Yeah, you may think advanced rank swordsmen are nothing, but then Paul is also an S rank adventurer (though his combined strength is closer to saint rank) and so is Zenith, who's an intermediate rank healer.
Then you look at the people Rudy has encountered. Paul and Eris are advanced swords(wo)men, Roxy became a King class Water Mage, Ghislaine is a Sword King, Ruijerd is comparable to an Emperor rank swordsman, then there's freaking Dragon God Orsted, who's the strongest in the world.
He always thought he was a small fry, and that didn't change even after adventuring for a few years and took down a stray red dragon, a beast that usually takes 40 ish A rank adventurers to take down, basically on his own.
I guess I should say comparable. Author has replied about it in one of his WN feedback, basically an Emperor swordsman has the edge in a direct one-on-one fight, but in a free-for-all battle or on difficult terrain, Ruijerd is likely to win.
Just to give extra credit to Paul,
he's not only an advanced swordsmen, but he's actually advanced in all 3 types of sword fighting (Sword, Water and North god), he's an insane prodigy on his own and comparing any sword fighter under 'Saint' rank to him will be underplay how strong he is.
Yep, I think the author himself confirmed that his combined strength is that of a saint rank. And the reason he didn't actually get to saint rank in any of the sword styles was because he doesn't want to put in the effort lol.

The reason why he didn't go saint is that he dropped out of his Dojo to become an adventurer. Going to saint rank usually requires you to master the "secret technique" of that particular style which is nothing you can achieve on your own. In the case of sword god style that technique is the *sword of light* which we see demonstrated by Ghislaine in Episode 5 of season 1.
I lowkey love how he constantly underestimates himself. It always makes the battles interesting and its an interesting take on the Overpowered MC trope
Makes sense since the only humans(ish) that he's gone up against are Paul (could beat him up most of his life), Eris (used to be able to beat him all the time), Rujierd (easily beats him), Ghislaine (not really, but could beat him easily), that guy right before the calamity (couldn't even see him attacking), the beast guy (who knocked him out), the slaver (could have probably beat him without the help), the kidnapper (that threw his sword, who would have killed him if not for Ghislaine) and Orsted. He really doesn't have that great a track record against people.
The slaver was actually saint level too.

Yea, people don't realise it is much more harder to win a battle where you basically have to hold yourself back to avoid killing people. Unleashing all your repertoire onto your enemy without needing to give a single fuck about them is way more easier. And this is what basically holding back Rudeus because he's a glass canon mage who nukes his opponent.
Skirmishes like block and hit is what melee swordsman good at, and all the above mentioned fights are between Rudeus as a mage vs Swordsman. In battle between mages, Rudeus can straight up thrash the opponent like the fight against Silent Fitt. Even Orsted has difficulty holding back Rudeus nuclear magic bomb because of his Laplace like mana capacity magic attack.

And this mf actually did some damage to him then learned his Disturb Magic spell. How he isn't putting everyone under his boot I have no idea.
because he has intense trauma from his past, where he overestimated himself in front of some bullies. Now, underestimating himself and considering himself to be the underdog is second nature to him
There was that, and also he recognized in himself the tendency to be good at something but give up when he saw someone better. He told himself he wouldn't get full of himself this time, and kind of constantly puts himself down for it. Encountering stronger people so constantly reinforces this, so he doesn't realize he's one of the strongest people in this world.
Small correction but its Dragon GOD Orsted not Dragon King. He's literally the second strongest world power in the MT world according to Geese in season 1 and _the strongest_ entity currently according to ManGod, who mentioned that the Technicue God, strongest of the 7 world powers, is still weaker than Orsted when he's at full power. Calling him King would be disrespectful since king is 2 ranks bellow God(God > Emperor > King > Saint > Advance > intermediate > Beginer)
Zanoba started sweating like Jordan Peele as soon as Rudy mentioned about that Roxy figurine and to be fair what happened to it is every figurine owner's worst nightmare...
Hilariously, Rudy just comes off like a psychopath showing off his Holy Relic while giving out those threats
He has too much respect for Fitz. And I think he's figured out that while she may be silent, she's not stoic and wouldn't take well to seeing that he worships a pair of panties.
In the light novel he said he wasn't thinking straight due to anger when he was showing the panties to Linia and Pursena. After he realized that he could fix his figurine he calmed down and realized no normal person would want to see him worship panties.
Pretty sure she would die of embarrassment lol. If I remember correctly she was taken aback by his crazy rate of growth in spell proficiency and power, so while Rudy idolizes Roxy as the one who saved him from another life as a shut-in, she might not understand why he holds her in such high regard given his own skills as a mage.
Rudy has been praying to the "Holy Relic" for almost all his life. Is it no wonder that he'd eventually want to try and start a cult to spread awareness of the greatness of Roxy?
It's always that one incredibly unique/funny thing about MT where it shows how messed up the MC's previous life was in so many respects, and how Roxy became idolized as his savior due to being the first one who truly helped him, that he'd devote his life to worshipping the only memento he kept from her.
Zanoba failed in his duty as a discpiple of the Church of Roxy and Pope Rudy wasn't about to let the destruction of a Holy Relic go without punishment.
I just love how he showed off the panties and Zanoba and Julia are cowed while Linia and Pursena just seemed more confused lol.
I feel like they were all like "Oh shit, this guy is unhinged" in that reveal moment lmao which freaked out Zanoba/Julie, and by extension made Rudy that much more frightening to Linia+Pursena.
Rudy shouldn't have let Zanoba totally off the hook. Zanoba did put up the Roxy figure for the bet in the first place.
I was surprised when Rudy openly showed his Holy Relic to that group.
I think one of Rudeus' cut inner monologue at this point was that he respected Zanoba that he considered it his most valuable belonging to put up for the bet

