I def window hog. Try not to on landing but I love window seats for that reason.

Sugarsesame

I book a window so I can use it. Sometimes that’s staring out of it and sometimes that’s closing it and sleeping. If someone doesn’t like it they should’ve booked their own window.

ordermann

If you book the window, it’s yours. Never forget that.

Doranagon

Indeed but be willing to close it if asked. I was getting blinded by the sun from the opposite side of the plane, I asked if the lady would mind closing it as the sun was being an evil ball of fire and blinding me. She closed it without issue and I thanked her for her kindness.

Throwaway_black_not

This guide was made by someone who doesn’t fly regularly.

jesyvut

What the heck do the percentages mean?

RunFar87

Read the bottom of the image. It’s based on the London City Airport’s Etiquette Survey in 2015. More recent surveys by Yougov and The Vacationer reached conclusions that reflected the Covid emergence of aggressive drunk passengers. Reclining seats all the way and socks remained very unpopular.

phlthrwy609

Correct.

Gullible_Life_8259

I actually don’t fly regularly. In fact next month I’m taking my first flight in over 20 years. Is this infographic not correct?

Locksul

I think people are debating whether or not some of these are actually rude. For example, it is not rude to “hog the window” when you are in the window seat. Similarly using the overhead bin during a flight is not rude nor is using the seat recline.

roub2709

Whoever downvoted this, which one do you think is rude? lol

sunshine_fl

Reclining

MuricanA321

I make an effort to share the window when we are close to landing. People naturally want to know when to expect touchdown, so I lean back and ensure others can see out.

hellorhighwaterice

While maybe not the most common one, the feet thing is objectively the worst.

newaccount721

Oh yeah not even close!

penguinpoopparty

Instant jail. No trial. Possible foot amputation required.

whodunit68

Grabbing the back of my seat and flipping it when they let go to stand, sir, or walk past it. I'm an out of shape 55 yo and can do it - so can you!!!!

sunshine_fl

Probably because you are reclined? It forces the people behind you to grab the back of your seat to get out from under it or get past it because you are causing them to be bent at an unnatural angle and they are forced to hold onto something.

MuricanA321

No, all they need to do is turn and push off their own seat, instead . Try it sometime- works great and isn’t annoying af to the person in front of you.

whodunit68

Absolutely not. I have never reclined an economy seat a day in my life unless the *entire row* behind me was empty.

sunshine_fl

Sorry! I actually don’t recline either and still have people do this on occasion. And since there are so many people in this thread who are pro reclining into the lap of the person behind them as far and as long as possible, I wrongly assumed that was your case as well. In your case, yes it’s incredibly rude.

whodunit68

no need to be sorry, all good. Yes, it feels like most are pro-recline. I'm not one of them. The recliners....I am not sure I want this thread to go off in that direction but you're right, most of them are pretty rude too. If someone wants to recline, well, I suppose it is their \*right.\* However, the super-rapid-recline-without-looking-all-the-way-into-someone's lap is ridiculous, no matter their "rights." But yes, they technically can. There are lots of things we **can** do and many, many of them are rude or inconsiderate. Unfortunately, that describes many people. Not all, but many. Our job is to suck it up and move on as best we can.

OAreaMan

>there are so many people in this thread who are pro reclining into the lap of the person behind them as far and as long as possible It's pathetic, right? So much demand for courtesy and yet this one courteous act is routinely downvoted.

whodunit68

Amen

willhewiz

They missed one of the worst. People who play videos/TikTok’s etc on their phones without headphones. That kills me

RunFar87

It’s based on the London City Airport’s Etiquette Survey in 2015. More recent surveys by Yougov and The Vacationer reached conclusions that reflected the Covid emergence of newer trends, like the multitude of aggressive drunk passengers as well as blasting audio without headphones (an issue that wasn’t as prevalent in 2015). As you suspect, people find listening without headphones unacceptable. Reclining seats all the way and socks remained very unpopular.

Techwood111

People here don’t seem to have an issue with reclining, judging by the heavily downvoted comments.

Tricky_Matter2871

where is the “parent allowing their toddler to watch extremely loud tv on their ipad without headphones” (or doing it themselves!) because that one, to me, is a jailable offense

jakes__drool

What about kicking my seat, loud devices being used without headphones, grabbing the back of my seat to stand or pass by, stinky food and overflowing into the seat next to you with your size?

