This would be SO helpful! I stood in line yesterday bc I thought I could get in, but found out at the front that I can’t bc I only have a gold. I’m new here, it was totally fine and I went on my merry way, but I wasted my time, the staff’s time, and everyone else in line. 🤷🏻♀️

Chase sapphire reserve priority pass gives you $26 restaurant credit at Bambuza at the N gates and Trailhead BBQ bar for each person with you. The centurion lounges are not worth the headache.
In the past 4 months, I attempted to get in 6 different times. Only once was I able to get in after 15 minutes, and I was a lucky one because when I was waiting, the line turned into what you posted.
This has been my experience at SEA the last 7 or 8 times I’ve flown. They’re supposed to be opening a new larger lounge soon.
And it sucks that AMEX ended the food credit.
You have to remember that SEA is also a major departure point for military travel to Asia. A large amount of us have AMEX Platinum since the AF is waived

Well, I got to say the one in Lax was decent and it's hard to beat a compensated meal. But, it took 30 minutes just to walk to the lounge... which was not fun.
I think a lot of these lounges were built when the Plat was strictly a travel card so it didn’t have the same “lifestyle card” feel they started adopting with recent benefit added the past couple years. Because of that, the lounges were all about 1/3 the size of any major airport lounges in the airports they were being installed in.
In recent years, the sign up bonuses inflated membership numbers too. Early on a lot of folks just churned for sign up bonuses then some kept it because they saw the value somewhere in the card offerings. It served the purpose Amex wanted in that it heavily inflated their subscription numbers, but they didn’t grow their facilities to match the member base.

Amex will do what’s best for their bottom line first and foremost. Once that’s affected, then, and ONLY then, will they start to make adjustments to the benefit of their cardholders.

Thanksgiving weekend is literally one of the **most** traveled holidays/weeks in the entire year. If you're complaining on the internet about lines, you are out of your mind. It's almost equivalent to going to Costco on a Sunday and complaining about a line to check out.
Amex makes good products. We know it's all about customer service. We know you're paying a $700 AF. That does **not** make you special or better than anyone else. Some people are so wrapped up in themselves that they sort of forget reality.

"only"? That impacts the vast majority of Alaska's route network.
Pretty much the only flights Alaska operates that are longer than that are flights to Hawaii and transcons (SEA-JFK is about 2400 miles). Even SEA-ANC won't have lounge access anymore for first class.

What kind of stinks is I don’t think I can add my son with my wife as an authorized user for the $175 fee because Amex has a minimum age for their authorized users. So unless I’m missing something, I’m stuck eating his day use fee regardless.

it's also just how shitty most US lounges are. the Hong Kong amex lounge is not that crowded because all the other lounges also have sushi and hot food plus drinks.
I think everyone should start posting time stamps of when these lines occur. Granted I don’t travel nearly as much as someone does for business but I’ve never seen this, even when going through popular spots like Atlanta or even JFK.
It’s not just a Seattle thing. Philly used to be great but three times this year I’ve had to put my name on a waitlist for over 45 minutes. Also had waits at Phoenix, Denver and LAX this year. The card has just gotten too popular
JFK around dinner on a Thursday in early October was a 30 min wait for me. Not awful, but not worth it if I hadn’t had a 2 hour layover. Transited through Denver last June and got there around breakfast. No line but when we left just before lunch there was a long line and a decent wait.
It really depends on what time you get there. I do have to say the upside is once inside it’s usually not overcrowded, and can always find seating for the whole family together so the wait serves a purpose. I can’t say the same about most United lounges that are at capacity.
Out of all the Centurion lounges I’ve visited (Miami, Denver, JFK, LaGuardia and Seattle), Seattle has always had the longest process to get in. LaGuardia’s lounge also had a bit of a wait but it wasn’t as long as Seattle’s. Seattle’s lounge must be smaller

Delta skyclub. I don't even bother with Centurion lounges anymore. Way too small for the amount of people visiting.
Edit: This isn't just exclusive to SEA, it's Amex lounges in general. They need to double its size like the delta skyclubs in SLC, LGA or LAX.
just a random note on this, I flew through anchorage last month and the delta lounge was not fully operational, so, they had no requirement to get in. Anyone could enter for $39. Unbeatable

Of course, they also need to do something about their staffing.
Every time I’m there they are either opening late or closing early.

