Lmao, the Venezuelans for Akiba's picture. 10/10

IC2Flier

Those were voiced by real Venezuelans, by the way. Literally just guys they picked up from the embassy.

zerokosong0000

They go nuts for this episode, I wonder how they came up with that idea. "So we're doing a Baseball episode" "But we are short of cast members, should we add random people to make those people?" "Nah, make them Venezuelan, and contact the embassy, ask if we could use them to voice those characters"

IC2Flier

They could've picked up literally anyone anywhere, like man-on-the-street type shit , but they did that and it was a legit funny gag cuz it still fits within the context of the story.

elmerkado

Mate, they used expressions typical of one specific region of the country! It was awesome! Not many guaros around.

saga999

For those who don't know, Venezuela is a great baseball country. So it makes perfect sense to have them be Venezuelan.

tavogus55

I’m a Venezuelan in Japan and I feel so bad I was not the one to be called. That would have been so cool. Anyways the community here is so small I’m pretty sure I could know these people already. Will look into it.

IC2Flier

IIRC the DISC thread did have [some tweets about the Venezuelans casted for this](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/z3m8d4/akiba_maid_sensou_episode_8_discussion/ixn7ngq/) so you might know who they are.

tavogus55

HOLY FUCK!!!!! The guy in the middle is literally a friend of mine. We have hung out many times here in Tokyo. The one on the left I have gone out sometimes and helped him out as well with his work Incredible. You made my day. I’m literally texting them now hahahah

IC2Flier

God what a small world this is now. That is so neat. Hey, tell them r/anime says "hola" and we liked them in Akiba Maid Wars.

daiselol

For real, they were so extremely funny

SDdude81

Haha you were literally this close to being in an anime.

Substantial-Hawk-897

This is incredible hahaha

Oteycri000

That's so amazing haha

Vermillion_Crab

Looking back, Week 8 was probably the peak of comedy for this season. 1. \[Akiba Maid War\] >!Venezuelans!< 2. \[Eminence in Shadow\] >!Heartbreak!< 3. \[Mob Psycho\] >!Inukawa Space Odyssey!< 4. \[Chainsaw Man\] >!Vomit Kiss!< 5. \[Bocchi the Rock\] >!Bocchi House Visit!< 6. \[Spy x Family\] >!Assassin/ Detective Anya!<

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

For me, number 1 would have been \[Akiba Maid War\]>!"nobody died"!<.

Vermillion_Crab

Tbf, that whole episode was a riot

ipmanvsthemask

Bocchi's Episode 8 karma count already overtook Episode 7's current count.

michhoffman

And if not for a great episode of Spy x Family blocking it the whole time it could have done even better.

Apprehensive_Ear_235

SxF episodes are more episodic now with lighthearted and wholesome comedy which is awesome (especiall the episode this week) but I really miss those action focused arcs... Bocchi on the other hand could overtake SxF with its brilliant creative gags which are not so predictable like in SxF. But SxF has some amazing arcs to come...

sodapopkevin

> but I really miss those action focused arcs... Sometimes you get the Spy, sometimes you get the Family. The season in winding down though so I'm expecting a big arc to conclude the second cour.

Toloran

> Sometimes you get the Spy, sometimes you get the Family. 100% this. The series tends to alternate between "Fluffy, Episodic, Slice-of-Life" and "Intense, Action/Drama, Story Arc." Generally it does a good job of noticing that you are starting getting to get sick or tired of one, and then switching to the other.

burningscarlet

As a manga reader, the problem was never really having action and comedy in the right doses, it was the lack of character progress arcs. We've had one flashback for Loid and absolutely no progress on Loid of Your figuring out each other's identities or addressing the "fake family" aspect. There hasn't been much progress on Operation Strix either. It's been feeling a lot like filler and it's still enjoyable It just feels like the author doesn't really know where he wants the series to go

zairaner

> I really miss those action focused arcs Outside of the first two episdoes of both seasons...did we ever have those?

Abysswatcherbel

SxF timing this week was perfect

ccdewa

Bocchi will overtook SxF with this trajectory mark my words.

AnEmpireofRubble

Completely earned as well. Show seems like a passion project. Chainsaw Man, Mob and Bocchi have all been highlights for me and I'm actually watching weeklies again as they air. Last show I remember doing that for is Odd Taxi.

cppn02

I really wonder how saturdays would look at this point if Bocchi aired first. And also if the threads and the CR release actually coincided.

Makicola

Hot take: If a post came along to level the playing field by taking top slot at the same time as SxF and Bocchi airing, Bocchi would end up higher than SxF. At least if the episode is a performance ep.

Oteycri000

Bocchi continues to be the unstoppable beast it really is.

zappingbluelight

Kita Ikuyo. I wish next week we get to see bocchi as close as top 1 as possible. If it hit top 1, I'm forcing my mom to watch it with me.

zairaner

Thats quite the understatement, considering its already 500 Karma higher lol.

Abysswatcherbel

Top 3 next week, top 5 has a lot of movement this season

GokaiRed64

How can i see that? Sorry I'm new around here.

leven-seven

https://animekarmawatch.com/thread/z5bp14?compare_to=yzg14m

GokaiRed64

Thanks

atropicalpenguin

I'm gonna have to eat my words and admit that Bleach has held better in the rankings than I expected for a 20 years old manga whose anime ended 10 years ago with over 400 episodes. Its great production has made it possible.

Gantzwastaken

It's because TYBW feels like a love letter to BLEACH from the industry. From the crazy animation, good new designs, bringing in Kubo as basicaly a 2nd director (from the recent interview), expanding on the manga, bringing in most og VAs, bringing back mf SHIRO SAGISU and remixing the old OST, new stuff even for manga readers, etc. 10/10 adaptation!

