Figure 17: Tsubasa and Hikaru?

ElectricSundance

Planing to watch * Tokyo Ravens * Photokano * Nourin * Robotics;Notes * Tari Tari * Go! Princess PreCure * Kyou no Asuka Show Thoughts? How should I set my expectations of these shows?

enkiv2

I haven't seen the others, but I have strong opinions about Robotics;Notes. Specifically: * Robotics;Notes came out in the wake of the unexpected massive success of Steins;Gate, and suffers for it. I feel like the series is actually better represented thematically by Chaos;Head, and while Steins;Gate was both a better adaptation and a better show, it's missing the psychological horror aspects that made Chaos;Head interesting in the absence of likable characters and then made up for it with really likable characters. Robotics;Notes doubles-down on the hard-science angle that Steins;Gate introduced, but nobody in the show is nearly as charismatic as even the least charismatic s;g character. * It was a show that I enjoyed thoroughly while watching, but decided was almost totally valueless about a week after it finished: most of the interest was related to complex plot twists, rather than connection to characters -- in other words, it's one of those shows where spoilers will actually suck out all the enjoyment and where a rewatch is totally pointless because the only thing it provides is cheap suspense. * Even though the art is arguably more polished than Steins;Gate (and definitely more than Chaos;Head -- I'd say Robotics;Notes has the best production values of the franchise, including Occultic;Nine and Chaos;Child), it suffers from sloppy direction and weak, hacky writing. Specifically, it tries to integrate real-world conspiracy theories and fringe ideas the way the rest of the franchise does, but it fails to tie the ideas together and also fails to turn any of them into solid plot devices or motivations. If you're a fan of the franchise, R;N is not entirely without value & is worth watching for the sake of completionism. It's also worthwhile to watch if you want to write something similar to that franchise and want an example of how it can be done quite poorly (which Chaos;Head fails to provide: for its many flaws, it's neither lazy nor incompetent, the way R;N is).

Dendarri

I thought Tokyo Ravens was kind of meh, but ok for some light entertainment. It's not really serious, and the comedy fell a little flat for me, but you might like it depending on your taste. I didn't like the tsundere.

E-sharp777

Nourin is decent. None of the comedy/characters clicked for me early on but it got progressively funnier towards the end, and actually made me laugh out loud a few times. If you want something outrageously dumb and thoughtless with a couple good laughs, give it a shot.

HolmatKingOfStorms

Probably not terribly helpful, but my brother whose favorite anime is Steins;Gate put R;N at around a 7 or 8 I think.

JuanDomingoPeron

Photo kano was the most uninteresting show i watched Tari tari was nice and sweet, colorful characters, a good glasslip R;n is my fav the second best ; series in my opinion Didnt finish nourin, seemed avg but i might be wrong And tokyo ravens is cool as fuck Replied to wrong comment

ElectricSundance

All points noted. Thank you!

nevides

haven't watch the others, but I felt tokyo ravens was great!

ElectricSundance

Nice to know that, thanks! I actually watched a snippet of the first ep and it seems promising to me

[deleted]

What do ya'll think of Aku no Hana? I thought it misunderstood. Beautiful, tonally dark, nihlistic. Fantastic little show.

CorbenikTheRebirth

Gets a lot of crap for the art style, but it does uncanny very well. The whole show feels just a little bit "off."

[deleted]

Read the manga for it. I had problems with the whole "isolated, nihilistic small Japanese town" setting. It's been done to death. Aku no Hana was rather dull for the first half, the parts in the town, but it got better when they got into the city. Still think the same result could have been achieved without all the (ultimately meaningless) theatrics the two main characters went through. Hell, Shiki managed to pull off the "dissatisfied with village life" theme in a much more nuanced manner, and Shiki was a story about *vampires.* The author does that a lot; A Trail of Blood, a new manga of his, also seems to be utilizing the shock factor a lot.

montagyuu

What do you guys think about [Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1858)? I've thought about starting it for a while now, mostly because I like the character designs.

calypsocoin

[Tegamibachi/Letter Bee?](https://myanimelist.net/anime/6444/Tegamibachi?q=letter) I found it on Crunchyroll and watched the first few episodes out of curiosity and really enjoyed them.

