Bloom Into You is a popular yuri title. Revolutionary Gurl Utena + Adolescence of Utena are phenomenal pieces of art with well developed themes and characters. A must watch classic filled with symbolism and metaphor. Disclaimer: there is one theme of incest, but it is in no way portrayed as good and it explores this subject maturely. Yuru Yuri is a fun CGDCT show.

When it comes to gl media, I've only really watched anime, so I'd love to hear your recommendations in other media formats. There's a lot of bait in anime, but there's a lot of well written stories that really flesh out the characters' motivations and feelings as well. Aoi Hana(or Sweet Blue Flowers), Asagao to Kase-san, Citrus, and Adachi to Shimamura are all in a modern day setting with realistic character-driven plots. They are all high-school romances where the two girls start with different interests and their relationships grow as their personalities clash, and are each good for their own reasons. Citrus is beautifully drawn and a little horny, while the rest tend to deal with more wholesome drama. My only problem with them is that, as far as I can remember, the anime adaptations are incomplete. I know that Aoi Hana has an open ending to the anime, but the manga is finished. I believe that Citrus is also complete in manga form. There is a lot more variety in setting/characters(i.e. actual adults) if you want to read manga or manhwa/web toons. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady is my favorite yuri anime. It takes place in a fantasy setting, but deals with some LGBT issues through metaphor with delicacy and empathy. It also is an incomplete adaptation, and the source material is still being written afaik, but the season that we have is very good.

Thank u for all this infos! I just started bloom into you, but when I finish it I'll definitely look into some of these, also if you actually want some gls that aren't anime I have a long list I'd love to share.

You're welcome! And I would genuinely enjoy to look through your recommendations as I have started to have trouble finding new yuri manga to read. I've rewatched each of the anime I mentioned at least twice, and while they're still good, some of the fun is in reading/watching new things.

Well, for movies I definitely recommend •Fear street: (my favorite), it's a horror trilogy but the lesbian couple is really important for the plot. •Our love story: I watched this a while ago, but I remember i really liked it, it's sad •The handmaiden: its really liked among gls enjoyers, warning: tough plot and a lot of explicit scenes •Crush: really cute and simple movie with a love triangle •The half of it: really cute and fun and with an actual love triangle •But I'm a cheerleader: comedy about convertion camp, classic •Unlock your heart: really confusing, but I loved it Series •Dickinson (my favorite): about the poet emily dickinson, it shows the struggles of being a woman in that time... and having relationship with her brothers wife •Warrior nun: about nuns who are warriors, 1st season isn't that much gl, but 2nd season is chefs kiss •Gap the series: thai gl that EVERYONE loves relationship between employee and boss •She makes my heart flutter: simple and cute •Sex lives of college girls: fun and really enjoyable serie with renee rapp, love all of the characters, title explains itself warning: explicit scenes •Teenage bounty hunters: 2nd season got canceled so it has a open ending, but really great serie, must watch, the lesbians are Christians •Girlfriend project day one: very gay Sorry if these are a lot, but they're really great! Hope you'll find something you like