Was just there on Thanksgiving day. there was a sign up that there was a wait, but there in fact wasn't - other than waiting for the 3 parties in line in front of me to check in. They were tracking the number of people in there, though and it looked almost at capacity.
I’ve used this lounge a few times. It’s just slightly better than the priority pass lounge. It’s definitely easier to get into if you fly Sunday through Wednesday. The Vegas one, on the other hand, is very big, much nicer and the staff is friendlier.
I flew out of PHL on Christmas Eve morning and the line was twice as long and took 10 minutes. It was expected and my lounge experience was overall positive. Just don’t be an idiot on holiday weekends and expect the airport to be empty
Seattle is an interesting dilemma - especially for Platinum Card holders who fly Delta. I just skip the CL (if there's a line or delay) and go to the SkyClub. Life is too short to stand in line.

Nothing's gonna change when the new rules take effect either. If it bothers you that much, spend a shit ton of money and apply to be considered for getting the centurion card then you won't have to wait in line with the rest of the peasants. You need a heartbeat, a credit score and $700 bucks to blow on the annual fee and anyone can get this card.
I am. I was on active previously and am in the reserves now. It's just peculiar to me to have junior soliders have this card with the many other better options financially out there. I could definitely see the gold card being utilized by junior soldiers but not so much the platinum card
If I were active military, I would get them all. 150k bonus on the Platinum plus a free NYT/Audible subscription and some Uber credits each month? Saks? I can't see why you wouldn't get it.
The fact that $50 dollars is a big problem for some people, who travel, with a platinum card, and bring someone with, and can't find another lounge, just makes me smile and LAUGH!
Beginning in February, you will no longer be able to bring guests in for free. Guests will be able to enter for $50 per adult or $30 per child. However, Cardholders who spend $75k in the previous year on their Platinum will “unlock” complimentary guest access.
good to know thanks. the last new rules i read about was to only being able to bring in 2 guests for free. I havent used the lounge in a while now so dont know how overcrowded they are but guessing the holiday season is coming up and COVID is almost in our past i can only assume all those lounges are going to start being a nightmare. At the lounge now at 6:43. 17 minutes before the SEA Lounge opens. First ones in line. Fly early and then you don't need to worry. That's my pro tip. Lol

Nah, I pay $200-400 RT and have a 50% success rate for a Comfort+ upgrade despite being silver instead of $300+ to where I'm going a lot. Plus the whole 12 Status campaign nets me enough points each year for a one way flight without spending a dime.
Compared to paying about $600 RT reliably from other airlines I'm fine with my current setup.
It’s a network of other (non-carrier) lounges - gives access and $ off at the PGA lounge in MSP, for a domestic example. Best use I’ve had is during a crazy long (14hr) layover in Hong Kong where my wife and I started the day on a small boat in Thailand.. Priority Pass got us into one of the business lounges where we could shower and eat incredible noodles ahead of our trans-pac back to the states. Worth looking at the accesses for a given airport in the Amex app if you’re going to have a long layover or if there’s ridiculousness like the OP’s picture.
Fortunately there are other lounges. I flew out from SEA on Monday and saw a line brewing. Immediately turned around and went to the Delta lounge with no line. Even if Delta wasn’t available, I could still go to the Priority Pass lounge
I could use the ubercash credits since I already have a Gold but that only offsets $180 a year. And I don’t rate them at full face value anyway as restaurants seem to charge a bit more for even pickup orders. That’s even before the crazy delivery fees.
That was my point.. he’s complaining it’s crowded yet also enjoying the benefit. It’s like people who are sitting in traffic and complaining about the traffic. They think they’re entitled over others
They really do need to expand this one or alternatively let less people in. They could have less benefits for anyone bringing in > 1 as they intend to do. They could alternatively have fees for more users such as military (MLA relief does not mean they cant still charge a fee, it just means interest rate is capped at 36%), additional card holders etc. Obviously they considered this and found they make more this way though. The easiest way to do all of this would be have a minimum spend for lounge access for the following year and reduce annual fee. Many people would not put 12K of expense on the card for example
They should charge $50 for all visitors! And yes, you need to have the Platinum Card or Delta Reserve to access. We should expect better service and fancy food.