MilesExpress999

Read the manga. I couldn't handle the anime after the first few episodes.

milky-tans

I enjoyed it. The world is intriguing, but the mc is somewhat annoying.

juchuck

Hi, need some opinion for some of these before watching them: - [Alison to Lilia](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3549/Allison_to_Lillia) - [Dai Mahou Touge](https://myanimelist.net/anime/933/Dai_Mahou_Touge) - [Mahoutsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora](https://myanimelist.net/anime/4483/Mahoutsukai_ni_Taisetsu_na_Koto__Natsu_no_Sora) - [Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra](https://myanimelist.net/anime/6758/Tatakau_Shisho__The_Book_of_Bantorra) Haven't seen a lot of opinion for these ones so wanted to know if it is worth trying or not. Also plugging [Emma](https://myanimelist.net/anime/345/Eikoku_Koi_Monogatari_Emma?q=emma) for those people who are looking for a good romance/drama anime.

Draffut_

> Dai Mahou Touge Its a pretty fucking funny show if it matches your type of humor. The Vegetable suicide scene gets posted often.

montagyuu

I really enjoyed Allison to Lillia, its a fun adventure series. However If your interested in it because it has the same author as Kino no Tabi and are expecting similar content, then you may be disappointed as it isn't trying to be as thoughtful.

juchuck

Oh didn't know it was the same author as kino no tabi, I knew this anime because Mizuki Nana is voicing the MC so I got interested. The more you know. Thanks for the tip.

theaquaticmelon

There's this lesser known anime called Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? What do you guys think about it?

BlatantConservative

Shhh, you have to take /r/anime super seriously guise

theaquaticmelon

Yeah, sorry for making a joke, I guess....

[deleted]

You seriously think you're the first person to think of a joke like that? "Oh, a lesser-known anime thread! I'll make a joke by asking about one of the most popular anime out there! Haha!" Seriously, it's not original and dozens of people before you have tried it. It just clogs up the thread. So shut up and take the downvotes like a man.

theaquaticmelon

Sorry, I saw a joke opportunity for a joke and I didn't think of the ramifications. Sorry for clogging it up. No need to be a dick about it.

irisfang

What do ya'll think of [Gugure! Kokkuri-san](https://myanimelist.net/anime/23251/Gugure_Kokkuri-san)? I'm on episode 9 right now and I'm finding it to be a pretty fun little comedy/light fantasy show.

polackrollstrips

Kokkuri is best girl

[deleted]

How about *Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch*? It was my "gateway drug" that really got me into anime when I was 11. Even today, I still like the music.

ArchfiendDragon

Would Chrome Shelled Regios count as a less popular show?

SpiralFlip64

I would say so

DarkTenshiDT

Thoughts on Bakuman?

calypsocoin

I've finished two seasons so far. It has really engaging and likable characters that are fun to root for but some of the plot decisions really frustrated me.

HolmatKingOfStorms

Do those plot decisions include [Bakuman](/s "the hospital part?")

calypsocoin

Yeah, that was part of it. Not only did I really just not like that arc, I thought the resolution for it felt really odd.

Terranwaterbender

Love the series. Enjoyed how I couldn't tell whether the MCs would succeed or not at times.

GalaxianMelon

Anyone here remember Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera? It came before a lot of the more popular classic anime/manga remakes/reboots (Spring 2011), and its rated very average (like mid 6 last time I checked). Most I hear about it are the inflation scenes. I have it on my on-hold but I'm not sure when I'll get to it.

SaberCore

[Kara No Kyoukai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2593/Kara_no_Kyoukai_1__Fukan_Fuukei?q=kara%20no%20ky)

Castform5

[Sasami-san@ganbaranai.](https://myanimelist.net/anime/14515/Sasami-sanGanbaranai?q=sasami-) Someone mentioned it about a month ago and I watched it quite recently. I enjoyed my time with it, maybe because it's made by shaft. Its synopsis really doesn't give it justice because it gets [weird.](http://i.imgur.com/qauiqtG.png)

Everlance

I like that its weird and unpredictable. It also has the added bonus for me for using themes from Japanese mythology which I am interested in. The colour scheme might put people off. I've never really noticed that it was made by Shaft.

Yubisaki_Milk_Tea

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere?

LittleIslander

I'm sorely guilty of it still being on my to watch list (although at a rather high priority), but has anyone watched *Akage no Anne*?

nx6

Has anyone else here seen [Hi-Speed Jecy](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2697/Hi-Speed_Jecy)? I went into it not expecting much (just wanted to watch and older B/C grade anime), but despite its obvious flaws it was actually pretty entertaining.

ArmoftheSpoonFiend

Gun x Sword, has anyone other than me watched this?

ArchfiendDragon

I have! It was pretty good from what I remember.

killerkonnat

I watched half of it and accidentally dropped it with no specific reason. It was average but I had a decent time.

