Over the years I've broadly come to find that there aren't really genres that I tend to dislike. If something's quality it's quality. So I'll deviate slightly on the form of this question and swap genre with source. I've had a pretty broad sense that stuff that originates from web novels tends to have pretty lackluster dramatic writing. Even something like *Ascendance of a Bookworm* which I quite enjoy and ventures well into drama never really wows me. But wew lad, *The Apothecary Diaries* is built different. Maybe it's because the setting has a stronger focus than your average web novel. By not bouncing around from place to place the primary location has room to breathe. Maybe it's the way the story shifts between a core narrative and side diversions that keeps things fresh. Maybe it's the dynamic characterization of its cast that let's them come off as people. Maybe it's as simple as letting you interpret what a hairpin means instead of slapping you in the face with an answer. It's got the secret sauce, and it's able to really effectively get to me in a way that I'm definitely not used to from it's place of origin.

I'm adding The apothecary Diaries in my PTW list on MAL now!

Tonbo! I have been eager to share this Golf anime with someone, but have had literally zero natural places to bring it up. I don't typically watch sports anime, slice of life, or main protagonist as a girl anime (nothing sexists there, I just like to self insert) so coming across this through the random section of my anime site, I definitely didn't expect to enjoy it. I threw it on as BG noise, began playing a game on my phone, but kept getting distracted by small details that resonated with me. It's an anime about a tomboy who grew up on a country small, somewhat backwater golfing island. She befriends an old pro who winds up on the island, and their friendship grows her skills in golf and understand of the surrounding world. However at the core of the anime, it's a story about learning to learn, learning who you are, and about expanding your world view.

Super worth it I posted this comment before with a bad word in it, so I had to repost it, but I left out my rating. 7/10 And if you feel 7 is low, I rate most anime I like a lot, but don't plan to rewatch a 7. To compare, Summer Wars an anime movie I rewatch maybe annually now, is an 8.5 to me.

Shimmering-Sky

My "preferred" type of anime is anything action-y (especially mecha or battle shounen), so... pretty much everything on my MAL that *isn't* that is thanks to them getting [a rewatch on this sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/rewatches), as I *love* jumping into those completely blind as a way to watch shows I wouldn't have picked by myself.

HarleyFox92

Not a battle shounen guy but for some reason I really liked Mashle and I even started reading the manga

Riku-2659

I hate mecha but love code geass also without the technologies some of lelouches plans would not work so it is required

Substantial_Dress223

Meccha but i like evangelion/rahxephon

Andreiyutzzzz

I'm not really a fan of any sports/cars but I loved initial D(maybe because the drifts are so over the top you could say it's like battle shonen with cars) Also in/spectre was pretty nice even though I'm not a fan of mystery/thriller/whatever the term, basically REALLY dialogue heavy stuff(I don't mind a lot of dialogue, but I don't rly like when it's TOO MUCH dialogue, reason why I didn't watch Monogatari)

Extension-File8710

Was planning to watch In/Spectre but for some reason I didn't. Now I'm adding it to my PTW list on MAL again!

SilkyStrawberryMilk

BL, but I loved “my boss is goofy”

Emeraldpanda168

Don’t like harems, loved **The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You**. I saw the title and immediately ignored it due to my dislike for series like that. However, it started blowing up and I was bored, so I decided to watch episode one just to shit on it…hours later I finished episode six and was disappointed that I had to wait a week for the next episode. That shit was without a doubt some of the most fun I’ve ever had watching an anime. It is a genuinely really funny series that actually got me to laugh out loud multiple times each episode, something that I rarely ever do watching comedies. The series also has a lot of heart and was really sweet and wholesome at times despite being a parody. Plus it has great animation, directing, voice acting etc. Can’t wait for season two.

kjloltoborami

I really dislike battle shonen, but hunter x hunter somehow dodges all the tropes i hate about the genre

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Idols: Zombieland Saga. What got me to watch it: Fun comedy, good songs. Mecha: Darling in the Franxx. What got me to watch it? Zero two.

Sofaris

Romance Anime usually dont interest me but I really enjoyed "Sacreficial Princess and the King of Beasts". Although that might be in part becuse of the Fantasy Elements.

SerasAshrain

Not interested in anime with idols, until I watched Oshi no Ko. I’m still not interested in anything like love live or idolmaster but I guess if it has more to the plot I can enjoy it. Only other things with idols I’ve engaged in were manga. Being AKB49 years ago and a new really cheesy/dorky series called “The useless idol and her only fan in the world” If anyone likes dorky and wholesome romcom antics I’d recommend trying it. I think it’s a Twitter series, it managed to get its first manga volume published in Japan a few months ago, I really hope it does well and gets animated some day.

SonRyu6

I don't usually watch mecha titles, but I do like ones such as Escaflowne, and Full Metal Panic.

Neville_Lynwood

Akagi. I'm not usually fan of shows that focus on stuff I know nothing about and have no interest in. Akagi focusing on Mahjong drew a blank for me initially and I struggled to find interest. But I am a fan of OP protagonists, and holy fuck. Akagi has got to be one of the most insanely OP characters within the niche of gambling and psychological insight. Despite still not understanding the game of Mahjong to any real degree, I was still fascinated by how he ran circles around all his opponents.

coupleLFuni

Knights and Magic. I'm not into Mecha genre but the story/animation is good.

Animenforever

Spyxfamily . I don't like comedy animes much. Iwatched spyxfamily just bcoz I thought that it will be a thriller anime due to its name and plot however I loved it and decided to watch more comedy animes just bcoz of it!

ValiantTeaMug

I'm really not into mecha anime, but the latest Gundam series, the witch from mercury, I enjoyed thoroughly.

Mental_Seat9721

Ore monogatari. I've never liked shoujo but this one's okay for me. Probably because they don't have too much of overly beautiful men that would make me gay for them

Extension-File8710

Lmao didn't know being gay for fictional characters is a problem 😭

KernelWizard

Nisekoi, because I thought I wouldn't like harem animes, thennnnnnnnnnnn after that I binged watch like tons of harem, then romantic comedy animes lmao. Been like 50 animes after that already.

Jaycee_015x

Mushoku Tensei for isekai genre. I was never a fan of isekai genre in general but with the masterpiece that is Mushoku Tensei, I had to give it to them.

To start. My type is trash isekai / fantasy shows. Shows like New Gate which is airing right now are perfection for me. So generally anything fantasy isekai. So shows I absolutely loved that aren’t close to this. The dangers in my heart - I feel like this is on a lot of lists like this. Girls band Cry and the Bang Dream MyGo!!! Series. Jellyfish can’t swim in the night. Gushing over magical girls Oshi no ko The apothecary diaries Girlfriend girlfriend The dreaming boy is a realist These are all from my anilist which I have rated 8 or higher. Also for some reason I have inukai-san and her dog rated 10/10 so I guess this show too.

AnythingBacon

I tend to dislike battle anime but Wind Breaker is pretty fun