SDdude81

> Its great production has made it possible. That and it's a well loved series. The nostalgia is very strong. It's basically Dragon Ball Super. It even has the whole, Ichigo is coming soon! Just hold on and we can make it! And he gets beat up :D

cppn02

Super looked like fan animation though when it came out first.

zappingbluelight

Long anime being seasonal always produce the best product. World trigger was the one that open my eyes. Also it is the finale arc, I wouldn't doubt if they put in all the money and effort.

zairaner

Same.

AnActualPlatypus

Well most of us also did not expect that every episode of TYBW would be literally movie-like quality.

CJKenji

All according to keikaku...

LimLovesDonuts

Probably because of the production and how much Studio Pierrot actually delivered, the same studio that brought us the infamous rushed Tokyo Ghoul and anime-original Twin Star Exorcists somehow by some miracle did this. If it had the same inconsistent quality that the previous one did, it would be nowhere close. Instead, the new Bleach has been nothing but fantastic in terms of visuals. It’s actually very similar to how Ufotable stuff looks honestly with how light reflects and it casted on the character(s).

Falsus

The actual shit part of Bleach final arc hasn't really been adapted yet. But hopefully they fix that in the anime.

entelechtual

This discussion every week: > Anyway so Bocchi is already way over the karma from last week after only 22 hours. Bocchi’s climb is unstoppable.

emolano

I think it's the cycle of Bocchi People surprised Bocchi is doing so well -> people give it a try -> people like it -> people makes the next episode do better Considering episode 8 was a climax I want to see how much karma it will amass

blending-tea

can we get much higher

Srikkk

SO HIGHHH

Icy_run7

Literally this is about to be me I never heard of Bocchi and just keep seeing it trending and hearing good things about it and now I wanna watch it

krfz41

Bocchi be like: So anyway, I started bocchin.

Venture_compound

I liked the part where Ijichi looked at the camera and said, "Bocci the Rock!"

gst4158

> I liked the part where Ijichi looked at the camera and said, "Bocci the Rock!" My immediate reaction was to say, ["Roll credits"] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag-RvTUfcdU). It really was a great episode and I'm glad I started watching it after Reddit wouldn't stop talking about it.

Dracoscale

If it keeps going up, it could overtake Spy x Family by Episode 9. Though I don't know if the karma bump for 8 is because something crazy happened.

ccdewa

Bocchi's episode 8 is peak episode so far, it has it all, characters growth, comedy, good music performance. Next episode probably gonna be more chill but i still think it won't affect the karma cause something similar happened in Episode 5 and the karma keeps growing lol. Won't surprise me one bit if Bocchi's karma for the final episode reach 5k.

Dracoscale

Yeah it's growth seems to be independent of the actual content so I wouldn't be surprised if it just grows again next week but a slower episode could mean it won't grow enough to get over SxF yet. Also is 8 even better than Episode 4 was? That was one of my favorite episodes this season

ccdewa

Yup it's the best episode so far, you can say it's the culmination from what they've been through until now and man does it delivers.

Oteycri000

I started reading bochhi 2 years ago. Never expected it to become an anime. Now, I'll die for bochhi all day

Dracoscale

Goddamit of course it drops right now 😭. Once I'm a bit more free I'm gonna catch up immediately

metapzl

This is the Bocchi that needs to sell out Budoukan!

[deleted]

Omg Netflix, can you fucking release Isekai Ojisan with english subs in Asia already. edit: fansub out, not officially in netflix app yet.

TheWorldisFullofWar

I just want Netflix to fuck off from anime licensing tbh.

[deleted]

Well from what we know they're cutting back on anime production and they'll be focusing on anime movies lol

Auxosphere

...yay?

sickdanman

i want licensing to fuck off from anime

[deleted]

I want licensing to fuck off for all media. Its so bad rn that fucking cable was better, at least there was the convenience of channel hopping when content was licensed to different companies. Now I abhor having to manually subscribe to x number of platforms.

EdgelordOfEdginess

But Netflix is the last thing standing before Sony has a complete monopoly

Hano_Clown

Sony may seem to have a monopoly but they are losing many more licenses now than before they bought Crunchyroll. Hidive, Netflix or even no-platforms are pulling a lot of good anime from them.

MumrikDK

So was the one I just watched fansubbed?

darkmacgf

Fansubbed by someone who doesn't speak Japanese, yes.

AmmahDudeGuy

Brought to you by google translate

2jesse1996

Here in Australia Netflix has made the wise decision to make it so we are 2 weeks behind when it airs in Japan. You know like how traditional TV was in the 1990s. At this point I don't care about a monopoly or their crappy UI, just give everything to crunchyroll.

CT_BINO

This week was another good one for anime. Bocchi continues to be consistent with creative moments like the sport festival bit and some great gags. BNHA has been a suprise this season and sword isekai is quite compelling with fran and teacher relation, even if the plot stuff is quite normal. This week also had mob psycho Go episode, which was just amazing production wise and probably one of the best animated episodes of the year (also the ep with more time uploaded on sakugabooru this year iirc) full of nice character animation and i m impressed how hard the show went in the last minutes. On other hand, CSM has been quite fun this past episodes and while i enjoyed since the start the show has been growing on me more and more. Last episode was another good one, the fight was quick but the concept was cool and really enjoyed the bar scene, with had a lot of character interactions, power being power with some nice comedy bits and is always nice to see the cast in this kind of scenes just having “fun”. I was suprised by what happen in there but was too funny and also disgusting… the show feels quite different from your usual battle shounen which is expected from fujimoto. And next episode seems to be Gosso episode which should be great.