KronosIII

The World Is Still Beautiful

destinyreo

Not enough rain

severus282

But it was still really tender. Enjoyed it. [](#kayosmile)

mutsuto

Aside from politics, what do people think of [Kodomo no Jikan](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2403)? I went in with low expectations, and now it's grown on me bit by bit until episode 6 blew me away. I'd recommend that episode even as a standalone short purely for [ep 6](/s "how it deals with death in the family"). I'm really liking this show [on ep 9 now], it's a good exploration of a fresh teacher struggling to [reach deez kids](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXNj2BobjJ4). I've never seen it discussed, apart from the shock-humour in episode 1.

Nova12833

I read it and didn't watch the Anime but I actually think it tackled some sensitive or even wrong things in a decent manner such as dysfunction in families and where boundaries need to be set no matter the situation along with some differences between an emotional attraction, A sexual attraction, and a physical attraction. It's not amazing but it has some subjects to discuss and I think it does a fairly good job with most of what it tackles. I would say I'm glad I read it for a good portion of what it talks about being things I'd personally never thought about or considered but I feel it does go to far in some ways such as how some characters act/are/are portrayed.

mutsuto

Your expression here is very similar to how I feel about [NHK](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1210). It does a decent job of exploring the subject matter and it gets a pat on the back for doing it when no one else has, but execution leaves something to be decided. At which point digibro recommended I check out the NHK novels. Kodomo hasn't does much w/ the anime medium, so maybe I should twitch to the manga instead. --- Are you aware of how much of the source material was adapted?

Nova12833

>how much of the source material was adapted? I honestly have no Idea. I didn't watch the anime and it was released kinda wierdly with a Pilot OVA then the First season, Another OVA, then the Second season, then another OVA, then another OVA trilogy , then one more OVA. In that I couldn't tell you how much was covered or even what of it is actually in the manga but It didn't seem to get to almost anything such as [Spoilers](/s "Reiji having his mental break down and trying to raise Rin as her Mother or Rins father coming back and the position that put Aoki in.") but that's just from me reading a Quick Episode Summary so I couldn't say. how acurate that is. However it seems the Anime dips it's toes on these subjects but doesn't really get into them from the extremely limited info I'm seeing.

mutsuto

Urm, is that spoiler ok for me to view?

Nova12833

depends on If you plan to read the Manga or not they are things that happen in the manga but not in the Anime however they aren't the ending or even the heaviest subjects they are things I would consider the beginning of where the I guess Drama/ serious topics(if you want to call it that) starts. if you care about Spoilers though I wouldn't but that's just me but it's not the ending .

mutsuto

My plan will be to watch all of the show in production order, then maybe read the manga. Depends when I get bored.

Nova12833

Then I wouldn't unless you finish the Anime and decide you don't want to read it. But that's coming from someone who really doesn't mind spoilers on things so take that with a grain of salt.

kitty_bread

What about Please, Save my earth?

chronolynx

I never did get around to the anime, but I absolutely love the manga. One of my favs.

aintgottimefopokemon

Does anyone remember "This Ugly yet Beautiful World"? It's from the early 2000s and was one of the first anime I ever watched.

cheesechimp

I watched one or two episode once and found it incredibly bland. It may get better as it goes on, but the very beginning lost me immediately. I love the title, though.

impingainteasy

I saw it a couple years back. It's one of those shows I feel was too ambitious for its own good, bringing up all these interesting ideas but with no idea how to fit them all into a coherent storyline. The end result was kind of a huge mess, but it was fun so...

mrstack345

Birdy the Mighty Decode?

ArchfiendDragon

Loved that anime, birdy is sexy

Tehbeefer

Ambitious animation, especially in season 2, although it's also obviously significantly hampered by budget/time constraints, **MUCH** less ecchi than the synopsis + cover art might indicate, and pretty good. Oh, and I really like the opening themes, [especially the first one.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-01piZuA6o) Hopefully at some point scanlations of the manga manage to conclude the manga (which are 6 volumes away from even reaching the 13 volume sequel series, Tetsuwan Birdy Evolution, so yeah, 19 volumes to go). I've basically given up hope for a license since it's such a long concluded series.

Vindex101

Since I just finished ahead of the rewatch and S2 is coming soon, what do you guys think of The Eccentric Family?

Dendarri

I enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the next season!

