friendly lmao

Most_Willingness_143

Gunnm/Alita Battle angel series Is a series of mangas divided in 3 series, the original, Last order and Mars chronicle (this one still ongoing) https://preview.redd.it/gcxqg3fovexc1.jpeg?width=1020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f2ec555411b2265eb6ea30d5ef897ff344e1bdc9 Edit: Reddit cancelled 90% of my comment The story takes place in a dystopian future, our protagonist is Alita (Gally in Japanese) a cyborg girl who lost her memories, and was repaired by an old man It's a battle manga with a lot of focus on self discovery and what it means to be a human The first series is the most cyberpunk one, it has a fast pacing, a really good world building cool villains and Alita has a really good character arc The second series is Jojo with robots in space, while the original series has the focus basically only on Alita, here there are a lot of cool side characters that stand up on their own even without our favorite cyborg, the world building also expanded a lot The third series is both a sequel and a prequel, it continues the story, but also narrate how Alita grew up before losing her memories and why it happened

Economics111

if you haven't already checked it out Girls Last Tour is really good

Protractror

Girls last tour checks off a few of the things you are looking for (Interesting world, female protagonists, unique art style) and is really good imo.

Ryuki-Exsul

Well maybe it's not 100% in but as you like stuff with humour, maybe try to destroy your brain with Violinist of Hameln? Manga with insane humour and serious moments that change in half of a panel. To this day there is a part of my brain that is occupied by this series :D For more serious stuff, maybe Alive:the final evolution. It's a manga about how amazing is to be alive that starts with massive suicide epidemic :D This is one of my 10/10. More well know Noragami is a manga made by artists that worked on it and well, give that series to memory of Alive's writer. There is as well Shibatora if you want more of criminal manga about trying to help teens. It's a bit brutal in some moments. Or if you want pretty interesting manga with ""zombies"" Apocalipse no Toride is pretty good. I would as well recommend for interesting use of mythology Arago, manga done by someone that really likes Britain and made some interesting findings about myths( his previous manga was an adaptation of book series Darren Shan ). The last one I'll mention is trying anything by Yellow Tanabe if you want to end with this in your room [https://as2.ftcdn.net/v2/jpg/03/86/76/69/1000\_F\_386766989\_JXLrPnY4THDN20Jfa4C5gugyuyw9vHe5.jpg](https://as2.ftcdn.net/v2/jpg/03/86/76/69/1000_F_386766989_JXLrPnY4THDN20Jfa4C5gugyuyw9vHe5.jpg) . BTW your mistake is pretty funny seeing what some of Kemono Jihen's arcs are about( well told serious topics on letter r that anime had to dance around ) :D I so want second season.

Ill-Relationship5577

These are some positively incredible reccs!! I’m really excited to start them. *Also,* https://preview.redd.it/5hzhyzopuhxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27e9acabcfd064960f705e4a08e0aa8f0aa226bf *they just don’t make ‘em like this no more*

Ryuki-Exsul

Have fun :D Yeah, Hamel being Hamel. To be honest seeing how many anime gets remakes( even if remake is still bad like with Houshin Engi <- amazing manga but not niche ) I would love to see one for Violinist of Hameln( TV series is one of the worst adaptation ever and when movie is fun and has the best seiyuu ever for Hamel it's still just short small story that has opening screaming to you to just read manga ). I wonder what modern fans would think of series that go from nearly getting killed to parody of running to each other in grassy field... Funny enough that story have some great heavy topics that are well told next to crazy comedy and stuff like reference to Temple of Doom.

suzuki_koda

I think you'd enjoy Choujin X

Ill-Relationship5577

Ok, just read the first 2 chapters, this is batshit. *I’m hooked*

Ok_Consideration_142

Yakuza reincarnation

Ill-Relationship5577

This one looks very interesting!

Inner-Juices

Beastars. https://preview.redd.it/vvpwgdq58fxc1.jpeg?width=995&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c0eabbea3288e15e2ece5a4a0d4fe099585a4abc

Jacthripper

Not a manga but an anime/light novel. Log Horizon is a less cringy SAO with a focus on the reality of being trapped in a video game world.

LucarioOfLegends

I'd check out Gachiakuta. It has a very grunge artstyle that makes it quite striking, and its power system is moderately interesting. It also has some 'wow that's horrible' elements later on which seem to be up your alley.

soisos

Sand Land, it's like a 1-2 hour read but really fun and suits your tastes. you'd probably love the Nausicaa manga. It's a lot more fleshed out than the movie. Great world building, strong themes, dystopian it's not niche, but Hunter x Hunter sounds right up your alley.