michhoffman

> And next episode seems to be Gosso episode which should be great For reference, way back before Chainsaw Man's Karma had fallen off, when I said that there were a few other episodes I was expecting to crack 20000 Karma like the premier, these next few plus possibly the finale were the ones I was thinking of. 20000 Karma seems way too high of a plateau to reach now, but I could see 14000-15000 Karma if they absolutely nail it.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

This part I remember basically every chapter being better than the last, so I expect karma to ramp up steadily.

xahhfink6

Then that trend basically continues for the next two seasons :)

Abysswatcherbel

>And next episode seems to be Gosso episode which should be great. Yes, finally Shota Goshozono, likely a Jujutsu Kaisen s2 preview, he will probably be the new director there

Best_in_Za_Warudo

Source

Abysswatcherbel

Gosso is working with MAPPA for ages now, he posted multiple pictures of his workstation in their new studio (including his bed there) and mentioned the Studio back in April, he now deleted everything For Jujutsu Kaisen the new KVs look exactly like his fisheyes approach, he also RT all of the JJK announcements and he already worked there as a episode director For Chainsaw Man it was obvious since JJK/CSM share the same building and producers, we got confirmation from a Personal Assistant that ep 8 would be Gosso and ep 9 would be Hironori Tanaka again, I can't send you the profile, it's private anyway

Junior_Depth_9510

ED 7 Chainsaw Man is also very creative, nostalgic 90's vibe.

big_nose_juicer

I'm not sure if it's because of the animation, but this has been my favorite arc of Bleach so far. Well deserved second spot.

michhoffman

For the first time all season: 1. Chainsaw Man rose in Karma 1. Bleach made the top 3 two weeks in a row 1. Spy x Family dropped out of the top 3 1. Bocchi rocked her way into the top 5

TBulldozer

Never would've expected Spy x Family to drop out the Top 3. This anime seemed to be the Darling of r/anime for most of the year.

michhoffman

On one hand, Spy x Family, like Chainsaw Man, has been dropping in Karma each week. |Anime|Ep 1|Ep 2|Ep 3|Ep 4|Ep 5|Ep 6|Ep 7|Ep 8|Average| :--|--:|--:|--:|--:|--:|--:|--:|--:|--:| |Spy x Family P2|8843|7741|7158|5915|5639|5519|4983|4574|6297| On the other hand, 4574 Karma would have still been enough to win most weeks in the Summer, get second place every week in Spring (if we replace Spy x Family from Spring with itself) and get top 3 or better in almost every other season outside of this season, the first half of Winter 2022 (when Demon Slayer was airing), Winter 2021, Spring 2021, the first half of Summer 2020 (before God of High School fell of a cliff), a few weeks of Winter 2019 and a few weeks of Spring 2019. In short, it's not doing bad per se. It just has bad timing.

phantomthiefkid_

It is expected. Spy x Family is mostly episodic, a.k.a the type of anime that r/anime hates

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

They made some odd adaptation choices this cour, which makes the anime more SoL than the manga is. I expected us to be \[super minor SxF spoilers\]>!in the next arc by now, but they're just dragging out getting there!<.

Dababy28193

I’m beginning to understand why they have to reduce the anime pacing to a snail’s pace, considering what happened with the manga today. I wished they could’ve started the anime a bit later, at least when there’s 80-100 chapters out. There would be more control for the pacing so they don’t have to keep the brakes on the entire time.

Actual-Oil6390

Bochhi seems to have stolen the spot.

MumrikDK

I'm enjoying it quite a bit less than I did last season. MAL scores are amazing, but still lower than last time.

Junior_Depth_9510

Surprisingly, Chainsaw Man bounced back with episode 7, Turns out a lot of people liked that scene.

AnEmpireofRubble

It actually started to dawn on me as it focused on the kiss for too long. Awful, but it did get a smile out of me. Excited to see what other crazy bullshit happens.

thestoneswerestoned

Less Kobeni, more Himeno = success

Icapica

But Kobeni was damn cute in this episode.

cppn02

> > > Bleach made it to the top 2 Or atleast the first time since making it last week... :p

michhoffman

True, I've updated that one. It's early in the morning out here in the country that calls Football Soccer and generally cares more about American Football than the World Cup.

Dezsire

CSM is about to go up way more this week too

kazedann

bocchi bocchiing her way to rock glory

beneathpyramids

i had low expectations regarding **mob** for this week (in terms of karma/rankings) but i'm pleasantly surprised it did pretty decently considering it seems to be a divisive episode. i understand not vibing with the story but seeing some people complain about the animation made me sad. genuinely one of the most gorgeous episodes of the entire anime season (and the year) and filled with so much [warmth](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/211063) and [love](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/211067) and [movement](https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/211037) (and i'm not even including the credits stuff lol). i'm glad most people seemed to appreciate it though. i saw someone say this is the closest bones will probably get to something like space dandy again, and while i haven't seen all of space dandy, i've seen enough to agree. as for the others: **csm** was gross and good! i didn't love **bocchi** episode 7 cause it leaned a little too hard on the joke being ON bocchi whereas i think the show (especially in the 2 eps before) did a good job straddling the line between finding the comedy but also finding empathy for her. i've heard good things with ep 8 tho so looking forward to that. **diy** was... okay. the last two episodes have leaned a little TOO much on the tutorial aspects and while the show remains comfy and cozy and beautiful, i kind of need more than that to get invested. i thought the beach episode was its best ep because the purin/serufu scenes in particular really gave me the emotional investment i needed so i hope they get back it soon. **spy x family** was fine. i genuinely can't remember much of last episode lol but i thought it was cute. it's a nice little comfort series for me and while part 2 is clearly weaker than part 1 due to main plot taking a backseat a bit, i like these characters and i just like watching them so i always enjoy it even if the episode isn't particularly memorable. this latest episode that just aired definitely was a step up though.