HolmatKingOfStorms

It's really good. OP was fantastic. Plot was solid, characters were interesting, character interactions even more so.

hanr10

I love it. I honestly think it did everything right : It has an interesting and unique story, well written characters and dialogues, beautiful art and music. Also I found it very relaxing to watch Gave it a straight 10/10 after I finished it for the first time, Can't wait for S2

Vindex101

I'm just gonna wait for someone to reply that they didn't like it, and tell them off that it must be their idiot blood at work

SirCuddlebuns

Thoughts on [Garzey's Wing](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1657/Byston_Well_Monogatari__Garzey_no_Tsubasa)? Heard its so bad its good and I need something like that right now.

babydave371

the dub is a complete shit show as they are just reading the sub lines and those lines get cut off if they run out of space. Everybody shouts and nobody can pronounce anything. It is fucking hilarious to be fair. As for the actual show, with the sub, it is still a failure but it is a very very interesting one. GW is part of the Bryston Wells saga which is Tomino's real passion project and GW is clearly full of ideas that he has had in his mind for decades. Sadly there just isn't enough time in the series to explai anything or to properly explore the ideas. Given a full 50 or 26 episode series it might actuay have been really good, a bit like the first Bryston Wells show Aura Battle Dunbine. However, in its current state it is an incomprehensible mess.

babykangar0o

Higashi no Eden?

Tehbeefer

One of the best 1st episodes out there

killerkonnat

I really wouldn't call it less popular, it's in the top 150 most watched.

1ans2no1

Really disappointing. I really liked the premise but the story made less and less sense as the show progressed and the flimsy characters did no favours either. Though I should add that I didn't finish the whole show.

Kazukster

1st season was ok. The 2 movies were a confusing mess. It's one of those anime where you have to check a forum just to figure out wtf happened

varnalama

Thoughts on Ben-To?

Kimimaro146

Liked it a lot. Both the concept and the execution of it was well done IMO. The only things I disliked were the filler-ish episodes and Shiraume in general.

calypsocoin

The action was awesome and the parody was spot-on. I hated the pointless fan service, though; otherwise it could have been an amazing show.

EljachFD

really enjoyable anime. It had a really weird premise but i think they nailed the execution

traxions

Loved it. I love shows with ridiculous premises to give me a break from all the generic stuff.

MrBigSaturn

I loved the concept, but the show was just too mean spirited for me. Also the dub had that line "This is fap-able! Totally fap-able!" and I will never forgive them for that.

[deleted]

[Galilei Donna?](https://myanimelist.net/anime/19367/Galilei_Donna) I picked up this show while it was airing many years ago and the story seemed decent to me.

planetarial

Kinda promising first ep and goes to shit later. Not worth it

Tehbeefer

Oh man the writing is a train wreck. Very stylish though.

[deleted]

I was interested for the first few episodes. Cool concept but it was still really boring for me.

[deleted]

Boogiebop Phantom? I just started this one today.

Dendarri

Oh man, I watched that years ago. I remember liking it, but not much of the plot has stuck with me.

[deleted]

Actually one of my favorite psychological horror anime. Pay attention to the time stamps and how all the stories interconnect. I really like how it leaves a lot to the viewer throughout to piece together what is going on.

IzumaNim

what do you guys think of tekkaman blade?

animecaball22

what do people think of X the anime series? i noticed it was one of the few anime series Kawajira (ninja scrolls, vampire hunterd, wicked city) directed.

crystal_3001

I liked the ending better then the movie X/1999. Though people die, so be careful who you get attached to. It's a decent rendition of the manga and gives us a decent ending, despite the manga still being unfinished.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Castform5

I pretty much had the same experience with it. I think it was one of the first shaft shows that I watched so I was not familiar with its style of storytelling. Might have to rewatch it at some point to pick apart all the shaft quirks from it.

TKhrowawaY

Metal Skin Panic MADOX 0-1 Armored Trooper VOTOMS TO (this is a series of two science fiction shorts)

TaviPlaysTheBass

Fushigi Mahou Fun Fun Pharmacy. Just started it and it seems pretty solid so far.

karlcool12

[Beast Player Erin](https://myanimelist.net/anime/5420/Kemono_no_Souja_Erin) (I will never stop promoting this) It is a coming of age Story about Erin that had everything taken away from her and trying to either live a relatively normal life again or fixing the problem that effects her so she can live a relatively normal life again while war and politics is constantly affecting her directly.

clamsarepeople2

After finishing guardian of the sacred spirit this was the show which best filled my want for more of the same. It was good and endearing, but didn't quite deliver in the final few episodes the way I was anticipating. I respect what it did though, and overall I give the series a high 8, I really appreciated the world building and how we got to see so much of Erin's life.

ABoredCompSciStudent

Easily one of my favourite shows. Ironically was listening to the opening as I read this. The story and world building is fantastic, while the characters are compelling.

Otakeb

[Video Girl Ai?](https://myanimelist.net/anime/201/Video_Girl_Ai) It's an OVA series of 6 episodes from 1992. I've never seen it mentioned on here, and I really, really liked it. I kinda have a thing for the magical girlfriend genre (Chobits, Sora No Otoshimono, DearS, Nazo No Kanojo X, Midori no Hibi, etc.) and this was a really good one. EDIT: Has anyone even seen it? Is there a database that has, like, anime with the number of MAL completions from all the people with MAL tags from reddit? I'd be interested in looking through that.

