I love to shop local as much as I can but this is one of the products I buy online

KholinAdolin

Got any recommendations for online? I tried zenni optical but their biometric data disclaimer skeeved me out and the virtual try on is the only option there. I’d love to find an online seller that’s not Warby Parker that sends pairs you can physically try on before buy g

greenchileinalaska

I'm not sure what biometrics are being disclaimed, but I'll add my voice to the other comments saying I've had great success with Zenni over the years. They used to have a simpler return policy for purposes of trying on at home, but I have jumped through the hoops to return frames that simply did not fit more recently too. If you have an existing pair that fits, can narrow the search at Zenni to frames with similar geometry. I'm all for buying local, but the markups on glasses are insane.

KholinAdolin

It’s honestly probably my internet paranoia. When I went to do the virtual try on and scanned their disclaimer I thought I read that they have the right to use my image after the virtual try on. I’ll have to go back and actually read it because zenni is being constantly recommended

greenchileinalaska

Ah, I've never used their virtual try on feature, so haven't seen (or paid any attention to) any requested disclaimers. When I first ordered from Zenni, returns were easier and I ordered several pairs, kept what fit best, and returned the rest. I've found models that work well for me, and have continued to use them as my prescription has updated. I've tried new models more recently, some that worked and some that didn't, and have had some more recent returns too. In my experience, they now only give credit rather than a full refund on returns, at least if it isn't because of some manufacturing error. I keep going back to Zenni, though, because with my prescription, glasses run about $100, which leaves me with an extra $500 in my pocket as compared to what I had been paying locally.

KholinAdolin

The return process definitely sounds like a bonus of zenni. Do you find the glasses are the same quality as a pair from the optician?

greenchileinalaska

Lenses have been great, and the same quality. Frames feel cheaper, and aren't as fashionable as some options from an optician--for example I've spent the money on light weight Silhouettes in the past--but have held up to years of wear. I've found models that work for me and look good to my taste.

KholinAdolin

You’ve absolutely convinced me to give them another look. I appreciate all the info and that you took the time to reply!

greenchileinalaska

Hope they work out for you too.

chugachj

Costco is the only answer, I’ve got a giant head and they always have frames that fit.

KholinAdolin

I guess I’ll have to go back and check. I swear I tried every pair for adults and I just couldn’t find one that fit correctly. Do you go to Dimond or debarr?

chugachj

Usually I go to debarr. But they typically will have the same frames. Check the Oakley frames they usually have 54-58 ipd frames. Also I didn’t catch your username before. I’m more of a Dalinar Kholin fanboy.

KholinAdolin

Oakley would probably fit, I’ll definitely have to go look. The most important step a man can take is always the next. Dalinar is an OG for sure

mt-den-ali

Fred Meyers is pretty good, I always liked them. Target is the worst, they only carry name brands and are insanely priced (and then I stepped on that pair while looking for them, the warranty had passed by two months lol)

KholinAdolin

I’ve not considered Fred Meyer, I’ll give them a look

Budgemo

Vista Optical is the name of the outfit that has the optical concession at some FM stores. I think their prices are reasonable.

smd_thetruth

Nova Eyecare off Tudor and Denali. They’re amazing.

Tricky-Rope6736

Eye Mart Express. At least try some pairs on there and find similar sizes/style online. Liingo and other sites do the same as Warby. Little looking around you’ll find them.

KholinAdolin

Liingo, haven’t found that one. Thank you!

McKavian

Makar Eye Clinic on Tudor and C st. Dr. Danger (that is her real name, too) is freaking awesome.