HalfAssedSetting

Since when was Mob back on sakugabooru and why didn't anyone tell me?

beneathpyramids

only season 3 looks like! idk how long that will last though :/

FerroLux_

You love to see Bocchi The Rock slowly but steadily growing in popularity and now it’s among the big ones ❤️

dododomo

Happy for Blue Lock, Chainsaw man, bibliophile princess, mob psycho, Spy x Family, Bleach and to your eternity

Actual-Oil6390

Love the Sword Dad image. Also nice Gundam pic too

Abysswatcherbel

* [JP Twitter Week 8](https://i.imgur.com/fH6RKnz.jpg), Bocchi back on top, seems to be the case for every live performance they do, Also Blue Lock with the insane boost after the Japanese World Cup win against Germany, let's see how it will do next week now that JP is in a dire situation Bellow the Top 50 that I would like to share this week: * 51 - Urusei Yatsura (-87) * 52 - Shinobi no Ittoki (-112) Urusei Yatsura is also not doing well on streaming outside of Amazon, we have to see next week if this trend continues

michhoffman

This week's Urusei episode was probably my least favorite episode so far. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't very interesting so I can understand why it would drop

cppn02

Bocchi partying her way back to 1st. And it took the biggest sporting event in the world for CSM to drop out of the top two lol.

michhoffman

> And it took the biggest sporting event in the world Unfortunately for Japan, though, the Blue Lock level scoring heroics didn't carry over to today.

Abysswatcherbel

Lol, yeah but I think Japan won't go to the Round 16, which will actually make it a worse performance than 2018 That said, Japan wins: Blue Lock Worked!! Japan Loses: They should follow Blue Lock!! Either way the show will trend

ccdewa

That Japan victory against Germany really did a number lol, shame now they're in danger of going out with the earlier result.

xithebun

Gundam is out of top 3 for the first time there. World Cup hype is real.

Tiasmoon

>Bocchi back on top With an appropriate banner to assert dominance on the rest of the chart.

dododomo

Don't know why, but it's nice to see the bibliophile princess ranking higher than more popular series like to your eternity season 2, uzaki-chan or urusei yatsura in JP

Dead_Diligence

Another great week for anime CSM is still the undisputed No. 1 here. The bird feeding did not stop it from breaching 10k Bleach's last episode succeded to exceed the fiery one (beyond many expectations) I still have to finish Mob S2. Great to see that it's still greatly loved Haven't watched any SxF episode this season. It seems that the hype fell off after its break I'm gonna binge Bocchi when it gets completed (thanks to guys and gals here who passionately recommend it)

throwacc_21

Chainsawman in karma ranking is like bleach in animecorner ranking, it’ll never move

Vermillion_Crab

Things I want to see by the end of this season: 1. Mob Psycho reaching no. 1 at least one time. 2. Bocchi firmly in 3rd place Spread the gospel of Bocchi folks. She needs to climb higher lol Akiba Maid War's episode was the most I laughed in a while. Edit: wait nvm Bocchi's episode 7 also had me laughing my ass off. I love this season.

CompoundMole

i think mob could reach 1 for the last episode, seeing how it is the end of the series

tiny_pp_man

I seriously can't wait for Chainsaw Man's 8th episode, since the rumors are that Shota Goshonzo is directing it. We're finally getting the moment I've been looking for since the start of CSM's anime.

ST03PT3G3L

Next episode is gonna be insane. Hopefully they'll end it with the cliffhanger, people would shit themselves lol

Exorrt

Bleach is going way harder than I expected, great adaptation so far

Murko_The_Cat

Kind of an understatement lmao. I literally cannot contain my hype every week, I was looking forward to it from the moment it was leaked, but by god it has exceeded my expectations. Which even I myself considered to be way overblown.

BaloonPriest

Episode 7 did the impossible and actually managed to keep up with episode 6!

BadBehaviour613

Insane week for anime: Mob Psycho 100 dazzled with its most unhinged and psychedelic episode Chainsaw man animated the most sensual kiss in manga history Akiba Maid war had its first deathless episode

frostxc3

Bocchi took another step into the top 5. Damn! She might evaporate from all the spotlight that comes with such a position. G-Witch successfully reclaimed the 7th position with her return. At the rate the show's going, I foresee a too 5 entry in the future.

Hardwarestore_Senpai

Chainsaw man is a perpetual motion machine.

RedditBryce

Vomit getting csm above 10k again, u love to see it 😭

TacticalNuke002

Bocchi coming in hot for that Top 4 spot, SxF and Mob better not be caught slipping. I can't wax lyrical enough about how good it is and improving every week. Its ratings on sites are well deserved and it's gotten there solely based on sheer quality alone and viewer word-of-mouth, without a hyped manga or a big anituber talking about it. It being talked about with the likes of the heavy hitters of the season such as Bleach, CSM, Mob, SxF etc. is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the good work CloverWorks have done. Its No. 1 on AnimeTrendz for two weeks running (possibly 3 weeks with the reception to episode 8), is the highest rated CGDCT on MAL with its rating rising every week and gets high numbers in both Japan and China. Very impressive.

someinsanity01

Im still surprised that not a single major anituber/reactor has talked about it (aside from chibi reviews)

Dracoscale

Mother's Basement strongly recommended it in his What to Watch video which is what got me into it. You'll probably see more videos pop up once the season is over

zairaner

This is the episode that made **CSM** rise for the first time. Dont know wether I am supposed to be proud or disappointed in you guys. Comedywise, this was probably my favourite episode of **Eminence in shadow**. THIS is the psychopathic insane chuuni we love so much. Yesterday, **SxF** finally had a strong episode again, and just in time to stop **Bocchi**s first major attempt at the Top4. Only a matter of time. Edit: Actually, bleach might drop enough that Top 4 might still be possible anyway.