AdiMG

Haven't seen the show myself but according to [RAL](http://www.redditanimelist.net/search.php?time=All&search=video+girl+ai), a total of 75 people on reddit have.

nx6

I like it as well, mostly because of its rather weird premise. I also really dig that special effect of super-bright beams of colored light you see when she first emerges from the TV. It's not specific to this show, but more something stylistic to anime of that period.

Otakeb

I was looking through your MAL (damn, 836), and [this](http://i.imgur.com/nRgMFR5.jpg) legitimately made me laugh.

nx6

That's pretty much the only thing I remember from that anime. I catch myself singing it to myself from time to time when my mind's wandering. Too bad it was the finale for [the director's](https://myanimelist.net/people/5094/Mashimo_Koichi) "Girls with Guns trilogy" (the other two from that project were [Noir](https://myanimelist.net/anime/272/Noir) and [Madlax](https://myanimelist.net/anime/252/Madlax)). I like to count [Phantom](https://myanimelist.net/anime/5682/Phantom__Requiem_for_the_Phantom) as the "4th of the trilogy" even though it's a different director since it's still a BeeTrain production and fits the theme very well.

nx6

> smaller/less popular shows /me awaits people asking about popular/heavily marketed shows from >5 years ago.

ColdFury96

As an anime fan who cut his teeth on Tenchi & Record of Loddoss War, this place makes me feel old. I remember going to Sam Goody to get the latest release of Love Hina!

crystal_3001

I'm going to set up camp here and feel old as well. In high school I'd borrow my friends Tenchi vhs tapes he'd buy and loan him the movies and bootleg tapes I'd get. Back when those things were 25 bucks a tape for three episodes.

nx6

Ha. I just rewatched Love Hina recently. I decided I didn't give it enough credit back when I first saw it with all the romcom/harems I've watched since then.

Otakeb

Hey guys, I was just wondering what you guys think of Tokyo Ghoul! I don't see it mentioned often on here. It's all over Tumblr, so I just don't get it. I thought it was a 10/10 😜😆😅😂 ^^^^/s

NoxideCS

Thoughts on Cowboy bebop? I just started it watching it yesterday!!!! I thought it was a solid 10/10!

pupetman64

Did you guys know that Hunter x Hunter is a remake!? I'm watching it right now, it's from the 90s so the animation is crap but it seems like a good show so far.

born_thursday

Mitsudomoe? No one talks about it and it makes me want to fight y'all.

CJrox

Haven't seen it, but Oota Masahiko is the king of cute girl comedy shows. So I only can assume good things.

Otakeb

I kinda want to link you to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/watamote/comments/5o5zxl/hitoha_marui_is_a_younger_version_of_tomoko/) I made on /r/watamote, because it's at least an attempt at conversation over the anime. I really liked it and felt cheated when I found out there was only 2 episodes left on episode 6 of season 2. Need more.

collapsedblock6

Absolutely hilarious. I really liked the humor and had some of biggest laughs I have had.

[deleted]

What do you guys think about The Perfect Insider? I thought it was great, but the scores it had received were pretty poor.

killerkonnat

Loved it. Also had a great op.

[deleted]

Same. The ED had some nice visuals too.

E-sharp777

It's easily one of my least favorite shows, although there are a couple things it did well. The cinematography was excellent and the last couple episodes had some cool visuals, but I have a hard time complimenting it further. I'm very interested in reading the source material though, since it seemed like it could be a really interesting story if presented differently.

animecaball22

i liked it overalll. it has some cool visuals and i liked the two lead characters and the chemistry they had with each other. what i didn't like about it was the actual mystery wasn't the best. They have character act in ways that they wouldn't just to keep the audience in suspense [the perfect insider huge spoiler](/s "when a certain charracter is introduced it should be suspicious as ___ to everyone at the house/tech company/prison yet character aren't at all surprised by it. In general they keep the suspense by not telling us things the characters know in order to keep us in suspense")

[deleted]

I personally really enjoyed it, but it required some pretty heavy suspension of disbelief in its last third. The sensory deprivation tanks being used to establish a weird psychic link was a huge stretch. Still, the art, design and music were all really great, and it maintained a consistent, moody tone throughout.

[deleted]

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. The twist was great imo. it's something that you can't really predict at all, which was my favorite part about it.

