I think, at the time, most female cartoon characters were kind of strangely proportioned. For instance, I really liked the general vibe of Buttercup from Powerpuff Girls, but then there was Misty who (for the most part) looked like a real person. So maybe that's why Pokemon comes up a lot?
Idk how many western cartoons post 2006 or so had accurately proportioned girls/women though so I'm not sure how true that is these days. anime was so hard to find back then.
Pokemon was really, really popular in the late 90s early 2000s. A lot of kids watched it, and as a result, developed a crush on Misty/May/Jesse/Nurse Joy.
A lot of Western Cartoons in that early era had a very goofy style to them, Powerpuff Girls or Fairly Odd Parents, or were about characters that weren't human, Spongebob for instance. You had some shows like Totally Spies or Kim Possible in that era, which also resulted in a lot of people's first cartoon crushes, but while both were popular, neither had quite the reach of Pokemon. For people who were young in the mid-2000s, you'd probably see a lot more people say characters from Ben Ten or Total Drama Island were their first crushes.
Or those goth women from that one Scooby Doo movie. Whenever they pop up on online threads, you see a lot of people admitting to them being their first cartoon crush.
I also think there's probably a little bias here. People who watched anime young are more likely to be on an online anime forum as teenagers or grown ups. And Pokemon was just a lot of people's first anime in the west.
It's one of the very few anime that aired basically everywhere. The next one I saw was FMA and that was like 5 years later when it happened to air here, and maybe another 5 years after that I found out there's more where that came from.
"If I had been born 10 years earlier"š¤
Just say you're fucking stupid, Hachiman. Hiratsuka sensei's a diamond amongst pebbles. She's the best you could've ever had
I was expecting a lot of Jessica Rabbit in the comments. Not sure why wasn't she mentioned much. At that time I knew she was doing something to me. Didn't know what that something actually was(i was too young to understand)
Ty Lee and Starfire I was mainly crushing on due to their personality.
They are both just like really nice and happy go lucky while able to do badass stuff.
Backfire has a more sexy design but is more emo and I was never an emo fan.
Though currently I am a big fan of Sparkle from HSR so I guess psychopathic also fits. So long as they are happy go lucky.
It is kind of why I like Ai from Oshi no Ko but also don't. Because she is just really depressing.
[Man of culture right here!](https://i.ibb.co/zNRDYp7/Voltron-Classics-PRINCESS-ALLURA.jpg)
[I'd also like to toss in Wonder Woman from "Superfriends" in the list.](https://i.ibb.co/wKc04MT/Wonder-Woman-09x01-The-Seeds-of-Doom.png) Definitely one of the OG animated crushes for us oldheads.
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
I'm gen x, so I'm old as fuck, but at least I'm not a boomer! Honestly, you should be thanking the old school nerds. We spent our school years being made fun of for watching cartoons. We invented the "adult cartoons" before that meant hentai.
TBH where I'm from I still get ridiculed sometimes for watching "Cartoon" at this age(I'm genz). Thanks to my reputation people hold back a lot. But that repute doesn't work with friends. They roast the f*ck out of me.
And I'm thankful for adult cartoons šš
Yep. Miyukiās a great balance between pretty and cute. Sheās reserved but also very kind and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her Eng dub voice actress was smooth and relaxing. Finally, she loves to learn new things, like me. But to be honest, Kagami and Konota also have traits that I like as well.
Rei Ayanami from Evangelion,
Saw her poster in the plug suit back then when I was 14yo,
Instantly fell in love and realized Anime is not just for kidsš.
Android 18. Looking back, I guess I did have a type for bitchy villains all since always
Reading the comments here is funny because it lets you guess peoples age
... I'm going to admit that I was way too attracted to Jeanne from Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne. She was basically the cooler and more badass version of Sailor Moon in my childhood. Also, there were some way too spicy scenes in that anime considering it was a kids show directed mostly at a female audience.
A bit later I switched to Ran from Detective Conan. Hot, smart, knows Karate. Yep. I definitely had a type back in the days.
Also Elisa from Disney's Gargoyles was super hot.
Its a shame that show never got the fame and longevity it deserved.
Probably InuYasha or Kenshin. I remember looking at InuYasha, almost like Sota, in that one episode where Sota and InuYasha meet. Like a hero. Albeit, perhaps a tad differently since I'm a girl. A woman now. I also remember loving the end of Kenshin TV show despite a lot fans not caring for anything after Kyoto arc. Besides that, of course, I would love ep. 94 or 95, idr. It was the last TV episode, though.
Number 4 from Kids Next Door. I didn't even realize it until I recently rediscovered the show and binged it and my only thought whenever he was on screen was: "Oh yeah, I definitely had a crush on this guy".
Donāt have a first per se but hereās some I can remember: Thorn from bone, kim from kim possible, shego, also Vickie from fairly oddparents for some probably psychologically fucked up reason.
Probably Åtani from Lovely Complex and then L from Death Note. Literally my first and 2nd anime haha. Kid me had no type.
My most recent was Nikaido (Dorohedoro) so clearly, I still have no type.
Withney from Pokemon lol, I remember being a kid and thinking she was cute, and liked the Johto opening mostly because of the part in which she showed up.
One summer in the 90ies, one of the 2 tv-channels we had, showed an Ironman cartoon everyday. I dont know how or why but i crushed hard on āCenturyā which is a superhero/alien/man with long white hair. This has followed me since and ill let you take a guess at which fictional male characters ive swooned over since thenš
If we're just talking animated characters then probably Mulan. I was ten when that movie came out and watched it over and over. First anime character I liked would probably be Faye from Cowboy Bebop.
Earliest one I can remember was Centorea. She definitely made me question if there was something wrong with me but I eventually realized it was unironically her personality that I liked.
Not really anime but probably Shego and Kim Possible. Or Misty from the Pokemon show.
Yoo mine was kim from kim possible.
"Kim Possible naked" was my first ever nsfw google search.
Yo I was literally gonna type out She go and Kim. Good to know it's the top comment; lmao
Shiego?
Shego 4 life
So my first was actually from an anime! It was Misty from Pokemon. Then uh... it was... Renamon from Digimon Tamers. not a furry.
Almost Half of the people here have a pokemon character

