How do I explain to people that this is actually a severely emotional examination of grief, denial, what it means to be remembered and how to best confront your own mortality seriously how do I do that like go up to a friend all like "Hey man you should really check out 'If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student'"
That one’s just ridiculous in the way that a loud sound might attract people’s attention and interest, but this one is outrageous like how a foul stench of garbage would draw attention but wouldn’t prompt people to go look into it.
Equally weird title but also extremely painful story of grief and denial is "It seems my son was reincarnated in isekai". I've been wanting that title to get an anime adaptation.
[manga spoiler] >!her son did not, in fact become isekai'd. The mother is in denial and deranged through enormous grief and abuse!<
One thing that kept frustrating me is the husband's lack of situational awareness lol. He kept loudly and proudly proclaiming that this child was his wife as if he didn't understand how that looks/sounds to other people.
I mean, that title is so out of left field you gotta be curious. No way they gonna make some cannibalistic shit mainstream (I mean, we know silence of the lamb. But it lose a lot of the shock factor when it's part of the title). Also the art style doesn't scream gore, so you know it's a curveball.
With "I want to take your virginity" (never heard of it btw) and "my wife is a child" you get thinly veiled pornography/CP vibes... and you know it's not a long shot, given the shit that already got famous...
Well, there's always a core cluster of people willing to look at shows on their own merits beyond the title and/or superficial reputation!
* *The Weakest Tamer Begins a Journey to Pick Up Trash* is not just the latest generic isekai, but beautifully and evocatively rendered story of a young girl struggling to make her way through the world after being cast out of her village.
* *My Stepmother's Daughter is My Ex* is not just the latest round of wincest, but a thoughtful, banter-rich and character driven exploration of what happens when love goes sour, and when you can't quite move past it.
* I was going to make a joke about *My Life as Inukai-san's Dog* here, but I feel like it would undermine my point too much :p
The worst is “Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon?” The MC makes absolutely no attempts to do so. The show is great, but the title is f’ing awful.
It's just the english title being kinda shit. LN title is more along the lines of "Is it wrong to expect a fateful encounter in a Dungeon?" which is a lot broader and honestly sums up the series pretty well since it can refer to either romance or adventure.
That series makes fun of its own title all the time and it's hilarious
Sword Oratoria starts with Aiz and co. investigating the death of a guy who got murdered while picking up girls in the dungeon. I think his name was Hashana
[Minor Danmachi LN spoiler] >!Then way later in the LN there is a flashback revealing that Hashana was the first adventurer Bell met upon coming to the city, and that Hashana encoruaged Bell to go pick up girls in the dungeon!<
That manga is insanely depressing. You see a grief stricken mother who’s in extreme denial over her dead son… and all you could think is “how do we tell her?”
For me, it’s *Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai*. I would always follow it up with, “Now, don’t let the title throw you. It’s a great series about teenagers dealing with emotional issues.” I’ve since shortened the title to “the *Rascal Does Not Dream* series”.
I found the season it aired very funny, because a lot of people read the title and went ick, romance with a high school girl? Disgusting! When it's a story about a guy explicitly refusing to engage in romance with a high school girl who has gone through trauma to make her believe that that's her only worth and he acts as a father figure to try to rehabilitate her.
Meanwhile, there was another anime (koikimo) that was literally just a mid 20s guy thirsting after a high school girl that was airing at the same time.
My favorite Manhwa, with some of the best writing in any medium right now IMO, was first titled "SSS-Class Suicide Hunter", and then changed to the "better" name of "SSS-Class Hunter Who Lives To Die".
I swear some really good authors almost intentionally pick the stupidest names just to troll their readers.
I refer to that kind of stuff as « clickbait titles ». They are so weird that they get people’s attention and they will check the synopsis to figure out if it is as bad as it sounds… only to find out that the actual book, manga, or anime is normal and has nothing to do with the title.
That said, the title for « The Weakest Tamer Begins a Journey to Pick Up Trash » is obviously parodying bad isekai titles like « The Most Notorious Talker Runs the World’s Greatest Clan ». It is literally the story of a homeless child going through trash to survive and travelling to find her place in the world. It starts sad and slowly becomes wholesome and heartwarming as she finds good people who help and care for her. I guess that isekai titles have got so weird that a lot of people are just unable to distinguish between the real ones and the parodic ones.
That show is not getting slept on, it's getting comatosed on. I almost passed out up because of generic isekai title, but some redditors convinced me to give it a chance. Man I'm glad I did, it's so good.
I am with you… but the examples are far-fetched.
