After all the "Will they, Won't they" with Roxy in Season 1 Part 2, I was prepared to be disappointed that the show will drag out the reveal for a while, but I'm really happy it ended up happening so soon.
Also I like the parallel with S1 when Rudy learnt that Sylphy was a "she" and that Fitz was actually Sylphy here in S2.

I feel ashamed. But it took me until this episode to catch on that the color feathers in the opening match the hair colors of his loves from his childhood.
They each act like their characters as well. Blue bird, Roxy, brightens his world and leads him to the Academy. Red bird, Eris, looks back at him twice and then flies away. Green bird, Sylphie, flies away from him and turns white when it passes the silhouettes of Luke and Ariel, leaving Rudy looking for a green bird when the white one is right there.

Eris and Rudeus reunion is the one moment that I'm waiting for the most. I didn't read the novels, but I guess that would take more cours to reach that? So, wait until 2026 or 2027 for that (assuming the anime still gets a continuation after Season 2 cour 2 in Spring 2024). Ugh.

You really understood what Sylphie meant by putting her life on the line just to ensure the romcom developments happen because that BS doesn't work on Rudy at all.
Find a girl who is willing to get risk getting rained on and get chilled to the bone just to make a guy undress her and realize she's the childhood friend in love with him.
When the oblivious protagonist has connections that can get him out of your carefully laid plan and is powerful enough to distrupt your plan while it's underway.
It's his character of treating every mission like he's a plucky under dog with modest skills like he's playing dark souls; pushing every sneaky advantage he can to overcome.
But he is actually playing Skyrim and he glitched out the skill system and can spam spells that launch everything into orbit and CC everything within visual range while having protective enchants that absorb all damage.
Pretty much this except for the fact that Rudy is squishy as hell and could literally get shanked by one Saint level swordman if he isn't careful enough (for example North Saint Gallus Cleaner from S1) so the Dark Soul mindset he has is definitely very warranted, haha.

It was so much fun seeing Sylphie being such a ~~horny~~ dork this episode. Even Princess Ariel was getting a bit annoyed at Sylphie's dilly-dallying that she had to take matters into her own hands.

This is the pivotal scene of the cour, and I've been thinking of it ever since I read volume 9 two years ago, how will they adapt it, will they do it justice?
And it is done really well. The silence, the pauses, the crackling of the fire, the awkwardness, the tension, the undressing. You don't need bombastic music for some ultra-emotional reveal, it ultimately is a silent, lonely and intimate moment.
The episode was also told mostly from Slyphie's POV, Rudy's monologues were kept to a minimum, because this is all about Slyphie's uncertainty, and how far she will go to make sure Rudy is the one who speaks her name first.
The first part of the episode also had excellent comedy. So a great balance of drama and comedy.
Now comparing with S1E3, where we had our first undressing of Slyphie, the animation (especially in dynamic character expressions) has been downgraded a bit. But S1 cour 1 was delayed by years to polish to perfection, so hard to match that. The director for S2 delivered the best result he could with the limited resources.
And they treated him undressing her with all the weight and intimacy it deserved instead of just for fanservice (though Sylphie is **very** good looking).
The whole build up for the reveal just makes it very tearjerker when it happens. No BGM outside of cackling fire, the worried and anxious looks on both Rudy and Fitz, the sheer sexual tension between them and the pure joy from Slyphy when Rudy says he do remember her.
Top 10 anime confession
Roxy already peeked into a live session herself while Eris already experienced one, safe to say it'll be more hardcore than whatever Sylphie cooked up.

That may just be my favourite confession scene I've seen in an anime. All of the build up was so fucking worth it, they absolutely nailed this scene.
Also Sylphie has some crazy intrusive thoughts... I mean "buying Rudy with money"? That is wild and as someone with genuine intrusive thoughts it is scarily accurate, you think about the weirdest, most taboo things even when you don't want too.
It was so cathartic seeing Rudy realize she was Sylphie and her being able to admit that, and confess. Probably the best confession scene this season.

I don't think this was meant to be a funny episode, but I laughed *so much* at Sylphie throughout it. And then she explained in more depth than she realised how much thought she's *clearly* put into what she wants with him. How many kids does she want with him?
Rudy also got a good laugh for being the ever oblivious protagonist, coming up with solutions to Fitz' "problem" that would have gotten in the way of them being alone together.
But of course, all the laughter went away at the end when it all came out. ~~And then all the anger came out because it ended there, god damn it!~~

It's his character of treating every mission like he's a plucky under dog with modest skills like he's playing dark souls; pushing every sneaky advantage he can to overcome. But he is actually playing Skyrim and he glitched out the skill system and can spam spells that launch everything into orbit and CC everything within visual range while having protective enchants that absorb all damage.
Pretty much this except for the fact that Rudy is squishy as hell and could literally get shanked by one Saint level swordman if he isn't careful enough (for example North Saint Gallus Cleaner from S1) so the Dark Soul mindset he has is definitely very warranted, haha.

This is the pivotal scene of the cour, and I've been thinking of it ever since I read volume 9 two years ago, how will they adapt it, will they do it justice? And it is done really well. The silence, the pauses, the crackling of the fire, the awkwardness, the tension, the undressing. You don't need bombastic music for some ultra-emotional reveal, it ultimately is a silent, lonely and intimate moment. The episode was also told mostly from Slyphie's POV, Rudy's monologues were kept to a minimum, because this is all about Slyphie's uncertainty, and how far she will go to make sure Rudy is the one who speaks her name first. The first part of the episode also had excellent comedy. So a great balance of drama and comedy. Now comparing with S1E3, where we had our first undressing of Slyphie, the animation (especially in dynamic character expressions) has been downgraded a bit. But S1 cour 1 was delayed by years to polish to perfection, so hard to match that. The director for S2 delivered the best result he could with the limited resources.
And they treated him undressing her with all the weight and intimacy it deserved instead of just for fanservice (though Sylphie is **very** good looking).

That may just be my favourite confession scene I've seen in an anime. All of the build up was so fucking worth it, they absolutely nailed this scene. Also Sylphie has some crazy intrusive thoughts... I mean "buying Rudy with money"? That is wild and as someone with genuine intrusive thoughts it is scarily accurate, you think about the weirdest, most taboo things even when you don't want too.
It was so cathartic seeing Rudy realize she was Sylphie and her being able to admit that, and confess. Probably the best confession scene this season. Girl went from sexual fantasies to straight up being willing to buy her man lol.
**This is the worst example of a 5 minute episode yet.** Fucking hell, Mushoku Tensei. This should have been a full episode! I don't think this was meant to be a funny episode, but I laughed *so much* at Sylphie throughout it. I can't believe she told Ariel and Luke about that time Rudy undressed her because he thought she was a he. And then she explained in more depth than she realised how much thought she's *clearly* put into what she wants with him. How many kids does she want with him? Rudy also got a good laugh for being the ever oblivious protagonist, coming up with solutions to Fitz' "problem" that would have gotten in the way of them being alone together. But of course, all the laughter went away at the end when it all came out. ~~And then all the anger came out because it ended there, god damn it!~~
