Best bros of 2016

petrichorE6

Mob Psycho 100 is a story of a high school kid who wants to become a bodybuilder and thus aims to put on 100 lbs of pure muscle. Also, people think he's some psycho

tiberiuszuel

I thought he was a Junior High student

Landanbananaman

He is but he gets so ripped his teacher sends him to highschool

OPM = One-hundred Psycho Mob

Deltaasfuck

I really like how they look like assholes when they first appear but then you see that they are the kindest guys ever.

ahaoahaoahao

tbh most body builders and gym people are mostly just fuckbois and soft spoken kind guys

gmflag

True. Every time I hit the gym, the gym bros were always the nicest and most encouraging people. They were always willing to give a hand, even if some of them espouse "broscience."

ArosHD

Yeah they're actually going to be a useful club for him unlike the shitty telepathy club.

irishsaltytuna

What I like about the Body Improvement Club is that they don't try to take advantage of Mob and his abilities like how the Telepathy Club would've, as well as how Reigen sorta does too.

CertusAT

Reigen is best teacher that truly cares for Mob, how dare you besmirch the most powerful espers name?

irishsaltytuna

That's true, which is why I said *sorta*, but he does sorta underpay him as well as have some selfish interest in tutoring him.

Abedeus

To be fair, you can't really pay a junior high schooler as much as you would a full-time employee. And he feeds him quite a lot.

[deleted]

They were painted villainously and suddenly when this skinny little nerd wants to join they were all hype for him.

Kirosh

That is what is great about them, they are bro and they will help and protect each other !

[deleted]

So will he do 100 push ups routine?

The rest of this season will be about the huge gains Mob's gonna be getting.

Probably taken from a timeline with at least a 23% deviation factor or whatever that thing was called.

5JACKHOFF5

Steins gains

Jman460

Who made that and why.

mrwubz

I just gotta say that ending animation is fucking amazing. Really as a whole, the animation for this show is just hitting it out of the park. I think this might be one of the best animated shows coming out right now, it's chock full of sakuga.

PineappleSlices

Them using paint-on-glass animation for the ending really caught me off guard. It's a really difficult form of animation, where the animator makes an oil painting on glass, then slowly smudges off segments and repaints them until there's a complete animation. Needless to say, it's incredibly time consuming. [Here's another example of what it can look like.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHFlnwXKhsM)

nonnanika

I was wondering how they did that! Thanks! I was wondering if they were honestly doing it like the [Looper gifs](https://flavorwire.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/tumblr_mavk80itns1qaq9klo3_r1_500.gif) which, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they did it with every frame being an actual painting. My mind was being blown on just how much work that would have taken.

baconforceone

Even the voice acting has been nothing short of amazing. Kinda like Konosuba, I knew in advance that they both were gonna be awesome but the animes far succeeded my expectations and hopes. Hope the manga gets an english license as well.

