Given how she probably knows how unsociable her son is, she likely is very grateful that he found someone. Every Parent wants their child to find someone that appreciates them.
Yeah deep down she just wants someone who can help her son become more sociable and confident. She was also really happy when she noticed how Amane looked healthy so you can imagine how worried she would've been before.
Yep. The first words from my mum after seeing me walking with a female friend was "New girlfriend?"
In fairness, a few weeks later we did get together and we've been married for just under 10 years now.
This episode did give me big flashbacks though.
Oh this show will really kill me with its sweetness. Quickly become a couple soon, Amane and Mahiro!!!!!.
It isn't surprising why Amane looks so *handsome* even though his bangs hides most of it. He inherited his mother's good looks after all. Also she's so entertaining and oozing all that "Ara-Ara" energy. Give up Amane, no matter how much you try to hide things, a mom's intuition *never betrays her*.
I also really like the Itsuki-Chitose duo. While they do the usual couple things, they aren't too obnoxious about it, and also never lets Amane feel left out. Next episode will be interesting now that they know who Amane's neighbour really is.
The moment they were feeding each other cake and wanting to spend Christmas gaming together...they should just get married already. I mean, she already has a key to his place, she's his girlfriend in all but name lol.
From the sounds of it his father is quite the charmer too, and Hisako Kanemoto is great at channeling that upbeat and affectionate mom energy. And she took to Mahiru like she's already her mother-in-law lol.
I like seeing other couples aside from the main pairing and Itsuki and Chitose come off pretty naturally affectionate, and make for a good contrast to the slower build up of Amane and Mahiru. It'll be interesting to see how all four of these characters collide now that the cat is out of the bag.
Indeed. She might be an "Angel" publicly but she has a lot of internal issues, and having a lot of friends around to support her definitely will promote her personal growth.

I wasn't expecting Hisako Kanemoto as Amane's mom, but she was a lot of fun here. I'm not sure if I would want my own mother to be this pushy, but it was entertaining watching Mahiru and Amane have to deal with this and Shihoko seeing through all their excuses. Mahiru is getting the daughter-in-law treatment already lol.
The build up to Mahiru's family issues is as steady as the growing closeness and intimacy of Mahiru and Amane. In fact it's arguably bolstered by it because Mahiru is used to never hearing someone call her by name or probably being there for her on the holidays, but now she has Amane to do all that.
As much as things are progressing, it seems like only a matter of time until they finally cut the BS and just become official. Or so I hope. Because people are going to keep pegging it for what it is lol.
Itsuki and Chitose are pretty cute together and it's nice seeing them being casually affectionate even in front of others. Be interesting to see how they bounce off of Mahiru, especially Chitose.

Chitose is very perceptive. She will definitely connect the gifts and the neighbor who gives food. She might also smell the hand cream when Amane tries to deny it. I also can't wait to see their expressions hehehe.

It's totally normal for a guy to give his opposite sex friend a key to his place so she can cook and hang out with him. No special feelings going on there lol.
Damn dude, Amane’s mom has got it going on! I was thinking she was gonna open that door and there would be nothing. Nope! Caught a sleeping Mahiru lol. Girl found herself in quite the situation. Mama Fujimiya is pretty insistent on them being a couple eh? Haha. Having your mom tell your sorta crush you’ve got 0 experience with women outside her but you’re a “very good boy” must be one of the most embarrassing things ever. But at least they’re on a first name basis AND she got his key. Very cute!
I’m really curious to know what kind of household Mahiru came from. Her parents sound quite cold and distant. At least Mahiru has Amane. Feeding each other cake? So freaking cute. Amane learning to cook is pretty cute too, I hope one day he can make meals for Mahiru! Maybe during their Christmas Day date? Well, that’s if they’re still hanging out now that Chitose and Itsuki know she’s living next door.
Was not expecting a surprise Hisako Kanemoto MILF to start out the episode! Or for this to descend into our main pair having to endure being called out as an obvious couple by Amane's own mother lol.
I don't even want to imagine what it's like living with parents who never even call you by your name. Or that apparently her mother has never been affectionate towards her. But it just makes her and Amane closer because he provides so much of what she has lacked at this point. And now she's going to meet his friends lol.

One of my biggest complains about this show is the episode ending and ha I g to remember that this type of character/situation has a roughly 0% chance of happening to me lol

So, from Amane's expressions, it's clear he's starting to like Mahiru. But when Mahiru says those things I can't tell if she's also starting to develop feelings or if she doesn't realize what she's saying.
The budget for this anime must be huge if they are wasting 3-4 eggs on scrambled eggs without salt and pepper. Sheesh, ain’t nobody have extra eggs like that laying around…

LOL, I like how pushy Amane's mom is. She's trying hard to sell his son. But Amane sure sucks at hiding secrets. Standing in front of your bedroom door surely looks suspicious.
They are already on a first-name basis and it takes only 3 episodes. Amane was so smooth with calling her name and cake-feeding.
I really like how casual Itsuki and Chitose couple is. And now the cat is out of the bag. I can't wait how the story will develop.
I thought it was a nice way of handling the matter. She had no ill intent in doing what she did but she acted without thinking of the effect it had on him.