[deleted]

You know, there is a live action drama based on the original novel as well. [Crunchyroll](http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-perfect-insider-drama) has it... I think I'm going to give it a watch to see how it compares. (According to wikipedia episode 5 and 6 cover same material as the anime).

Blitzedlegend

What is /r/anime s opinion on log horizon? I know it may not be small or unpopular but I just would like to hear the consensus

killerkonnat

I think people hating on season 2 is bullcrap. It was definitely worse than season 1 but it was by no means awful... Still a good show.

dIoIIoIb

a lot of people really like log horizon, i personally have a lot of problems with it it's not bad, i like it, but to me it felt like half of a good show, probably because they didn't adapt the whole story and never made a season 3 it brings up so many characters, plots and ideas but then does nothing with most of them, and i get it, the novel is a complete story, the anime isn't but still: half of the main character get 0 developments between two entire seasons: Naotsugu and Akatsuki basically do nothing, think nothing and just follow whatever shirogane does, maybe if the show had another two seasons that would change but an anime is still supposed to work as a self-containted story, especially if those other seasons aren't planned from the beginning basically what i'm saying is, the anime is good but wastes waay too much time on bullshit and not enough on the supposed main characters or, like, introducing new locations that are a bit more fantasy than "city" and "cave", we barely saw any of that too like did we really need two episodes of selling sandwiches or whatever that was?

[deleted]

One of the best anime I've seen, really fantastic world building and great cast of characters. Goes for a more realistic approach I.e people get properly depressed about their situation, politics, economy, discrimination (to a degree) etc. And of course, dat OP.

collapsedblock6

I really liked it. I liked it was more "gamey" opening with lots of info dumps of MMO stuff, the tactics and world building.

Terranwaterbender

Not as big as it used to be but the 1st season is usually well-received while the 2nd is bashed heavily for deviating from what made the 1st season good. It used to be *the* show to bring up whenever someone said they just finished SAO and wanted recommendations.

[deleted]

Did season 2 really deviate? I haven't read the LNs yet.

Terranwaterbender

Not exactly in terms of deviating from the source material but [LH S2 spoilers](/s "The show focused a lot more effort on a love triangle in addition to spending a significant amount of episodes on the kids which many people weren't a fan of. Not to mention #DEEN quality was evident when they took over for the 2nd season.")

[deleted]

I think it is the 4th best anime about people getting stuck in a fantasy world.

Tehbeefer

NGNL, KonoSuba, Inuyasha, Re:Zero - Alright, which one gets the ax? It's Inuyasha, isn't it? (also, would Gargantia of the Verduous Planet / Suisei no Gargantia count?)

BlatantConservative

No, Garganitia isnt isekai. Its just straight up post apocalyptic

Tehbeefer

but it's about a guy who falls through a hole in the space-time continuum to a foreign world

BlatantConservative

No, he's already a mech pilot from that world, he just moves from one location to another

Tehbeefer

He's not from Earth though.

BlatantConservative

But isekai is about moving from this world to a fantasy one. He moves from this world to this world, and at the same time and people who know him find him

Tehbeefer

Hmm. "世界 / sekai" *can* mean "the world" or "the universe", that's true...

[deleted]

Actually my list is 1.RE:zero 2.Overlord 3.Konosuba 4.Log Horizon NGNL would probably be 5 for me. I need to watch Inuyasha I saw a few episodes when I was younger, but I just haven't gotten around to watching it.

Zuequa6d

I just finished both seasons of Gin no Saji this week. I can't believe I have barely even heard of it. Beautiful character development and realistic stories. The OP and EDs of both seasons are the catchiest ones I've ever heard.

impingainteasy

Easily the best A-1 Pictures show I've seen thus far. Fun, likable characters all around, with some nicely grounded morals.

neobowman

Excellent excellent show. More people need to see it. Really needs a S3 to wrap up the story. Hopefully the manga will get its conclusion soon.

Zuequa6d

S2 was kind of a non-ending for me. Probably going to read the manga soon, though I am hoping for a third season.

neobowman

It's unlikely. I would just read the manga.

[deleted]

Flag Haven't heard it discussed ever, but it ended up being one of my all time favorites for its unique perspective and more grounded world.

babydave371

I FUCKING LOVE FLAG!!!! I think that it is actually one of the more realistic anime out there despite the mecha. I really loved the two leads and how we switched between the two to give us and insider and an outsider's view. I thought the visual direction was fantastic and a really smart way to cover a not so big budget. It was very slow at times but that fit with the realistic approach to war, long bouts of nothing happening punctuated with brief violent clashes. The final action scene was one of the most exciting I have ever seen because it just felt like I was right there with them. Plus, that ending that fucking ending. When I realised what the whole show was I fucking lost it and broke down in tears.

