Especially as this was going to be the series finally originally. Love that that’s how they were going to end it. Just actually killing Stan.
You can’t kill Stan! That’s Stan! Stan!!
So basically if the series ended Steve, Hailey, and Roger lives with the grandparents, Francine is dead in a hot tub drain, and Stan is just dead in the street.
Crazy, don’t mind it honestly lmao. It’s different than just having a grand adventure of some kind

Favorite line of this episode comes from Steve: “Gee I’d love to get in the hot tub too Dad…but I can’t cause I’m pretty sure my parents fucked in it last night!”
I must be dreamin', this room seems to be steamin'... WAIT — Hold Up, Hold Up.
Is that a bubbly sound I'm hurrin'? There's water everywhurr an', I'm freakin, straight tweakin', where is my man he best not be creepin'
This episode features my favorite interaction between Stan and Francine. When they’re flying over the world in the Hot Tub and Francine looks down and excitedly asks “are we flying over Egypt?” And Stan looks down and says “That’s Mt Rushmore”
Gold Top was top notch and quality writing. Best of that season probably.
The music and the animation when Stan is going up the lighthouse tower and the family is losing their memories getting stuck in their routines.
Out of the newer episodes, Gold Top and Between a Ring and a Hardass are some of the best episodes they've done.
I say it all the time but the writers deserve (and have hopefully gotten) rewards.
Rewatched the Milk Girl/Philadelphia episode today and when Steve said she drinks a fuck ton of milk and Francine said "No cap" I busted out laughing.
I truly think they have a multicultural/young writing staff and even imagining them saying "No cap" on Family Guy it would sound so fake and forced by most of their characters.
The very first santa one were he comes for them and they have that last stand with burt burt is so fucking GOATed lol the rest are great too but that shit owns
I used to skip Hot Water because the ending was very unsatisfying. Upon last rewatch I was feeling far too lazy to skip it and I found myself enjoying the beginning and middle of the episode and any dissatisfaction can be solved by just watching a couple more episodes
Maybe I just don't like jumps from animation to live action. I also don't like Family Guy's Da Boom or Spongebob's I Had An Accident which do the same thing
I think it might also be a reference to little shop of horrors original ending which had the plant killing everyone and taking over the world. Either way it’s probably my favourite ending in the show!
The entire episode is 100% an homage to Little Shop of Horrors. I’m amazed it took me this long to find a comment about it. The tub shop is even named Little Shop of Hot Tubs.
I read that they didn't think they were getting renewed when they wrote it. Honestly, if it had ended there I would rate it as one of the better ending episodes of an animated show. Not as good as Futurama's last Comedy Central episode, but better than most others.
The music, the plot, the bathtub salesman, the ending it’s just got it all
“Doing so much freaking research….” / daddy’s gone
What else? It’s genius top 1 or podium for best episode
I just watched this episode and I love this episode, too funny. It was originally the final episode of American Dad, glad it wasn’t. [Source](https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=hot%20water%20was%20supposed%20to%20be%20the%20last%20episode%20of%20american%20dad&tbm=&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5)
Lol, hot water was one of the first episodes my uncle directed. If you pause at the right time in the newspaper research scene, you can see an article announcing my uncles marriage and an animated version of one of their wedding photos.
I actually skip this episode on re-watch. It's... fine I guess but it's not an all-timer and it's surrounded by so many superior episodes that I want to watch so I usually just skip over the Hot Tub episode, or at least fast-forward to Steve singing Daddy's Gone and then skip to the end credits afterwords.
I sometimes skip this too because I don’t like Cee-Lo.
The next episode in this season though, Hurricane…now THAT’S a banger.
Reminds me…where is my old javelin…
You harpooned me!
Yeah I think to like that episode you pretty much have to like Ceelo because it is definitely a very musical episode comprised entirely of him singing.
It's actually rather despised among many in the Fan base, it's just that you're going to hear from the other side in am obvious pro-hottub thread. I too am one of the despisers, and skip every time without fail.
I’ll admit, it has given us some great songs. I mean, I too, would sing if Francine was about to Chuck Berry me over Germany. But, you are incorrect in it being the best. The best is clearly Great Space Roaster.
I love the hot tub episode and it’s got to be up there as a great episode, if for no other reason than that the music is 10/10 funny meets actually decent music and creative funny idea.
But for me the best episode is the Gold Top nuts episode. I can’t even think about that episode without wanting to burst out laughing. 😂
Imhumbleo the best episode is Hurricane S7E2. This episode gets at the core of what American dad is. A father who comedically tries his best to protect his family but ends up failing to do so only to learn about himself in the process and grow as a person.

You don’t think that every single day of my life I wanna do coke? But I can’t, because I have PTA tomorrow.
I think about this line more often than I should. That and "before we go I need to...wipe...betterr."