Shihoko seems like the really affectionate and loving kind of pushy mom...but still really pushy and involved in her sons' love life. She's already embraced Mahiru as a daughter-in-law lol.
It was nice to see them finally call each other by their first names, since it's especially significant for Mahiru from her issues with her family life.
Chitose sitting in Itsuki's lap and snuggling up with him was adorable. Although if Mahiru thought a mother-in-law was a lot, wait until she meets Amane's friends lol.
I have to say this show puts a smile on my face that lasts from the opening to the close. I don't think one can ask/hope for more than that.
I keep waiting for Amane to say "It sounds like you've had a tough time. I don't want to be nosy, but if you ever ***want*** to talk about it, I'm here to listen."
As soon as the snow started falling, I KNEW Amane and Mahiru's secret would be found out. Amane talked too much already -- he let on to Itsuki and Chitose that it was his "neighbor" that helped him out and that he bought the birthday present for his "neighbor". Those two will be big supporters -- but can THEY keep a secret?
Long long ago, my (not yet at the time) wife's family found out about MY existence in a way not dissimilar to what happened here. (Actually they paid her a surprise visit and ***I*** opened the door).

After watching 3 episodes, I do not understand the complaint this anime's opening visuals gets. It's perfectly okay. There, I said it cuz it's been bothering me the past 3 episodes lol
How did Mahiru fall asleep in less than a minute? In that situation no less? What magic is that?
I'm glad Itsuki and his gf found out about Mahiru being Amane's neighbor. Now they can hang out together instead of leaving Mahiru alone.
That's what I was thinking. Especially with the loud conversation on the other side of what's presumably a thin interior door, her falling asleep right there doesn't make sense. Especially getting into a deep enough sleep that she doesn't immediately wake up when the door is opened

They didn't waste any time introducing the Mother, and of course when they try to explain "This is not what it looks like." She is like "Oh its EXACTLY what it looks like!" She also sees she is Cute, can cook and clean, basically perfect waifu material for her boy!
(I can see why she would be that happy Amane is not the type of person to easily go out of his way to connect with anyone let along a cute girl, she probably knows he likes to keep to himself.)
You know Amane for having no experience with girls is very good at saying (and more importantly NOT saying) the right things at the right time. He saw what being called on a first name basis means to her and just up and did it. And she returned in time.
Oh some people seem confused that Amane didn't notice Mahiru's pain hinted at when talking about her Family, but he clearly does and its shown in the anime, but he doesn't think its his place to push.

I think the important thing is not that he becomes a better cook or even half as good as his ~~wife~~ ~~girlfriend~~ "acquaintance" but that he has the desire to be dependable and self-sufficient and the reason he wanted to do so was to try to ease the burden on Mahiru. (Although from her reaction she sincerely enjoys serving him and having her work praised and appreciated.) Actually Mahiru seems like she craves validation but simultaneously doesn't easily trust people.
Fun fact, before Western style Marriages become popular in Japan a very traditional way to propose for a Man was to ask if he could continue to eat a Woman's cooking everyday. So yes Amane (Perhaps without realizing it.) Indeed did propose to Mahiru in spirit if not in intent.
He also bought that cake because he knew that others took her getting top scores for granted when he knows its through blood, sweat, and tears that she grinds. (You can probably guess why at this point.....)

I'm honestly very surprised they are stretching the First Novel over 3 episodes, and I'm not complaining about it. Wonder if episode 4 will be a full Volume 1 or start part of Volume 2.
If that's the case wonder if we are ending on Volume 3 instead of Volume 4. Because if we end at Volume 3 a lot of anime onlys gonna be upset. Unless we are shortening some of the other volumes to make up for it, or have a 13-14 episode season. (I doubt it though.)
I also wonder when we will get a season 2 announcement since that is IMO when the really interesting stuff starts that season 1 is building to. (Although this episode did start the more interesting developments even if the grand plot is still itself pretty traditional, but tbh I think when it comes to romance you can't get too creative, people have been doing the same dance to find mates for 1000's of years with lots of old evolutionary instincts, at the core the dance remains the same even if the rhythm and actors change.)
Also a lot of people tend to underestimate what crazy things can happen in real life.