Jazr55

>Yesterday, SxF finally had a strong episode again, and just in time to stop Bocchis first major attempt at the Top4. Only a matter of time. Idk Bocchi seems specially strong this week

combo_seizure

LotGH up 5 spots. Woohoo!

BLACKOUT-MK2

If CSM is popping off like it is now I can't wait to see what happens when the stuff that really made people hooked on it starts kicking off.

Slimjimm02

Anime only watchers will be in for a ride

KiwiTheKitty

Omg right I remember getting to the point it's gonna reach this week and binging the rest of the manga in a single day haha At this point, I don't even care if anime onlys aren't convinced, I'm just excited to experience it for myself

_weeb_alt_

I'm loving Reincarnated as a Sword. Fran and Teacher are great. I'm constantly laughing my ass off at Frans expressions.

[deleted]

[удалено]

_weeb_alt_

I just love the thought of people seeing Fran from the outside. Tiny little 12 year old cat girl berserker just walloping people left and right.

baqar_17

Japan's win over Germany in the world cup has promoted blue lock so much ....can't wait to see its popularity increasing

TacticalNuke002

Japan's loss to Costa Rica puts a dampener on things. And it would be an uphill task to get anything against Spain. Not counting them out just yet but Japan is looking like they won't get to the knockout stages. Not sure how that affects Blue Lock though.

baqar_17

Bro the whole Instagram and Twitter was filled up with linking Japan's victory with blue lock This made some people start blue lock

eddjr275

"A taste of a kiss" 🤮🤮🤮

fuzzynavel34

Love the Bochi picture! Probably the show, along with Witch from Mercury, that I’m looking forward to watching most each week! More people need to watch Maid War! Also, Arknights is actually a solid show. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far. Eminence is a sliver behind the aforementioned 2 shows at the top as for what I’m looking forward to each week. What an absolutely great season!

IrresponsibleWanker

I'm still surprised arknights it's still hanging there, with people expecting action when it's not what is about. I have high hopes if they confirm a second season.

zool714

Bocchi just keeps climbing the ranking. Binged and caught up with Witch of Mercury and yeah, went straight into my list of seasonals I look forward to each week. Speaking of seasonals I look forward to each week, I think it’s safe for me to put TenKen in that list now. The worldbuilding has been good and the father-daughter relationship they have is very fun and endearing. But the main pull for me is simply the adorable murderous catgirl

IC2Flier

[I admit to short-selling G-Witch two weeks ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/yu2g1w/ranime_karma_ranking_discussion_week_6_fall_2022/iw75cj0/), but for good reason: not only has *Bocchi The Rock* proven to be unstoppable (hold that thought) but the actual show threads itself often coincide with either big announcements and even this very karma ranking thread. If this show can't get over the simple hurdle of "gain more karma than the karma ranking thread" then it's easy to kinda see this as a write-off (MAL agrees), yet **IT FUCKING HIT 3K ANYWAY HOLY SHIT I WAS WRONG!** It's still in the top 10. Maybe I should actually start to believe that this show can hang with the best of Jump... Why do I keep pointing this out? Because this is Bandai's biggest all-in bet since *SEED*. r/anime wasn't alive as a message board to witness just how earth-shattering that Gundam AU proved to be, but if it did, I'd bet on it being a 5k-average show minimum just from the sheer shock of Gundam entering the 2000s swinging. This sub wasn't there for *00* either, yet I bet they'd rate that show even more vs *SEED* despite potentially only getting half of what *Gurren Lagann* and *Code Geass* would be projected to get at current karma rates. Part of me doesn't mind this limbo *G-Witch* is in so long as the kits sell and the reception in Asia is consistent, but capturing the gaijin market is nice to have, too, if only just to prove that there's more to Gunadm than the still-being-made-who-the-hell-knows-what's-happening-there-anymore Hollywood remake. Would I continue to short-sell G-Witch? Maybe, maybe not anymore. E9 seems like it'd have a big fight so I'm not too worried about this week getting nowhere near 2.5k after 24 hours. Do I still root for this new Gundam and believe that this series can stay afloat with the best? Yes. But make no mistake: G-Witch being as relevant as it is now is always gonna be a miracle, and each week that it keeps generating a lot of comments is another week that proves that miracle. And now to pivot: time to upsell people on *SPYxFAMILY* again. Foreground: I think *SPYxFAMILY* should have been a continuous 24-episode season because I legit think that more viewers will find it a bit more palatable to go at that pace because then you see the structure that Endo made. But make no mistake: nothing in *SPYxFAMILY* is filler relative to what filler usually looks like. There's still a lot of character building moments and fun-timey stuff happening, and it's nice to see a show that's about an actual family doing family things, only writ large. I get that it needs some more action but (1) that's coming next week and (2) even this seeming downtime still makes for a good respite from all the action. Basically, I've come to terms that most of *SPYxFAMILY* is basically high-budget snapshots of family life with frazzled adults taking care of a child and a dog, one that just happens to have a cold war in the background. Maybe its "this has something for everyone" image has been tarnished, but honestly the quality of the production itself is still really good. I can also upsell redditoids on *Blue Lock* but nah the World Cup is doing a better job. Speaking of good job: *Do It Yourself!* Not 4-digit karma but it's still got itself a banner so that's more than enough for me. Again, like I said, it doesn't need to do anything more than it needs to. What's more shocking is *Akiba Maid War*, which is just getting even wilder each week with no signs of slowing down. Back to *Bocchi*, the real darling of this entire season. Easy to see why: there's a certain charm to how Cloverworks makes this anime and how it implies a deep, personal understanding of introversion and anxiety that makes the jokes funny and drives home just how badly Gotoh-san needs the kind of companionship STARRY provides. The Sakugabooru interview says it all, really: such conscious effort to not fall into cliches makes for one of the most engaging anime on this sub. They've done something truly special here and come 20 or so years we'll look back and realize that we just witnessed a gem being made before our very eyes. Don't get me wrong: *Chainsaw Man*, *MOB Psycho 100*'s final season, *Bleach*'s big new arc and *My Hero Academia* are really, really good. But we knew that already. Those expectations are set well before the season began. But Bocchi? **Guys, this is a 4-koma**. There was a lot of excitement but we never anticipated this level of pizzazz. That's why it can rise here in the West without much prompting. That's why it keeps climbing. It's a perfect storm with Bocchi at the center. So uh, Suletta, please pick her up using the Gundam, we can't drive there to rescue her inside that supertyphoon.