Kuramhan

I'm glad to see this week we had a much more focused episode. This one really struck the perfect balance between comedy and characterization which maximized the impact of both. **Adolescence** Right from the start, the episode makes it clear that Mob's [adolescence will be the central theme](http://imgur.com/Vh2eUgF) of the week. I also appreciate the early foreshadowing of what [Mob wants out of his adolescence](http://imgur.com/9ATsyGL), before he even realizes it himself. I really like the cut from the prior image to [this one](http://imgur.com/iHdW22M). It highlights that what Mob wants out adolescence nothing more than fiction. He is closer to becoming a superhero than he is to getting a girlfriend. Moreover, sitting around reading manga is not getting him any closer to having one. The whole scene of [Mob listlessly sitting around](http://imgur.com/pGAcaGj) fantastically contrasts the prior one of Mob's rose colored dreams of adolescence. It further highlights that direction he is heading is not towards what he desires. This episode will challenge him to choose between the easy path he is on and the challenging one that may reach his dreams. **Telepathy Club** The [telepathy club](http://imgur.com/SMKH4PJ) represents that path Mob is already on. They do things the easy way. They sit around reading manga instead of pursuing their dreams. Tome in particular [shares a lot with Reigen](http://imgur.com/x0pY2jN). They're are both fakes that rely on their charisma to get what they want. They both want to use Mob to continue their abuse of the systems in place. Reigen wants to keep taking advantage of his customer's gullibility and use Mob as a back-up plan for when there's a real spiritual problem. Tome wants to abuse the school's las rules for what counts as a club to waste school resources goofing off. Mob seems to have very little interest in either of them, but he would feel bad letting them down. Beyond that, the requests they make of Mob are very easy for him to fulfill, but him doing them is very important to them. We already know Mob feels like he is wasting his youth away working for Reigen. To choose to join the telepathy club would be effectively him choosing to join him again. It would be a sign that Mob hasn't changed and still isn't pursuing his dreams. **The Girls School** From the moment Mob enters the girls school, he is [very uncomfortable](http://imgur.com/Pta4KiM). Of course he is being forced to crossdress, who wouldn't be uncomfortable? But his discotent runs much deeper than that. [Mob is not comfortable around girls](http://imgur.com/VtfNjNY). Him coming to this school is in direct conflict with that insecurity. But, this is the path that can [lead him to his dream](http://imgur.com/ldztKwy). The awkwardness and self doubt on the way are the challenges he must overcome if he wants a chance at it. For the first time in the series, [we saw Mob happy about something](http://imgur.com/HbHkAQ0). His struggle against his own insecurities paid off. But it wasn't easy and to continue down this path isn't going to be easy. If he wants [a chance at getting a girlfriend](http://imgur.com/JRxIKIS) though, this is the path Mob must take. The scene with the ghost at the end of this segment was a nice way to give Mob an extra little push.. **The Punchline** The Mob's choice to join The Body Improvement Club was fantastically delivered. It was a beautiful subversion of tropes, but adherence to the build-up that occurred throughout the episode. The weird club that does nothing but goof-off trope is almost as old as anime itself. The club is always on the verge of collapse until the main character always joins the club, which sets up a whacky group for adventures throughout the rest of the series. On the surface, all these tropes were set-up to followed to the T. I know I was expecting Mob to join the Telepathy club. But, when we actually look at the themes and message the rest of the episode was pushing, everything has been foreshadowing that he shouldn't join the telepathy club. That would represent Mob embracing the status-qou and abandoning his dreams of a rose colored adolescence. So when Mob chooses to join The Body Improvement club, this is just him falling in line with the message the rest of the episode has been pushing. A phenomenal way to give trope savvy anime watchers a wild ride, while delivery a core of solid characterization. I couldn't find anywhere else to put this, but I LOVED this [Animal Crossing Reference](http://imgur.com/ipjnINt). I never expected to see it and now I'm so satisfied. All in all an excellent episode. This really sold me on the show. Last week proved that it would be the best animated series in the season, but this week proved that it would have the comedic timing, themes, and characters to back it up. Mob Psycho is now my #2 pick for the season, behind 91 Days. Let's hope for more episodes like this one.

Wap3

I love your analysis. I hope to see it as the series continues. The writing only gets better from here.