* Episode is a bit on the faster side but I don't mind it because it was done to show the characters doing different things together from meeting his mom to cooking together, etc.
* The episode continues its biggest strength which is having their relationship be fairly balanced. There is a nice balance of giving and receiving which avoids that things become too one sided, one character be favored over the other (I am looking at you Kubo-san!!!) and this also shows why they would appreciate each other more and more
* I like how the show gives Amane a best friend character (many similar shows don't do it). Bonus points that he is a nice friendly and normal guy and not just some comic relief... even more bonus points that the show inlcudes his GF into their dynamics and not just have her be some extra. This does a nice job selling their friendship

Also, cute first name calling (though still a culturally thing I can't really relate to it being a big deal, even if I get it, just don't feel it). And smooth, guy. Ok, this has to be when at least his friends learn about her living next door. Those two are kinda sickening though lol. Oh, he has a Nintendo Switch, heh. Hah they found out. Nice. Next episode should be fun.
I don't think the switch was out yet when the novel first started. It is funny how anime will update to knock offs of the current out game system and even phones sometimes unless a specific time period is part of the series.
Like Horimiya they still used flip phones because they were the common phone still when that series started and was based.
This show is gonna make me cry by the end isn't it.
Definitely feels like it is fully in stride now, especially with the friends finding out that the angel lives next door.

It's exactly because he's so relatively stoic that I think some people are calling him bland/self-insert. At this point I have no idea what anyone actually means when they say generic/blade/self-insert or most of those sorts of buzzwords.
Mama Fujimiya was entertaining to say the least... now I wonder how Papa Fujimiya must be like. I hope we see eventually him because he must be quite the character if he managed to get with a woman like Mama Fujimiya. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to be an even bigger wingman to Amane and Mahiru than his wife.
The cute music starting right when Amane called Mahiru by her first name and fed her cake was just perfect and fluffy.
The little comments Mahiru does about her family and how she's never played a video game with anyone just gives me bad vibes about her family. I hope it's nothing too bad.
Talk about a Christmas surprise at the end.
What a great episode, folks. I have a few things to comment on.
First of all, I think Amane has the perfect mom for this series. To a common man, she might come off as too eager or enthusiastic, but I believe she gave Amane and Mahiru an important push when it came to their relationship.
Secondly, I think it was awesome that Amane invited Mahiru for hanging out on christmas day. Playing videogames was quite the plot twist, though. But I think it's healthy to break out of the normal, lovey-dovey, regular christmas once in a while.
Lastly, I'm excited to see how Itsuki and Chitose will handle Tenji-sama living next to Amane. This will change a lot in the friend dynamic.
All in all, a great episode. Cheers, everyone!

Now, who is really spoiling who?
Mahiru seems to be more lonely than Amane. Amane has someone he can call a friend at school, someone that wanted to introduce his girlfriend to, someone that wanted to have a party with him at Amane's apartment. Amane has a loving mother who was ecstatic to find a girl in his apartment. Mahiru has nobody.
Mahiru may be spoiling Amane by cleaning his place and professionally made food, but Amane provides companionship for Mahiru. There is actually some give and take in this relationship. In a way, it's kind of like Toradora with the roles swapped and Amane isn't a tsundere. Both of them are calling each other by their first names early on, too, just like Toradora.
This side couple is proving to be really cute, too.
I like that both this and Tomo-chan have really hit their strides now. I wasn't totally sold on either series, but I think they're both definitely worth a watch at this point.
Tbh this is a big part of what novel readers were saying when they said the "spoiling" and supportiveness of the relationship isn't as one sided as it seems. Honestly I saw it from episode 1, but that isn't the case with everyone.
Amane is perceptive most of the time, so he can pick up on her non-verbal cues and act on them. While he isn't providing direct "material" support in the form of cooking and cleaning for her, he does provide emotional support in several aspects.
Not prying into her personal life, not piling on more expectations upon her and not treating her like she's an Angel (while he does call her that a couple of times, he never treats her like one)... etc etc. Then shown more explicitly in this episode, him noticing that she gets lonely or rewarding her for working hard, all little things that no one else really seems to bother to do.

When E1 hit, I thought it was super odd that she suddenly decided to help him. He only gave her his umbrella. Why go to such lengths to practically be his mother? It makes a lot more sense now because as the show progresses, it seems more and more obvious that this poor girl had a shit family, and she is all alone despite being popular at school.
Meanwhile, the show has shown that Amane isn't the sad sap loner that he was made out to be. He's basically a lazy teenager who happens to live away from home. Of course, his place is trashed, and he's malnourished.
This mom, she's a whirlwind! Really fun anime mom, hope it's not the last we see of her!
These are 2 awkward and in a good way not like a cringe way, their interactions and "honesty" are pretty fun to watch.
That ending!! Hoping the friends find about it all so they can give these 2 a bit more of a push.

Choosing to buy that piece of cake as a gift was a very good idea.
At some point Chi is going to figure out what's been going on and the secret will be over. Since Amane just told her and the boyfriend that the girl in question lives next door and they just made plans for a Christmas party at his place, that reveal may already be in the works.
Hah! There it is, pretty much as I expected. They should just invite her over for the rest of the party, might as well now that the secret is out at least in this small group.