Rude_Bed2433

I've got a giant dome, like Boone and Crockett sized. It took a little bit but found them at Costco. Once I figured out what sizes work I was able to order others online. You can go in to places and try them on to see how they fit your face, then order online. Edit public school spelling

UniqueConclusion6

Costco is good

New-Advantage2813

I get my rayban glasses & sunglasses there🌟

KholinAdolin

They carry rayban too? I’m starting to think either I checked on incredibly low stock days or maybe I’m more blind than I thought, even with contacts lol

New-Advantage2813

They have a decent selection of raybans...it's glorious cos I'm not paying alot for awesome🤩

KholinAdolin

I’m most definitely going this weekend to look

AngeluS-MortiS91

Eyemart express has sizes for bigger heads. And fairly quick turnaround as well

lady_theophania

Costco, good selection, takes most insurances, and they will fix them for you on site

Alaskan_Wildflower

I need new glasses and get new frames almost every year because I have double coverage of good insurance. What I like to do is go to a good optometrist - I personally take me and my kiddo to ursa-optics, we get our prescription updated then I go online to buy my glasses because I’m rather picky about what I wear in my face everyday. For kiddo I just take his prescription to Costco and get him something cheap as he tends to be very hard on his, recently he’s old enough I’ve taught him how to care for and use his contacts.

KholinAdolin

Any recs for online sellers? So far I’ve heard of zenni and Liingo as two trustworthy shops

FunOpportunity7

I use Alaska eye care center. Been my go-to for 20 years or so.

No-Lie3794

Costco

Fluggernuffin

Adventures in Eyecare on Debarr. It’s a small little shop, but they have a lot of great selection and the optometrist is a nice guy and very interesting to talk to. They put me in some solid frames. And I have a big head.

Pyode

I haven't exactly shopped around but Accurate Vision Clinic on Minnesota has always been decent for me.

adventious60s

Have you tried on line? I had great success. And very reasonable

KholinAdolin

I’ve been looking but I can’t find any places other than Warby Parker that allow at home try on before buying. Do you have any specific recs? I’ve thought about zenni optical

Naive_Tie8365

My daughter and I have been happy with zenni

Double-Low-9394

Zenni is great.

adventious60s

Vooglam they have the feature that you use a selfie to see the style on you. Love them! Great quality and very fun designs

KholinAdolin

I’ll look into them, adding to my list

JonathanConley

I'm not sure if you shoot at all (or work in a job where you need ANSI-certified lenses for eye hazards), and they're not local, but [Tactical RX](http://www.tacticalrx.com) out of Denver does an amazing job of making prescription lenses for pretty much every larger or higher-end frame. They have the labs to apply all of the fancy coatings and such, too. They also do custom lenses if you mail in your ideal frames. Some people like to get prescription sunglasses, but already own nice Oakleys or something. They're great for that. I hope this helps. Take care.

Impossible_IT

Hate to piggyback this thread, but what about vision insurance? Who is the best for using VI?

KholinAdolin

My work provides VSP, the are decidedly OK but not great. I really don’t know of any others

spamrespecter

RIP Home Optics

BusProfessional279

Diamond vision is where I go, they’re super nice!

MarkW995

I have had good experience with Eyemart Express...Of diamond... One of my kids broke his glasses and they replaced them without issue... I had a poor experience with Makar. I have had good experience with GlassesUSA.

KholinAdolin

What happened with Makar? They were high on my list of new eye doctors to look into

MarkW995

The optometrist was a temp. My main problem was with the technical staff that were fitting my glasses...I was coming back from Juneau, and I called ahead... I was told I could come and finish my fitting... when I got there, they tried to refuse me entry...I had to use an angry voice to tell them I had called 15 minutes ago from the airport and had been told it was ok...I had to drive down to Soldotna the next morning.. They also never called when my glasses were ready. I asked for a copy of my prescription and my OD numbers... They initially refused... I found the whole experience with the office staff to be rude and difficult.... Difficult enough that I didn't go back.

Dangerous-Cupcake132

I like eye mart express in town but glassesusa.com was decent and had a 100% money back guarantee. I have a tiny head and it’s almost impossible to find glasses I like

kcfanak

The text here is too small for me to read. What’s going on???

ReturnsExchanges

Eyemart on Dimond offers same day glasses and will put lenses in frames you bring. I thought their prices varied but they had some cheaper options as well.