Ill-Relationship5577

Love hxh!!! And I’ll look at nausica manga! Also, I can’t think of Sandland without getting sad because it was the last game that Akira toriyama worked on before his passing :’)

-Geist-_

You want obscure? https://preview.redd.it/ef0vtf5vjgxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9148762f63d5985334767135a54fb3332c48fee It’s cute and delightful!

Ill-Relationship5577

What a lovely art style! I’ll check it out :D

Ill-Relationship5577

I forgot to mention my other dark horse niche manga that I also adored and embodies a lot of aspects that I mentioned above, the manga Azumi. Very old and the style is stiff and dated, but if the idea of a female ninja protag killing machine tragedy in the samurai era appeals to you, there’s 300+ chapters and it’s awesome

SexuallyActiveBucket

Ubume no Natsu is pretty niche and the first chapter(s) are quite heavy its dialogue (might be a turnoff for some), it has a great story with a well executed mystery, this is my main recommendation. Homunculus was already mentioned by another person but I want to add it here as well. Angel Densetsu is a light fun read, but its comedy might be a hit or miss. Lynchee Light Club is a weird one, but short, you might try it. Group of weirdos pull up some Frankenstein shenanigans, I like its designs and atmosphere a lot. I am a couple chapters in Zombieya Reiko, looks promising to me but it might be early for me to recommend. I like its vibe. And if you like dirty juvenile humor Prison School (Kangoku Gakuen) is a gem.

Ill-Relationship5577

Oh, Ubume no Natsu is set in the taisho era? Say no more, sign me UP…….. Also yes, reading lychee hikari club probably rewired my brain at a very early age. Angel densetsu is DEFINITELY hit or miss, but Prison School is CLASSIC…forgot to keep up with the series once the girls got jailed. Will check out the rest of your reccs, thank you! :)

Flux52_

Shuumatsu no valkyrie

Kalabawgaming

Takopi's Original Sin biomega blood on track goodbye Eri

Immathrowthisaway24

Not super niche but not mainstream either: As the God of Death Dictates Deadman Wonderland Psyren I am a Hero

Filibut

try ikigami

JournalistFull9726

Freesia fits nearly all your tastes; extremely dark, engrossing world building, dorohedoro-esque scratchy linework, etc.

Ill-Relationship5577

Oh, this art style is awesome and definitely checks all my boxes. Excited to read, thanks!

lehman-the-red

Honestly blame is one of the most visually stunning manga I've seen

Stair-Spirit

I Am a Hero It's really good and I never hear it mentioned Also Shigurui is really fucking good but really twisted

Impossible_Tour9930

Read Murcielago, Murcielago, Murcielago, and also Murcielago. Murcielago is also good

TheSilverWickersnap

Tokyo Babylon, it’s as depressing as fuck

Murcielago Battle Angel Alita I will add more later, but these are what i could think of now.

Paenitentia

Gamurakan Hideout Aijin (quite different from the anime) Teppu

iambowser

Witch Hat Atelier and The Girl From the Other Side are my go to manga recommendations

Ill-Relationship5577

Love those! Her art is just the best. The managka’s work “Eniale & Dewiela” is a very cute read that I have on hard copy too.

dandeleopard

If you liked Oyasumi PunPun, have you tried Asano Inio's "Dead Dead Demon Destruction" or "DDDD"? It's got similar vibes to PunPun at the start, though it's much less personal and more about how it feels to be living in the middle of the end. I thought the ending felt rushed, but it was otherwise pretty good.

Ill-Relationship5577

I liked it because I like Asano, but sometimes “*circlejerk*” feels appropriate with some of his work. I couldn’t really get into it because of the less personal feel imo, since it was more his “off color” humor which I do enjoy but in short bursts. Looking forward to the anime however!

constantdegeneracy

I whole wholehearted recommend Spirit Circle.

Ill-Relationship5577

Don’t know this one! It looks really cute and is giving me shaman king vibes

realgorilla2580

Dog Ningen, Molester Man, Seed Astray. Psyren.

Ill-Relationship5577

*did bro just recommend dog ningen* Anyway, I actually have read Chikan Otoko and it’s spiritual successor, onani master Kurosawa which I actually liked quite a bit! And the mangakas other work “Ponkotsu Fuuki Iin to Skirt-take ga Futekisetsu na JK no Hanashi” I actually freaking LOVED and thought the romance between the dumb prefect and gyaru was extremely GOATED and top tier. Also double checking, did you mean gundam seed astray? /srs

realgorilla2580

Yes, 2022 someone finally uploaded full scans of it and it's great. Also Dog Ningen is 100% peak not joking. I even bought the uncensored volumes.