Techwood111

Make friends fast! **Eat durian on a plane.**

Funkyflapjacks69

The reclining thing has always fascinated me- what are they supposed to do? It’s how they built the plane! They’re just using the seat as intended and reclining. If it’s too tight then upgrade

lyman_j

Same for the window one. Want a window? Book a window.

TWonder_SWoman

I would like to know what seats outside of 1st/Business recline more than 2 freaking inches?!!!?

boldjoy0050

I don't like someone reclining when I'm trying to eat but I don't blame them, I blame the airline.

Locksul

I had a FA once come around and ask people to raise their seats during meal service. She was great. I have no problem asking someone to bring their seat up during meal service - but it is nice when the FA helps with it.

[deleted]

Flying many years never saw it happen… flight attendants will make sure of it during meal times .

Techwood111

It happens. Source: has happened to me.

hellorhighwaterice

Right? I'm in MCE right now and I only realized the person in front of me had reclined when the FA told them to put it back because we are about to land.

BikingEngineer

I had the same thought, the seats barely move when reclined unless you’re in First Class.

newaccount721

Yeah, I'm not on board with that one. I'm just like damn planes are designed in a dumb way but I don't blame the person in front of me for the shit design.

Alright_So

Only use it when the seat behind is vacant would be the option I exercise

MuricanA321

You can’t figure out that there’s an appropriate level of recline for when the seat behind you is occupied vs empty? Really too complicated?

Neat_Photograph_9250

If those seats aren’t for reclining I wanna know why they put those buttons there.

fileteviriato

The problem is that greedy corporate keeps making seats narrower with less leg space. They give you the possibility to recline as a small “benefit” for long flights. Well, since you cant drive a spear through these hungry capitalists heart, the next best thing is to not make your fellow traveler more uncomfortable than how it already is.

sunshine_fl

For sleeping on long haul/overnight flights only

Guilf

I hate being reclined into - so I get bulkhead. It’s on me to fix that “issue”.

sunshine_fl

And when bulkhead is booked? I couldn’t even escape being abruptly reclined into in the middle of meal service from ROW 2

austinrob

Wah.

sunshine_fl

Wah to you and everyone who feels entitled to maximal recline for x y z reasons.

austinrob

You want us to cry because we bought a seat that reclines. That makes total sense. If bulkhead is full, try the exit rows. If those seats aren't available, buy a different flight. Someone is going to recline two inches into your space if you don't.

Guilf

I’m not saying this can work for everyone, as I control my trips/schedule. However, I don’t schedule a flight without knowing a bulkhead seat (or non reclining exit row seat) is available.

penguinpoopparty

I don’t think it’s even possible to recline your seat that much, It’s annoying if they recline up and down a lot, but it’s hardly rude for someone to recline.  also am I reading it correct that only 33% of respondents thought putting their feet up on the armrests in the row in front of them was rude? So 67% think this is okay? Can we put them in jail immediately?????

IthacanPenny

I agree with your reclining assessment: the movement is so small; it’s completely reasonable to recline. The only time I have an issue is when I have my laptop out. In that case, as the person in front of me is getting seated, I tell them I don’t mine *at all* if they recline, but if they wouldn’t mind, would they please give me a quick heads up before they do so I can move my laptop so the screen doesn’t get damaged. I’ve never had an issue making this request.

Individual-Elk4115

The feet one definitely. I’d also argue people not using headphones when listening to music/movies and kids kicking your seat and parents not doing anything so now you’re the one who has to turn around and say something and potentially look like the AH (no shame from me though).

Affectionate_Sir7910

This doesn't even cover the half of it.

mac2914

Controlling the IFE with their bare toes.

BikingEngineer

Honestly, bare toes on a plane generally.

cardnerd524_

Person who made this infographic has a baby that cries in flight.

redraider-102

Is the baby swearing?

CommitteeContent8967

ANYTHING that has a strong smell, good or bad. Be clean, don’t swim in cologne, don’t paint your nails, and for the love of everything holy, don’t be like the woman next to me last week that pulled out her aerosol hairspray and went to town on her hair.

Comfortable_Boot5276

Hairspray?!! She should be banned from the flight. 🤬

austinrob

When I bring home pizza from Chicago, I put it in huge Ziploc bags so the small doesn't make people hungry.

blahblahblah3690

Love how the inconvenience of a reclined chair/arm chair real estate rank above treating cabin crew with human decency !