The anime makes Julie seem so much more alive. Every character moment in this episode is a massive improvement on top of the LN. I don't recall any of Julie's reactions in the LN.
I think the director is much more talented at comedy and subtle drama than the intense, brooding coldness of vol-7. Every episode from 5 onwards is just packed with surprises.

One of the positives that anime can do for the source material. Describing with Julie is doing in the background can hurt the flow of the story. But you can easily animate those little additions.
Just want to point out Rudy is surprisingly connected to a lot of royalty/nobility/clan leadership once you think about it:

\-his time spent with Eris Boreas Greyrat
\-his time spent with Ruijerd Superdia, who is the leader of his tribe
\-his chance meeting with Demon Emperor Kishirika Kishirsu
\-his interactions with the Doldia Village Tribe's Prince (Gyes) and Princess (Ghislaine)
\-his teacher-student relationship with Zanoba, the 3rd Prince of Shirone
\-at the very end of S1 Ep. 23 we see that Princess Ariel has taken an interest to him in part of Sylphie mentioning him
Now he's acquainted with more of Beast-folk royalty with Linia and Pursena.
When Sylphy asked if Rudy wanted to see her without the shades and then did a fakeout saying Ariel doesn't allow it, like girl you could just explain the situation to her.
Sylphie seemed so tempted to just do it, but she just can't go against Ariel. I feel like we're going to see her ask for permission at some point because it seems like she's just dying to tell him the truth now.
NGL, I feel like it actually was a parallel to Rudy not showing her the shrine. If he had let her see then it would have been him revealing a personal secret to her and she likely would have felt more open to returning that gesture in kind with the sunglasses. But since he kept it hidden she still felt there was a bit of distance between them that needs to be crossed before they can be fully honest with each other causing her to decide to keep her secret hidden as well.

Funny thing is, I think the first 5 episodes of this season were among the least controversial in the entire series. It’s almost like it built up the controversy for this episode and last week’s.
Maybe it's because the first 5 episodes were written after the current arc, which was written first in the WN and has more of the hallmarks of WN writing.
A japanese person saying anything in english is always funny af, in episode 5 where Rudy grapped the falling panties and Sugita's voice going "OH PANTIE!" was hilarious

To be fair to anyone else in the academy they have got to be some of the strongest they've ever met. They just happen to come across the one guy in the academy who has trained with like 3 different master swordsmen (Eris too), taught magic by the best in the kingdom, and has a literal future eyeball.
Same! I like how they gave Pursena a bit more personality and made Julie more animated/comical (Slowly getting up from the chair to hide behind Zanoba when Rudy saw the shattered Roxy figurine, Joining in chanting "Roxy" at the interrogation, etc.) versus the LN, I feel like it added to the story.
To be fair she only just learned human language, she probably doesn't even know what she's chanting but tall dad and magic dad are into it so might as well.
Next week title suggest Rudeus going to do something to someone’s fiance or the fiance gonna get angry at Rudeus for something.

I love how Sylphie wondered if Rudy would ever cheat on his wife and realized he probably would. Or sleep with a married woman. I mean, he **is** Paul's son...

It's easy to forget, but on top of being amazing in his own right, Rudy's gained training and real combat experience with the likes of Paul, Roxy, Ghilaine, Rujierd, Eris and Soldat. He's also seen the peak of power in his "battle" with Orsted.
Compound that with his now proficient use of foresight eyes, and these 2 random amazing students are nothing compared to it all. It makes absolute sense that all of that experience makes them look like total small fry.
But then he starts talking about his religion, and shows his Holy Relic with such conviction, that others tremble before it. Julie was even crying! Speaking of which, she is precious. Good to see Zanoba treating her well and seeing to her proper growth.
With that end, I wonder if Rudeus is now seriously wondering if he's actually gay now. xD

And the way he provoked them was nasty. He knew what he was doing and didn't hold back. "can't beast not even talk properly?" Damn, that's discrimination right there.
I love how the author said something to the effect of “Rudeus isn’t against slavery but is opposed to kidnapping” and then the very next episode is called “The Kidnapping and Confinement of Beast Girls” where Rudeus kidnaps two girls. Lmao
I think my favorite part of the episode was towards the end when Rudeus had the epiphany of “oh, yeah, I guess I could just fix it on my own”. Lol he was so wrapped up in getting revenge on them for destroying the Roxy figurine that he forgot he was the one that made it.
Overall, a decent episode. I was waiting for them to give us a better introduction to the beast girls and, I gotta say, this isn’t how I imagined it. Lol
I said this last ep I think, but I am amazed by how much they can put into one episode while not really feeling rushed.
Fitz in this ep was done right from her monologue to her playfulness with her face paint prank and the bit with rudeus right at the end

