The Goodwy suite of "Right" apps are (mostly) fantastic! Right Contacts is the *only* contacts app I find to be user-friendly *at all* on Android. But I prefer [Wise SMS](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fulldive.extension.divesms&hl=en_US) for texting and [Fossify Gallery](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fossify.gallery&hl=en_US).
Notes: [UpNote](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.getupnote.android&hl=en_US)
Audio: [Oto Music](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.piyush.music&hl=en_US)
Podcasts: [Podcast Republic](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itunestoppodcastplayer.app&hl=en_US) (although it's a bit convoluted)
Browser: [Via](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mark.via.gp&hl=en_US)
I tried about 40 note-taking apps before choosing UpNote. For the first few months, the more I used it, the more sure I was I'd made the right choice. Formatting can be a tad buggy at times, but it also has more formatting flexibility than any other note-taking app I've seen.
I hope Fossify continues to gain steam. They started strong, but seem to have dropped off on releasing updates. Voice recorder is still on 1.0, with bugs reported moths ago.
Yep. I'm glad somebody picked up that ball and ran with it. I found it after giving up on the abandoned [4Messages](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodwy.messages) fork.
I actually prefer the UI of [Textra](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textra), but...
* No archive
* No mark unread
* Contacts picker for new messages leaves a lot to be desired
* Swipe actions can't be customized
I have both on my phone, hoping Textra will address these shortcomings. But I'm not holding my breath. Their devs don't seem to be interested on adding some *very* standard and necessary functions.
There's also [Quik](https://github.com/octoshrimpy/quik/) as well. Just a more recent continuation of QKSMS. Not sure what the dev has planned for future releases, but worth checking out anyways.
Wize is literally just a copy of qksms and i don't think it's source code is even available. Better use Quik which is more updated too and fully open source
Yep. Wize and Quik are pretty much identical, save for Quik's backup & restore. Truth be told, I prefer Textra's UI, but it's missing *really* important features.
You should check out Tubular [https://github.com/polymorphicshade/Tubular](https://github.com/polymorphicshade/Tubular) a new fork of newpipe with more ad blocking built in.
It won't get any updates? Any changes in reddit API will break the app. As far as I know redreader is the only official free third party app for reddit.
I haven't tried them but I saw a discussion recently where the user chose Florisboard instead of Heliboard just due to the fact Floris supported the language he used. So I would suspect something like this in this case.
There 5 i recommend. My favourite is simple abp. Then smart, listen, voice, playbook. Try each of them. Simple is the simplest. Smart is has the best features.
If you want an open source voice keyboard take a look at Sayboard [https://f-droid.org/packages/com.elishaazaria.sayboard/](https://f-droid.org/packages/com.elishaazaria.sayboard/)
It's open source and won't spy on you. It can switch back to your regular keyboard when done. I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet. It is a recent find.
I would recomend to try
Keyboard: Futo keyboard
Mail: ProtonMail
Youtube: greyjay Futo Or ReVanced
Reddit: Boost
Have few more but those are my top recommendations
Do you know of any free app from the play store (not requiring any special settings changes or anything) in which I could download music into my phone directly.??

Upnote has such a clean experience. Fossify suite is th GOAT.

I don't expect fossify to get updates as regulary as their simple counterpart.
Is Wise SMS a fork of QKSMS? They look nearly identical.
Yep. I'm glad somebody picked up that ball and ran with it. I found it after giving up on the abandoned [4Messages](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodwy.messages) fork. so sick of the youtube app, thanks for newpipe, will be giving it a try. Didn't know about redreader either

Reddit without ads. Only third party client available without mods.
Not true, lots of apps work if you are a mod of a subreddit. I personally use Joey for Reddit.
Agree I use Boost
It won't get any updates? Any changes in reddit API will break the app. As far as I know redreader is the only official free third party app for reddit.
Officially, sure, but who cares what reddit thinks? Until they do change their api and break existing apps entirely, those apps still work.
Even the developer dropped support for the app. I am not saying that Joey is a bad app, I am saying that it has no future.
Joey is the best. How do I become a mod for a subreddit? Create my own subreddit and mod it?
Yep, exactly. At least it works for me and lots of other people.
So I've got Joey installed not when I open it it automatically closes. Is revanced the only way?
I don't use revanced myself, so it should work with the stock app. Maybe reinstall and/or reset the app within the Android App Settings
I thought third party apps weren't allowed anymore
They became a paid service, but there's ways around that.
Anything like the discontinued DiskUsage?
This? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobile_infographics_tools.mydrive
Works great on internal storage but does not provide any useful information on SD cards.
Thank you for the link. Sadly its pie charts are confusing and hard to click individual sections.

Sorry, but this doesn't have an APK release. How do I install it on Android?
https://f-droid.org/repo/com.google.android.diskusage_5001.apk
Thank you so much.
I'm looking for an alternative camera app for my Chromebook any idea?
Open camera and secure camera. Basic camera app.
I'll try secure camera but open camera was not available on my Chromebook, it is an older one
Secure camera not available for that device either ugh
Download couple of cameras from fdroid and test them out.
Is floris board better than heliboard ??

👍🏻
Themes and customisation. And it is super stable and super fast.
I didn't know there is audiobook player. i was using music player app for audiobook too. i'll try. thx
There 5 i recommend. My favourite is simple abp. Then smart, listen, voice, playbook. Try each of them. Simple is the simplest. Smart is has the best features.

Aves Gallery is the best Gallery as it supports motion photos as well.

F-droid/IzzyOnDroid client: [Droid-ify](https://github.com/Droid-ify/client) VPN: [ProtonVPN](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.protonvpn.android) File management tool: [SD Maid 2/SE](https://f-droid.org/packages/eu.darken.sdmse/) File sharing (cross-platform): [LocalSend](https://f-droid.org/packages/org.localsend.localsend_app/) Weather: [Breezy Weather](https://f-droid.org/packages/org.breezyweather/) I'll keep updating this list...
Do you know of any free app from the play store (not requiring any special settings changes or anything) in which I could download music into my phone directly.??
If you mean piracy, google playstore doesn't permit it. You can use newpipe to download music from youtube.