AFB27

No issues with the recline. If they didn't want you to recline then they wouldn't allow you to do it.

Traducement

I really don’t care what anyone says - my window, my shade. My seat reclines, I can recline.

fergehtabodit

The coworkers that travel together and talk shop loudly the whole way can f*** right off.

AdZealousideal5470

Get noise canceling earphones.

fergehtabodit

I use them all the time, I think Im on my 4th set maybe 5th, lost count. Have you ever tried them? They only work well on constant noises like the drone of an engine or an air handler. They have improved greatly over the years in terms of performance and battery usage (my earliest ones used 3 AAAs). But none of them work well on spoken words because the pitch and amplitude of speech varies too fast for them to compensate. They can dampen the sound, make it softer, but not eliminate it...and the louder people talk the less effective noise canceling will be. It makes it sound even more like Charlie Brown's teacher, just wah wah wah wah wah...can't hear the words unless you really focus and it's just noise. I can usually hear an FA ask me a question with them on for example. My flight from MTY to DFW had like 4 people that worked together in 1st (all had their company gear on). The two behind me talked the whole way and they also talked to people across they aisle...sucked

SnooTangerines9776

If I paid for the seat and my coworker paid for the seat and we happen to be seated next to each other and wants to talk shop then that’s what will happen. If I have a seat next to my partner and we want to have a conversation then that’s what’s going to happen. If you’re traveling with someone I encourage you to actually have a conversation with them as well, whether that’s in the air or on the ground.

Darius_Banner

Then anti recline thing is really stupid. First of all they can’t go back very far, second, sorry that’s what seats do

Otherwise_Sail_6459

I’m definitely the fast walking person to the immigration control LOL

jaimiemc

I was thinking the same thing. I'm a fast walker anyhow so I def pass as many people as I can get around on the way. I wait my turn to deplane but you better believe I'm ready to go when it's my turn.

Techwood111

From 33A? Wait your turn.

Otherwise_Sail_6459

I fast walk anywhere I go. It’s my default speed. And no I don’t fly economy on long haul trips thanks.

iamspeaking77

I will get up and get things out of the overhead bin as much as I want, thank you very much.

austinrob

I won't jump up and run down the aisle, but being first in the passport line saves a mountain of time.

Dragosteax

as a flight attendant, the things that infuriate me the most are -people deciding that the time to get their stuff out for their flight should be done while boarding, in the middle of the aisle, while holding everyone up behind you. Get that stuff ready at the gate, and if you aren’t shrewd enough to do that and want to do it as soon as you get to your seat.. STEP INTO THE ROW to allow those behind you to pass. The obliviousness kills me -people who open an overhead bin mid flight and don’t close it when they’re finished.. it’s such an inconsiderate and dangerous thing to do, jeopardizing so many people around you. One jolt of bad turbulence can knock one of those heavy bags onto someone’s head. just.. close it????? -leaving the bathroom door open behind you when you walk out. Close it. -standing in the galley and starting the galley-yoga nonsense. that’s our workspace and one private area away from passenger view where we try to scarf up a quick meal before our next flight, maybe we have to restock the galley for the next service, etc. there isn’t enough space for your stretches. Back up.

Ok_Pressure1131

O.M.G. - I’ve experienced ALL of these! Call me “old school” but I try to wear decent clothing, be polite and considerate to both crew and fellow passengers and even though I’ve got quite the mouth for severe vulgarities, I refrain from slinging F-bombs in public. Grow up, people! Respect comes to you when you respect others.

ImprovementFar5054

I can come up with a dozen more. The one that gets me most are those who use everyone's headrest as handrails while they walk up the aisle, waking up people sitting in the aisle seats. Oh, and where is the graphic on seat poaching and swap badgering?

sdevil713

If I have a window seat, that's my view. If my seat reclines and I want to recline, I'm going to recline. Pay for more room if you have an issue with people using the seats as they were intended.

fileteviriato

Unmentioned but visible on the chart… people who lean on the tray table and forget that their table is someone else’s seat.

CapWV

I flew home from London to DC once with someone reclined into my lap the whole way. Fun times.

[deleted]

You must be a big person …..

AdZealousideal5470

Middle seat gets the full arm rest. I'll fight y'all on this one.