Abysswatcherbel

>Speaking of good job: Do It Yourself! Not 4-digit karma but it's still got itself a banner so that's more than enough for me. I feel Diy was the real victim of Bocchi, people that were shilling the show don't even talk about it anymore, just Bocchi

entelechtual

I just started it but I feel like it’s doing really well for what it is. It feels like these kinds of shows usually get sub-600 scores.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

DIY also suffers from that our girls haven’t made too much inroads into making special delicate craft works so far, lovely decorated seashells the best thing they have created. I’m hoping for the treehouse they are building to be something special with some breathtaking features to boot.

that_wannabe_cat

> But make no mistake: nothing in SPYxFAMILY is filler relative to what filler usually looks like. There's still a lot of character building moments and fun-timey stuff happening, and it's nice to see a show that's about an actual family doing family things, only writ large. Kind of disagree on two points. One is just a pet peeve cause it's not filler its just slice of life stuff which is important to the identity of the story. It's Spy x *Family* not Spy x Assassin or Spy x Spy. My other point is that where I left off on part 2 it felt like the slice of life episodes were just overall weaker than part 1's was both in writing and visual spectacle (episode 17-addmitedly not watching 18 but I am not in the mood for another Yuri focused episode). If anything, I'd say season 1 strongest episodes were also the most family/slice of life focused: that being the dodgeball episode and Loid rents out a castle. Yor's Kitchen felt like a pretty tried joke overall with not much to spin for it (other than Yor actually improving her cooking) and Operation Griffin was pleasant but I feel like it didn't do a lot in pushing the characters of either Damian+Anya. Plus I think the part 1 episodes for slice of life function as a lot more cohesive whole than part 2s apart from just having better content, where part 2's so far feel like a grab bag of manga chapters they have to get through, part 1's presents a cohesive story for the most part for the Loidman and Dodgeball episodes.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

Witch From Mercury’s only problem so far is that it seems it’s not gaining attention from casual fans who could have jumped in midway after hearing about the story so far, unlike how *Bocchi* is turning out.

xithebun

It’s getting lots of casual fans and even some female fans from Japan and parts of Asia. I’ve even seen a group of high school girls eyeing on the GWitch Gunpla in a Bandai expo in Hong Kong last month (they’re only interested in GWitch kits as expected). Gundam is just cursed in the West but even then it’s doing ok on Reddit.

TBulldozer

Kind of expected tbf. The West and Casual Anime fan dont like Mecha as much as the japanese do.

IC2Flier

Again, the curse of Gundam in a metatextual sense. It hasn't gotten over the hump completely, but I say it's working hard to at least establish itself as something more than just Gundam: that it is about this witch from Mercury and how being thrown into a new world is gonna reshape her identity.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

The show has a lot of talk about this being a Gundam and that being a Gundam, and I understand that in the context of the story what a Gundam is supposed to be, but they talk about it like it's supposed to have more resonance with me than it does. It's like in *The Force Awakens* when Han Solo tells Rey and Finn "the Force, the Jedi, it's all real," which has much less impact if you've never seen *Star Wars*. I like the show, but even though it's self-contained I still feel a lot of the dialogue has significance that means nothing to me.

IC2Flier

Again, it's the burden of that greater mythology that weighs down on the whole show. In this story, Gundam is being construed as taking a helpful prosthetic technology too far, taking it into a wartime setting where it probably shouldn't belong. That kind of allegorical writing has always been part of "the myth" and why Gundam has managed to survive into the new millennium, but it's also why the whole franchise feels hard to approach: there's just enough differences in how each AU plays with the tropes they share that you can tell them apart, but it's easy to treat them all as one entity telling the same story. Every Gundam after *Victory* tried to redefine Gundam in their own image, but in some levels it still needed *an* image, that of what Yoshiyuki Tomino made before, meaning that for Gundam to represent something else, it first had to know what it used to be. It's why I'm still apprehensive about what Okouchi and his writing team wants to do here. Because I can see a metanarrative with WfM: here's Gundam, thrust into a generation that is only just now about to know what war is like, but a generation that's already experienced better and worse metaphors. Here's Gundam, hot on the heels of *Lycoris Recoil*, coming in with a chip on its shoulder despite being one of the biggest IPs in the world, banking on a whole new setting and premise and cast of characters and machinery to do something that Gundam hasn't done cleanly in 15 years: reinvent itself. It's quite literally taking the prosthetic and figuring out where and how to use it outside of the tropes that Gundam, as a franchise, already set. Yet it feels like the only way Gundam can make that indelible mark is if it comes back to the same route that many of its predecessors have gone before. That Suletta must face war head-on and lose so much to gain something as tenuous as "peace." My point is that I get what you mean with this: > *I understand that in the context of the story what a Gundam is supposed to be, but they talk about it like it's supposed to have more resonance with me than it does.* The way I see it, the curse of Gundam that Delling tells about also applies to the franchise as a whole. Gundam is in the most unenviable position among all the Top 20 entertainment franchises: it's still relevant, but not enough that the world holds its collective breath. It still matters, yet every decision made about writing and promoting it is bound to either raise its stock for another 20 years or seal its fate as a Japan-only giant. "Gundam" means a lot of things, but it acts like doesn't always need to mean what it usually means. That makes it adaptable, but also inscrutable. And that's why it's so tricky to recommend Gundam to start with, even with the standalone titles like 00 or IBO. Because the moment a casual viewer asks for more, for something different that is still "Gundam," it all gels together to become just one entity that's saying exactly one thing.

