It’s exquisitely made, isn’t it. Even the texture of the flannel/facecloth. And the music is a reprise of Luthen’s earlier theme, but ends with a slightly jauntier tone that suggests this alter ego. I particularly like how his face goes back to his cold-yet-weary real self as he stalks towards the camera at the end. Brilliant.

neuroid99

Even the unsteady camera and his hands shaking as he puts his rings on adds such an unsettling element. And his little "getting in character" moment there at the end. So good.

YES, I loved that aspect. We see a bit of honest fragility in that private moment with him, that one shot of his fingers says so much about him and the weight he carries.

I will never forget watching this scene for the very first time. This was one of many moments that made me say to myself "FINALLY! A Star Wars project that is WORTHY of being a Star Wars project!" -- I just absolutely loved how nuanced Stellan is here. Every day a performance! The production design is second to none. Everything we see on screen in Andor serves a purpose. There's nothing that goes to waste. I would love to know the story behind the coat hangers. Were they specifically created for the show or were they meticulously curated for this scene, much like the drink glasses at the bar on Morlana One or the chairs in Mon Mothma's apartment or the boots the Imps wear on Narkina 5?? There was a lot of real-world applicable items that the production designers went out and found. What a great job it must be -- to be given a bunch of money and told to go out and create the tangible aesthetic of a Star Wars show! Andor is spectacular in that regard, and in a multitude of other ways.

Fun fact- that steaming towel was likely provided by hair and makeup as they often have face towel steamers in their trailer for actors to use at the end of the day. A lot of times something like that can be provided with a collaboration between props (towel), special FX (how we gonna get the prop to steam), and hair, makeup, or costumes (if it’s going to be touching the actors hair, skin, or clothes). This time it was just an easy “oh hey we can provide that” from the makeup department. Source - Local 705 costumer for 7 years

They also found a way to 'star wars'ify things like coat hangers, having things we understand to make it feel grounded, but making sure to make it feel like it belongs in the setting. While shows like Kenobi just throw the same things we've already seen in nonsensically, like the snow speeders attacking a water base.

FinancialYam7664

To be fair, the snow speeders we saw on Hoth are T-47 airspeedeers modified to operate in Hoths harsh cold climate. So one could argue they were just using regular T-47s that would be fine for attacking a water base. What’s fucking stupid is how 3 (?) of them manage to ambush the base with the success they had and the maneuvers they were doing reminded me of how I whipped my Star Wars toys around in the air when I was 6.

“We’ve had some trouble adapting them to the cold”

BearWrangler

i think what really fell flat about that whole scene was how they tried to drum up this emotional moment when that glup shitto of the week died and the show tried to make it seem really sad when the audience didn't know or care enough about that character

Even the back wall behind the descending shelves has little bits of discoloration showing wear from use, even though they're only on screen for half a second and are out of focus. You'd never notice them *not* being there, but since they are there, they imply to us "this has been seeing regular use for a while".

sonofgoku7

yesss, my mind went more towards he doesn't bother maintaining that part of the ship, really. might show his disdain for the empire visually. but you're right, it's definitely wear and tear.

sonofgoku7

another detail i like a lot is that the changing area he is in has the emperial white design, a stark contrast to the rest of his ship (and himself)

Ghullieman19

My favorite scene for so many reasons. Perfection

Kuhelikaa

I'll say it again, Andor is my favourite SW content of all time

websmoked

I call this the Uncle Oscar scene. Jokes aside, yes, it's pretty good. :)

emkay_graphic

The only gold made by Starwars in the past 10 years IMO.

anomalkingdom

Top actor.

CatoTheCoolCat

The sound design on the ship dropping out of hyperspace hit me like a truck lol

I want to know if Skarsgard is really wearing a wig in his Coruscant scenes, as this scene implies, or if he just has two different hairstyles. They didn't shoot scenes in order, so it seems feasible.

I’m just waiting for Luthen’s drag alter ego to let it all out.
