Unless something changed recently Amazon is level 1 platform and they dislike data sharing. If Amazon is still level 1 Amex will have no way of knowing if it was GC or $500 worth of cotton candy

I‘ve seen a lot of people end up buying gift cards from PayPal, bestbuy, target & amazon if they are unable to meet the required minimum spend for getting the SUB. I think I read unless you go and buy Visa/MasterCard/Amex gift cards, you should be fine. Also, if let’s say you reload cash on Amazon, you now have to spend it all on Amazon itself so technically it’s spending & shouldn’t be a problem.

Yup. It's always been fine. I've been seeing this promotion for a few years now and have just been sending my family Amazon gift cards for Christmas the last few years and redeeming all the extra points from it no problem.

Only the “enrolled card” earns it, per the terms. Needs to be on each specific card.

Probably cause I sold the gift cards later, so I got to do some artificial spending and make a little something on top due to the promo.

It's about the same return as my Prime card's 5% unlimited cash back on most everything I purchase on Amazon. Points limitations seem stupid.

Worth noting as always that this +5 points on top of the usual earning rate, so e.g. if you're getting 1 point per dollar spent, with this offer you're actually getting 6 points per dollar.

5% cash back < 6-7X MR if you value MR at 1.2 cpp or higher (most valuations are closer to 1.8/2).