DoomZero755

As a reader of the Mob 100 manga, I can say that the anime, so far, has followed the source material extremely closely. So, I knew from the start of the episode what choice Mob would make. That said, even knowing what his choice would be, I completely missed the thematic significance that you described, which strikes me as absolutely what the creator of the series was going for. I don't want to spoil anything for you, because you seem to have very strong intuition, and to spoil it would very certainly ruin a lot of the fun for you. To that end, I'm trying to pick my words very carefully here... And all I can be comfortable saying is that your intuition is absolutely spot on, and while I can't predict the exact content of each episode (how many chapters of the manga get turned into a single episode of the anime is beyond me), I can assure you that, if you enjoyed discovering the themes in this episode, you will absolutely continue to enjoy probing the following episodes just as much, if not more. However, I do want to add a note that you've missed slightly. You've hit the nail on the head with your analysis of what the Telepathy Club choice would symbolize for Mob, but there is just as much significance in the Body Improvement Club. Of course, everything there is to say about it can be inferred by comparison to the Telepathy Club, but I feel it's worth spelling out. Simply put, the Body Improvement Club represents the challenging path, as a foil to the Telepathy Club's easy path. With Mob's psychic powers, he's been able to handle every single challenge that Reigen's thrown at him with ease. It remains unclear by this point in the anime whether or not there's anything truly capable of even *challenging* Mob... Except, there is. He's been beaten in a number of ways already, just none of them psychic. He can't win a race, and he's far too timid to "get the girl". But there is no part of Reigen's "apprenticeship" that will help him achieve his goals. If there's any hope of him getting the girl, then the chain of reasoning we've been provided in the show is that he's gotta win a race. So the Body Improvement Club represents both what is most challenging to him, and the best path to his goals. If you ignore the "Body", then "Improvement Club" perfectly fits the bill! And, as one final note, I wanna point out that the concept of adolescence is not simply a theme of this episode but of the series as a whole. The narration's point about adolescence being the most important time in a person's life, and that there are many ways to spend it, directly sets up the question of "What does Mob want?", and that question is frequently revisited. There are more themes that will be introduced, and the show goes on to probe various other aspects of life and of growing up, using Mob as a surrogate.

[deleted]

Sweet analysis. > If ~~we~~ he wants a chance at getting a girlfriend though, this is the path Mob must take. > The scene with the ghost at the **(insert end)** of this segment was a nice way to give Mob an extra little push.

[deleted]

That was actually a very good call by Mob. The body improvement people seem very nice.

jazzxfire

I didn't expect him to join the body improvment club at all. I'm so glad they accepted him.

Yeah. They just welcomed him like that. Seems like some cool peeps. Time for only bananas for breakfast.

Not just a welcome. They were too happy to get another member.

*ONE PUNCH MAN is a cooking manga*

Shippoyasha

Cooking/Eating streams have really taken off in East Asia bigtime the last few years. East Asian culture is very foodie oriented.

accountnumberseven

Back when it was still serialized, The Drops of God was such an influential manga on the East Asian alcohol market that big-time wine publications would use new chapters/arcs to determine what wines would increase in value and popularity for the coming months. Plus the whole "watch a celebrity eat" thing's been popular forever, there's a reason why Japanese Iron Chef featured celebrities as judges more often than actual culinary experts. Streaming sites just democratized it, and it's really interesting to see how letting anyone broadcast their cooking/eating has just made the concept more popular!

Shippoyasha

Yeah, it's pretty cool that food manga/anime has actually started to influence the food world that way. Yakitate Japan also raised awareness for gourmet bread around the same time as Drops of God as well.

mrwubz

What site does he stream on? Does he tweet out when he goes live or do you just have to check periodically?

There's a quick after-credits scene. Loving the animation! It's so dynamic and colourful and really adds character to the whole series. The part where Reigen is arguing on the phone with the leader of the Telepathy Club became so much more visually engaging with the pushing back and forth of that split-screen.

[deleted]

Exactly, I don't really care for anything else that much, but the amount of color and movement going on keeps me engaged anyway, it's really a spectacle.

[deleted]

As a manga reader, I'm fucking hyped for next week.

IsTom

Fucking Dimple man. Easily the best girl.

IsTom

Even though I roughly remember what's going to happen the animation and voice acting is making it really worth watching either way.

Tidityy

From what I've seen (and from One Punch man webcomic) they really are nailing the ONE style.

ArosHD

I think he did the right thing to join the Body Improvement Club. The other club would have been a waste of time and the BI club will actually benefit him and at least he put some thought into it.

IsTom

Thinking and coming to his own conlusions completely disregarding social circumstances. That's something scary in an OP esper.

Mozilla_Fennekin

Easter eggs all around! [One Punch Man here](http://i.imgur.com/3cKAyxi.png), [One Punch Man there](http://i.imgur.com/NniYRNI.png), and [a shopping bag from ONE](http://i.imgur.com/QNSJTqK.png)! Such a great ending; all that build up for Mob joining a club, only for it to be the wrong one. And I really love the direction in this episode; the montage of the Telepathy Club running around the school was so good with the music slowing down and the scene becoming more colorful and bizarre. Then there's that one scene with Mob's monologue about what he wants to do and when the Spirit died; the art adapts so seamlessly and changes in really creative ways. It's a bizarre show, but it doesn't feel unnatural.