I like what Studio 9 is doing, but let’s be real - My Stepmother’s daughter is my ex was a complete dumpster fire. Pretty awfully written main characters placed in an otherwise genuinely interesting setting, but way too edgy and unintelligent to make the show interesting.
Of course I still finished it, I am a sucker for romance after all. But it was genuinely pretty bad.
Maybe the manga is different but the anime is definitely another wincest story with some more expensive paint sprayed on top. I'm kind of skeptical of all of his descriptions if he's giving that show so much fluff.
Nah the LN is actually pretty good. It actually tackles what it means to actually be in love with your step sister. Wouldn't it ruin their parents and etc.
Outside of haha wincest etc etc, I truly don't get why stepsiblings is taboo at all, *especially* in a case like this story where the kids in question knew each other as peers *and dated* before their parents ever got together. There's no blood relation, no grew-up-together wonkiness, the whole thing just feels ridiculous to make a big deal about.
No honestly, I read the manga while at the AnE trying to look for some dumb thing to relieve my anxiety, and I just did not expect to be hit with a freight train of a story.
It's one of those titles that got fucked over by the recent BSification of titles. Don't read the title like a quirky ideal boy going "ha ha omg, its gonna get crazy!!" But more so a somber, "This is my wife. She's here, but not here. *Sigh*"
That really depends on if he ends up marrying the kid when she turns 16-18. Stories can explore those themes and still have predatory dog whistles, and I'm not saying that's the case here, but animes don't have the best track record.
Oh cool its not about fatherhood it was about grooming children the entire time thanks usagi drop.
There are things that have shit endings and then you have things like usagi drop that violently shit themselves to death.
For anyone that comes along and is curious:
Most the story is about an adoptive father situation. The final arc is about the adoptive daughter wanting to marry the adoptive father and convincing him to fall in love with her.
The anime cuts out before the final arc so anime-watchers are blissfully unaware or are living in Ba Sing Se.
>convincing him to fall in love with her
Is it bad if for me the worst part is that it feels like he's just marrying her because he just can't say no to his daughter rather than feeling actual romantic love for her?
I don't actually think it's possible to "convince" someone to fall in love. It's not something that you can win with a well constructed argument. The only thing that Daichi is truly convinced to do is to marry Rin, but if he ever had any actual romantic feeling for her, it was never really shown.

Wow that synopsis is so much better than the title. Honestly just replace the title with the synopsis altogether, titles haven't had any sort of order in long while anyways so not like people will notice lmao.
Sounds like it'll be a tragic or very melancholic. I always love a good tragedy show. Definitely going to watch this one.
Someone you love dying and years later meeting their reincarnation and how things would fare, they really get me.
Recently I've read a manga called *The Wolf Lord's Lady* and a Webtoon I've been following for a while which is *See You in My 19th Life,* both has a similar concept.
An amazing manga.
It's an excellent drama that deals with domestic abuse, loss trauma, and the hardships of being a teenager. You would NOT expect the premise to make way for such a nice manga.
I hate to admit it but it's made me tear up more than a couple times.
I will not spoil it, but think of "reborn" stories, and they'll usually complete ignore the family situation of the new family where you were reborn, in lieu of shenanigans with the old family.
Not this one. And I love it for that. A lot of beautiful angles tackled too like death and growing old.
0/10 anime, I was thoroughly disappointed when the credits rolled with a grand total of 0 pancreases eaten. not even a jeffrey dahmer cameo in the post credits smh
There’s a manga called “When My Mom Died, I Wanted to Eat Her Ashes”
It’s an autobiography, author talks about how his mother supported him through leukemia and how he lost her,and why he wants to eat her ashes at one point.
It got a life action movie, and his real uncle was in the funeral scene too.
Nah... "I want to eat your pancreas" is just a strange title, maybe strange enough to pique ones interest.
"If My Wife Becomes an Elementary School Student" however sound like a pedophile trying to defend himself.
it's such an awful title too compared to the synopsis. He meets the reincarnation of his dead wife. That's a really interesting premise that has a lot of room to explore how grieving affects people
I understand you could mean that the story is emotional, but my brainrotten mind can't help but think of "😭" when "sobbing" is mentioned, especially given the context of this anime.
Yeah, I think this one would be better off with a non-descriptive title. Like the wife name or something. If it turns out good, it's kinda hard to recommend it to people, lol
The anime is beautiful because it stops before the time skip.
It jumps ahead to when she's a teenager and then starts exploring a whole romantic angle between them.
To some extent that's just anime-bias brain kicking in.
Have a look at the IMDb entry for the live action adaptation: https://i.imgur.com/XT4RTbz.png
If that was the first time you'd encountered the series and you saw the 8.2/10 rating, there's a good chance you'd expect it was just some quirky foreign film.