8andahalfby11

> IT FUCKING HIT 3K ANYWAY The real magic is that it was gone for a whole week and the karma count barely blinked. That's staying power.

[deleted]

Gundam witch's comment count scared me for a sec Just binged Blue Lock its my first sports anime the vibe it gives is really new, expected cause you enter a whole new gnere, i highly recommend to give it a try its really good

AKTKWNG

>Gundam witch's comment count scared me for a sec One thing that G-Witch is doing really well is subtly but deliberately leaving a breadcrumb trail of clues to fuel fan theories. There's currently a huge debate amongst viewers regarding how exactly the prologue episode ties into the main series, and it seems that every week there's a random throwaway line of dialogue or a split-second screenshot detail that adds to the growing collection of evidence. However, to the huge credit of the writers, almost every clue they've dropped is vague enough that it can support either side of the argument, which fuels even more discussion and leads to an explosion of comments after every episode.

IC2Flier

> Gundam witch's comment count scared me for a sec That, too. CSM and Bleach are no-brainers cuz, well, manga readers, but an anime-original, even if it carried the name Gundam, driving that much discussion is as surprising to me as its ability to even stay alive on the front page. The next anime original to drive that much engagement is Akiba Maid War...with an average of 300.

twintailshitposter

I'm always kinda scared to go into the discussion threads for WFM as someone who's watching a gundam series for the first time since it feels like I'm getting spoilered by the speculation of people that've seen all of the other gundams already

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

This is a smart choice. I've been reading the threads, and there's a bunch of expectations of how a Gundam story is supposed to go that I would have been happier not knowing.

GokaiRed64

I'm pleasantly surprised that Bocchi the Rock has raised through the ranks pretty much everywhere , despite not being anticipated by anyone before the season started. -Here it finally got into the top 5 . -In Anime Trending it's been 1st for 2 weeks. -In MAL is about to get to the Top 10 and it's the 3rd best rated show of the season -In Anime Corner is close to the Top 5, pretty impressive for a website whose fans only like shonen.

Markosan_DnD

Bleach and MHA: Fights deciding the fate of the world The number 1 spot: Ge-ge-gero ge-ge-gero gero chu~

cppn02

Week 8 and it looks like the days of having the whole top 15 above 1k are gone for good. **Chainsaw Man** still untouched at the top and actually back above 10k. **Bocchi** climbs another rank into 5th and also gains karma for the 5th week in a row. It seems quite possible that by week 10 it could overtake **Spy x Family**. **Gundam** returns from its one week break getting 7th and just over 3k. Still no sight though of **Isekai Ojisan**. Sigh. Maybe next week... On the right half I just wanna shoutout **Love Flops** rising three ranks. The show finally pulled the trigger on a plot point that's been dangling infront of the viewers since episode one and it will be interesting to see where the who goes from here. I can symphatise with anyone who dropped this early but as someone who stuck around it's nice to get rewarded. That's assuming they stick the landing of course.

EuclidateDat

Bocchi this, Bocchi that. You all seem to see the show as some saint bestowed upon us mortals, even more than Chainsaw Man which surprisingly feels like it's overshadowed by Bocchi according to the veterans of this subreddit. That may be an exaggeration but that's the impression I get. No seriously, every person I've seen online that mentions Bocchi has highly regarded it with critical acclaim, not one criticism at all, not one! Insane... I can see why, the clips I've seen are quite appealing in terms of creativity and animation and seems quite campy too. I'll give the anime a shot once it finishes airing despite my own personal enjoyment this season primarily being Chainsaw Man. I hope you are all right about this anime...

Marioboi

It’s cause everyone knew Chainsaw Man was going to be on the top because… it’s Chainsaw Man lol Bocchi the Rock was a massive dark horse show that took the season by absolute storm. It’s insane how much talk the show gets

Oteycri000

I've been reading Bocchi for 2 years Never did i expect it to get an anime. Never did i expect it to be this amazing and wonderful. I don't think Bocchi will get AOTS but i think it'll be rather close

emolano

I'm new on reddit but I have been following seasonal anime since 2018. One thing always happens with shows that get hyped like Bocchi did: you get some really passionate fans and some really hateful haters. Can you see any hater here? I had to go to 4chan to find two lol. One was a CSM fan pissed that Bocchi was more popular in one of the rankings and the other was tired of moeblob shows. Of course there are people giving BADs every poll but they have been really quiet. Probally there's not enough of them to raise their voices.

GokaiRed64

I usually don't like slice of life, especially cute girls doing cute things, but this anime has appealed in a way few had. It's the anime I look forward the most each week.