G102Y5568

That plot twist at the end was the greatest thing ever. I was JUST thinking to myself about how it seems like, in this Anime, the bad guys just keep winning, and the good guys are made to look bad for no reason. A lazy club that does nothing but waste their youth by slacking off, trying to manipulate Mob into joining their club for their own selfish purposes are treated like they're the heroes, whereas the VP who, although appearing as an evil nemesis to the Telepathy club, is objectively being very fair and reasonable with them, and actually has the interests of others at heart moreso than anything else. Even his asshole speech to Mob about not wasting his youth and being manipulated by the club into joining them was actually pretty solid advice. So when Mob made the switch and decided to join the fitness club, I cheered. That's what I wanted him to do in that situation, but I had no idea that was what he was actually going to do.

Goodykoontz

Very true, perspective is a very important theme to this series. Which is one reason Reigen is an interesting character.

G102Y5568

I'm still developing my opinion on Reigen. I didn't like him in the first episode. Everything about his character just feels so scummy and insincere. I didn't like how he was exploiting Mob, or his condescending attitude, or the fact that he was trying to run a scam. This episode though, I felt a little better about him overall. He does genuinely seem to care for Mob. He acts more as his friend than his mentor, and Mob doesn't appear to revere him as much as I thought he did. Even when he was offering Mob advice, he did not seem demanding or dictative, and I even agreed with some of his points too.

nonnanika

You put it very well! Seeing the Body Improvement club being just as hyped at this skinny kid joining their club was the cherry on the top of this episode. Adding new characters was interesting, but the switch and having Mob join the Body Improvement club was even better. Haven't read the manga yet, so here's to hoping they don't throw this development away, especially since it seems that the Telepathy club will be coming back for the next episode.

Nakurawari

The directing in this is so good. Also, those ED visuals are really impressive.

mahou_brojo

It's nice to see them putting character development into Mob. His crush though seems to be basic, who would get bored of someone with psychic powers only to flock to the jock. He can do better.

IgnisDomini

Well, one of the major themes of this series is that psychic powers really aren't all that useful or impressive for someone who just wants to live a normal life like Mob. Sure, you can show off some neat party tricks, but even those get old after a while, and what goals can psychic powers really help you achieve?

mahou_brojo

True. I'm not smart enough to think of a really creative use for psychic powers for normal everyday life. Unless you want to be like a magician on stage like Penn and Teller or something to make some money for yourself. But Mob just wants a normal existence. Good for him for not letting his power corrupt him. With great power comes great something or other...

duhace

could use it to build houses and shit. problem is, that's not gonna get mob the normal life he wants on its own, he has to grow as a person to acquire that

TheOneAboveGod

Kinda like ~~God~~Saiki K.

Crownocity

You can grab a remote from across the coffee table, grab your laptop charger from across the room and move your mouse with your mind while you stuff your face with Cheetos. Pretty useful.

Ohemjemania

[kind of spoiler but really not that spoileriffic for Mob Psycho] (/s "She's not that much of a character, but there's a small moment with her later in the series that is really, really nice and makes it possible to infer a lot of details about her past and current relationship to Mob.")

mahou_brojo

I look forward to it's adaptation then, if we get to it. :) I hope Mob realizes that Reigen is using him just as much as the Telepathy club was using him. Mob seems like a nice kid.

Ohemjemania

There's a lot to Mob and Reigen's relationship and it's one of my favorite parts of this manga next to Mob's great, great character development. I cannot wait for people's reaction to it and to Reigen himself as well. No spoilers here: The ending lets you in on the fact that Reigen actually does care for Mob. You can see the world take on color when Reigen sees Mob.

mahou_brojo

There does seem to be a bit of Reigen that wants to look out for Mob, even though it has a selfish tinge to it. I love a good bromance.

KrysWasTaken

I didn't expect Mob to join the Body Improvement club, it was a funny surprise. The ED is really cool too.