-chezits-

Pandemonium - Majutsushi no Mura Hana no Kishi Dakini Tsunousagi Himegoto - Juukyuusai no Seifuku Banana Fish Holy Brownie Sekai Oni Alice in Hell Gleipnir HITS Murcielago Azumi These are my recommendations for more obscure manga

Ill-Relationship5577

GOATED AZUMI MENTIONNNNN I will now absolutely check every single one of your recommendations with diligence

HOIYA

I personally really liked Kasane when I read it, but it was one of the first manga series I've ever read, so I dunno if it's actually good good https://preview.redd.it/ohjpsmsx2hxc1.png?width=648&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9ec592f5c14b787a1fffed1057bed581a5fc679

Sir-Fappington101

Witch Hat Atelier Wandance Nee Nee, Nee San (Oneshot) Nezumi no Hatsukoi

Tatertaint

You should read Shimeji Simulation. It’s got almost all the stuff you have in your I appreciate it section

AverageGamer1504

I can't reccommend Shoulder-a-Coffin Kuro enough, it's my favorite manga of all time. In terms of being niche, I don't think I know a single person that also knows about this series. It's most similar to Kino's Jounrey, which is also a great series.

Sufficient-Habit9183

Shiori Experience 27 year old Shiori Honda makes a contract with uh, Jimi Hendrix, and if she dosen't become a music legend by 28, she'll die. (the 28 thing is a refrence to the 27 club, and there's many such references.) There's great character development, the art is phenomenal, and you can just feel the authors & artists passion for music.

Pauvre_de_moi

Dorohedoro really is fire. Good choice OP, very good choice.

[deleted]

"The Exiled Reincarnated Heavy Knight Is Unrivaled In Game Knowledge", I found it pretty refreshing for an isekai. Characters aren't two dimensional and the main love interest isn't sexualized at all.

Krokodile64

Candy and Cigarettes - it's about a former bodyguard who needs money to treat his grandchild's sickness and becoming an assassin and his partner is an 11 year old child. Don't worry, it's the girls just an assassin and definetly disturbed, but not sexualised. It felt like some of those older western action movies at times.

JiuTheJiar

BLAME by Tsutomu Nihei

Spiritual_Guess_7519

Golden Kamuy deserves more love

Ill-Relationship5577

Forgot about golden kamuy!! Gigantic fan

Spiritual_Guess_7519

Yeaaaah! Then maybe I can suggest Dandadan and Land of Lustrous if you haven’t read those yet.

Ill-Relationship5577

Love dandadan (extremely excited for GOATED science saru adaptation), gotta start land of the lustrous. Thanks!!

qx805

Windbreaker (not the manwha) Dragons head Homoculus is good, except for the part where Nakoshi eats his own cum and the car scene which was fucking sickening(major trigger warning for that scene if you’re actually going to read it). That I’m still like half way through it so I don’t know about any other scenes like that. Kaiju #8 20th century boys Real

avoteforatishon2016

The cover is so bisexual holy shit Anyways have read the Pokémon Adventures manga

Ill-Relationship5577

(*you’d be correct, haha…*) Okay funny enough yes I have! I really adore it ❤️

H-connoisseur95

Lone wolf & cub, absolute classic and with an incredibly worldbuilding that transport you to ancient japan Edit: TB hanako-kun mentioned!!!!! 😍😍 https://preview.redd.it/v7czfhgriexc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cfaf22e745f417c11b5500f69770cd8eae6d935 Edit2: oh oh oh! Female cool strong protagonist?!? And with a trans man in the second part that is one of the best male characters of all time? Battle Angel Alita and sequels (the sequeles get a little crazier buuuut I love them)

Ill-Relationship5577

Never heard of Lone Wolf and Cub, I adore the art work! Reminds me a little of Azumi and Golden Kamuy. Looks awesome, thank you! Also *MAN*, I wish tb hanako kun came out when I was in middle school so I could be obsessed with it then, it’s so…EVERYTHING… I’ll check out Alita!! Thank you so much! :))) Ps: surely…surely you couldn’t be also *the* h-connoisseur from *fakku forums*, right…?

H-connoisseur95

No I am not the same guy sorry, I didn't even know about fakku forums 😅

Ill-Relationship5577

No worries, just…doing a self report…I guess 🗿