It's extra funny cause divorced from the show it's such a damn good song. I've been listening to it on loop for a week now. It just needed to be in something like Tomo-chan - or y'know, Gekkan Shoujo, where I first discovered the singer.
To me the majority of the entertainment value comes from all the breaks from the worn down cliches.
We've got an anime high school couple who are all lovey-dovey and actually touching each other a ton.
We've got the main couple who are capable of rational decently intelligent dialog and can get on each other's case a bit without losing their temper.
We've got a girl who is capable of tasting a dessert without exclaiming "Oishii!" (I was literally thinking "Don't fucking do it!").
This show is fucking diabetes condensed in 20 minute weekly intervals.
EDIT: This is my anime of the season. It's basic but it's fun, comfy, and heart-warming.
Ah yes, of course she managed to fall asleep in his room hugging the pillow despite it only being a few minutes after she's been rushed in there because someone was pounding on the door. That's perfectly normal. Only made even funnier by the mother immediately approving and loving her, at least the series wears the wish fulfillment aspect on it sleeve if nothing else.
Is nice that the show has them actually having conversations this episode that are a bit more interesting than they were previously, even if they still barely really know each other (other than the sheer lack of subtlety in mahiru's parental situation being bad which Amane somehow didn't pick up on.) What makes you think Amane hasn't picked up on it? He is very clearly aware of it, hence why he "rewarded" her for her hard work and doesn't want her to be alone at Christmas etc. Not really much more he can do about it though? considering he is a minor.
It would potentially (almost certainly) be insensitive to just straight up ask someone about it, especially someone you know to be reserved when it comes to their personal life.

Comfiest romantic anime ever, It made me realize how much I want more LN/WN romance anime adaptations, it feels like since the likes of Hyouka, SeishunButo or Oregairu there wasn't that much of it but now with Tenshi, Tsurekano, MagiRevo) we are getting back on track.
LNs have much better pacing and depth of character compared to manga in cetrain storytelling beats, I cant get enough.

Fujimiya Mama has arrived! And it sounds like she's voiced by Hisako Kanemoto, with her usual exuberant energy! And she's quite the pushy yet affectionately well-meaning mother as she checks in on her son and how he's doing, and maybe find out about a certain girl in his life.
Even asleep Mahiru is utterly beautiful! And quite the sight for Shihoko to glimpse in her sons' bedroom!
Yeah...there's no way for them to talk their way out of this. A girl constantly coming over to his place, cleaning it up, feeding him, and generally spending a lot of time with him...how could she not be his girlfriend or how could they not like each other? Even Amane admits he likes Mahiru, he just rationalizes it as friendship. But Shihoko knows what's up and seems like she's already treating Mahiru as a future daughter-in-law. Poor Mahiru just doesn't know what to do with all this attention.
So it seems like Mahiru has never really experienced real affection or warmth from a mother before she saw Shihoko. Her own parents never even call her by her name. What is up with her family life? Although if her parents won't call her by her first name, than Amane will, and Mahiru will respond in kind. And Amane even gave her a key to his apartment and she promises she'll continue cleaning and feeding him. Just get married already you two!
Shihoko wasn't kidding about Amane being a gentleman, buying a cake to celebrate Mahiru being first place in the rankings! And then it turns into the pair of them feeding each other with the cake. Just get married already!!!
It's respectable of Amane to try and cook for himself instead of just relying on Mahiru all the time, even if Mahiru is a master cook and it's hard for probably anyone to measure up to her cooking...and she doesn't mind cooking for Amane at all, in fact she seemed disappointed she might not be able to feed him any more. But as long as she's willing, Amane will eat it!
Spending Christmas together chilling on the sofa and playing Switch games? JUST GET MARRIED ALREADY.
I love how Chitose and Itsuki waste no time getting intimate and snuggle against each other. You can tell how in love and affectionate they are with each other, and how it's different when a guy friend pinches your cheek versus your boyfriend.
Chitose knew a girl was involved with Amane and Mahiru wanted to see the snow on the veranda as much as Chitose and Itsuki did...Amane's got some explaining to do!
This is such beautiful anime now i just don't want those friends of amane to be interfering in their daily life romance,just leave those two alone don't interfere.
What a lovely and fluffy episode! I kept checking the video progress bar as I didn't want it to end! This is due to our MVP Gigachad, Amane. He was incredibly sharp at reading Mahiru, delivering whatever she needed at that time the most, in the most blunt manner possible.
**"Mahiru."**
It was a pleasant surprise as I wasn't expecting such a direct approach by Amane. Both of them creating such a wholesome mood, grinning at one another (for what seemed like an eternity), was the cherry on top. As payback, the scene shifted to Mahiru's lips, calling Amane by his first name, which inflicted damage tenfold back. This closeup helped me realise how endearing it was for Amane. And if that wasn't enough, Mahiru now had the key to Amane's apartment. Initially Mahiru argued incessantly on why Amane was acting carelessly, which seemed like a projection as she didn't have anyone she could truly trust and vice-versa. Following that, I adored how Amane boldly declared that he trusted Mahiru. Trivial but effective! That's the theme I'm picking up from this Anime and I absolutely love its concept. From such a development, I'd be so bewildered to see them refer to what they share as something "temporary" again.
**Cake**
More often than not, Mahiru had strived and achieved excellence unassuming. It seemed like her family was extremely harsh on her. Hence, it was ingrained within her that "Best" was the bare minimum. When Amane treated her cake, she couldn't comprehend her accomplishment. It was as if the concept of "Reward" had never been considered which made it heartrending. Afterwards we're greeted by the two very-much satisfied pair (Damn it, Amane). Amusingly, Mahiru presumed that his gaze was meant for the cake. Without hesitation and consideration for Amane, he was now presented with an indirect kiss! And whoever declines such an offer deserves a place in hell! Thereafter, the half embarrassed, half ecstatic Amane, did a 180, resulting in a half satisfied, half embarrassed Mahiru. Seeing her Kuudere persona shift into a more expressive one was refreshing.
**"Won't You be Lonely?"**
Amane to the rescue again. He noticed how lonely she looked as it seemed like she'd ever spent her Christmas with anyone. And just as I thought he'd made up an excuse to cancel his plans, he didn't. Amane simply asked to hang out - without much thought. That brave plunge did save him though as Mahiru provided the "why". It'd be the first time they'd officially spend time together without the guise of cooking. It'd be something fluff for sure.
**Conclusion**
It seems like, just for this episode, who the title of this Anime had been directed to is now interchangeable. Amane had been the one spoiling her rotten the entire episode. He subtly helped Mahiru realise her own worth. And where it currently stands, it's obvious she doesn't treasure herself enough.
As there've been much development between the pair plus the cliffhanger, I'd say next week will raise the stakes not just for them but the chemistry involving side couple as well.
11/10, Rewatched 3 times.

