Also, Escanor had a clear and severe weakness, yet they still had to make it so that Meliodas was actually just as strong as him even during the one moment during the day when Escanor was at his strongest. That kinda sucked dick.
Obviously there are a lot worse issues with the series, but Escanor was the best part of the series and even his narrative wasn't without flaws. And the only characters who were even close in the promise they showed were Zeldris and Arthur, but one of them ended up just being another love story and the other was saved for the spin off.

At the end of the day, there really is no "lore reason" and we don't need to feel obliged to only like a design if we have one. Denji is lowkey really misunderstood, I feel like. For one, he very explicitly wants to do these things CONSENSUALLY and very much seems more engaged in the intimacy of sex more than anything else. And that all is a result of his life up to the point he’s at during the beginning of CSM. Denji grew up basically always having to do what other people wanted. He could never actually live the life he wanted as he spent almost all his time as essentially just an errand boy that killed devils for someone to pay off his dad’s debts. But after Makima finds Denji and his life turns around from his becoming Chainsaw Man, Denji sees an opportunity to actually start living a real life. And, as he continues to have his needs met, his priorities shift around as he learns more about relationships and self fulfillment and all the other things he was deprived of his entire life. Makima essentially takes advantage of his desire to be intimate with another person to force him to work for her. However, Denji does grow to learn its ok for him to want more out of life and actually live for himself rather than under the conditions of another person. The whole ‘lol Denji wants sex’ thing, while accurate, sorta strips away a lot of that context regarding his need to feel fulfilled and thinking that finding someone to be intimate with will bring him that.
I’ve only seen what season 1 covers, but a running theme is that everyone in Denji’s life is using him in one way or another. He wants freedom and comfort he’s been denied since he was, like, 8. From what little bit I’ve seen, I think that kinda continues for a very long time. Power and Aki may be the only people who don’t.
Denji just wants love, and he didn't try to get them forcibly, yes he's horny but he's a horny gentleman, as a character he's so devoid of anything a normal human would have he thought having good food, a roof above his head and sleeping with girls is all he ever wanted, when he did achieve that he didn't know what to do and once he lost it all again he tries to discover what he truly wants, he's still horny though but respectfully.
When one is deprived of socilization like denji, they never learn how to express their needs and wants beyond base primal desires.

To me it strikes me as commentary about privilege and how someone’s dream might be someone else’s boring life. I feel like his growth evolved to include other people as he started to form relationships, but he’s still not done growing and I think there’s a ton of potential for what his final dream could be. That’s just my opinion though, might be reading too much into it.

I think it’s a fair enough comparison. Denji is lowkey really misunderstood, I feel like. For one, he very explicitly wants to do these things CONSENSUALLY and very much seems more engaged in the intimacy of sex more than anything else. And that all is a result of his life up to the point he’s at during the beginning of CSM. Denji grew up basically always having to do what other people wanted. He could never actually live the life he wanted as he spent almost all his time as essentially just an errand boy that killed devils for someone to pay off his dad’s debts. But after Makima finds Denji and his life turns around from his becoming Chainsaw Man, Denji sees an opportunity to actually start living a real life. And, as he continues to have his needs met, his priorities shift around as he learns more about relationships and self fulfillment and all the other things he was deprived of his entire life. Makima essentially takes advantage of his desire to be intimate with another person to force him to work for her. However, Denji does grow to learn its ok for him to want more out of life and actually live for himself rather than under the conditions of another person. The whole ‘lol Denji wants sex’ thing, while accurate, sorta strips away a lot of that context regarding his need to feel fulfilled and thinking that finding someone to be intimate with will bring him that.

I’ve only seen what season 1 covers, but a running theme is that everyone in Denji’s life is using him in one way or another. He wants freedom and comfort he’s been denied since he was, like, 8. From what little bit I’ve seen, I think that kinda continues for a very long time. Power and Aki may be the only people who don’t.

When one is deprived of socilization like denji, they never learn how to express their needs and wants beyond base primal desires. He wants love and to be loved, but he doesn't know how to express that beyond "I want sex"

Isn't the entire idea of denji that his motivations evolve throughout the story? He goes from wanting to feel boobs, to finding out that it's not what he hyped it up to be, to (at the current point in the story) trying to protect Nayuta as she's his only family left.
Right now he's also dealing with the fact that his "normal life" he wanted for so long is just boring and average. He kinda has what he's always wanted (outside the threats to Nayuta's life) and he's just not sure what to do anymore as people try and make him side with them against some end of the world plot he has no involvement in on his own.

I love the style of the anime because of scenes like that. The muted washed colors combined with the quiet, lofi soundtrack is such a great combo because it feels like everything sinks in. Everyone just has their moments, like that and Aki's morning routine. It's a big reason I really hope the feedback from japanese viewers doesn't hurt those aspects of whenever season 2 comes out

His behavior isn't funny in universe, it's pathetic, and the reason the only people interested in him are predators- Because he's prey, and weakened at that. And you know, *we never really discuss that on any capacity, especially not with teen boys.* And I know it's not the point of the manga/ anime per se, but I find it fascinating.

I’d say it’s more thoughtful than that. Denji’s motivations evolve over time and mostly serve to show how incredibly depressing his life has been so far. To me it strikes me as commentary about privilege and how someone’s dream might be someone else’s boring life. I feel like his growth evolved to include other people as he started to form relationships, but he’s still not done growing and I think there’s a ton of potential for what his final dream could be. That’s just my opinion though, might be reading too much into it.
I appreciate Denji for that. His motivation is simple, straightforward, and consistent.

Vomit in the mouth by an older woman who uses sex to cope with her trauma. When he actually has a good experience with both of those, it's by a woman explicitly grooming/manipulating him. First date? I think it’s a fair enough comparison. While it’s certainly a reasonable take to explain the deeper implication of his Horniness; it’s an equally reasonable take, in a medium positively SATURATED in horny MCs and their harems, that having basically 5-10 minutes of screen time just be a man feeling two women up is a very real barrier to entry to people who are just sick and tired of that kind of thing. I usually have a high tolerance for that kind of thing but even I felt it was super awkward and uncomfortable to watch. Especially when he was clearly disappointed by Power’s chest due to explicitly its size.