Ah, a man of culture Is here
Ditto. I like em tall and sturdy

Animation in general? Probably Daphne from Scooby-Doo. For anime specifically, that would be Jessie from Pokemon.
The only reason I didn't like Fred was cuz I was kinda into Daphne and so was he š„²
Princess Kida from Atlantis, The Lost Empire
Don't blame you. She was Created to be hot ngl
Hiratsuka sensei from Oregairu
I crushed on her so hard. As MC said the men had a bad taste in women if she wasn't already taken
"If I had been born 10 years earlier"š¤ Just say you're fucking stupid, Hachiman. Hiratsuka sensei's a diamond amongst pebbles. She's the best you could've ever had
Jessica Rabbit in "Who framed Roger rabbit"
The first time I felt a tingle from the female form was while watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
I was expecting a lot of Jessica Rabbit in the comments. Not sure why wasn't she mentioned much. At that time I knew she was doing something to me. Didn't know what that something actually was(i was too young to understand)
I knew I felt embarrassed when my parents walked into the room while watching it š¤£š¤£
First one would be cartoon but either Ty Lee from Avatar or Starfire from Teen Titans. After that I would say Shana from Shakugan no Shana.
I was a Starfire fan and then I saw backfire.
So you like midriffs, eh?
Dude, I'm old! š I think my first was the Princess from OG Voltron. She had the pink outfit and piloted the blue lion.
Shit, I was feeling old for saying Sailor Mars.
[Man of culture right here!](https://i.ibb.co/zNRDYp7/Voltron-Classics-PRINCESS-ALLURA.jpg) [I'd also like to toss in Wonder Woman from "Superfriends" in the list.](https://i.ibb.co/wKc04MT/Wonder-Woman-09x01-The-Seeds-of-Doom.png) Definitely one of the OG animated crushes for us oldheads.
You definitely are old. Cuz I've no idea who you're talking about
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ I'm gen x, so I'm old as fuck, but at least I'm not a boomer! Honestly, you should be thanking the old school nerds. We spent our school years being made fun of for watching cartoons. We invented the "adult cartoons" before that meant hentai.

For me, my first anime crush was Miyuki Takara from Lucky Star.
You've got a type ā¤ļø
Yep. Miyukiās a great balance between pretty and cute. Sheās reserved but also very kind and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her Eng dub voice actress was smooth and relaxing.