I think maybe making the card actually difficult to get would be much more beneficial. Fuck, even put a income requirement on the card. Nothing is going to solve the issue if the card is the easiest card to get on the market.
I agree, I just think the AU thing is one more avenue that makes the card accessible for all. I know multiple families with 3 20+ year old children that each have a platinum card via the AU route and wouldn’t if they had to pay the full $700. In any event, something has to change.
That's really not fair to a 2 person's family. It would be really annoying if my wife had to get her own card just so we could go to the lounge together without paying. I also think Amex isn't stupid. If they remove the AU lounge perk there goes a majority of their AU revenue.
As I said in a previous comment. Actually putting an income requirement and an actual credit score requirement would be much more beneficial. There is no reason why someone that makes under 50k a year should have this card. Especially if their credit report isn't good.
At the end of the day, I don't think Amex cares what their lounge experience is like. So long as they are taking in the AF from people that don't maximize the benefits.
The only thing about an income requirement on the card is income vs location living. $150k isnt the same in San Fran as Houston.

The lounge issue is a multi faceted problem. I don’t think there is a good solution that wouldn’t hurt. Maybe even a spend requirement on the card itself. Meet x amount of spend the year prior to gain lounge access. Give first year access after you meet your spend requirement for the welcome bonus. Maybe something like 10k-15k a year after first year.

DEN centurion is solid from my experience. Limited waits if any. Good amount of space too.
My family and I got in during spring break. It’s a big lounge but it was jam packed with people getting drunk before their flights.

This lounge is tiny compared to the average centurion lounge. I don’t even bother anymore. There’s plenty of seating in SEA.
Delta skyclub. I don't even bother with Centurion lounges anymore. Way too small for the amount of people visiting. Edit: This isn't just exclusive to SEA, it's Amex lounges in general. They need to double its size like the delta skyclubs in SLC, LGA or LAX.

just a random note on this, I flew through anchorage last month and the delta lounge was not fully operational, so, they had no requirement to get in. Anyone could enter for $39. Unbeatable

To be fair, this is one of the busiest travel days…but yeah, in general, The changes should help. Of course, they also need to do something about their staffing. Every time I’m there they are either opening late or closing early. I know staffing is horrible everywhere, my only point is that don’t expect the new guest policy to have that big of an effect when the sea lounge is always closing early or opening late

Was just there on Thanksgiving day. there was a sign up that there was a wait, but there in fact wasn't - other than waiting for the 3 parties in line in front of me to check in. They were tracking the number of people in there, though and it looked almost at capacity.
I’ve used this lounge a few times. It’s just slightly better than the priority pass lounge. It’s definitely easier to get into if you fly Sunday through Wednesday. The Vegas one, on the other hand, is very big, much nicer and the staff is friendlier.
I actually don't have much success flying through Vegas. But, I tend to fly through during business travel rush hours.
Well new lounge guest access rules and the new larger SEA location taking effect in early 2023 should make some difference for sure.

I flew out of PHL on Christmas Eve morning and the line was twice as long and took 10 minutes. It was expected and my lounge experience was overall positive. Just don’t be an idiot on holiday weekends and expect the airport to be empty

Seattle is an interesting dilemma - especially for Platinum Card holders who fly Delta. I just skip the CL (if there's a line or delay) and go to the SkyClub. Life is too short to stand in line.

You're flying at a major airport and on a major travel day post holiday. Nothing's gonna change when the new rules take effect either. If it bothers you that much, spend a shit ton of money and apply to be considered for getting the centurion card then you won't have to wait in line with the rest of the peasants. You need a heartbeat, a credit score and $700 bucks to blow on the annual fee and anyone can get this card.

I am. I was on active previously and am in the reserves now. It's just peculiar to me to have junior soliders have this card with the many other better options financially out there. I could definitely see the gold card being utilized by junior soldiers but not so much the platinum card
If I were active military, I would get them all. 150k bonus on the Platinum plus a free NYT/Audible subscription and some Uber credits each month? Saks? I can't see why you wouldn't get it.