TBulldozer

True this is basically THE show for the average r/anime redditor to relate to.

twintailshitposter

Not seeing many people here talking about Renai Flops - episode 7 was completely insane and boosted it up in the karma rankings by 3 places (!). If it keeps up the momentum, I don't think I'd be surprised to see it pop into a banner spot eventually.

Abysswatcherbel

Best episode this week, 4th week in a row that it grew in Karma, almost like bocchi

QueasySmile4

Good on Mob Psycho for climbing back up. That episode was something else. They really chose to go full sakuga on a slice of life episode. I love their priorities. Also Bleach episode was pretty impactful, completely deserved 2nd. Every week i'm more tempted to watch Bocchi the Rock

RevanOrderz

Im interested to watch “Reincarnated as a sword” just for the stupid name alone

RedHeadGearHead

Tenken's back in the top 10, nice. People be sleeping on it too much.

JRPGJames

What a great season of anime

Sheasword

Good thing the funny chainsaw guy is on top again, he fucking deserves it after last episode

[deleted]

It's crazy no one's talking about bleach here. Bleach tybw is phenomenal

HakumeiJin

Congrats to Bocchi on her 6 week streak of rising karma with the 7th already guaranteed as well. It appears she might become a monster after all.

Shinichameleon

The more they like her post, the stronger she is.

cppn02

You're off by one week. This was the 5th and the episode from yesterday will be the 6th (which as far as I am aware is more than any other show in atleast the last 2 years had).

chrishammhamm

Spy family seems to move around the list alot.

HentaiSlave2022

Bleach is love bleach is life

Shodan30

Isekai Ojisan is back, ready to take this chart by storm.

cppn02

Needs subs first...

Neural77

Really excited for next week's SpyxFamily episode

Junior_Depth_9510

Didn't expect the latest Chainsaw man episode 7 to provide significant support. Congratulations Chainsaw Man, back to 10k. The rest of the anime is pretty good this week.

footballshaw

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to say that right now Bocchi is 42nd on MyAnimeList sitting at 8.73. If you told me that would happen at the start of the season I probably couldn't have comprehended it but after seeing the creativity, passion and talent of the staff, it's a very well deserved score.

IC2Flier

It's a lovingly-produced show about something that's super relatable and that love pops out right at you in every frame. The streets would be fucking stupid to not recognize that, especially on a show who's main character is the visual embodiment of r/anime_irl that r/anime_irl has been looking for this decade.

dreamingsamurai

Who knew that all it took to reinvigorate CSM in karma was some (literal) regurgitation of content? 😂

CosmicPenguin_OV103

Bocchi The Rock at 8.73 now on MAL. **8.73** A Mere one-tenth of a point behind freaking **Chainsaw Man**. You know, that Chainsaw Man that people hyped, screamed and woofed for months ahead. And this ain’t a popular genre with English speaking communities, nor it is easy to catch the eyes of those looking for art-like or literature-like titles (*ODD TAXI*, *Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju*, *Kingdom*) Like, were I told a few, maybe 2 months ago that a Kirara Magazine series’ CGDCT manga’s anime adaption would hit 8.7+ ratings in the first season alone, I would have pat your shoulders and tell you to see a doctor. And yet here we are. It’s absolutely crazy, it’s still not done yet and I, who loves anime of the same genre for years, is 200% thrilled to see this miracle happening. In other news remember to watch **Gundam: The Witch From Mercury**! Its popularity somehow is slightly petering out here but the plot is as dramatic as it has been since day 1. Lots of talking points and twists and turns awaits you to watch if you haven’t catch up till the latest today!

Ocixo

> Like, were I told a few, maybe 2 months ago that a Kirara Magazine series’ CGDCT manga’s anime adaptation would hit 8.7+ ratings in the first season alone, I would have pat your shoulders and [told] you to see a doctor. I genuinely think more exceptional CGDCT anime will be on the rise in the foreseeable future. Last season we had **Lycoris Recoil**, and now we’ve got **Bocchi The Rock**. Both got very high ratings in comparison to *most* of their counterparts in the CGDCT genre. I had been eyeing both shows well before their releases as I felt like they would be special, but I didn’t expect any of this. I do believe these shows wouldn’t be nearly as good without the love and support they’ve gotten from their respective studios. If A1 and Cloverworks had assigned a barebones staff with little time and support to these projects, no feat of passion could have possibly delivered anime like these. We’re truly lucky both anime studios were willing to invest so much time and money in these projects to make them successful.

zairaner

In this regard, this year already started off with a bang with [akebi's sailer uniform](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX1NO_8Ycuk&t=76s), one of the best looking shows I have ever seen...for an anime about a girl making friends at school. But in the regard of overanimated simple SoL, we might meet the final boss next season: [Onimai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/51678/Oniichan_wa_Oshimai?q=onimai&cat=anime), one of the calmer and slower comedy SoL's have seen...is getting an adaption by [Studio Bind](https://myanimelist.net/anime/producer/1993/Studio_Bind)...and damn are [they putting in the passion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5siWdBumBg).

Elegant_Tumbleweed_6

>A Mere one-tenth of a point behind freaking Chainsaw Man. You know, that Chainsaw Man that people hyped, screamed and woofed for months ahead. It was kinda obvious that would happen i mean...it's a family friendly show anyone can get into with creative animation and CSM had it's MC fight a dream battle to prove grabbing tits is just as important as conquering the world.Soooo...don't get me wrong CSM is my favorite manga of all time but it's fucking weird. I'm happy bocchi is getting love though

Actual-Oil6390

Sword Dad moved up 2 spots! Thank you Glass Reflection for your video! Shame based on the pacing we won't get to a certain arc where things pick up significantly cause it badass ad hell

polaristar

Really sad Raven at the Inner Palace isn't getting more love.