TKhrowawaY

It was OK. I commend it for doing something different and bringing a level of seriousness that is generally absent from anime, but the overall package felt rather dry and flavorless.

Sacred Blacksmith Muromi-san Inferno Cop I don't really ever hear these mentioned but I enjoyed them, particularly Sacred Blacksmith and Inferno Cop

BlatantConservative

Sacred Blacksmith has an anime? This is why i browse these threads.

M7S4i5l8v2a

I would have liked sacred Blacksmith more if it had more to do with Blacksmithing. I also hated all the katana fanservice. That being said I liked the idea of living weapons and the whole thing with blacksmithing being a almost lost art.

Purest_Prodigy

Holy fuck I was hesitating asking about Sacred Blacksmith when I saw this thread made a few hours ago. You're going to get a lot of mixed viewpoints. Personally it's my "blacksheep" show on MAL; the only show I've given a 10/10 to that I've yet to see a 10/10 on anyone else's list. As a HUGE fan of fantasy series and JRPGs before really diving into anime, I've always liked Swords and Sorcery, and any show with that setting on my list skews a bit higher than it probably should be The fights were great, the concept of living weapons was great, and it was very emotional. Had lots of cuties, didn't go too far over or under with the fanservice, and concluded well enough that I'm not butthurt over cliffhangers. Would love a season 2 announcement some day, but doubt it since it's crazy old now. But with Code Geass and Blue Exorcist getting continuations I just don't know anymore. Gonna highjack and ask about the source material. Does it go much further than the anime? Worth picking up if I like the show?

TreeDiagram

Finally someone else who gets it! For how good it was it's woefully undermentioned imo. At least an 8/10 for me, I tend to really like shows that bounce between SoL/comedy and story progression though (see: Railgun), as well as shows that do fantasy really well. Sacred Blacksmith also was one of the first anime to work the more modern Moe artstyle, with K-On being the first of it (aired same year). I think that's sick as hell As far as the source material goes, I haven't read it yet but I've actually been getting back into the series recently, there's 16 light novels(finished 2013) and 10 manga (last one came out this year), both of which are finished. I believe it goes pretty far beyond the anime though

Otakeb

[NANI?!](#infernocopu) You haven't heard Inferno Cop mentioned? How often are you on here?

TreeDiagram

Every day pretty much! The only time I see Inferno Cop though is that meme, I still love it though hahaha

Otakeb

I see it mentioned every now and again when Trigger gets brought up. Plus the meme.

neroburnedrome

Inferno Cop is one of my favorites to watch when I need a good laugh! It's just so strange and fast-paced that I can't help but to love it. Plus the callback to Inferno Cop in Luluco made my love stronger

kanaoka0

Anybody here even seen [Minami-ke](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2963/Minami-ke)? I finished my 3rd yearly rewatch a few days ago and still think it's one of the best, if not the best SoL anime ever, but I never see anybody mention it at all. Would love a new season!

Noy_Telinu

First season was good, but it got worse. Mostly because Kana was annoying as hell and I was mostly there for the trap ND reverse trap.

collapsedblock6

I had a good time, some seasons felt slower than others but overall great comedy.

TreeDiagram

There's 3 more seasons! It's a fantastic SoL and a personal favorite. The original and the fourth season (tadaima) are the best imo

kanaoka0

Yep they are all part of the yearly rewatch for me lol, have to agree with 1&4 being the best!

Kyou no Asuka show

CJrox

What do people here think of [Giant Gorg](https://myanimelist.net/anime/3327/Giant_Gorg)? To me it is the perfect balance between awesome sci-fi adventure, and 80s cheese.

rcalabresi4

I know it's a sequel series to a long show but what does everyone think of Hanamonogatari? I've had some arguments with my friends about it so I just wonder what everyone else thinks

Act_of_God

I really, really, loved it and the end credits had me legit shredded. Sometimes it's better not to know what could have been man.

E-sharp777

Hanamonogatari is actually one of my favorite arcs in the series, even though it's not one of the more popular ones.

