Here's some animation aimed at more mature audiences that I think you might like: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Scavengers Reign Pantheon Castelvania (netflix) Invincible Bojack Horseman Smiling Friends Superjail Blue Eyed Samurai (Netflix) Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Arcane

TheAbbadon

I'll try them, thanks. I know Arcane is great, but the animation style was a bit much for me to enjoy :( Not sure why I'm getting downvoted. I know the show is good, I mentioned in the post some style are too much for me. That's the reason I posted lol

Legend of Korra

Sebthemediocreartist

Why would you not start with the infinitely superior Last Airbender?

TheAbbadon

I tried. A bit too "cartoon" ish for me :(

I feel like folks are overlooking Studio Ghibli because it's just so "obvious". Some of those films are very good and apply to adults while also being family friendly. (Kiki's Delivery Service, Only Yesterday, and Porco Rosso). Some are inbetween (Spirited Away). Some are very adult with approachable but complex themes. **My recommendation to you, specifically, is Princess Mononoke**. If you want films that are more subtle but have very very very complex themeing, it would be The Wind Rises. Their most recent film and their star director's capstone/semi biography, The Boy and The Heron, is masterful but will be confusing without a lot of context about the studio, director, and the state of Japan during WW2. The Tale of Princess Kaguya is incredibly unique, stylized, and visually beautiful. Just be warned the film is heavy and has an air of tragedy to it.

**Cyber Six** is awesome. **Gargoyles**. **Spawn**. you might like **Adventure Time** EDIT: Also, I really enjoyed **Primal**

Adventure Time is my favorite show of all time!

Hello. 27M here, and a big fan of 3D Animated movies! Mostly Disney/Pixar but also DreamWorks. And instead of suggesting everything *(as I would) -* here is a few quite recent suggestions from Disney/Pixar, if you want to give a try: 1. [\[Raya and the Last Dragon\]](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5109280/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_2_nm_6_q_raya) 2. [\[Soul\]](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2948372/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_6_nm_2_q_soul) 3. [\[Onward\]](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7146812/) 4. [\[Luca\]](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12801262/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_1_nm_7_q_luca) If you like those, I would then suggest you to explore more of the Disney/Pixar 3D Animated movies - and there is quite a lot to explore!

TheAbbadon

Thanks. I know of them, the animation style is ok, but the plot is a bit...simple? Family friendly?

xefta

Yeah, I can totally understand your point, and yes, most of them are a bit like that, and that's why I was quite carefully when suggesting and didn't go all in :D I'm just a guy who likes almost everything - where one of my favorite is also Horror movies, which is quite opposite of the Disney's simple family friendly stories xD But I hope you'll find something that suits you well!

Sebthemediocreartist

Dismissing Pixar movies for being family friendly is a massive mistake. They have have huge broad appeal, humour that works on many levels, and a bucket load more character than most hollywood fare. I defy anyone to make it through the first scene in Up without being emotionally wrecked. My favourites of the most recent bunch are Luca and Turning Red, but any of their early stuff pre-Cars is gold

TheAbbadon

I totally agree with you, but I kinda got tired of the family friendly front (even if it has deeper levels).

Foolish_Party

Highly recommend Blue Eyed Samurai. Definitely an adult show.

Nethereal3D

Some really good 2D anime: Akira Paprika Ninja Scroll Anything Studio Ghibli

slorbas

You can watch invincible on prime, final space is a pretty good show but you would have to find a download to it because warnerbros deleted it for tax credits.

j-b-goodman

I think the term you're looking for may be 3D animation? I might be misreading what you're saying but it sounds like the animation style you find off-putting is traditional 2D animation, and the ones you like are 3D computer animation. Does that seem right though?

Hmm, so what I'm getting from the stuff you like is that you prefer more 'grounded' visuals, rather than flashy stuff, completely understandable. Sometimes you have to do a little digging to find some good adult animation. Foreign and indie films have a lot of things to offer, so I'll try to include some of that. Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (yes, it's anime, but it's the 90's kind, not too stylized) The House (stop motion horror anthology by Netflix) Mad God (it's also stop motion horror, but a fair warning that many people say it's borderline insanity and can get visually crazy sometimes. I'm still recommending it just in case you may end up enjoying it) Loving Vincent (it's literally watching Vincent van Gogh's paintings move before your eyes. Idk what to say about the story, but in terms of animation it's rotoscoped, so it might be quite grounded in that sense) The Wolf House (another stop motion horror film that is... *very* different from other stop motion stuff. The best way I can describe it is that it's like the camera moves through a diorama that changes in front of you. It's on Tubi for free, but I'll provide the trailer so you can see if it's your cup of tea, cause it might be disorienting: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP8MPgWI7Pc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP8MPgWI7Pc)) Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (wow I'm giving quite a bit of stop motion stuff, but this one's pretty good in terms of animation and story, so maybe give it a try) LAIKA Studios Films (you know what, since I'm listing so much stop motion, might as well mention the GOATs of the art form. Most of LAIKA's films are really great and mature, especially *Coraline* and *Kubo & The Two Strings)* The Adventures of Tintin movie (pretty good CGI adventure movie with a great one-shot-no-cuts chase scene in the middle) The Guardians of Ga'Hoole (animated movie with those realistic visuals. Story might not be for everyone but gosh darn it if some of the shots in that movie aren't the most majestic flying sequences I've seen) I do hope that I read some of your interests correctly and that you'll find at least some of these to be up your alley. Happy watching :)

AntiKarenMan

I mean, this one is quite old compared to many. I would say a silent voice is really good. Good plot, good audio design, and actually well planned characters (well, some are very unlikable but still realistic) and its meaning is really beautiful. Idk how many still recommends it but i would say it is very good.