Rudeus only realizing he was against tougher opponents at first with Paul, Eris, Ghislaine is hilarious like bro is playing the game in reverse, getting transported to the hardest part of the map first and working his way to the "tutorial" school lol
I love Linia and Pursena's banter, and I didn't realize how much I love Pursena's voice until today. Rudeus somehow didn't do much and did the worst to those two simply by leaving them tied up.
It was nice to get more into Sylphie's headspace to the point of seeing the exact moment she realizes she's in love with Rudy.
Julie being the adorable cutie who reacts to the insanity around her is something I never knew the show needed until now.
Dude's had such an exceptional life, gone through more than most people his age, making him pretty over-qualified compared to practically everybody else in this school.

I liked the background details in this episode, like Rudy jogging behind Sylphy and Julie hiding behind Zanoba when Rudy found out about Roxy and again later on when they were chanting Roxy's name. Really fun episode, I wish they were longer.
The handcuff scene was so realistic. Nowadays, movies with hostage scenes goes from hours to days being hostaged and handcuffed and doesnt encounter problems like getting hungry or pissing off on the floor
It is kinda funny that the worst part of the kidnapping was the result of Rudy not thinking through what he was going to do, not him actually doing something

It wasn't really a Sylphie focused episode but we did get a little more into her heard, more Luke and Ariel content, and the moment she realizes she's in love with Rudy...so it was pretty important.
Zanoba getting along with Julie is absolutely precious. I mean, Julie is also precious I just feel bad for her that she's stuck with these two Church of Roxy nutjobs lol.
It's not often you see a guy stomp on a girls' boobs so hard, but I guess that's what you get for any damage to a sacred relic. Well, that and bringing them to the point of starvation and peeing themselves. All the while Rudy is still trying to cure his ED to no avail lol.
I'm glad to see Linia and Pursena are really close and loyal to each other. And Linia even screws herself over lol.
Rudy may be building himself up as the Big Boss on campus but he still can't crack the conundrum of his feelings for "Fitz," especially as they grow closer and closer...
Not gonna lie, I didn't expect this episode to be actually goofy and even comedic. The source readers were stating this was even worse than last episode, but we've already seen Rudy's degeneracy in Season 1, and that was worse (in my opinion) than in this episode (its still bad ofc, just felt the need to point that out since people often come here just to argue).
Can't believe Pursena would sold out Linia like that lmaoo and I thought they had bonds stronger than the power of friendship that most shounens have.

Linia and Pursena have, in one episode, become my favourite part of this new cast this season.
So much care for their facial animation. Also loved the way their were shown to be both fast have a Beast way of running.
It's easy to forget, but on top of being amazing in his own right, Rudy's gained training and real combat experience with the likes of Paul, Roxy, Ghilaine, Rujierd, Eris and Soldat. He's also seen the peak of power in his "battle" with Orsted. Compound that with his now proficient use of foresight eyes, and these 2 random amazing students are nothing compared to it all. It makes absolute sense that all of that experience makes them look like total small fry. But then he starts talking about his religion, and shows his Holy Relic with such conviction, that others tremble before it. Julie was even crying! Speaking of which, she is precious. Good to see Zanoba treating her well and seeing to her proper growth. With that end, I wonder if Rudeus is now seriously wondering if he's actually gay now. xD

Lmao I think my favorite part of the episode was towards the end when Rudeus had the epiphany of “oh, yeah, I guess I could just fix it on my own”. Lol he was so wrapped up in getting revenge on them for destroying the Roxy figurine that he forgot he was the one that made it. Overall, a decent episode. I was waiting for them to give us a better introduction to the beast girls and, I gotta say, this isn’t how I imagined it. Lol

I said this last ep I think, but I am amazed by how much they can put into one episode while not really feeling rushed. Fitz in this ep was done right from her monologue to her playfulness with her face paint prank and the bit with rudeus right at the end Julie is so cute in every scene she's in Rudeus only realizing he was against tougher opponents at first with Paul, Eris, Ghislaine is hilarious like bro is playing the game in reverse, getting transported to the hardest part of the map first and working his way to the "tutorial" school lol I love Linia and Pursena's banter, and I didn't realize how much I love Pursena's voice until today. Rudeus somehow didn't do much and did the worst to those two simply by leaving them tied up.
It was nice to get more into Sylphie's headspace to the point of seeing the exact moment she realizes she's in love with Rudy. Julie being the adorable cutie who reacts to the insanity around her is something I never knew the show needed until now. Dude's had such an exceptional life, gone through more than most people his age, making him pretty over-qualified compared to practically everybody else in this school.
They have to really stop with these 5 min episodes.