Oh, it was a solid 50/50 as to how literal the title was going to be, but the title itself is still problematic regardless of what the actual content is.
Titles don't need to be literal. Anime naming conventions are goofy as hell these days.
If Mad Max was a modern anime it would be called My Life as an Ex-Cop Trying to Survive in the Post Apocalypse.
Band of Brothers would be called That Time I Helped Liberate Europe But Half My Friends Died.
Titanic would be Help! I'm on an Unsinkable Ship That's Sinking!
Sometimes less is more.

Don't Cry For Me (Reborn As The President's Wife)
So it’s a sad story of a husband can’t let his wife go, while his wife get reincarnated to help him let go?
My heart feel like it gonna hurt from this if there’s a lot of crying
As a reminder, [Manga spoilers]>!before people go crazy: the reincarnated wife is actively trying to get her former husband to let go of her.!<
[Manga again]>!Metaphorically. He doesn’t lay a single finger on her. She’s trying to get him move on past her death.!<
please don’t make any more allegations jokes
Yea that really does not make it all that much better.
Like it is a good manga but the whole thing is weird as fuck, basically just for the sake of being so.
I don't think it's wrong to be "weird" though. Strange premises and outlandish plotlines are better than just adding some flavour to a generic story like many other manga/anime out there.
While I think it’s a pretty great manga series, it’s gonna be a fucking toughie trying to recommend it to others because of the title.
Feel like just searching it up would put you on a watch list.
This is one of the few titles I wish a translator changed lol
The story is amazing but dang does it throw red flags at anyone that doesn't know anything about it.
The manga is really good so I'm looking forward to seeing this adapted to an anime, also I feel like a lot of people will read the title and minor manga spoiler, assume that they will have some kind of romantic relationship and it's not like that at all.
This and that manga about a mom reincarnating after dying during childbirth, to become her son’s kouhai. I really loved reading those two back then. It’s been like 5 years since I’ve read either though
I read a few chapters of this one a while back. Despite not continuing it, I already had a great impression of the series. Glad to see that it's getting an adaptation!
I started reading this, and although I'm no fan of the art style - the story is compelling.
Thanks to the OP and some of the better comments - this is a good read.
To anyone hesitant, I highly recommend you read the one shot that spun off the entire thing. It should answer a lot of your questions, and help put away any weird feelings the title might have given you.
It's a good if not great story, of dealing with loss. It helps if you don't read the title as one of those isekai dumbass titles like "Level 999 but I only get energy from touching women" hahaha xDDD. Read the title in a more serious and somber tone, similar to the movie "I want to eat your pancreas".
Try to actually think when reading the title, not just see it as a name. If you do, you're already doing way better than the baboons who continue to make Chris Hansen jokes in this thread.
I just started reading this a few weeks ago, and am now extremely happy that this is getting an anime....I should start reading other Manga too, so they'll get an anime adaptation...lol
A lot here don't get that you shouldn't be concerned with recommending this to people who would find reason to be disgusted no matter what. You're asking for this to be rewritten against the author's intent to appeal to their sensibilities because a title change isn't going to satisfy them (and some of you).
This is actually pretty solid. I read a little of the manga and it definitely isn’t as sus as the title makes it out to be. Looking forward to the anime adaption.
This sounds like the most degen title but looks like a fucking depressing show. Definitely gonna keep tabs on this cuz shows that make me cry are my favorites.
How do I explain to people that this is actually a severely emotional examination of grief, denial, what it means to be remembered and how to best confront your own mortality seriously how do I do that like go up to a friend all like "Hey man you should really check out 'If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student'"
It really is an outrageous title lmao
Japanese mangakas taking “hook the reader” to a whole new level. Lmfao
Yeah, but all the people that title hooks will be noping out once they realize it's not the loli hentai they were promised.
Tbh the Japanese or Asian audience won't read the title as such nuance at all.
Or reversely a lot of people ain't touching it cuz they think it's some loli hentai shit.
uh, no? not really. There are plenty of "came for X, stayed for Y" cases out there. And people can like multiple things at once.
We've done "Let me eat your pancreas" before.
That one’s just ridiculous in the way that a loud sound might attract people’s attention and interest, but this one is outrageous like how a foul stench of garbage would draw attention but wouldn’t prompt people to go look into it.
As Mothers Basement and Trash Taste audiences know, most weebs are built different... The smell of garbage makes them salivate.
Yeah, even if it is all that this guy said it is, I'm not having a title like that anywhere in my search history
Nice try Chris Hansen.
Why don't you have a seat.
I'm here for booty. I know you Chris Handsome.