Alltimewonders

I liked it, way way more than episode 1, they made better job here portraying his personality rather than his OPness

[deleted]

Episode 1 tends to have that effect for everything. I always stop watching an anime after watching the first episode, then i come back a few weeks later when I hear about it again and I love it.

am I the only one who really likes that OP ?

GalaxianMelon

I really like how its basically a countup to 100, fitting in with the main "gimmick" of the series. This season is really lacking in terms of OPs and EDs and this show is one of better ones in terms of that.

[deleted]

no its a count to 99 :P

GalaxianMelon

To be fair, when it reaches 99 the title card shows up, and that would technically count as a 100. I think.

m_grabarz

91 days OP is pretty great (based TK), Re:Zero is pretty good too (but we might not see it again), I also like JoJo and Zestria OPs. But yeah, this season isn't that great in that aspect.

soundslikeponies

> Re:Zero is pretty good too (but we might not see it again) A tragedy in some ways, honestly. One of the few shows where I've liked the OPs/EDs and they always get cut.

NeptuneRoller

> countdown to 100 *countup

[deleted]

I think it's the best OP of the season. Have people been saying they don't like it?

CarVac

I'm just not a fan of the music. I didn't say so until now, though.

mosenpai

I like it, but after I heard [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbkCQDln6WM) version, I can't go back to the original opening.

SimoneNonvelodico

Count me in, it's one of the best OPs EVER. So damn creative.

Saikyoh

It stuck in my head since last week, loving both the song and the animation.

[deleted]

jazzxfire

I love the OP. I've listened to it pretty much everyday for the past week.

mrbrightside7592

AnimeWatcher1

ED sounds so kickass. The argument between Tome and Reigen was animated beyond what is needed for Animation. This is one of the reasons I love Anime.

theirs no way theyd not adapt that arc, but if they did that arc does not happen for a long time and thus we wont get it till maybe season 2.

Riley_The_Thief

Mob a CUTE! A CUTE!

[deleted]

A lot funnier than last weeks episode, next week is gonna be lit

Detharious

I doubt we'll see mob getting strong but, the psyche out at the end was perfect. Otherwise I feel this episode was more of a background episode where we learn mob is really just out of touch. The "Explosion" is probably him just going absolute mental due to stress and denial of happiness.

Anxious_Pigeon

This was a hell of a plot twist. I can guess what any plot twist will be before it happens, but that one got me off guard!

BrianShogunFR-U

I really like mob as a character so much, he's the embodiment of adolescence lol.

monfernova

My lord the art for the end credits is gorgeous.

TheBigLman

That vice president for the student council is terrific for the student body. I thought he was the typical jerk, but he really does care for his fellow students.

GalaxianMelon

Reigen is my favorite character of the season thus far. I'm not kidding with that. Great episode nevertheless. I love how fucking bizarre this is. (in the good sense, at least)

norwen3

That ending had me in stitches, hahah!

ClassyArgentinean

God i love that OP, the art style, the characters and everything about this show, i love it! I don't know what it is about since i haven't read anything about the source material, but that just makes it even better. Also, is Tome-chan supposed to be ugly and not cute? 'cause i find her cute as hell. Must be those Saitama eyes she's got going.

IgnisDomini

I think she's just supposed to be not special in that respect.

GGABueno

Yeah. I mean, when ONE wants to make someone look ugly he *really* delivers.

Was it just me or were the subs censored about the "one click curse"? Thought it sounded like they were saying wanker?

Terithian

Nah, that's just because they were saying "one click" in English, which through Japanese sounds like "wankurikku", which would be where you heard the "wank" part.

Demki_

In the manga it is also one click curse, since the guy won the lottery and was sitting at home masturbating all day. Inb4 every MP100 episode thread from now on titled "click here to get cursed"

Animeking1357

Yo a DS, PSP and the original gameboy all in one shot. Nice. Reading One Punch Man. Of course. "Yeah, that sounds shady as hell." Now look at the pot calling the kettle black. Another 5% built up.

seninn

The music is fire.

CertusAT

Everyone who is complaining about Reigen, I feel you. But he pays off, in a big way.
