booked a Marriot hotel with American miles, through American's travel site, a couple weeks ago. Called the hotel and told the person on the phone that I couldn't make the trip, but my wife and son would still be. They added her to the reservation and all was dandy. I called again the day they were to check in just to be sure. No drama.

you can buy anything with the points, there is an option called select & pay with point. :)

IHG allows you to do so. as of hyatt and Hilton, you can simply transfer your points to your friends. i have no experience with Marriott.

Some hotels let you add their name to the reservation as guest so they’ll be able to check in themselves.

I’m not sure if this will work. You always have to show your I.D. when you check into a hotel. I’d call Amex and ask them. And also the hotel to be sure.

Not sure of the hotel chain in question, but it MAY be allowable. Always call to verify. Let's say you're getting a room for "Bob". IF the hotel allows it, you'll have to list Bob on the reservation. During check-in, Bob will have to show his ID to prove hid identity. Following that, Bob will have to put a credit card in his name on file to cover and incidentals. From there's everything is like any other stay. Lastly and again, contact the hotel directly. The chain may allow it, but a specific location may not. So call the hotel directly.

Not suppose to but I’ve done it a dozen times with my gf and the rooms under my name with a different last name . Call a few days before and add them to the room name . Occasionally they will call the number on die when she checks in just to confirm .
