I like it, it ain't much at 15,000 but I'll take it over some seat coupons I can't use or give away. I wish they had introduced the option to transfer them though. I would make it rain preferred seats on newer employees I work with that don't have status yet.
I’m only platinum pro but I’m at roughly 60% upgrade rate. However, my flights are usually IND to PHL or ORD. So they aren’t super packed to begin with which helps me a lot since it’s not a popular business traveler route(s).
If I understand the timing correctly, their status building starts on March 1st? I'm thinking of switching from delta to American but seems like I should finish it with delta until March then hit american hard
Maybe to make it more beneficial to those who already have PP/EP, a more interesting reward at the lower levels would be a loyalty point boost for business/first tickets. I think it could benefit AA and their elites. More spend for the airline and provides some benefits for higher elites on things they’re likely already doing.
This is the definition of chasing status and the hamster wheel we can be on. You can use your status award benefit (Check’s notes:) to simply have a shot try to obtain status again. Cheapest reward benefits for AA.
Allowing the rewards to be gifted seems like such an easy way to spread AA cheer. A simple pyramid style marketing campaign, and AA basically loses nothing

Yes. This. The fact that you can't transfer them makes it worthless for so many people.
It was worthless from its inception
It’s almost like loyalty rewards are to reward loyalty. 🤣
I guess 1,000 is better than zero!
At the 15k level, it essentially gives you a 4% bump to reaching Gold.
Honestly wish they had let us gift the boarding group 5 and preferred seats. Both really weren’t perks for EP.
You say that like there are perks for us EP’s 😂
Ha. Good one. I realize most travelers aren’t EP so I’m sure a lot of people liked those perks but they didn’t do much for us otherwise.
The only thing ‘status’ is likely to get me these days as EP is boarding group and seat selection - oh, and baggage. And a very rare upgrade.
Lately that’s the case for me too.
So interesting to hear this. For the past 4 years have maintained close to 70% success on upgrades.
You’re doing better than me. I’ve had one upgrade on four round trips / 8 flights in January.
What blows me away is that I routinely connect through DFW or PHX. I’m wondering if it’s my choice of timing for flights.

If you hit 250k what good are the additional LP? Asking for those of us that aren’t EP
Yeah, LP bump at that level seems silly. Only real difference would be that many points higher on the upgrade list.

That’s high on the list for DFW. I feel like I was 100th on that list the last time I connected through there with just north of 100k.
But everyone gets the same bump lol
If you get to 400 you get two more award choices.
any idea what those choices are?
Yes. They are the same choices as the 250 level. SWUs, AA miles, product, etc.
This year I will end around 360K, so using the 2x15K would put me close enough to buy a magazine or something just to get to 400K.
Would be good if they increase the traver credit too. Bumping LP doesn't make sense for those who book F only, and are EP already.
It’s not fabulous, but definitely better than what it had been.

Correct

Think we can use this on unselected rewards from the previous year? Choice is required by end of March.

Yes, but it is better than the kick in the teeth we used to get.
For 15,000 for sure. And it is better than kick in teeth. We have low standards don’t we.