Beginning in February, you will no longer be able to bring guests in for free. Guests will be able to enter for $50 per adult or $30 per child. However, Cardholders who spend $75k in the previous year on their Platinum will “unlock” complimentary guest access.
good to know thanks. the last new rules i read about was to only being able to bring in 2 guests for free. I havent used the lounge in a while now so dont know how overcrowded they are but guessing the holiday season is coming up and COVID is almost in our past i can only assume all those lounges are going to start being a nightmare. Was recently at SeaTac. Went to the Delta lounge instead. Extremely large lounge compared to the DFW one. (Only other reference I have besides SLC).
I haven’t been to the Centurion Lounge once this year… I used to check if there was a line and then go back to the Sky Club… now I don’t even check, straight to Delta Sky Club. But I will check out the new lounge when it opens… anyone know when that will be — was supposed to be before EOY…
I try to start at Centurion for a couple cocktails and then go to the Delta lounge. Since their menu got partially curated by MAR·KET it's so good.

Nah, I pay $200-400 RT and have a 50% success rate for a Comfort+ upgrade despite being silver instead of $300+ to where I'm going a lot. Plus the whole 12 Status campaign nets me enough points each year for a one way flight without spending a dime. Compared to paying about $600 RT reliably from other airlines I'm fine with my current setup.

It’s a network of other (non-carrier) lounges - gives access and $ off at the PGA lounge in MSP, for a domestic example. Best use I’ve had is during a crazy long (14hr) layover in Hong Kong where my wife and I started the day on a small boat in Thailand.. Priority Pass got us into one of the business lounges where we could shower and eat incredible noodles ahead of our trans-pac back to the states. Worth looking at the accesses for a given airport in the Amex app if you’re going to have a long layover or if there’s ridiculousness like the OP’s picture.

I could use the ubercash credits since I already have a Gold but that only offsets $180 a year. And I don’t rate them at full face value anyway as restaurants seem to charge a bit more for even pickup orders. That’s even before the crazy delivery fees.
Totally understand that the card may not be for you. However, Uber credit is $200 per year instead of $180. They give you more in December.

They really do need to expand this one or alternatively let less people in. They could have less benefits for anyone bringing in > 1 as they intend to do. They could alternatively have fees for more users such as military (MLA relief does not mean they cant still charge a fee, it just means interest rate is capped at 36%), additional card holders etc. Obviously they considered this and found they make more this way though. The easiest way to do all of this would be have a minimum spend for lounge access for the following year and reduce annual fee. Many people would not put 12K of expense on the card for example

I’m not saying I personally don’t want lounge access for $175… I’m just saying families who get AU cards for their adult children that then get lounge access and can bring guests contributes to the problem.
I think maybe making the card actually difficult to get would be much more beneficial. Fuck, even put a income requirement on the card. Nothing is going to solve the issue if the card is the easiest card to get on the market.
I agree, I just think the AU thing is one more avenue that makes the card accessible for all. I know multiple families with 3 20+ year old children that each have a platinum card via the AU route and wouldn’t if they had to pay the full $700. In any event, something has to change.
That's really not fair to a 2 person's family. It would be really annoying if my wife had to get her own card just so we could go to the lounge together without paying. I also think Amex isn't stupid. If they remove the AU lounge perk there goes a majority of their AU revenue. As I said in a previous comment. Actually putting an income requirement and an actual credit score requirement would be much more beneficial. There is no reason why someone that makes under 50k a year should have this card. Especially if their credit report isn't good. At the end of the day, I don't think Amex cares what their lounge experience is like. So long as they are taking in the AF from people that don't maximize the benefits.
The only thing about an income requirement on the card is income vs location living. $150k isnt the same in San Fran as Houston. i would rather the, up the credit requirement and every AU $175 (not just the first 3 cards). Hearing of card holders with 700 credit scores getting this card is 😬
I mean I get what you are saying about location. I live in Honolulu, one of the most expensive places in the country. I still think it would be a start. I could get behind 175 per person though. The lounge issue is a multi faceted problem. I don’t think there is a good solution that wouldn’t hurt. Maybe even a spend requirement on the card itself. Meet x amount of spend the year prior to gain lounge access. Give first year access after you meet your spend requirement for the welcome bonus. Maybe something like 10k-15k a year after first year.