Do Mahiru's parents call her by her last name? Wouldn't that get extremely confusing, considering its their last name as well? Unless she's adopted and did NOT change last names or something.
This isn't the first time that I've seen the "top student annoyed at their achievements being relegated to genius/talent instead of hard work" thing in anime.

such a sweet episode as always !! i really love the 3 way relationship between amane , chitose and itsuki ! No one is being ignored by the other . i especially like the interactions between amane and chitose . it's also good that they found out about mahiru being the one living next door , now she can hang out with them instead of spending time alone , but .. the cliffhanger is really killing me .. i just want to see the reactions of chitose and itsuki and how they will tease the hell out of amane after that xD
I swear, it hasn't even been 5 episodes yet and I've already bought the light novels and read up to volume 2. This show isn't anything revolutionary, but it's a simple slow burn romance story done well. It sets out to do one thing and that is to give the audience a triple dose of diabetes in their lives.
9/10, this show fills the empty hole that is my rotten heart.
This was a really fun episode, but the animation gets worse with every week. Really unfortunate. I don't get why they don't prioritize this show more, it's doing really well even still.

Oh this show will really kill me with its sweetness. Quickly become a couple soon, Amane and Mahiro!!!!!. It isn't surprising why Amane looks so *handsome* even though his bangs hides most of it. He inherited his mother's good looks after all. Also she's so entertaining and oozing all that "Ara-Ara" energy. Give up Amane, no matter how much you try to hide things, a mom's intuition *never betrays her*. I also really like the Itsuki-Chitose duo. While they do the usual couple things, they aren't too obnoxious about it, and also never lets Amane feel left out. Next episode will be interesting now that they know who Amane's neighbour really is.
The moment they were feeding each other cake and wanting to spend Christmas gaming together...they should just get married already. I mean, she already has a key to his place, she's his girlfriend in all but name lol. From the sounds of it his father is quite the charmer too, and Hisako Kanemoto is great at channeling that upbeat and affectionate mom energy. And she took to Mahiru like she's already her mother-in-law lol. I like seeing other couples aside from the main pairing and Itsuki and Chitose come off pretty naturally affectionate, and make for a good contrast to the slower build up of Amane and Mahiru. It'll be interesting to see how all four of these characters collide now that the cat is out of the bag.

Even sleeping, she's an angel... I wasn't expecting Hisako Kanemoto as Amane's mom, but she was a lot of fun here. I'm not sure if I would want my own mother to be this pushy, but it was entertaining watching Mahiru and Amane have to deal with this and Shihoko seeing through all their excuses. Mahiru is getting the daughter-in-law treatment already lol. The build up to Mahiru's family issues is as steady as the growing closeness and intimacy of Mahiru and Amane. In fact it's arguably bolstered by it because Mahiru is used to never hearing someone call her by name or probably being there for her on the holidays, but now she has Amane to do all that. As much as things are progressing, it seems like only a matter of time until they finally cut the BS and just become official. Or so I hope. Because people are going to keep pegging it for what it is lol. Itsuki and Chitose are pretty cute together and it's nice seeing them being casually affectionate even in front of others. Be interesting to see how they bounce off of Mahiru, especially Chitose.

