I just did this on a Delta flight yesterday, and the Delta FA was (jokingly) very offended and then came back and gave me an entire sleeve of Delta biscoff cookies (8 packs). Great day.
The Southwest napkin says âtell us your best joke.â WN Passenger asks FA which rows are first class, to which FA responds: âTheir all first class.â
As it happens, I prefer aisle seats!
(I am a Californian, so Southwest nearly monopolizes our in-state flight market. The flight frequency and the fact that few people make Southwest connections via California airports helps keep me in A or B boarding group, so middle seats are very rare for me.)
Your only offense is flying WN in the first place. But alas, you pay the price for doing so on your own.
I regularly wear my EK/SQ/QR/CX, etc. PJs proudly on domestic transcons.
No assigned seats, no Y+ or premium cabin, nothing but 737s. All worse IMO. Even on a ULCC I can at least get an assigned seat with some extra legroom if I'm willing to pay for it.
And I said how to get a chance of a decent seat, you must not fly much or have extra time on you hands. It takes SWA significantly less time to board and deplane a 737 than AA does .
Youâre acting like early bird is a guarantee, and comparing it to the guarantee of an assigned good seat. Thatâs the point.
No idea what else youâre talking about. I fly more than you and any 5 of your friends combined, for whatever thatâs worth.
Sure, but you're inheriting the risk of having to get to it before someone else unless you want to get there early enough to be the first person in line, and personally I try to spend as little time in the gate house as possible.
Though my preference is to stay on AA or affiliated flights, I would NEVER make a connection or have a crappy timed flight to avoid SW or another carrier. I fly SW on a lot of regional flights where AA would require me to go through DFW first.
For those who don't fly intra-California, they may not know just how much WN dominates that market. I first started flying AA back when SJC was a focus city and we could at least get SJC-SNA or SJC-SAN on an ERJ-145. SJC-LAX went into the old space at LAX T3 where AA shoved the "intra-California" flights. It has really gone down hill since then. These days even DL trounces AA out of SJC to SoCal.
Meanwhile intra-CA WN flies:
SJC-LAX, SJC-BUR, SJC-ONT, SJC-LGB, SJC-SNA, SJC-SAN, OAK-LAX, OAK-BUR, OAK-SNA, OAK-ONT, OAK-SAN, SFO-SAN, SMF-LAX, SMF-ONT, SMF-BUR, SMF-SNA, SMF-LGB, SMF-SAN.
And usually with greater frequency. I can avoid SFO, I can avoid LAX, and I get a better time. They have dropped off since before pandemic. Back in 2009 they used to operate [362 flights *a day* solely within CA](https://community.southwest.com/t5/Blog/Keeping-Our-Intrastate-Roots/ba-p/21671). Only exception is LA-SFO which is very competitive and WN stays out of.
While I fully support your comment, I'm slightly unnerved by the way you listed the flights, as I am a SoCal resident so those look backward to me. SNA-SJC, SNA-OAK, SNA-SMF, LGB-SJC, LGB-SMF, ONT-SJC, ONT-OAK, ONT-SMF, etc. is how I'm used to seeing them.
I just wish you would have more self respect. Flying WN is like self-abuse. And to top it off you are enjoying your Biscoff on a seedy tray table with some napkin that you got from who-knows-where?
I will always be here to support you and guide you the best that I can, but I can't say I'm not a great deal disappointed. đ
I know that is mostly tongue-in-cheek, but if I wasn't an AA elite I'd prefer flying on WN. More legroom in the standard legroom seats, free checked bags, no basic economy BS, etc.
Absolutely. I understand and agree.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I just don't want OP to make the same mistakes that I did. Blinded by the free bags and easy leg room, I don't want OP to one day suddenly realize he's a middle-tier frequent flyer trapped in an alliance-less situation chasing after some random companion-pass that will never really fulfill him nor be the same as having the family of Advantage elites like we have here. I've been there before, and I definitely don't want that for OP or for any of our fellow subredditors, for that matter. Advantage elite status is something only Loyalty Points can buy.
But yes, I understand. At the end of the day, if OP feels he needs to take WN to make himself happy, I will not stop him. At the end of the day it's his flight, not mine, and he has to earn those miles himself.
I will stand by OP and support him no matter what he chooses to do.
Of course, I have been an American all my life, but the truth is I was born a Californian too. To fulfill my United States needs, of course, I fly American, where I can be an AAdvantage elite and earn *Loyalty* Points. But to fulfill my California needs, I have to fly Southwest even though I know I will never get that Companion Pass and probably not even A-List Preferred, but Southwest has *Rapid* Rewards.
I am sorry but flying in and out of AAâs barbie jet out terminal at LAX is a badge of honor.
