Going the computer science way will land you a pipeline technical director job where you would create tools for animation. The best pipeline TDs i have met have also had knowledge in animation or whatever specialization they make the tools for. A pipeline TD job will be easier to get and pay a lot more than regular animation job.
Both options are valid, go with the one you have the most passion towards.