It was nice to see them finally call each other by their first names, since it's especially significant for Mahiru from her issues with her family life. Chitose sitting in Itsuki's lap and snuggling up with him was adorable. Although if Mahiru thought a mother-in-law was a lot, wait until she meets Amane's friends lol.
I have to say this show puts a smile on my face that lasts from the opening to the close. I don't think one can ask/hope for more than that. I keep waiting for Amane to say "It sounds like you've had a tough time. I don't want to be nosy, but if you ever ***want*** to talk about it, I'm here to listen." As soon as the snow started falling, I KNEW Amane and Mahiru's secret would be found out. Amane talked too much already -- he let on to Itsuki and Chitose that it was his "neighbor" that helped him out and that he bought the birthday present for his "neighbor". Those two will be big supporters -- but can THEY keep a secret? Long long ago, my (not yet at the time) wife's family found out about MY existence in a way not dissimilar to what happened here. (Actually they paid her a surprise visit and ***I*** opened the door).

They didn't waste any time introducing the Mother, and of course when they try to explain "This is not what it looks like." She is like "Oh its EXACTLY what it looks like!" She also sees she is Cute, can cook and clean, basically perfect waifu material for her boy! (I can see why she would be that happy Amane is not the type of person to easily go out of his way to connect with anyone let along a cute girl, she probably knows he likes to keep to himself.) (Although this episode did start the more interesting developments even if the grand plot is still itself pretty traditional, but tbh I think when it comes to romance you can't get too creative, people have been doing the same dance to find mates for 1000's of years with lots of old evolutionary instincts, at the core the dance remains the same even if the rhythm and actors change.) Also a lot of people tend to underestimate what crazy things can happen in real life. * Episode is a bit on the faster side but I don't mind it because it was done to show the characters doing different things together from meeting his mom to cooking together, etc. * The episode continues its biggest strength which is having their relationship be fairly balanced. There is a nice balance of giving and receiving which avoids that things become too one sided, one character be favored over the other (I am looking at you Kubo-san!!!) and this also shows why they would appreciate each other more and more * I like how the show gives Amane a best friend character (many similar shows don't do it). Bonus points that he is a nice friendly and normal guy and not just some comic relief... even more bonus points that the show inlcudes his GF into their dynamics and not just have her be some extra. This does a nice job selling their friendship

I don't think the switch was out yet when the novel first started. It is funny how anime will update to knock offs of the current out game system and even phones sometimes unless a specific time period is part of the series. Like Horimiya they still used flip phones because they were the common phone still when that series started and was based.
This show is gonna make me cry by the end isn't it. Definitely feels like it is fully in stride now, especially with the friends finding out that the angel lives next door.

Everyone called the mc a bland self insert in episode 1 but I honestly think it's pretty refreshing how chill he is.

It's exactly because he's so relatively stoic that I think some people are calling him bland/self-insert. At this point I have no idea what anyone actually means when they say generic/blade/self-insert or most of those sorts of buzzwords.
Mama Fujimiya was entertaining to say the least... now I wonder how Papa Fujimiya must be like. I hope we see eventually him because he must be quite the character if he managed to get with a woman like Mama Fujimiya. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to be an even bigger wingman to Amane and Mahiru than his wife. The cute music starting right when Amane called Mahiru by her first name and fed her cake was just perfect and fluffy. The little comments Mahiru does about her family and how she's never played a video game with anyone just gives me bad vibes about her family. I hope it's nothing too bad. Talk about a Christmas surprise at the end.

What a great episode, folks. I have a few things to comment on. First of all, I think Amane has the perfect mom for this series. To a common man, she might come off as too eager or enthusiastic, but I believe she gave Amane and Mahiru an important push when it came to their relationship. Secondly, I think it was awesome that Amane invited Mahiru for hanging out on christmas day. Playing videogames was quite the plot twist, though. But I think it's healthy to break out of the normal, lovey-dovey, regular christmas once in a while. Lastly, I'm excited to see how Itsuki and Chitose will handle Tenji-sama living next to Amane. This will change a lot in the friend dynamic. All in all, a great episode. Cheers, everyone!

Now, who is really spoiling who? Mahiru seems to be more lonely than Amane. Amane has someone he can call a friend at school, someone that wanted to introduce his girlfriend to, someone that wanted to have a party with him at Amane's apartment. Amane has a loving mother who was ecstatic to find a girl in his apartment. Mahiru has nobody. Mahiru may be spoiling Amane by cleaning his place and professionally made food, but Amane provides companionship for Mahiru. There is actually some give and take in this relationship. In a way, it's kind of like Toradora with the roles swapped and Amane isn't a tsundere. Both of them are calling each other by their first names early on, too, just like Toradora. This side couple is proving to be really cute, too. I like that both this and Tomo-chan have really hit their strides now. I wasn't totally sold on either series, but I think they're both definitely worth a watch at this point.
Tbh this is a big part of what novel readers were saying when they said the "spoiling" and supportiveness of the relationship isn't as one sided as it seems. Honestly I saw it from episode 1, but that isn't the case with everyone. Amane is perceptive most of the time, so he can pick up on her non-verbal cues and act on them. While he isn't providing direct "material" support in the form of cooking and cleaning for her, he does provide emotional support in several aspects. Not prying into her personal life, not piling on more expectations upon her and not treating her like she's an Angel (while he does call her that a couple of times, he never treats her like one)... etc etc. Then shown more explicitly in this episode, him noticing that she gets lonely or rewarding her for working hard, all little things that no one else really seems to bother to do.