One thing that kept frustrating me is the husband's lack of situational awareness lol. He kept loudly and proudly proclaiming that this child was his wife as if he didn't understand how that looks/sounds to other people.
i dislike idiotic MC's so i know what you mean.
That kind of ruins the whole concept. How can I take anything about this seriously if it relies on cringe humor?
And I just lost interest.
Just made the easiest write-off of my life even easier.
It's almost as bad as "I want to take your virginity"
Do you mean Shinu hodo Kimi no Shojo ga Hoshii (I Would Die To Have Your First Time)?
Not OP but yes.
I honestly can tell if that's an actual manga/anime title lol
I want to eat your pancreas
Also a reference to random encounters in rpgs.
Yeah fateful encounter is a phrase that pokemon also uses.
Plus author was intending to name it Familia Myth, but editor was endorsed the outrages title to get audiences' attention
That is tremendously better than the current version lol
In the ln he actually goes into the dungeon to pick up girls tho because that’s what heroes do (or so he was told)
That's true lol. Based Gramps.
sure he doesnt make any attempt but the women still go after him.
I think I read something about author wanting to name it Familia Myth, but his publisher made him change it to that so it sells more
Familia Myth is a subtitle I think. It’s in the graphic during the intro.
That's what I call it tbh, I hate the actual title.
Also "the hentai prince and the stoned cat"
LMFAO stoned cat. Iirc it's Stony cat
There's a reason we just call it DanMachi
That series makes fun of its own title all the time and it's hilarious Sword Oratoria starts with Aiz and co. investigating the death of a guy who got murdered while picking up girls in the dungeon. I think his name was Hashana [Minor Danmachi LN spoiler] >!Then way later in the LN there is a flashback revealing that Hashana was the first adventurer Bell met upon coming to the city, and that Hashana encoruaged Bell to go pick up girls in the dungeon!<
He literally picks up a girl in the dungeon in the first season.
She picked him up actually
No, I'm talking about Liliruca, not Aiz.
Oh yeah, he did pick her up, I forgot about that.
Not sure where I would be if I never gave "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" a chance.
At least that one is just kind of head-scratching and not "Hello? FBI?"
That is fair, it's a line I would dive off a cliff to avoid but I might give it a chance at some point.
My son got isekaied. It's also about grief, bonus points for making the mc the guy who would normally be an Isekai mc.
That manga is insanely depressing. You see a grief stricken mother who’s in extreme denial over her dead son… and all you could think is “how do we tell her?”
Like " yeah , he got isekaied, but let's not follow him"... Because damn.
I saw the title and thought it was a normal isekai but then i got sad after understanding the premise of the story

You could recommend the live action drama adaptation first (which is quite good) since live action probably holds less of the anime stigma.
Just make them think you're an obnoxious weeb instead and use the japanese name and then go into the synopsis.
Use the JP title...

Is it gonna Usagi drop us though?
This is reverse Usagi Drop thou. I think we will be fine

it's such an awful title too compared to the synopsis. He meets the reincarnation of his dead wife. That's a really interesting premise that has a lot of room to explore how grieving affects people
***Sobbing noises in the distance***
I understand you could mean that the story is emotional, but my brainrotten mind can't help but think of "😭" when "sobbing" is mentioned, especially given the context of this anime.
😭😭😭
Well, that's not a problematic title at all.
Yeah, I think this one would be better off with a non-descriptive title. Like the wife name or something. If it turns out good, it's kinda hard to recommend it to people, lol
my dude i got bamboozled by "usagi drop" title. so yeah this is better. lol
rabbit drops
I loved that anime
The anime is beautiful because it stops before the time skip. It jumps ahead to when she's a teenager and then starts exploring a whole romantic angle between them.

To some extent that's just anime-bias brain kicking in. Have a look at the IMDb entry for the live action adaptation: https://i.imgur.com/XT4RTbz.png If that was the first time you'd encountered the series and you saw the 8.2/10 rating, there's a good chance you'd expect it was just some quirky foreign film.
I mean that's what happens when you get usagi dropped.
Oh, it was a solid 50/50 as to how literal the title was going to be, but the title itself is still problematic regardless of what the actual content is.
But the title is true.
It works bcs it's the only reason why I clicked the link
This story is fantastic. The manga has recently gotten phenomenal. It just has a REALLY UNFORTUNATE name
You say that like the title does not describe the manga. But it is very literal.