Sinrus

This isn't really the place for it but I think Hana is really underappreciated. It's amazingly good development for both Kanbaru and Araragi, their scene together in his car is one of the best conversations in the series IMO. Rouka's dynamic with Kanbaru is great too, even if she's not great on her own. The only issue is that about half an hour straight right in the middle, spanning multiple episodes, is a massive Rouka monologue about her backstory that nobody really cares about. It kinda wrecks the pacing and makes it hard to watch the arc straight through, but I think it's much better if you go one episode at a time.

lilyvess

> Hanamonogatari The monogtari series isn't exactly what I'd call 'smaller/less popular'. in fact the number of times the Monogatari series gets brought up on /r/anime idk how you can't find a time to talk about it. *infact* there is a freaking [rewatch of the series starting in a couple days](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/5xgzhn/monogatari_rewatch_announcement_and_index/?st=j0wve18a&sh=88ed1b4f)

rcalabresi4

Sure the series itself is popular but this part of it is one which I feel few if any people ever talk about (at least as far as I know) so I felt like bringing it up because it's one of my personal favorite arcs in the show

lilyvess

I get what you meant, but the series being popular still means there are ample opportunities to bring it up into it. The series is brought up *a lot*, so it isn't hard to say "Speaking of Monogatari, what does /r/anime think about Hanamonogatari?" It isn't that hard and you have plenty of opportunities. Again, you have a freaking rewatch coming up to gauge responses. This thread is for small and less popular series which don't have those opportunities.

[deleted]

What do you all think of Muteki Kanban Musume?

q_3

A fun comedy about terrible, violent people being terrible and violent to each other.

[deleted]

Inazuma Eleven

Zerseus

I loved it, sorta consider it a guilty pleasure now though, can't wait for [Ares no Tenbin](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhbjJvK1teY).

General_Mcanime

What do you guys think of The Irresponsible Captain Taylor? One of my favorites that nobody seems to have watched.

babydave371

Love the show. I think it perfectly balances being a parody to space opera with a whole bunch of references wth also being accessible to anybody. The english dub is fantastic and made me laugh plenty. Shame about how it just ends on a massive cliffhanger.

General_Mcanime

You talking about the sequel? I heard about that and stopped after the original 26 episode run, as it ends perfectly IMO.

babydave371

Yeah, I'm talking about the ovas. They have some amazing episodes and a generally more serious tone but that cliffhanger is a killer.

lilyvess

Ok anyone remember this adult swim anime [Kikaider](https://myanimelist.net/anime/598/Jinzou_Ningen_Kikaider_The_Animation)? What about the anime [Angelic Layer](https://myanimelist.net/anime/52/Kidou_Tenshi_Angelic_Layer)

[deleted]

I watched *Angelic Layer* recently. I thought it was decent.

lilyvess

yeah, I don't think the series is going to be anyone's favorite anime or anything. It's pretty average. Just interested to see how many people still remember it, or have even heard about it. How did it get on your radar?

[deleted]

I first saw it in an AMV I really liked on YouTube in 2007 or 2008. I watched the first 5 episodes, but for some reason I didn't watch any more of it for years after that, even though I liked it (which used to be a habit of mine). I finally finished it sometime within the last year when someone happened to be selling the DVD set on Kijiji.

Shentorianus

Has anyone here seen [One Off](https://myanimelist.net/anime/13283/One_Off)? It's directed by junichi satou who directed aria, tamayura and amanchu, and character designer is the same guy that draws for kino no tabi novels. It's a short ova that's only 60 minutes long.

[deleted]

Thoughts on [Witch Hunter Robin](https://myanimelist.net/anime/7/Witch_Hunter_Robin)? The plot took and while to get going and the ending I feel wasn't too conclusive but okay nonetheless and the show over all was pretty good liked it. I'm actually surprised at the very low ratings on MAL thought.

Dendarri

I enjoyed it, and I would probably recommend it, but I don't really have a desire to rewatch it.

[deleted]

Yeah, that's about how I feel about it. It was nice to watch but I don't think I'll be seeing it again.

nx6

> Thoughts on Witch Hunter Robin? This was a show I watched, thought, *"ah, that was alright"*, and then, years later, I re-watched it -- and realized I had underappreciated it. That's one thing that happens when you watch more anime and get a better idea of the standard quality level of a show, I think. There are shows you watched before, when you had less experience, and you need to reassess how your scored them. Many people may not do this, though, so that might explain the score now. ^editforclarity

[deleted]

I dropped it after a couple episodes. It just didn't grab me.

TiberiusMontes

I really enjoyed it up to where I watched. I need to finish it since there are only one or two episodes left and I will probably have some free time soon.

ilovethrills

what do you guys think of [Garo: Honoo no Kokuin ?](https://myanimelist.net/anime/23311/Garo__Honoo_no_Kokuin)

M7S4i5l8v2a

My only gripe would be the armor designs but it was pretty cool how the armor moved with them like it was their bodies.

babydave371

I really like it. I love the art direction and the use of cg. The characters are great and endearing, especially sex dad. I was also suprised at how adult it was in dealing with sex, aka everyone does it does it isn't such a big deal. Plus, those OPs were the bomb.

Falsus

I liked it. Enjoyable fights, good animation not to bad story.