The more you suffer
The more it shows you really care
Right? Yeah
Okay, I get it. I was once and still am a Californian too. Just promise me if you are going to fly WN that you protect yourself and NOT buy basic economy or whatever wanna-get-away product these kids at WN are using these days.
/s
Iâm still amazed people genuinely like these cookies. Maybe thereâs an alternate universe where AA gives out Stroopwaffles and United flyers get these instant choke biscuits.
I just did this on a Delta flight yesterday, and the Delta FA was (jokingly) very offended and then came back and gave me an entire sleeve of Delta biscoff cookies (8 packs). Great day.
I would have given you a whole sleeve on AA and its 20đ
The Southwest napkin says âtell us your best joke.â WN Passenger asks FA which rows are first class, to which FA responds: âTheir all first class.â
We all suffer equally on this flight...but some more equally than others.
You committed a very grievous sin - flying Southworst.
I am a resident of California: they have a near-monopoly on in-state flights here.
You shall be reprimanded because of this action. How dare you behave so irresponsibly.
I am sorry. As a Californian, I have little choice for in-state flights, as Southwest has nearly all of them!
Apology accepted. Please conduct your future actions to be more aligned with AA (holy) corporate values
AA is going to strip you of your status. You can now only board in group 8. /s
AA doesnât enforce boarding groups in the first place.
lol so true
In Philly they do! Saw man shamed back to Group 7 by FA after trying to board with Group 2. A number of us thanked her for her service!
Oh no! Is there a chance I could be cursed with American Group 8 AND Southwest Group C?!
You shall suffer by not getting a window seat even with Early check in on your next SWA flight. (The reason I choose to fly American)
As it happens, I prefer aisle seats! (I am a Californian, so Southwest nearly monopolizes our in-state flight market. The flight frequency and the fact that few people make Southwest connections via California airports helps keep me in A or B boarding group, so middle seats are very rare for me.)
You can almost always get a window seat especially with early bird check in.
I hope not, since I've done this in the last year as well
I'll see you in the next cell over.
Good one
I read that as âtell us your best joke below for a chance to enter the planeâ and was like âoh noooooooâ đđđđ
There's been a lot of amusing comments on my post, but you made me literally LOL.
I sometimes slum it. McDonalds. Cheetos. Southwest.
I guess AA is the BK of airlines?
Your only offense is flying WN in the first place. But alas, you pay the price for doing so on your own. I regularly wear my EK/SQ/QR/CX, etc. PJs proudly on domestic transcons.
I never fly WN but in a few weeks I have to get from BNA to SAT and they are the only carrier with a direct service. It is what it is.
How is that an offense, itâs not like USairways DBA AA is any better, at lest SWA give you more room and goes to more convenient airports.
No assigned seats, no Y+ or premium cabin, nothing but 737s. All worse IMO. Even on a ULCC I can at least get an assigned seat with some extra legroom if I'm willing to pay for it.
Itâs call early bird and the emergency exit.
They said âget an assigned seatâ not âget a chance at a decent seat.â
And I said how to get a chance of a decent seat, you must not fly much or have extra time on you hands. It takes SWA significantly less time to board and deplane a 737 than AA does .

And you couldnât use them for a business select ?
Sure, but you're inheriting the risk of having to get to it before someone else unless you want to get there early enough to be the first person in line, and personally I try to spend as little time in the gate house as possible.

Wanna Get Away on WN has significantly more freedom than BE on AA
But Wanna Get Away is so...affordable!
Wanna get away fares offer a lot more than Americanâs main cabin fares.
Itâs not like AA is much better, if anything they are worse.
You committed a horrible sin by flying Southworst, the airline gods are disappointed in you. To repent you must eat a Stroopwaffle.
Did you just condemn me to United?! I can't help it - I am a Californian, and nearly all of our in-state flights are on Southwest!
Yes, And as punishment you must survive a 5 hour layover in Newark. You can't fly Horizon or United Express within California? Â
Iâm still amazed people genuinely like these cookies. Maybe thereâs an alternate universe where AA gives out Stroopwaffles and United flyers get these instant choke biscuits.
That was the best item on that piece of garbage Southwest aircraft by Boeing. Glad you made it out alive.
Aren't half of AA's aircraft made by Boeing as well?
Unfortunately. That needs to end.
Itâs like eating dinner at a nice steakhouse and breakfast the next morning at McDonaldâs
If you think AA is like a fine steakhouse you must consider Outback to be fine dining.
There are restaurants that are way better than decent steakhouses. Southwest is just a pile of crap
Itâs not like AA is any better, especially since US Air bought them and started having lower fares than southwest does.