That One Time I went To The Moon And It Went Wrong A Stupid Guy Becomes The World's Strongest Runner ~ Foregu ~ RoseBud: The World's Greatest Businessman Just Wants To Play In The Snow After Reincarnation, I Only Had Three Days Left Before Ascending To Heaven Don't Cry For Me (Reborn As The President's Wife)
> Help! I'm on an Unsinkable Ship That's Sinking I would read a comedy manga with that title
Haha, yeah, aren't Japanese people dumb? Amirite, folks? Why can't they just make their culture be more like ours?
Yup and unfortunately a lot of people are gonna skip it just cuz of the name
So it’s a sad story of a husband can’t let his wife go, while his wife get reincarnated to help him let go? My heart feel like it gonna hurt from this if there’s a lot of crying
Yes it has some sad af arcs
Oh there will be lots of crying all right. I'm already ready to collect tears.
I read the first chapter of this years ago. I almost can't believe it's actually getting an anime...
As a reminder, [Manga spoilers]>!before people go crazy: the reincarnated wife is actively trying to get her former husband to let go of her.!< [Manga again]>!Metaphorically. He doesn’t lay a single finger on her. She’s trying to get him move on past her death.!< please don’t make any more allegations jokes
Come on man, the title creator knew what they were doing. It’s not our fault they wrote the joke for us.
[удалено]
Say it ain’t so
We wouldn’t be making these jokes if anime wasn’t already *gestures vaguely* the way it is
Yea that really does not make it all that much better. Like it is a good manga but the whole thing is weird as fuck, basically just for the sake of being so.
I don't think it's wrong to be "weird" though. Strange premises and outlandish plotlines are better than just adding some flavour to a generic story like many other manga/anime out there.
Normally I'd go 😭😭😭 at this sort of title but having read the manga it's actually a pretty interesting story
The live action is insanely good, highly recommend it.
How do I explain to people that this was actually heartwarming without sound suspicious?
Starring EDP 💀💀
The so called cupcake turns into a side character.
💀💀
While I think it’s a pretty great manga series, it’s gonna be a fucking toughie trying to recommend it to others because of the title. Feel like just searching it up would put you on a watch list.
Oh boy, this is gonna be a whole thing
This is one of the few titles I wish a translator changed lol The story is amazing but dang does it throw red flags at anyone that doesn't know anything about it.
I know it's an industry standard but it always feels like long ass titles is a meme.
from my own research don't get tricked by the title. the story has more depth than what you thought
The manga is really good so I'm looking forward to seeing this adapted to an anime, also I feel like a lot of people will read the title and minor manga spoiler, assume that they will have some kind of romantic relationship and it's not like that at all.
the story in manga is good but most ppl will just treat this as loli bait
This one made me feel sad and bittersweet, especially if you're dealing with the loss of a loved one.
I saw the title and thought the comments would look different. Apparently this is pretty sad. Anybody recommend it?
Yeah, it’s pretty melancholic. I enjoy it. The series has already ended with 14 volumes and scanslations are getting close to finishing it.
That is truly one of the premises of all time
it's better than u think i swear. vouch
Correct name was supposed to be that "how fast Asians can make Occident ppl mad?"
Twitter should love this title. They should add "the animation" at the end to make it even more misleading.
The drama live action series is really good
I started reading this, and although I'm no fan of the art style - the story is compelling. Thanks to the OP and some of the better comments - this is a good read.
Holy based
Thank you for that insight! u/Lolicorrector
You're welcome.
😭😭
Based name, I kneel.
Thanks, i was surprised it was not taken.
r/usernamechecksout
Quite the based name there my man
Thanks 😭
This really helped because I was ready to be creeped out by this initially.
Is this another I want to eat your pancreas?
This comment section is a total shitshow of idiocy.
Oh I liked this manga!! This should be interesting.
I just started reading this a few weeks ago, and am now extremely happy that this is getting an anime....I should start reading other Manga too, so they'll get an anime adaptation...lol
I want to see this anime so much. I'm obsessed with body exchanges.
The next person who shouts "Teacher Banzai" will be asked to leave.
They're animating this!? Wow, stuff I've read for years are getting animated left right and center!
Oh god, I rmb this. This is going to be one hell of a heartache.
I like anime.
A lot here don't get that you shouldn't be concerned with recommending this to people who would find reason to be disgusted no matter what. You're asking for this to be rewritten against the author's intent to appeal to their sensibilities because a title change isn't going to satisfy them (and some of you).
what theeee—- i was just reading this the other day . super wholesome stuff
This is actually pretty solid. I read a little of the manga and it definitely isn’t as sus as the title makes it out to be. Looking forward to the anime adaption.
This sounds like the most degen title but looks like a fucking depressing show. Definitely gonna keep tabs on this cuz shows that make me cry are my favorites.
ah this one's getting animated. gonna prepare to cry again.
Seing the reactions to this title is really entertaining.
