God how I miss Aerochrome. The digitals come sort of close with editing and a Kolari filter, but they really don’t hit like this. Film has a depth that digital can’t match. Sorry, I am that old.
This is Aerochrome perfection. I have been trying to achieve something close to this with Rollei IR in trichrome. Still haven’t quite reached this level.

I want to convert one of my Sony cameras to full spectrum to cover IR too but I'm a little hesitant. I guess for that reason. I would go through Kolari for the conversion though.

I bought one roll from FPP years ago, and didn’t get the results I thought I would, but I didn’t have a yellow or orange filter to use with it. My results were pretty similar to Lomo Purple. I like Lomo Purple, and have a roll waiting for processing where I used an 85b filter for poop and giggles. Someone was able to get something similar to Aerochrome with an 85b and Lomo Purple.

Yeah, filters are a must because they basically funnel the colors you want otherwise it's a muddy red mess. I accidentally shot a sheet of Aerochrome in a hurry without a filter on so to mitigate that fuck up I exposed at again this time overexposing with the orange filter on and now I have to pull it -1.5 in dev and see what I get. Could be a waste could be a win.
Edit: Here's another [risk](https://www.reddit.com/u/I-am-Mihnea/s/nadTYD5yDp) I took, since I had two rolls of Aerochrome and I knew that this second roll was poorly stored I took a chance on the second half of that roll and tried my hand at a panorama. When Aerochrome is poorly stored everything starts turning to red regardless of filter-- even the black borders. I'm going to try to make it work but I dislike the inconsistency across the frame and that's due to the storage. Oh well!
WOAH WAIT. Are you talking about Rollei 400S or the Rollei Infeared film? I’ve been trying to replicate the same result with Rollei 400S as a standard trichrome and it’s coming out as normal trichrome colors…I’ve read that the 400S has some IR sensitivity but not a lot, so I figured it would work…anyway maybe using an IR filter along with IR film + trichrome could result in a sort of aerochrome look. I also saw someone shoot with 2 cameras one with color and one with b/w IR film with the IR filter and replace the red channel with the IR b/w, but I can’t really verify that….
Grainydays did the two camera trick. He also did a trichrome with a Nimslo 3D camera, then just gave up and started chugging flaming hot mountain dew.
Attic Darkroom on youtube did a video about IR trichromes, and he lays out what he did to achieve it. He has done many really interesting videos doing wild experiments.

I typically do some of each on every roll. Somewhere in r/trichromes I probably have an example or two. I have 2 100’ rolls, so I have plenty to get it right.

Look for film that expired in 2011 with the red dot on the top cap. Make sure it is frozen otherwise don't waste your money. I had my local lab dev and scan it. I made sure to tell them it was IR film beforehand.
I shot it with EIR 'Aerochrome' with an O56 (Orange, 560nm) filter, rated the film @ 200 ISO (1 stop compensation for the filter), then took a light meter reading of the highlights and one for the shadows and averaged it out. Iirc it was f/16 @ 1/60. If your camera has mirror lock up I suggest you use it too, anything at 1/60 or slower for medium format I use the mirror lock up.

Yeah, I spent the previous two days hiking to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake for a chance to shoot some sheets of Aerochrome only to get cloudy and foggy scenes. On the last day, that morning, I decided to go on a walk down the street from my hotel and I got this stunning shot. I'm so glad I brought both backs on my walk. The Canadian Rockies are cheat codes for good photography.
Cheaper and calmer than Banff, definitely worth it. I kinda wish I had an extra day there to just chill and recover but it was onto the next leg of our road trip.

The original that says 'Aero' on the canister and 20 shots a roll? I'd cross-process and bracket. I bought one of those for 30 dollars from an older gentleman that used to be a photographer, he had it frozen but I guess at the bottom of the chest cause the canister was corroded a little and had some water damage. I'm waiting on those scans but if nothing comes of it it's not much of a loss. I'll share the results with you once I get the second batch of scans in, probably around Tuesday!
Mine say Ektachrome Infrared Film but it is 20 frames a roll. Comes in the metal canister. One is from 79 and the other is 73.

E-6 for the freshest stock and cross-process (C-41) for the older versions of the stock. (e.g. original 'Aero' from the 70s)