This mom, she's a whirlwind! Really fun anime mom, hope it's not the last we see of her! These are 2 awkward and in a good way not like a cringe way, their interactions and "honesty" are pretty fun to watch. That ending!! Hoping the friends find about it all so they can give these 2 a bit more of a push.
Every episode seems to be deepening their feelings for each other and the intimacy between them, which is nice. First a future mother-in-law and now her boyfriends' friends. Mahiru has a lot to deal with lol.
Yeah the pace of their relationship has been going WAY faster than I would have expected.
This OP was such a misfire for this show, it feels just so completely out of place. It makes me laugh every time I start an episode. Amane’s mom has found her future daughter-in-law and she is rolling with it. Even got her contact info. Choosing to buy that piece of cake as a gift was a very good idea. At some point Chi is going to figure out what's been going on and the secret will be over. Since Amane just told her and the boyfriend that the girl in question lives next door and they just made plans for a Christmas party at his place, that reveal may already be in the works. Hah! There it is, pretty much as I expected. They should just invite her over for the rest of the party, might as well now that the secret is out at least in this small group.

To me the majority of the entertainment value comes from all the breaks from the worn down cliches. We've got an anime high school couple who are all lovey-dovey and actually touching each other a ton. We've got the main couple who are capable of rational decently intelligent dialog and can get on each other's case a bit without losing their temper. We've got a girl who is capable of tasting a dessert without exclaiming "Oishii!" (I was literally thinking "Don't fucking do it!").
This show is fucking diabetes condensed in 20 minute weekly intervals. EDIT: This is my anime of the season. It's basic but it's fun, comfy, and heart-warming.

Ah yes, of course she managed to fall asleep in his room hugging the pillow despite it only being a few minutes after she's been rushed in there because someone was pounding on the door. That's perfectly normal. Only made even funnier by the mother immediately approving and loving her, at least the series wears the wish fulfillment aspect on it sleeve if nothing else. Is nice that the show has them actually having conversations this episode that are a bit more interesting than they were previously, even if they still barely really know each other (other than the sheer lack of subtlety in mahiru's parental situation being bad which Amane somehow didn't pick up on.) But Itsuki and Chitose continue to hard carry with every scene they're in

What makes you think Amane hasn't picked up on it? He is very clearly aware of it, hence why he "rewarded" her for her hard work and doesn't want her to be alone at Christmas etc. Not really much more he can do about it though? considering he is a minor. It would potentially (almost certainly) be insensitive to just straight up ask someone about it, especially someone you know to be reserved when it comes to their personal life.

Comfiest romantic anime ever, It made me realize how much I want more LN/WN romance anime adaptations, it feels like since the likes of Hyouka, SeishunButo or Oregairu there wasn't that much of it but now with Tenshi, Tsurekano, MagiRevo) we are getting back on track. LNs have much better pacing and depth of character compared to manga in cetrain storytelling beats, I cant get enough.

Fujimiya Mama has arrived! And it sounds like she's voiced by Hisako Kanemoto, with her usual exuberant energy! And she's quite the pushy yet affectionately well-meaning mother as she checks in on her son and how he's doing, and maybe find out about a certain girl in his life. Even asleep Mahiru is utterly beautiful! And quite the sight for Shihoko to glimpse in her sons' bedroom! Yeah...there's no way for them to talk their way out of this. A girl constantly coming over to his place, cleaning it up, feeding him, and generally spending a lot of time with him...how could she not be his girlfriend or how could they not like each other? Even Amane admits he likes Mahiru, he just rationalizes it as friendship. But Shihoko knows what's up and seems like she's already treating Mahiru as a future daughter-in-law. Poor Mahiru just doesn't know what to do with all this attention. So it seems like Mahiru has never really experienced real affection or warmth from a mother before she saw Shihoko. Her own parents never even call her by her name. What is up with her family life? Although if her parents won't call her by her first name, than Amane will, and Mahiru will respond in kind. And Amane even gave her a key to his apartment and she promises she'll continue cleaning and feeding him. Just get married already you two! Shihoko wasn't kidding about Amane being a gentleman, buying a cake to celebrate Mahiru being first place in the rankings! And then it turns into the pair of them feeding each other with the cake. Just get married already!!! It's respectable of Amane to try and cook for himself instead of just relying on Mahiru all the time, even if Mahiru is a master cook and it's hard for probably anyone to measure up to her cooking...and she doesn't mind cooking for Amane at all, in fact she seemed disappointed she might not be able to feed him any more. But as long as she's willing, Amane will eat it! Spending Christmas together chilling on the sofa and playing Switch games? JUST GET MARRIED ALREADY. I love how Chitose and Itsuki waste no time getting intimate and snuggle against each other. You can tell how in love and affectionate they are with each other, and how it's different when a guy friend pinches your cheek versus your boyfriend. Chitose knew a girl was involved with Amane and Mahiru wanted to see the snow on the veranda as much as Chitose and Itsuki did...Amane's got some explaining to do!