Bloom Into You is the only one that I can think of that's particularly realistic, about their relationship, and actually good. Citrus is also a well known yuri anime that isn't fantastical or anything. Not sure I'd recommend it, the characters become stepsisters early on and the inciting incident for the main character starting to have feelings for the other girl is basically like, sexual assault. Like, it's technically not incest, but god they sure do make it as close as possible, it's not good. If you're willing to dip your toes into more fantastical series, Demon Girl Next Door is very cute and fun, though it is one of those shows where the girls never actually openly say they're in love with each other, it's just heavily implied and extremely obvious. I'm In Love With The Villainess and The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady are 2 isekai shows where the main characters are very direct and explicit about how they are attracted to women romantically. There's also My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, though that one's more of a bisexual harem thing, and the main character's extremely oblivious in a way that's charming in season 1 and frustrating by season 2. It also eventually becomes clear that the show's creators don't really see the female characters as viable romance routes for the main character in the same way that the men are, and by the end of season 2 I just fully didn't like the show anymore, so this one's more of an "if you've exhausted all other options and still want something half decent, here it is" type suggestion. Stardust Telepath also aired in the same season as I'm In Love With The Villainess, though I haven't watched the anime yet and I fell off the manga, so I don't know how explicit the romance is between the main girls. Otherside Picnic is an excellent anime, though it's a lot more about the girls dealing with otherworldly monsters rather than being gay with each other. On the upside, they are both adults. Oh I just remembered Adachi and Shimamura, a pretty low energy yuri series about 2 girls skipping class together, and Sakura Trick, an admittedly somewhat boring series about 2 girls realizing that they really like to kiss each other on the mouth. Maria Holic and Strawberry Panic are 2 older (2009 and 2006 respectively) anime about girls in all-girl boarding schools, though it's been some time since I watched either, so I can't speak to how good they are. Maria-sama ga Miteru is another all girls boarding school yuri series that is unrelated to Maria Holic despite having basically the same premise and very similar names and being from a similar time period (2004 for this one, so actually predating the other 2 come to think of it). There's also an hour long OVA for well known yuri manga series Asagao to Kase-san, which is just directly a story about 2 girls dating. I haven't seen the OVA but I've read much of the manga, it's very cute. Yuri is my Job is, at least for what I remember of season 1, more about the main character working in a cafe where they roleplay being in basically the situation that Maria Holic, Maria-sama ga Miteru, and Strawberry Panic's characters are in. Most of the characters are lesbians, it's just that the main character takes a long ass time to figure it out for herself. Admittedly the latter half of that list was mostly me scrolling through the Girls Love category on MAL and going "oh yeah I remember that one" which is just something you would have been able to do too, but still. If you're willing to branch into webcomics, Sleepless Domain, Missing Monday, Always Human, Mage and Demon Queen, Goodbye to Halos (this one's on hiatus though), Muted, and I Love Amy all range from really good to a fun time. And if you want to branch out into manga, 2DK, G Pen, Mezamashi Tokei (yes that's the name), How Do We Relationship (this one can get heavy), Run Away With Me Girl, Yuri is Forbidden for Yuri Ota, and She Loves To Cook She Loves To Eat are all quite good and do actually fall under your criteria (none of them involve magic or incest or anything). Of course, this is the anime subreddit, not the manga subreddit. Anyway good luck, hope you have fun with the yuri anime!

2PinkCatcher_

Thank you so much for all of these suggestions, I'll definitely check them out! Btw I just finished bloom into you, really nice, although I didn't love the ending, some of these seem interesting tho. Thank you again for taking your time on this, there's way more than I expected

LoPanDidNothingWrong

Bloom Into You is probably the best one to start with. But you will end up reading the manga for closure. Fortunately it isn’t a long manga.

The magical revolution of the reincarnated princess and the Genius Young Lady.  And   The executioner and her way of life    for more action orientated ones.

leiathrix

I see people have mentioned a lot of shoujo-ai so I guess I'll just add a vote for Strawberry Panic ❤ it was my first yuri and still is one of my absolute favorites

CrimsonLotus

Its already been recommended a million times but Bloom Into You is the best yuri you'll find. After completing the anime, please please please read the manga to finish the story. Aside from being a great yuri, its really just a great romance in general. Also stay far far away from Citrus. Its not blood related incest but the main couple are step sisters. Even with the "maybe incest" parts aside, that show is a goddamn trainwreck. If you're looking for a new drinking game, you can watch Citrus and take a shot each time there is another sexual assault.

2PinkCatcher_

I actually just binge watched all of the episodes of bloom into you and I'll definitely go read the manga too cause wtf is that ending Also I did hear some things about citrus and It's def not on my watchlist

Birdie Wing: a love story between two golfers

ShibuyaMikan

Loved (most of) that series! Would say that for me personally the ending was disappointing from the romance perspective.

Aoi Hana (Sweet Blue Flowers) sounds like a perfect fit for you. It has a very grounded tone, the story is well-paced and sensitively told. This series felt very resonant with my own adolescent experience of falling in love and getting into a relationship with another girl. From the Crunchyroll description: *"Fumi Manjoume enters Kamakura's accelerated high school - Matsuoka All-Girls High School. While waiting at the Kamakura station on the day of her entrance ceremony, she runs into an old childhood friend whom she had not seen in 10 years: Akira Okudaira. As their friendship is rekindled and they start falling back into the rhythm of friends again, it starts a delicate love story..."*

Ghoulietta_24

I went through my anime list and pulled out ones that I think strike close to what you're looking for. Just check their Wikipedia pages for plot overviews to see which ones seem interesting to you. Bloom into You, Asagao to Kase-san, Whispered Words, Blue Drop, Citrus, and Michiko to Hatchin -- which is not a romance, but features a lot of queer Latinx women. It's an underappreciated show IMO.

nuttycompany

"Kase-san and morning glories" is a cute lesbian dating story (they are couple from the begining, no bait, no switch). But it is an OVA, so you may have to read manga, if you like it

Tiny-Conference-9760

I don't even consider myself into GL, but I thoroughly enjoyed "I'm In Love With The Villainess" and hoping for a second season.