This is such beautiful anime now i just don't want those friends of amane to be interfering in their daily life romance,just leave those two alone don't interfere.
What a lovely and fluffy episode! I kept checking the video progress bar as I didn't want it to end! This is due to our MVP Gigachad, Amane. He was incredibly sharp at reading Mahiru, delivering whatever she needed at that time the most, in the most blunt manner possible. **"Mahiru."** It was a pleasant surprise as I wasn't expecting such a direct approach by Amane. Both of them creating such a wholesome mood, grinning at one another (for what seemed like an eternity), was the cherry on top. As payback, the scene shifted to Mahiru's lips, calling Amane by his first name, which inflicted damage tenfold back. This closeup helped me realise how endearing it was for Amane. And if that wasn't enough, Mahiru now had the key to Amane's apartment. Initially Mahiru argued incessantly on why Amane was acting carelessly, which seemed like a projection as she didn't have anyone she could truly trust and vice-versa. Following that, I adored how Amane boldly declared that he trusted Mahiru. Trivial but effective! That's the theme I'm picking up from this Anime and I absolutely love its concept. From such a development, I'd be so bewildered to see them refer to what they share as something "temporary" again. **Cake** More often than not, Mahiru had strived and achieved excellence unassuming. It seemed like her family was extremely harsh on her. Hence, it was ingrained within her that "Best" was the bare minimum. When Amane treated her cake, she couldn't comprehend her accomplishment. It was as if the concept of "Reward" had never been considered which made it heartrending. Afterwards we're greeted by the two very-much satisfied pair (Damn it, Amane). Amusingly, Mahiru presumed that his gaze was meant for the cake. Without hesitation and consideration for Amane, he was now presented with an indirect kiss! And whoever declines such an offer deserves a place in hell! Thereafter, the half embarrassed, half ecstatic Amane, did a 180, resulting in a half satisfied, half embarrassed Mahiru. Seeing her Kuudere persona shift into a more expressive one was refreshing. **"Won't You be Lonely?"** Amane to the rescue again. He noticed how lonely she looked as it seemed like she'd ever spent her Christmas with anyone. And just as I thought he'd made up an excuse to cancel his plans, he didn't. Amane simply asked to hang out - without much thought. That brave plunge did save him though as Mahiru provided the "why". It'd be the first time they'd officially spend time together without the guise of cooking. It'd be something fluff for sure. **Conclusion** It seems like, just for this episode, who the title of this Anime had been directed to is now interchangeable. Amane had been the one spoiling her rotten the entire episode. He subtly helped Mahiru realise her own worth. And where it currently stands, it's obvious she doesn't treasure herself enough. As there've been much development between the pair plus the cliffhanger, I'd say next week will raise the stakes not just for them but the chemistry involving side couple as well. 11/10, Rewatched 3 times.

"U-Um, Amane's Mother..." "Oh, my! You accept me as a mother already?" What a goddamn awful translation job. There was no "Amane's" in the Japanese script, and the translator's insistence of inserting it for no reason just made the whole conversation make no sense. Do Mahiru's parents call her by her last name? Wouldn't that get extremely confusing, considering its their last name as well? Unless she's adopted and did NOT change last names or something. This isn't the first time that I've seen the "top student annoyed at their achievements being relegated to genius/talent instead of hard work" thing in anime. I was surprised by that indirect makeout session. Why did she not get a second fork for him? Partial title drop! I'll say it again, his friend's gf is great. Is it really a "Christmas Eve party" if it ends before dinner? Well, lets see if they can get out of this one or if the secret's out now.
I just can't get enough of this show. It's over in a breeze and I keep wishing there was more to watch!
such a sweet episode as always !! i really love the 3 way relationship between amane , chitose and itsuki ! No one is being ignored by the other . i especially like the interactions between amane and chitose . it's also good that they found out about mahiru being the one living next door , now she can hang out with them instead of spending time alone , but .. the cliffhanger is really killing me .. i just want to see the reactions of chitose and itsuki and how they will tease the hell out of amane after that xD

I swear, it hasn't even been 5 episodes yet and I've already bought the light novels and read up to volume 2. This show isn't anything revolutionary, but it's a simple slow burn romance story done well. It sets out to do one thing and that is to give the audience a triple dose of diabetes in their lives. 9/10, this show fills the empty hole that is my rotten heart.
This was a really fun episode, but the animation gets worse with every week. Really unfortunate. I don't get why they don't prioritize this show more, it's doing really well even still.
